alana was norah jones 5 years before the real thing came along...basically mainstream jazz pop....alana kinda indirectly started the whole biracial angel pop star thing....norah and alicia keys would become bigger stars...the only really good songs on here are " murder " which kinda came out of left field at me and " 32 flavors," which got to number 37 on the billboard hot 100 pop chart...it was written by ani difranco. i heard her version of it and it's more folk. alana's is cool too...most ani fans who've heard alana's version hate it. if ani's bitchin about it, she's complaining all the way to the bank....

I bought this without ever hearing Alana before and I am very happy I did. If you are looking for new artist's you won't be dissappointed.

alana davis' music is so full of life, entertaining (as what they're supposed to be) but you'd definitely never tire from listening to it.

The songs on Davis' album are as diverse as her referenced "32 Flavors." A personal work, the album allows listeners to walk alongside Davis as she makes her emotional journeys and transformations. The album content is diverse and it reveals the multi-faceted aspects of Davis's heart and mind. This is a promising debut from the singer/songwriter; her future projects will have high expectations.

Alana Davis has an incredible voice and feel to her music. I can't wait to get "Release Dorothy." In fact, I will probably buy every CD she ever makes. I love the pop/jazz feel of her music. This is a definite buy - you will not go wrong with this one.

Alana Davis is famous for her hit "32 Flavors", but beyond that, I had never before heard her stuff. I was absolutely amazed to hear her reggae style and acoustic talent. She is an incredible song writer...not one bad song on the album!!

Like every track!! I play again and again!! A true masterpiece and MUST HAVE

Wow. Alana just has a voice thats...... Smokey. Like huskey, but sweeter and more sexy. And the almost efortless way she slides through songs is amazeing. This CD seemed to alternate from up-beat tempos, to soft, sad balads. All with her mix of jazz, R&B, and a little regae. Truely a wonderful album. I didn't even like some of the songs the first time around, but they've grown on me wonderfully, and I now listen to them when my soul is in need of soothing. She has a way of just letting your mind wander as you listen to her music, something that really helps after a long day or on the car ride home. A wonderful CD everyone should have a shot at once.

Why don't more people know about Alana?

I fell head-over-heels in love with Alana's voice and sound on her debut album "Blame It On Me" and was ecstatic when I bought this one. I must admit that I wasn't initially as into it as "Blame It On Me" and set it aside for a year of two after a few listens. When I came back to it a year or so ago, I clearly heard what I had been missing before. Wow, so amazing! This album is quite a bit more mature and sophisticated than her first, as might be expected. Her sexy, smoky, wistful sound permeates every song. You get a little bit of sass on a few of the songs as well, including "How Many of Us Have Them (Friends)" and "Bye Bye".

One song that really connects the sound of "Blame It On Me" to this album is the beautiful song "I Want You". So sweet, so sexy. And the lyrics!

No apology because my urge is genuine
And the mystery of opposites attacting
Here I am and I want to take a hit
of your scent and it bit
so deep into my soul

So great!

There is not a single miss on the CD for me but there are definitely some standouts such as "I Want You", "When You Became King", "How Many of Us Have Them (Friends)", "Bye Bye", and "God of Love".

Alana is such an amazing talent. It's a shame that more people don't know of her. I guess that shouldn't be much of a surprise, though, considering the rather talentless wonders that dominate the airwaves and video channels. Too bad, just more of her for the rest of us who appreciate her!

I highly recommend this album as well as Alans's first. I hate to admit that I haven't checked out her third one yet, but will do so very soon.

This is an energetic and soulful cd!! Blame it on me was played to death in my house but recently replaced by Surrender Dorothy.It just rocks out on The Benifit and Create and smooths out with Desert Rose (my favorite)then The Reaper.Alanai s a one of a kind artist that seems to give it up to the universe .This cd is a must!!

Davis really shines here. Her first two records were commendable in their artistic integrity, production values and market risks, but this record really nails down what she does well: sings.

The arrangements are stellar, and the layers and twists really showcase her composition skills. Her singing is rugged and compelling, and if the lyrical content is any indication, this is clearly her "Sade" record: somebody must have broken her heart and the listeners get to benefit from the raw emotion that shines through from her experiences. She channels all of her previous potential, influences and the freedom that running her own label affords, and comes out with a stellar record.

The first time I heard Alana Davis was in a book store. This great music was playing in the background and that haunting voice kept pulling me away from the books, until I had to ask who it was. I left with my books and a copy of "Blame it on me", a disk that has been played more than any other in my 3000+ CD collection. The title track is still the sexiest song I have ever heard. When "Fortune Cookie" was released it was like a national holiday. It was a hard-to-understand collection of songs, but all the songs were just great, especially "Easy to love". And now, "Surrender Dorothy" is wearing out another CD player, as "Vision", "Create" and "Right There" are heard every single morning. This woman's voice is so pure, so haunting and edgey, as she swoops from note to note like a seagull over the sea. I just cant get enough, and I hope she wont make us wait so long for the next chapter. I cant describe it any better than that, just get it. Get all her stuff and take it on a drive along the Oregon coast alone or with a QUIET friend. By the end of your journey you will be in love with Alana Davis.

I got hooked on Alana's music after hearing "Fortune's Cookies" and this new disc does not disappoint. I agree with the Amazon review that Alana "is Joss Stone w/o pageantry & pyro". This voice needs no runs, riffs or layered backing tracks - it's just her and the guitars.

I love the entire album for its acoustic sound -her beautiful voice & lyrics demanded and commanded my attention- and enjoyed reading the words to the songs as she sang. She writes from a deeply lyrical place and w/o any seemingly radio-friendly sounds, unfortunately those seeking different types of music will have to discover Alana on their own.

The tracks that I have grown to love are: Letter, Vision, Wide Open (beautiful love song, great vocal & music production), Jaded(Goodbye) & Stay.

Out of her 3 albums, 'Fortune's Cookies' will always be my favorite but this one ranks a very close second.

honestly, i mostly enjoyed blame it on me (although i felt ripped off when i realized that 32 flavors was just a cover of ani difranco). BUT--here we go again, another cover (where is her original work????) and frankly, disappointing. also, alana needs to hit the gym. just throwing that out there. have you guys seen the website? check out the fortune cookies pic at www.alanadavis.com personally, i'd go back to the real CSNY or ani for that matter. nice try though.

I've been a fan of Alana Davis since her first CD came out in 1997. When I heard this song on TV, I hoped it was on her 2nd CD (it wasn't) and so I was THRILLED to see it had been released as a single. Lovely! I like her version even better than the original.

This single is awesome. I have both of Alana's cds--and they are amazing. I heard her on the Sony commercial, and I had to get it. The song is amazing and I never get tired of listening to it. It picks me up in the morning. Go out an get it!

Don't understand why someone like Nora JONES sells more records than Alana Davis. She has such a voice...

Never thought anyone else could do justice to the song except CSNY. I was wrong!! Alana's style is hip, fresh and emotive.

If you like Ani's version then definitely check out Alana's, if you like Alana's cover version definitely check out the original (Ani's)! The two songs are quite different but both deserve a good rating for their different reasons.

I would have never known of Ani DiFranco or her music had Alana not introduced Ani to me via this song. I enjoyed this song so much that researched Ani and have been lead to even more great music. I'm looking forward to Fortune Cookies. If not by Alana's own pen, she may introduce me to more wonderful writers. Alana, thank you for introducing yourself and Ani with this great song!

I would like to say 32 flavors is not Alana Davis's origional song so don't give her credit for the lyrics or melody IT IS ANI DIFRANCO'S WORK. It is on NOT A PRETY GIRL which came out before allana's album. One highlite of her work is how much shorter hers is than ani's but besides that it is not as good as the origional so first buy ani's album. Thank You

I am a die-hard fan of Zone 105 in Minneapolis. They just came out with this CD, "Zone Sessions," and even though I don't have it yet, they've played four of the songs from the CD on the radio, and they all sound great. Especially "Save Tonight" by Eagle Eye Cherry. I can't wait to get this CD!

This cd has all good songs recorded in the Zone 105 studios in Minnesota! Its a great cd!! Buy it!!
