I LOVE THIS CD BECAUSE I LOVE THE REGGAE ARTIST ALPHA BLONDY AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND IT ANYWHERE EXCEPT AT AMAZON.COM

While "Apartheid Is Nazism" is the supreme Alpha Blondy recording, "Masada" finds out hero in good form, giving us his message in 3 languages, thus showing the universality of the music he makes.

For me, this is a great improvement over his prior 2 efforts, "Jerusalem," and the very disappointing "Jah Jah Seh." Blondy is known for his very eccentric nature, and I think it reared its ugly head on those recordings.

This album is more back to basics for him, and the results, including the gorgeous "God Is One," "Peace in Liberia," and the touching "Mystic Night Moves," show that Alpha is making his way back, and the music from his band the Solar System (the modern day Sun Ra and his Arkestra?) is excellent.

This lp is a return to form for Alpha Blondy, and is recommended.

Blondie's 8th album sparkles with fluid melodies, luscious riffs and his wistful, plaintive voice singing in Dioula, French nd English. Particularly gripping tracks include Rendez-vous, desert Storm, Peace In Liberia and the incredibly beautiful Sciences sans Conscience and Ca Me Fait Si Mal with their singalong melodies and hypnotic rhythms. Alpha Blondie is assured in his artistry and he's got the tunes to back it up with. Masada is a winning album where every track is a hit.

This CD may have to grow on me. There is a few classic tracks. To call this CD The best of Alpha Blondy is hard to do. The high point is, The Wailers is on a few tracks. Im very new to Mr.Blondy. I was really impressed with Yitzhak Rabin. My next CD by Alpha will be, Masada

Alpha Blondy is a unique artist. Hailing from Africa's Ivory Coast, this talented and inspiring musician is capable of some of the most infectious and moving songs in the reggae genre. This compilation contains several of those songs. Unfortunately it also contains some very weak material as well. The first 5 songs on this c.d. are brilliant, and are almost worth the price of the c.d. alone. The problem is that one would be much better off purchasing one of his early works. My suggestion would be "Jerusalem." That being said, if you've never heard Alpha Blondy even this less than perfect compilation is a worthwhile investment.

So your not an Ivory Coast rocker? Well, it doesn't matter. Have you ever wondered why people listen to reggae? Did you think reggae was just Bob Marley? Well than you should pick up this album and get and education. If you are an avid reggae fan, than your collection is not complete with a little Alpha Blondy, and this album is a good place to start. They keep it irie mon, and the beats are always right on. I think there are very few groups that understand music as an international language, and Alpha Blondy understands perfectly, reaching out across the globe to all people and cultures. So do yourself a favor and pick this up, kick back, and relax...maybe even light a spliff. Other than that, this is one of the best albums I own.

What a review of that Marconi... Language is the first sign that can separate people. This discrimination is also nazim, my dear ! Hopefully Alpha blondy, however his mother tongue is not english, can break the barrier of the language to communicate.

So maybe I can advice you a nice song of Alpha Blondy, called "Armée Française", which means French Army...., you should just replace the title and the words of the song with whatever designing worst then such colonial attitude of yours. Simple words are in it as in all songs of him, but sure you will be able to understand as millions of African understand his educative message!

Okay, a lot of this album is in French. I don't know French. I usually don't get into music when I can't understand the lyrics. This album is an exception. I got it about 4 months ago and I've listened to it nearly every day since then. Despite not understanding the words, I have every word memorized. Please, trust me. Buy this album. It is truly amazing. I have about 4 Alpha Blondy albums and I have to say this is his strongest.

From the opening song Wari, this is simply a musical explosion. The background vocals are perfect. The bongos are extraordinary. It's a beautiful blend of horns, guitars, drums and vocals. The instrumentals are top, top quality. Better than Burning Spear. Better than Fela Kuti. The album is extremely upbeat and positive. They lyrics are all rastafari.

The best tracks are Souroukou Logo and Quitte Dans Ça. When Alpha breaks into the chorus in Souroukou Logo, you'll be floored. The ladies singing background in Quitte Dans Ca rival the I Threes, and I know that's a bold statement.

If you like reggae, if you like African music, shoot, if you like MUSIC, you will love this album. Buy it, put it in, turn it way up, sit back and enjoy a truly amazing musical experience. You are in for a real treat.

When I first heard this album, especially "God Bless Africa" , I
got chills just as I did when I saw "Brother Bob" in Chicago in
the seventies. Buy this CD!

Some of his albums have rough and strange passages, but on the whole Alpha Blondy has the classic wail in his vocals, and sings with passion. One can hear the sneer in his voice when he sings Armee Francaise in 'Yitzhak Rabin'...you can feel the attitude, even the pain, like when Bob Marley sang early in his Wailers lead career before the sound became heavily produced in studios. I think Alpha Blondy is one of the greats of reggae. Even patchy albums have at least two to three serious powerhouse tracks, enough (for me) to wanna get it regardless. Merci is no different; it's a fantastic album except for an odd foray into rock which while strange is not unpleasant. God Bless Africa is absolutely brilliant!!

Instrumentation is superb. Vocals by Alpha Blondy is crisp and clear. Any weakness? Yes. For me, track 1 sounded a little offbeat, perhaps, because it is very hard to do better than the Ojays original version.

This is a very solid CD. Guitars, horns, and drums (oh the drums!) come alive on this CD. The impeccable arrangement and masterful delivery of many tracks, especially 3, 5, and 6 shows Alpha Blondy is the real Reggae master from Africa.

It is hard to listen to this CD sitting down. I dare you to listen to track 3 sitting down. Relax your grip, and let go of your money this time. Buy this CD. You will have no regrets!

If this CD doesn't get you moving then you are dead. Period. This music is a good and lively experience. Les Bon Temps Roulez.

This album is fun to listen to, and has a great reggae feel to it, but doesn't show Alpha's songwriting ability, in my opinion. Perhaps he's trying to reach a Western Anglophone audience, but his English lyrics didn't do much for me.

This man and his musicians, to me, are among the best artists, leaders, spiritual teachers, healers EVER to walk the earth. I give thanks for their work.

This record is fantastic. It is one of the best albums that I have in my collection.

This Album is a must for any serious Reagee fan, world music appreciator or just someone with good taste for rythm and lyric that stimulate the mind and ear! I can not imagine anyone being dissapointed with this album, it will deliver you a lifetime of enjoyment

Every song on this cd is great bottom line!! If you like reggae and who the hell doesn't, add this to your collection!! This is by far Alpha's best album! If you like Bob then get this, TRUST ME you will enjoy this album and will play it constantly!! Alpha is a nice break from Marley since he is unfortunatly overplayed! The cd is cheap for the quality of music. I do recommend you get this cd before the greatest hits cd, because Alpha's best songs (my opinion) are on this cd. ENJOY!!

To begin with this was a birthday gift from my brother who knows that I love
reggae and specially in other languaje, (french), also the cover and the inside pictures are great, it makes me feel like I'm with Alpha.
Also the meaning of the songs try to give us a positive message on every day live.

This concert-recording features a serious line-up of tracks in an amazing, quality live performance. The tracks come from such albums as Revolution, Cocody Rock, Jerusalem, Apartheid is Nazism and Masada, and the instrumentals and vocals pull through brilliantly throughout. I espeicially enjoy Cocody Rock, an excellent song in both the live and studio versions.

I'm a huge reggae fan with ALOT of reggae albums and through the years this album has always stayed in heavy rotation. Although most of the lyrics are in French the music really speaks for itself. There are few reggae albums I would consider in the category of this album (Right up there with Babylon by Bus). The sound mix is amazing. I wish all live albums could sound this good. The bass player alone makes this album worth purchasing but there is also great percussion, organ and brass instrumentation that make this album great. If you like good reggae music, played and jammed to perfection then you NEED this album in your headphones.

PS. This is the album above all albums to have if you like to listen to reggae while you ski. Hands Down!

This is one of my favorite reggae albums, one of my favorite live albums, and just one of my favorite albums. The album opens with an intro, a man pumping up the Parisian audience for Blondy's appearance on stage; this is followed by a musical intro and then Blondy himself. The tracks blend together well, and the overall flow of the album really makes me feel as if I was there or had seen the show. The music is amazing, full of spirit and energy, sometimes fast, at times more subdued, perhaps imparting a feeling of reverence. The bass is strong, as well as the horns--sax, trumpet, and great trombone. Blondy's lyrics are equally captivating and inspiring; he sings here in several languages, primarily French and English. The theme is predominantly spiritual, and has influences from Christianity (as in Come Back Jesus), as well as Islam, Judaism, and others. I really admire his message of transcending "religious" differences to unite in spirituality. Check it out. There are also several songs of a more political vein, such as Politiki and Multipartisme. If you're into Alpha Blondy, or are even interested, check out this album!

i dont like the new albums that much.cocody rock which was recorded in paris in 1984 features aston barret of the wailers on bass .and about 20 other musicians.the album is short and great a true classic!!

Im new to Alpha Blondy. I don't understand the language, but the music is serious roots. This is a great reggae cd, if you are looking some roots. I love the RAI or the middle eastern, African sound. Those last three tracks could really rock a party.

I LOVE this Cd it is absolutely roots & its rhythm sets your soul free. All the CD is great but My most favorite songs are (4)Imbeciles and (5)Armee Francaise but (7) Guerre Civile (10)are really good too. 4 and 5 are in french (i understand a bit of the language) but i love them so much that i learned all the words by heart! I just loove reggae, by far i say the top living reggae artist.

As a prophet, Alpha Blondy sees the world above the average person. Israel might be far from his homeland, but his desire to see the world in peace make his world bordeless. Yitzhak Rabin should revived our mighty heart with love,essence of life.

The French (I think!) songs in the album are more melodious than the 2 English songs. I don't understand a word of what he sings in those songs... but I still love them. That's the power of music!! Given the name of the album I was reluctant to buy this CD but I am glad I did!! Great music!!

"How extraordinary," you may wonder, "for a reggae artist to dedicate and name one of his albums after an assassinated Israeli prime minister." But this comes as no surprise if you are familiar with Alpha Blondy and the message he has been spreading for years through his music. He is truly one of reggae's greats, and throughout his entire career has been creating spiritual reggae that smites injustice in one lyric and promotes peace and brotherhood in another. One of his early songs, "Jerusalem," should be used as a blueprint for the Middle East situation or other zones of conflict. After singing a line of prayer in Hebrew and Arabic, Blondy intones, "We can see Christians, Jews and Muslims...living together and praying Amen...let's give thanks and praises!"

"Yitzhak Rabin" is infused with the same spirit as Blondy's other albums. It's great music with a message, delivered as only the power of righteous reggae can. This is Rasta spirit exemplified, but you don't have to be a Rasta to appreciate Blondy's beats and humanistic views.
