Amerie

You either love her or you hate her! I personally enjoy her music. I think this second album is much better compared to her first album. Her vocals are decent and the sound is really crisp. She has some great love ballads and the album is 100% great to drive to. Not anyone can stand Amerie, so be warned, her voice can get kinda annoying at times.

I can't count how many times, in my rather long R&B listener experience, i've seen female singers penalized by the lack of intensity and originality of the music wrote for them. Obviously, these are the results of some curious marketing strategies, which states that an "anonymous" musical style isn't too risky to compromise the disk selling...above all, when it's associated to a good look and a promising voice.
Unfortunately, Amerie's solo albums can be usually included into this huge roster of "defused" disks. Aside the catchy (but a bit noisy) single, it's difficult to find into this disk a single tune blessed by a glimpse of originality. An album like this it's like some industrial ice-creams. They've a seductive package, but five minutes after that you've eated them no taste remains into your mouth...and you're still hungry.
I wish to specify that i'm not an hater. Absolutely. I'm expressing this opinion because i think that Amerie can have a very good potential, how performer, if only she could be supported by an adequate musical production. She seems to be even a down-to-Earth artist, so i hope that sooner or later she will be able to express her capacities to the fullest...leaving behind her shoulders the current and limitative status of good "background singer". Marketing can be an interesting human science...but i'm afraid that to be a musical fan doesn't mean automatically to be a deaf person.

This is the second time that I bought this CD. The first one got scratched, and I love the CD so much that I bought it again. It's very rare to come across someone in the entertainment business who has not only talent but also a college degree, and for that I am a fan. Her first album consisted of songs with a slow tempo (about 80%), and this album is a great combination of fast and slow tempo songs. This is an excellent buy for anyone!!

One cannot deny that Amerie is a talented singer. She has one of the most beautiful voices that I have ever heard. Touch was the first album i purchased by Amerie. And it was one of the best albums I have ever bought in my life. There are so many club hits on this album. Each track has the potential to be a hit in some genre. Her voice soars to beautiful heights on this album. The only song i do not like is her duet with R&B songster Carl Thomas, entitled Can We Go. But this song does not take away from the album's sheer amazingness. This album shows a more mature Amerie from her debut effort. One of my favorite songs ever is on this album. The song Just Like Me is my favorite track on the album and I think is one of Amerie's best recordings. Overall, this album is a club banging hit that should be more recognized more than it currently is. This propelled Amerie into the A-List in the musical world. Everyone should listen to this album sometime in their life. A true classic in it's own respect.

The sophomore jinx is something that never crossed Amerie mind with this album. I love Touch just as much as I love All I Have. 1 Thing was just a start and a great 1st single for a great album. This album is hot and well rounded because it's up beat but laid back as well. I put this album on repeat constantly because it just that good. This album is top five and I think you will love it also. Do yourself a favor and go get this album, you won't regret it.

I don't undertsand why people sleep on Amerie when she really does have a voice and some talent. Her third album was like the playful upgraded eighties album. I enjoyed almost every track but the ones that tried to make her sound hard! great album!

I only got it because it was recommended to me otherwise i wouldnt have known about it myself which is unfortunate as this release sees her go in a direction that most arent going into. It has a feel from one of the earlier decades 70s or 80s feel but updated with today's sound to it that makes just about every track on here an instant winner. Even included her smash hit "1 Thing" on this import and an extra song as well, Making this import of Because I Love It that much more appealing. I hope that her next effort isnt shelved and not released to the public because Amerie continues to grow and emerge as an artist to really watch.

For you Amerie fans, all I have to say is "Why did this album never make it to the US?" It's an awesome collection of music that has a 80's touches here and there and it's AWESOME! For those who are not too familiar with her music, let's just say if you're OVER Beyonce and looking for some originality and good stuff, look no further! Amerie also has a Mix Tape "Because I Love It Vol. 1" and it's SLAMMIN!!!

It is apparent that Amerie worked very hard on this cd and pushed herself beyond her previous efforts!! It's unfortunate that this cd was released in Europe only...because of someone else! But the stupid move by the record company will cause her to be an international star as it seems she will be if her management is paying attention. Anyway this is my first Amerie cd and there are some songs I could do without but there are some songs she nails over and over again! She put in work!!!!

If you decide to get this cd, the best songs on there is: 'Make me over', 'That's what UR', and 'Somebody up there must love me'.....everything else sounds like she hopped in a time chamber and just said "80s! To the rescue!!!", but yeah, Im sorry Amerie. That's probably why it never got released in the states.

I don't think Amerie gets enough credit. The production on this album goes perfectly with her voice and lyrics. All I Have is a true R&B album. Touch is a solid follow-up to this classic.

If somebody asked me what my favorite Amerie album was, I would have a hard time answering. Touch has good collabos with rappers (T.I., Eve) and some great songs for summer. Because I Love It has a good collection of dance tracks and several midtempos and ballads. This album, All I Have, is mostly ballads and midtempos, where she started off. Amerie debuted in 2002 with almost no songwriting accomplished on the album, except a measely part in the short outro. I know that people tend to beat on singers who don't write their own songs, but I feel that Amerie carried out singing them as if they were written by her. And that may seem easy, just sing songs that someone writes for you, but many singers make it seem easy like anyone could do it. Amerie puts her own feelings into it. From the versatile Talkin' To Me to the 90's soul feeling of Hatin' On You, the album is undeniably filled with ballads but sure to please.

I love R n B and amerie give an upbeat performance every time out. Worth The Buy.

This girl can blow. Someone had to bascially force me to listen to her first cd (wasnt feeling her first single), but after the second single that was all it took. I can listen to this mellow cd all the way through (which I always do, which makes it hard to point out the titles of the tracks lol). I love her voice, runs, and the pure essence of her voice, and she damn easy on the eyes too. Her publicity team needs to be blindfolded and shoot not the capitalize on this humble and beatiful girl.

Every since I heard this album, I have been a fan of Amerie. This album consists of mostly slow tempo songs which can be very relaxing. Almost every song on here is a favorite for me, which is rare on most albums.

Was very happy with my CD. Entire process was positive. Easily found what I was looking for on Amazon. Thought the price was fair. Received item in timely fashion & in perfect condition. Would shop again...in fact, I did today!

Bought this for my [...] who loves the movie...and now LOVES the CD. He is all about basketball these days...so this is perfect to put in the boom box and shoot some hoops!!

Can anyone help? It's kind of a dance-y, rave track played during a scene of a basketball game in the movie..it might be played during Calvin (Lil Bow Wow)'s first NBA game...I'm pretty sure it came out around 2000-2001...does anyone know what this song is?!

At first I was a little skeptical because her first album was so good I didnt think she could do it twice but I was pleasently surprised...

Not being in touch with the R&B scene as I once was, Amerie only came to my notice upon seeing 'Hitch', which featured her massive single `1 Thing'. From there I borrowed a copy of this CD to see if the rest of the songs came up to scratch. For me the best moments on this CD, are when the producers get that `Retro Vibe' going on. 1 Thing is the classic example. By using a portion of a Meteor sample, they have built a new song around it, that upon first hearing, I thought could have been from the seventies. `Rollin Down my Face', by using a Roy Ayers sample (Searching), also falls into this category. Sampling old tunes in this way, meets my approval, as it is cleverly done, and doesn't song as if the singer/rapper are performing over an instrumental version of the original (a la P Diddy, or whatever he is calling himself nowadays). All I Need. With it's speeded up vocals sound goods, and I loved the collaboration with Nas, on the UK Album version, of 'Man up', with it's 80's feeling vibe.The remainder of the CD is really no different to what's out there at this moment in time, but the retro vibe mentioned is enough reason for me to consider buying this CD.

Amerie seemed like she was doing fine a while back when she scored with songs like "Why Don't We Fall In Love" and "Talkin' to Me". But then, almost two years ago, she came back with the song "All I Need". It didn't receive much of a response, which is probably why her second album got pushed back (although that song IS on here). But Touch was finally released this year.

I agree with reviewer Paul Clarke when he said that Amerie has a limited vocal range. Honestly, she never really was a spectacular singer (and I'm not exactly sure where the reviewer that said "watch out, Beyoncé" is coming from). But what brings things down even more on here is the average songwriting. The only real standout I can see is the lone ballad, "Just Like Me", which was co-written by Sunshine Anderson (yo, Sunshine, any chance on a second album???).

The made-for-the-club songs are the biggest mistakes, like the lazy "Talkin' About" and the irritating "1 Thing" (sorry, I never liked that song). And the Eve-assisted remix of that song doesn't help or hurt the album, nor does the new version of "Why Don't We Fall In Love". Even Carl Thomas' appearance on "Can We Go" can't save the album.

The rest of the songs pretty much go by without being too memorable. In fact, the only thing I think most people WILL remember about this album is how virus-inducing the copy-protection is. Anyway, borrow this album from a friend if you must, because I really don't think Touch will touch you.

I hadn't really known too much about Amerie. She emerged in a post-Aaliyah era along with Ashanti, though Ashanti proved to be a more commercial viablity than Amerie. I do know that a producer named Rich Harrison first emerged producing her first album "All I Have" & her first single "Why Don't We Fall In Love?". The single & album from what I understood showed promise for both of them in 2002.

Rich of course would go on to produce for Beyonce' & Jennifer Lopez amongst others. The question remained though, where was Amerie?

Then in the early spring of this year "1 Thing" Amerie's newest single from the then forthcoming album "Touch", catapulted her into the collective minds of both mainstream R&B and pop audiences. That single, helmed by Harrison, showed that despite the previous big guns he'd worked with his D.C. "Go-Go" sound worked best with Amerie's sweet stylist voice. The song featured a feverish sample from The Meters' "Oh, Calcutta!" which had an undeniable pop hook & an amazing R&B dance edge. The video was great because it recalled Jody Watley's runway piece from 1989 "Real Love", it was good to Amerie stepping up her game. This all of course made me take notice & made me purchase "Touch".

Overall, Amerie is a standard commodity as a writer & singer. She has an eye on the pulse of how she delivers what would be mediocre in the hands of others, & makes it stylish & accesible for her. The "go-go" sound is pretty much laced through the record, & only maybe three tracks fall flat; the garishly produced Lil' Jon crunk/go-go-lite affair of the title track comes to mind.

Otherwise, this is a pleasant mainstream black pop record. Hooky, stylish, & sexy without being trashy. Another thing I liked about this record (barring a pointless remix redux with Eve of "1 Thing") is that the basic album is an Amerie record. She didn't hide behind any big name MC's, Amerie did her thing.

Highlights for me would include an amazingly emotive duet between Amerie & Carl Thomas on "Can We?", the hip-swaying "Talkin''Bout" (great horn sample), & effortlessly pretty "Rolling Down My Face". Ballads & uptempo jams are a plenty here. Though this record would be lost in a chart dominated by Mariah's "comeback" success, Amerie still made an impressive sophmore record.

Her next record should be interesting.

On a sidenote, I own the original release which featured the Sony "spyware" mess that has caused quite a stir. I reviewed the Dualdisc version so the reviewe could be read, I don't own this version.

Def an Awesome album, one of the best for 2005!! I Really wish that Man Up would had beem released on the regular CD, so that more people could hear it. Man Up is the best track on the dual disc and one of the best on the "regular" cd, whatever you want to call the part of the disc that only plays in CD players. My favorite tracks are 1 Thing, All I Need, Touch, Talkin' About, Rolling Down My Face, Can We Go, 1 Thing (Remix), Why Don't We Fall In Love (Remix), and Man Up (Feat. Nas).
