Annie Lennox remarkable performance last night on the America Music Awards was absolutely breathtaking, I had tears flowing from my eyes . I would like to know the name of that song she sang? Her receiving the merit award for her music, charitable work and the thank you to Dave Stewart was incredible. Annie you will continue to have Sweet Dreams. This album is great! I have recently discovered Annie Lennox and her past pursuits (the awesome Eurythmics), and am loving her newest album. Annie's voice is something I could listen to for hours and never get tired of. Her lyrics are deep and her songs are catchy without losing that soul which makes her music unique. Her emotion shows in these songs, and for the better. Go buy it, please! Can't wait for the next album.

At first I wasn't sure I liked Annie's return to us. After listening a few times to it I was absorbed into it. Her depth and growth became clear. She has matured and it shows.

I was just begining to find out who Annie Lennox was around the time "Songs" was coming out, i had seen a snippet of the "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) music video on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 80's and i immediatley had to know everything about this artist. I did my research just in time to see that she had just recentley released a Brand Spankin New Cd entitled "Songs Of Mass Destruction". Well with a name like that, WHO can resist? so i bought the cd and BOY WAS I GLAD!

SOMD is a collection of wonderfully crafted semi-dark ballads that are borderlining sheer perfection. Annie's voice is so pure and heartfelt. Your body feels every note she sings.

I've been an Annie fan since I first heard her vocals on "Never Gonna Cry Again". Having said that: This LP just doesn't impress me. The overt political title segways into a plethora of utter nonsense of political diatribe set to music. It seems as if Annie is trying to channel Bono on this record. Lennox's music has always come from a dark place, "Savage" being one of my favorite albums to date, but the themes on these songs leaves one feeling melancholy. There's no triumph in the final analysis. "Coloured Bedspread" has a catchy ring and just hearing Annie's vocals gives this a 2 star, beyond that, this LP isn't what an Euryhmic or Lennox fan would appreciate. I know I don't appreciate it, on a musical level. Isn't that what Lennox is about: Music? What happened to poetic politics?

Another beautiful selection of music from a fine movie. It might be something nice to play while you're reading or working on homework. There's something utterly relaxing about listening to a good soundtrack. I've found it a nice way to mark time when I'm working at home. Surprisingly, it can also help you study. I'm no official expert on that, but it personally worked for me.

In any case, a worthy investment.

This is just a note to confirm that this product truly is the actual soundtrack of the movie. Earlier, I was fooled into buying a cheap, synthesizer version of music "from" the movie. Rest assured that this CD contains the same rich, magnificent music (instrumental and vocal) from Return of the King that you remember. It will trigger the same emotions.

It was nice that Annie Lennox's "Into the West" was included as the final track.

Okay, I was already determined to love this album when I found out that Renee Fleming stars in three of it's pieces. But Howard Shore truly does provide a gorgeous presentation of his musical talents. Keeping in mind that this is a movie track, and therefore, there is a lot of "incidental" music in this album. It's not always riveting without the action of the movie to complete the story. But that is a challenge every composer of film music faces.

Flemming is flawless, providing a straight-tone (no vibrato), eerie, airy sound in her performances to emphasize the other-worldly influence of this music. One wonders how authentic her "elfin" would be, but since her vocals are nearly indistinguishable from the orchestra, the accent could hardly be determined anyhow.

The End Of All Things is an amazing piece of compositing, and I've been listening to it over and over. As stated by other reviewers, I don't feel that Annie Lennox was the best choice for Into The West. Her voice is harsh and out of place next to the rest of the performance. However, this might have been intentional on the part of the composer, and I will attempt to understand, while taking a star from a perfect score!

I am quite surprised by the number of reviews that don't give this five stars. Never has there been a score that can provide such depth and emotion in every second. I almost cry every time I listen to it.

Sweeping, epic, beautiful...words can't quite do it justice. I've done my best, the music does the rest.

If you buy anything, buy this.

Its so hard to choose a favorite amongst the 3 movie soundtracks. They are all so wonderful and differnent. Each film has its own distinct music and they are all so good. Its impossible to pick a favorite or even find one single piece of music that I did not like. Its such a moving and powerful soundtrack. And every time I hear it, I think back on the wonderful film and remember every single scene that the piece of music was attached too. Its relaxing and melancholy and sublime. The Return of the King is my favorite film out of the 3, and I think I am leaning towards this soundtrack as my personal favorite as well. And I love Annie Lenox's last song on this. It is so touching and powerful, it gives me chills every time I hear it. I actually have the 3 set as one boxed set, but could not find it on Amazon anymore, so I am reviewing them all individually.

Annie certainly has a wonderful voice, her genre is not my usual venue, but there is no denying her singing "Why" is one of those songs that becomes timeless, it just flows and wraps itself around you as you listen. All it took was one listen while fiddling around on the radio one day and I had to seek that tune out. Beautiful. Kudos Annie. Thanks.

I'm fairly certain I own every CD you ever made. Including everything with The Eurythmics.

DIVA is my favorite. The strength of her voice, never stronger. The lyrics and melodies ... solid.

This is a CD that should be purchased, not downloaded from the internet.
You lose too much in a digital MP3 format.

This is a must own for anyone, any age group that loves music and a quality product.

I still enjoy listening to this album 15 years after its release. Annie Lennox really delivered with an outstanding album of 11 tracks. Diva marked the departure from her collaborations with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and although there's not as much synth-pop on Diva, Lennox's lyrics on her solo work are just as honest and profound (if not more) as they are on her Eurythmics' compositions.

My favourite tracks are "Why" - this has got to be one of the most beautifully written songs of all time. This song is so emotive and one feels Annie's pain, particularly towards the end. Other standouts are "Cold", "Money Can't Buy It", "Precious" and especially, "The Gift".

If the Diva CD doesn't satisfy your hunger for Annie, pick up the Diva DVD, which features a collection of music videos from the album including "Why", "Legend In My Living Room", "Cold", "Money Can't Buy It", "Precious", "The Gift" and "Keep Young and Beautiful". Annie reinvents herself in each video to be consistent with the tone and feelings of each song. It's an absolute must-have for any Annie fan.

Annie Lennox never disapoints, almost all of my favs are on this CD from "why" about a disintegrating relationship. "Money can't buy it" a quest for material things & loss of love, to a very intense "cold" about non-reciprocated love, we can all relate to her material at sometime in our lives, she has an incredible gift to express her heartache/passion &/or pain/joy through her awesome voice & lyrics.

I'm a piano teacher and jazz piano player. One of my student's parents gave this to me. It's great because you get Herbie's legendary jazz piano playing in a lot of different settings with interesting and mostly succussful results. Especially notable are the remake of Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" (Stevie plays a solo, but is not the singer!), Angelique Kidjo and Santana, a stunning performance by Christina Aguilera (if she made an entire album of material like this, it would possibly be one of the greatest jazz vocal albums ever... how can somebody even say something like that? you have to hear her with Herbie... she's so good it's scary... a pop singer with an alter-ego... almost as ridiculous as if Britney Spears were cutting jazz records on the side like Ella F or Sarah V--totally not fair!!! Anyway, this is about Herbie, and the album provides a good introduction to why he's the man. Check out the guest artists and the songs, and if you know and like them, you'll love this album....

Yet another pleasant surprise from HH. For those who truely enjoy LISTENING to music.

Not to overstate it, but this is a fantastic release. Maybe diehard fans might balk but as a musician the artistry shown here is exquisite.

I was turned on to "Possibilities" by the Cable/DVD video documentary chronicling the making of this recording.

A very popular production tool these days, letting top musical performers invite other artists to join in the making of a new album by contributing diverse talents, unique styles, etc. creating new and exciting sounds.

Will definitely recommend to friends and fellow musicians!

This is one clean recording! Herbie chose special artists which added a unique touch to the different types of music recorded. Definitely a CD to treasure.... :>)

this cd is fantastic, this cd might of been put out in 2006 but when I seen the Documentary on this I could not wait to get it & it has been truly a reward...EXCELLENT!!!!

I am not an expert on classical music. Having said this, I can tell anyone who loves to listen to simply beautiful music, you cannot go wrong with this CD. It is heavenly. It is certainly aptly titled. One can easily day dream, work, read, dine, or make love whilst listening to this music.

Claude Debussy had been one of my favorite composers even before I knew how to write and behave like a big kid. Growing up my mother would play his tunes on the piano and flute and later I got to follow her footsteps and enjoy his dream like compositions. The French composer has been called the Impressionist and no surprised here, along with another favorite of mine, Ravel, dominated the turn into the twentieth century with his ethereal and magnificent creations. His unusual, radical harmonies have influenced artists that shape the world of music to this day.

This album has all of my favorite pieces, the melancholy Syrinx, bright and almost as if from a magical movie - Maiden with Flaxen hair, silky and soothing Reverie, Clair de Lune -something that sounds like star sprinkled night sky , Deux Arabesques - which I can play but not as well as my mom does - fantastic piano piece with waves of sound and floating chords. Other than Chopin no one else compares to Debussy when it comes to elegance and piano that touches me. This is perfect in the morning, afternoon or night, anytime I need soft, charming but never boring background music. Sometimes it's easy to forget that I'm listening to classical music, it simply sounds the way music should, without labels, taking my mind far away into a happier state. Those who like piano or harp compositions will enjoy this disc; it's really deliciously dreamy and cozy, very yum yum.

Definitely for daydreaming, or for putting the little one down at bedtime. Good start to those wanting to see if they like Debussy. Includes many of his most famous works (Clair de lune, etc.)

This is an excellent collection of interpretations of Debussy's works. This collection is a "must have" for those who want to lose themselves in some of Debussy's most touching compositions.

This CD is just pure magic. I know that is such a cliche' thing to say, but it really is. Of course, it really won't appeal to those people who are into EXTREME LIVING...whatever the hell that means, because to me, extreme living is living close to the soul, close to the spirit, close to the Invisible Source that makes and creates all things in and out of Itself.

Debussy was a composer who lived very close to this Invisible Stream. His music reflects a gentleness and yet a strength that flows throughout each composistion. The arrangements are dreamy and mystical and allows one to go into their "inner chamber" and pray in secret to the One who knows their heart as well as their soul.

As much as I love this CD, I tend not to listen to it in the car. I once listened to it while making a routine drive to Santa Monica. The CD stopped and I had somehow missed all of my exits and ended up in Ventura...talk about being in dreamland!

It's a great CD to put in your walkman and go to an outdoor cafe' where you can sip a cafe latte and write poems to an unknown lover whose face you cannot remember, but whose gentle breath is the scent of lavendar...oh, I wax poetic...so sorry...

If you are into quiet and stillness, get this CD...it's truly a breath of fresh air in this noisy, crowded, extreme world we have to be in but not necessarily of...

Annie Lennox is at her Bowie-esqe best with "Medusa," trying on songs by 10 different artists. No surprise - they all fit her versatile figure, showing again Lennox's style to be one of modern music's most charming and enduring.
For someone who had no special concept in mind (just "instinct," she writes in the CD jacket notes), Lennox delivers what sounds like a spiritual/religious odyssey.
"No More `I Love You's'" leads off showing a woman in despair. The penultimate line - "The language is leaving me" - is a successful grab at the idea of giving up on speaking words - rightly or wrongly - doesn't rid us our ability to communicate. Words end up subtly written on our faces. For Lennox's exaggerated but effective demonstration see her typewritten face inside the CD.
"Take Me to The River" is about seeking escape in spirituality and/or religion. "A Whiter Shade of Pale" has the uplifted soul trying to move in a new direction. The soul tries to keep to the high road but as King Solomon told us the past is always with us ("What is bent cannot be made straight," Ecclesiastes 1:15). Lennox delivers a modern translation - "...The mirror tells (told) its tale." The context and Lennox's sweeping vocals make this the most soulful version of "Whiter Shade" you'll ever hear.
"Don't Let It Bring You Down" is the uplifted soul moving beyond itself and meeting the fallen world, coming in unfamiliar contact with something it knew at a different level. There's optimism avid revulsion - "Find someone who is turning and you will come around."
"Train in Vain" and "I Can't Get Next to You" are about relationship failure. While telling us it's love that counts, the artist reminds that economic misfortunes are not to be overlooked - "Got a job but it don't pay."
"Downtown Lights" is about venturing out from unsuccessful relationships. Lennox points out the wide gulf we face in trying to establish new intimacy, especially if we attempt to compress time - "How do I know you feel it?"
"Thin Line Between Love and Hate" and "Waiting in Vain" are broken relationships - Round 2. "Thin Line," with its wrenching lyrics and well-timed harmonica is the CD's most naked blues song. Lennox went to Bob Marley to give us a more contemplative take on love's frustrations. "Train in Vain" accelerates with shouts of anger but Marley's "Waiting in Vain" has the soul sputtering to resignation.
This sets up a perfect entrance for Paul Simon's "Something So Right." This song touches on the idea that we find the most-enduring love when we're not actively looking. Lennox shows us that a lot of what keeps us away from restful love is ourselves. Her references to "a wall around me" similar to the Great Wall of China and "it took a little time to get next to me" are poignant. Perhaps these are clues as to why she entitled the CD "Medusa." Recall the Medusa of Greek mythology turned men to stone. Lennox may be admitting that parts of her personality can have Medusa-like effects on people. Not me - I'd kiss your head any time, Annie, snakes and all.
"Something So Right" contains a profundity about the retarded growth of so many - "Some people never say I love you but like a child they're longing to be told." Another comes in explaining that time can be good medicine - "It took a little time but you calmed me down." This raises the question of who or what is the "you." It's not clear if it's G-d or man. Maybe it's neither or, as the great motion picture philosopher Forrest Gump said, maybe it's both.

I was 15 when this album came out and not even on this Earth when the originals were recorded and released. I remember hearing No More I Love You's on the radio a lot and the song became so magical to me. What I loved most about the album is that the songs take you to somewhere else, especially Don't Let It Bring You Down, you actually envision castles burning. I loved how Annie was the main vocalist and did her own backing vocals. It is so much work (we who are not SINGERS) don't know this, to provide ones own background vocals. So these songs became her records because her "voices" are all over the songs. My favorite song off the album is Waiting in Vain. I couldn't ever imagine Bob Marley singing the song but I can imagine him writing it. The song seems suited to a womans voice like Annie's. I always wondered why the album was titled MEDUSA. It does not matter, maybe I would have completely abhorred this album if I heard and grew up with the original songs by the original artists. But for now I am glad I did not.

This album is one of few where all the songs are good unlike most albums that have a lot of filler.

Annie Lenox and the Eurythmics made a name for themselves in the 1980s with their pop, soul and light rock.
In this album of covers, including covers by Bob Marley, The Clash and Paul Simon, Annie shows her rich and versatile voice once again with such richly reworked hits as the melodic No More 'I Love You's', the light rock Take Me To The River, the exquisite A Whiter Shade Of Pale and the bluesy I Can't Get Next To You.
This really shows off Annie's voice and is a good piece for a connoisseur
of light rock/soul to enjoy.

Few artists have pushed the boundaries of pop music more than Annie Lennox, so when I heard she was doing an album of "covers", I must admit I was disappointed. Why would such a creative force choose to rehash hits from other performers? Then, with great trepidation, I listened to MEDUSA, and all my fears we allayed. This is not your average cover album. On the contrary, MEDUSA is pure magic! The opening cut, "No More I Love You's" sets the tone, with a carnival-like atmosphere that is so unlike anything this reviewer had ever before heard, that I was forced to play this cut over and over, even before I advanced to the next song. It was pure rapture, and I was not disappointed as the remainder of the album played on. The classic "Take Me To The River" had an entirely new feel to it, as did the sometimes tired "Whiter Shade of Pale" into which Ms. Lennox breathes new life and soul. With so many strong cuts, it is hard to choose a stand-out, yet in addition to "No More I Love You's", the other favorite is "Downtown Lights". More dramatic that simple pop, these songs act as pure theatre, with Annie Lennox as the Ring Master....and Annie Lennox is one of the few current artists brilliant enough to carry it off. When you listen to MEDUSA, you will recognize the songs, but you will also hear them in a new and exciting way that transforms them into an entirely new work, filled with excitement and a fresh new spirit. This is the perfect cover album...adding new life and dimension to old classics.

I have all of Annie Moses Band's cd's and let me tell you- this is an insanely talented family! Two of the kids went to Juilliard and they are all naturally gifted in music. The music is written by the father, and everyone sings and plays an instrument. This cd has breathtaking Christmas music that will give you CHILLS! Best of all, this family is on fire for the Lord- they live it, breathe it, and sing it, and their music is a gift to us all. Buy this cd- you will NOT be disappointed! My ears have never heard such beauty!

Wonderful classical music. The CD is very relaxing and offers a wide variety of favorite classical music. I can't wait to listen to the other "Relaxing" CD's that are available.

This CD is ok and Obviously is not Grammy material. For the price it is ok but was looking for something "more relaxing." Sorry I cannot be more specific.

I was disappointed in this CD because I didn't find the music was as soothing as I would have expected from the title. Much of the music tended to be faster beats, loud, and somewhat "noisy". The CD is not bad, but it's just not as relaxing as other CD's I've listened to.

This is simply an exquisite collection of beautiful piano pieces. I am very satisfied with this purchase. I can read while listening to this music-call it background music...maybe, but even when you're doing something else-the music is there...it does not intrude, but it doesn't get lost either. I am having a hard time explaining this. I wanted music to relax and enjoy. I got just that with this collection. I think it's a bargain and highly recommend it!

Beethoven "Für Elise",Schumann Träumerei.I can highly recommend this CD to all pianolovers.

I've been listening to Bare for a fair part of this Labor Day weekend and it's time to file it away because it slips a bit more each time I play it. This is another in pop and rock's great tradition of picking over the fossilized ashes of a dead relationship. As if we didn't know that from the music, Ms. Lennox spells it out for us in exquisite detail on the back of the jewel case. Note to her and a zillion others: let your artistry speak for itself. No words of explanation will give life to inert work. And, equally, words will not enhance a masterpiece. It overwhelms on its own merits.

Bare is neither disaster nor masterpiece. It will never slip below three stars because Ms. Lennox is a pro. She's got a full-ranged expressive voice. She wrings every bit of yearning from a ballad and, over the years of collaboration with Dave Stewart in the Eurythmics, learned to use arrangements to reinforce those strengths and showcase her voice, lyrics, and emotions. For about half of Bare, those skills produce superb music and a swirl of regret, longing, anger, and loss -- Pavement Cracks, Honestly, and the three cuts toward the end of the CD that are its peak -- Loneliness, The Saddest Song I've Got, and Erased.

But as for the rest, think overkill, think self-pity and think -- especially -- long; The Hurting Time is meant to be a 7 and half minute high point of pain. Instead it is merely excruciating. And what to say about the arrogant Oh, God? Nothing.

Annie Lennox's BARE is somehow dark and revealing but decadent and expressive. It's vintage, classy older-woman-material and she seems to say what she's feeling without boring or overbearing you. In a word, BARE, is a sensual, no strings attached romp in the sack that's subtle, sensual and completely satisfying without a stubborn and sometimes burdensome and clingy commitment. It's well done!

I have posted this in my review of Songs of Mass Destruction. I am a new Annie Lennox fan, but she is brutally honest about life and issues people experience. Life IS hard. We aren't always where we want to be in our lives. Most people sing endlessly about lost love, and I get that...but it is not that she doesn't sing about it..but she transforms these issues into larger life statements. Her writing is flawless, and her courage for writing this album is amazing. I hope she found much reward from this album. It has touched my life. But Annie girl....next time give your sisters a call...it helps!! :)

The more I listen to this CD, the more I love it. I just cant get enough of it! I get more out of each song each time I listen to it.

I especially love Honestly and Loneliness, but, love all the songs.

I bought this Item from and Independant seller. THe description online was exactly the same as the item when it arrived; Factoroy wrapping, never been opened, great condition. The price, about 3.49, was an AMAZING price for a cd created in 2003. The shipping price was also totally amazing. Im so happy with this product. I listen to this CD Everyday. THankyou so much Mark!
