I'm a long time fan of Anouk and I'm a woman and American. I was blessed to be exposed to her talent when I was overseas in the Netherlands. Americans are missing out on a very talented and creative artist.

This CD is great! With the exception of the first two-three songs, I completely fell in love with this CD!!

I even love the title of the CD!

Hmmmm... I disagree with 'H. Griffin "Henk Griffin"'s' review "Anouk strikes Gold..." Though the album is good and fans of the artist will no doubt delight, this album would not reach radio play if Anouk were American. Perhaps if she were American she would get radio play in Europe. To my american ears, the sound of the album is VERY dated. The guitar riffs and melodies sound as if they are a mixture rehash of mid 90's alt/indy rock bands with a few sounding almost ripped from Don Henley. Anouk has a distinctive voice, yes... but it's not a remarkable one and her vocal stylings remind me of the female rockers of the late eighties/early 90's. I absolutely enjoyed this album and I highly recommend it for established Anouk fans. I simply disagree with prior review. All in all Anouk's music seems to me to be the sound of a woman discovering and reflecting upon her own soul... however, it hasn't evolved much through her career, and that perhaps is her biggest downfall.

Anouk Finally Strikes Gold with "Who's Your Momma" CD. Although Anouk has released a number of records with some really great under appreciated and under promoted songs, the albums have mostly been overburdened by ballads (that also happened to be fairly similar). However with "Who's Your Momma" Anouk has finally produced a great rock album with variety that you can enjoy all the way through with no songs you want to skip.

Half of Anouk's best 16 songs appear on this CD. If Anouk was American or British there would be at least 3 hit songs here. They are: the pop radio and MTV perfect "Ball and Chain", the hard rocking rip roaring ready for rock radio " If I Go" (great for the pole dancers at the local strip club as well), and the cheerful up-tempo "Good God" reminiscent of 60's Girl Bands and better than any Amy Winehouse number. There are also the potential hits: the semi-ballad "Make It Rain" and the bouncy "Might as Well" with it's typical Anouk vocals (sometimes it seems her vocals could almost becalled a musical instrument rather than a voice).

On this CD Anouk tried to do a few very different songs than her norm and with success. They would be the above mentioned " Good God" and the soul-like "Whatever You Say". There is also the country rockish "Modern world"l. There are thankfully only three ballads here as there always should have been. All three are excellent and among Anouk's best. They are: "Daze, "I Don't Wanna Hurt", and "If You Were Mine". The first two may also be potential singles.

Anouk has her influences as any musician does. However, she also has a strong individuality and creativity to make this a must have for anyone looking for new music from a woman that both rocks and sings beautiful songs. If you are female you can not help but love this album. If you are a male, as I am, that likes woman that can rock. and of which there are so pitifully few, you will also love this album.

I fear this CD will not achieve the promotion and radio airplay it deserves outside the Netherlands (Anouk is a Dutch singer). If not, maybe when Anouk releases her Greatest Hits package it will be a breakout success that is long overdue (as Peter Framptom's greatest hits double LP was in the 70's) and she will finally get the acclaim and record sales she deserves in the anglo world.

It's such a shame that such a talented singer with such a tight band hasn't been able to cross over the Atlantic. Her voice goes right through you. I've purchased all her albums. Except 'Graduated Fool,' the quality is very high. There are a few good songs on 'Fool,' but I think she was going through a creative lull. Buy this album and be one of the few Americans to know how amazingly good she is.

The woman can sing, i mean really sing its awesome how she can handle her voice from sweetnes to rough levels from low to high wow!!!! again, she really can sing, the music? yeah shes stuck into early and mid 80s wich is good at moments but after a while you get tired of that, the lyrics? well i have to say something to all that kind of women who think men will cry because they have decided they will not be available for a relationship or marriage ever (Greta Garbos sindrome, "I want to be alone")and men will beg and will keep interested on them.
Girls, we dont care!!!! do you want to be alone? be alone!!!
good luck with that, this is regarding "Nobodys wife" the rest of the songs with the exception of "sacrifice" and "fluid conduction" (wich are really overwhelming) are average pop songs.
im not dying to listen other Anouk cd however

Together Alone~ Anouk is not a very inspiring album at all and ones has the feeling that one has heard this millions of times before. Especially if one grew up in the 80's like I did. It sounds like boring 80's rock with trite lyrics, that talk about like nothing in particular. Nobody's wife sounds like she is writing for a feminist newspaper and is filled with cliches and typical lines found in leftist propaganda. The book-let is alright but she dresses like she bought her clothes at Target and they look baggy and is she lived on the streets or was part of some feminist movement. Very disapointed indeed.

The woman can sing, and she isn't afraid to tell you how it really is. Anouk is just oozing with talent, whether is it screaming or serenading with a ballad. "Together Alone" is one of her best CDs, and if you like it, you definitely need her "Urban Solitude" CD. One of the best musicians to ever come out of the Netherlands (in my opinion), and a Dutch rock goddess. Also check out K's Choice if you like Anouk. You won't be disappointed.

Anouk comes across as the kind of B-I-T-C-H who, after you've given her your best in the sack, gives you a nasty look and says: "Is that all?" This woman has an attitude that evokes Joan Jett, and her music bests that of JJ.
From the title track, in which Anouk hollers that she'll "never be nobody's wife!", this woman oozes with a seductive sexual energy. The fact that Anouk is mesmerizingly torrid, and the booklet that comes with the CD is chock full of her in titillating poses (I can just imagine adolescent boys spending hours holding the booklet up with one hand), doesn't mean that she is substituting sex appeal for talent: This woman has it all!
"It's So Hard" is the most outstanding cut on a cd full of outstanding cuts. Buy this compact disc and you'll agree that Anouk is the best thing to come out of the Netherlands since the Van Halen brothers (Eddie and Alex, that is).

the cd update by anouk is her 5th cd what can i say she gets better and better. Alot of the songs featured here were on her last cd graduated fool but dont let that deter you from buying this little gem as songs like too long she makes this song come to life it has a totally diferent feel to it and makes it such a beautiful track with just an accoustic guitar you can hear anouks voice so crisp and clear and what a voice. There isnt a bad track on the cd.Other favorites are Margarita chum, everything, oh all of them, theres a three live tracks as well a great buy this cd will be with me for years to come.I carnt understan why she has never made it big in the U.K. as she is better than most around.

Prior to hearing "Lost", I wasn't aware of Anouk but am so glad I found both the song and the cd! The range of music, the power of her voice are both well worth the price of admission. Would I recommend the cd? You betcha! grab it and give it a listen for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

SAVE YOUR MONEY!! The only track worth listening to is "Lost". The rest is trash!

I have liked Anouk since the first album,but to be honest only
a few song on the earlier albums really stand out.Now to the
hotel...the tracks is in perfect harmony whit rock,pop,reagge
and so on.Every track is good and many of them... hm,well even better.Her voice is raw,powerfull,sensitive and you can hear
that SHE sings from the heart and that means a lot.

I bought this CD in France and it's one of my favorite among my almost 500 CDs !!! the reggae version of "nobody's wife" is awesome and the acoustic songs ("I alone", "Don't" and "Love") sound good. I love the live-acoustic "lovin'whiskey" as well. They forget on the list two very good songs which are "in the sand" and "are you kiddin' me" (tracks 14 & 15 on the CD1) recorded acoustic in Anouk's kitchen !!!
DON'T BELIEVE what is written in the presentation of the CD, the tracks 13 to 22 are in fact on a DVD and are videos.
VERY IMPORTANT : The DVD doesn't work on american DVD players!!!

I also highy recommend her CD "Urban Legend" -- it is only available as an import here in the US but worth the money. Anouk recently had a baby and appears to be taking a break. When she resumes touring, for those in Europe, and if we are lucky enough to get her in the US, for those here, go see this lady in concert. Anouk and her bank rock. I was lucky enough to catch Anouk on her tour for "Urban Legends" in Munich, Germany. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. Anouk puts forth enough energy on stage to light a city!

Anouk Toejwee at times explores it all and through it all, this superhot Dutch band ROCKS! Janis, I think, would have touched on music like this had she lived. The Lost Tracks cd/dvd is a collection of unique renditions and recordings, some studio, some live, and some unplugged. When your favorite group puts out a cd like this, it's like Heaven dropped a rainbow on your heart!

After recieving this item I found out it is copy protect. I did not open the schrink wrap so I could return this. I only listen to music now from my Ipod. Thi smeans that I cannot purchased copy protect CD's. It would be nice if Amazon could give us a warning about this before we order an item.

It's the best album by Anouk by far!!

The latest album of one of the best female singers around. there are two versions of this cd, but the only difference is the color of the package. I own the black version, so I review this one. Anouk recently became a mother, but the only influence that has on her music is the lyrics. This album is more rock than the previous one. It shows a more mature women. A woman with an extremely powerful voice. If you know Anouk through her other albums, I don't have to explain anything. You can just buy this record and be happy with it. If you don't know Anouk, but you do appreciate good music, sung by good female singer, way much better than a Britney or a Christina, this is an album you won't regret buying. Just as her other albums. So buy this, and be jealous at her child for having such a cool,talented and handsome mother.

This is the third official studio album Dutch rock singer Anouk has made. After her outstanding second album she released "Lost Tracks" to fill up the gap. After being off for two years she has returned with a new album and a new band.
This particular album is meant to definitely establish her name internationally. It has been released in Europe by Dino/EMI where she will promote it with a tour and by performing on several festivals this summer. After that, the album is due to be released in the rest of the world.
However, I must admit I doubt if Anouk will achieve her goal. It's just that the album doesn't contain a song that will be able to do what "Nobody's Wife" did. Her bluesy voice is as strong as ever and the overall sound of "Graduated Fool" tends to be of a more alternative one. It contains some real blasters like the first two singles "Everything" and "I Live For You", but they're just too raw for frequent wide radio airplay. Or the reminiscing ballad "Margarita Chum" problably written in the same period as "Michel" from her second album, has to do the trick.
"Graduated Fool" is a sound album. Opening song "Too Long" shows a funky sound and "Who Cares" has a real nu-metal edge to it, with an up tempo Rammstein-like riff in the catchy chorus. The ballad "Hail" shows political commitment and the title track is a modest beautifully sung semi-ballad. The album will give Anouk international credibility and recognition within the genre, but I don't think it will generate many international hit singles. Still, go for it Anouk!!

I live in The Netherlands, but I just start to hear Anouk when I first arrive in the country. I love this album, she's a great singer...She sings with the heart, and her voice is so unique! I recomend any of ANOUK albuns, because she a very complete artist, you just can't stop to hear it! "Urban Solitude", "Michel", "The Dark" and "My best wasn't good enough" are my favourites!!

Urban Solitude is life on the streets; it's hard, it's rough, it'll hit you deep where you live. Good bands rise to the level of greatness traveling through the nightclub trenches, and the hard living shows in the music they write.

This album is a sheer mix of rock, ballads and raw emotion. Anouks raw voice carries the tunes with out fancy tricks as many female singers try to pull off. her vocal range in amazingly strong and so is her talent. I first got "Together alone" the album in Holland and fell in love with anouk. I like to keep her one of my hidden treasures and dont often play her cd unless alone.. get it now before its too late

this disc is great. my personal favorite songs are: #3 - "Are you kidding me" (where she asks the greatest question of all times: what has she got that I don't have?) #4 - "Tom Waits" (soft and romantic song) #5 - "Urban solitude" (for anyone who has ever felt lonely) #7 - "Michell" (so touching it would send chills down your spine. what first love is really like) and one of the best songs ever, #11, "cry". If you've been in a relationship where the other person was hiding their emotions, or have a hard time expressing your own - you WILL relate to this song. Not a lot of money to spend for a little peiece of heavan...

what can I say? Anouk knows how to sing...apart from the fact that she has a great voice.This record is one of the best she has made so far.Songs like "my best wasn't good enough" (which on my oppinion is the best on the album),"urban solitude","Tom Waits" and so on make my day better. I think others should at least listen to it..there are quite good lyrics.

Great album, I agree. I've heard that it's produced by Manu Chao, which sounds quite plausible from the sound of the album. Those who like Chao will find this album well worth a listen.

my roommate bought the cd and i liked it immediately. funky beats, reggae, and even nice sounding french language makes it a great cd. i guarantee you'll like it.

Not to be confused with the vapid, homogenous and much more popular (at least among less savvy European consumers -- the same ones that probably gave David Hasselhof some caricature of a singing career) work of the Blonde Dutchwoman also named "Anouk", the Anouk of "Automatik Kalamity" is from France, of Arab descent, sings in three languages, and has concocted an original blend of dub reggae, ska and electronica that dazzles as much with its basic instrumentation as it does with originality and clever lyrics. Many Lee Perry samples, of course, but one cannot do a decent reggae album without these. And the roots-ska feel of "Dog Day Afternoon" (Un Apres-Midi De Chien) are particularly amazing. I saw a video for this song on MTV Europe in a Swiss Hotel at three in the morning, and fell in love instantly. If you like Reggae, buy it! If you think French is a romantic language, buy it! It's good music to smooch to.
