Listening to Barbra Streisand's voice it's no mystery why she has sold millions of cd's according to the Recording Industry (RIAA) and Nielsen SoundScan. Included in this set is her last Top Ten Hit on "The Billboard Hot 100", "I Finally Found Someone" a duet with Bryan Adams (from her movie "The Mirror Has Two Faces") She's won multiple Grammy's and an Academy Award for her music, multiple Emmy's for her various television work (and her February 14, 2001 Fox/TV concert special had 8.7 million viewers according to Nielsen Media Research) She won an Academy Award for her role in the movie "Funny Girl" (tied with Katharine Hepburn) and received a Tony for her Broadway work. She's also well known for her political work, including her support of Hillary Clinton for President, Hillary Clinton went on to receive more votes than any other Presidential primary candidate in history.

For anyone out there who's a Barbra Streisand fan, this 2-set CD is a must-have! I may not necessarily agree w/ Barbra's political views, but I certainly love her voice and acting abilities.

I believe Barbra Streisand is a musical icon, and all should know who she is. This album is a masterpiece of all her greats, and I was especially happy to know that two of the Yentl songs were on this album. What a great movie that was!

I love this album. It is one of my favorites. The disco type song "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" with Donna Summer is a great 70s one. "The Way We Were" is a great slow song from 70s. Check out "Woman in Love" which is my favorite song by her. It is really just an amazing love song. "Memory" which is from the musical CATS she really sings well. A lot of other songs on here that are really good. She has such a great voice any song she sings sounds great. Sample them all. A great purchase.

You just know when you hear Barabara Streissand's beautiful and powerful voice, that you are in the company of star quality. Her Christmas album is one of the best I have heard. Her renditions of the religious favorites have great depth and feeling.

Some people might think it is weird that a Jewish performer would make such an outstanding Christmas recording, but I think that it is a testiment to what a wonderfully pluralistic and ecumenical society we have here in the USA. This CD also features two popular Christmas songs composed by Jewish Americans ("The Christmas Song" by Mel Torme and "White Christmas" by Irving Berlin).

It is very interesting how our American celebration of Christmas has evolved from a blending of various world cultures and traditions. That aside, Ms. Streissand remains fantastic in almost any genre of music.

Barbra was pregnant when this album was recorded, and it gave her voice a slightly reedy feel; just a little different, but oh so wonderful. She stirs you to new heights with her soaring voice on The Lord's Prayer, and her rendition of Silent Night is incomparable. What an original rendition of "My Favorite things"; simply sublime, simply Barbra. What a gift God us with Barbra!! Enjoy!!

If you are a fan of Streisand, or just a fan of Christmas music, you need to get this CD. My all time favorite!

For the most part, this album features classic songs, sung in the traditional manner by Barbra. Barbra really didn't need to do any more, given her wonderful voice, but she does have a few surprises in store. The opening Jingle bells is not done in the traditional way as Barbra gallops through most of it at breakneck speed. I appreciate Barbra's attempt to do something different but I prefer the standard arrangement. After that brisk opening, the album slows down and never again rises above mid-tempo as the remainder of the album is dominated by ballads.

Barbra may have been the first singer to include My favorite things (the Julie Andrews classic from the Sound of music) in a Christmas album. Nobody is surprised any more that this song sometimes gets included in Christmas albums. The only original song is The best gift (about a baby). Barbra sings it beautifully.

Of Barbra's two Christmas albums, I prefer the other one to this, mainly because the songs are more interesting to me, but I know that a lot of Barbra's fans prefer this one, which was recorded when her voice was at its finest - however, Barbra was still in good voice on the other album.

If you love Barbra's music and you enjoy Christmas music, you will want both of her Christmas albums, but if you only want to buy one of them, you have a hard choice to make.

I have always loved this album. I have it on vinyl, but was happy to purchase a CD version of this recording.

She certainly has a beautiful voice. I am enjoying hearing her in duets. Its wonderful.

AWESOME DUETS WITH BARBRA AND EVEN FRANK SINATRA!! NOT SURE IF HIS VOICE WAS ENTERED ELECTRONICALLY SINCE HE HAS BEEN GONE A WHILE. BUT GREAT ALBUM FOR ANY FAN.

I was so enthralled to hear the CD of Duets. I have always loved Barbra Streisands voice and this was just great. I enjoyed it enormously and listen to it all the time. Her choice of male singer was perfect.

I ordered the dvd and the cd, I enjoy them sooooo much! I listen to the cd every nite before bed and I'm sure I have seen the movie over 2 dozen times already! What can I say it is and always has been my favorite movie/soundtrack,

I love this CD. I had the record album years ago. It got all scratched up. I was so excited to see that you can get this soundtrack on CD now. Great product, great memories.

This movie is a masterpiece!! Barbra Streisands voice is, by far, the greatest sound I have ever heard, and her acting is just lovely in every performance. Although I think every movie Barbra is in is a gift to her fans, I think this movie showed her stretch her talents. I own the soundtrack and the film!

This CD, called an album the first time I purchased it, is for the woman who is strong enough to start her own company, run someone elses, gracefully confront those that have invalidated her, be opinionated, has respect for Mother Nature to a common sense point, sets her own standards and loves with compassion beyond words and figuratively speaking burnt her bra years ago.
I still remember seeing this movie and as a child I left the theatre with tears running down my face, I was twelve. What also amazed me is how many of the words to these songs I have remembered. There is a song to fit every mood on this CD. Need a pick me up before a tough business meeting or just facing the 2nd cup of coffee on a 16 hour day - Select "Queen Bee". If you want to remember someone that was/ is a compassionate wonderful lover go to Lost Inside of You. If you are in the mood to just go from gut wrenching grief of a lost one to absolute victory Finale: With One More Look At You. I find myself after this one still giving Ms. Streisand a standing ovation; even if I am in the car.

Would you believe I actually purchased the album, back in the day? Then I had to have it on 8-track for my VW. Only that 8-track busted within a few months, so I bought it on 8-track again. I think that one lasted a few months more. I remember writing the record company telling them they had defective 8-tracks, and they mailed me a cassette. WOW, one of my first! That cassette was played over and over again until it became unplayable. I have since bought the CD (2x), and now I am buying the MP3...how technology has improved, and I had this one from the beginning folks. So now to my review.

As someone else has stated, the movie does not hold up as well as the music. The music is superb. I tend to FF thru Kris, since his voice does nothing for me and I found him better as eye-candy than ear-candy (especially then). However, Barbra is perfect! The songwriting, melody & lyrics, are timeless. My review is biased - since this time period in my life means so much to me, along with the memories I've shared since the music/movie initially came out.

The faves that stand out for me are the ballads, "Woman in the Moon" & "Everything". Of course we cannot forget the Oscar-winning "Evergreen". But the best song on the album may be the ending "Watch Me Now", where we can feel the pain Barbra is going through as her husband has recently died and she is singing his hit. It moves me to tears on the screen, and you can hear the emotion here too.

I am buying this cd for my 6 year old son. He heard this soundtrack in the movie WALL-E and immediately fell in love with it. I had heard the soundtrack many times and have seen the movie but did not realize that Michael Crawford was in it. Can't wait to receive the cd. Patty R CT

This is an amazing soundtrack! The insert even had history on the film, as this cd celebrates the anniversary of the film release. It is a treat to listen to, and all songs are performed by the original cast of the film!!

Released in 1969, the movie Hello Dolly, while performing well at the box office, and even garnering an Oscar Nod for Best Picture, was considered a failure, often due to the miscasting of Barbra Streisand as the title character (ironically, she is the film's only saving grace). The soundtrack did not perform much better, and as of this day, still has not been certified gold.

But even so, this is a must-own album for Barbra Streisand fans. While she does not perform on all tracks, the ones she does perform on are far and away the soundtrack's best offerings. "Just Leave Everything to Me," written specifically for the movie, is a wonderful introduction, "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" is great fun, and extremely catchy, "Before the Parade Passes By," while clearly an attempt to recreate "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl, is still well done, and the title song, a duet with Louis Armstrong, is fantastic, if a bit overlong.

Unfortunately, the songs not featuring Barbra are not worth listening to at all. They are dull, not sung well, and just try to fill up space in what was probably promoted as a Barbra Streisand album. Because of that, I can only give this album three stars. Buy it for her tracks (which are 5-stars at least), but skip the rest.

At the time the film was released, and still today, many people ponder the fact that Barbra was 20 or so years too young to play the part. This may have been true, yet the fact remains that she is terrific in the part. On the whole, this is a fine film musical, true to the original. Very funny and hugely entertaining. There have been a lot more succesful film musicals that weren't nearly as well done. The CD is enjoyable, though I agree with others that much of the music has been needlessly abbreviatted. And the overture should most definetly have been included. Still BS is great, and you can hear what Michael Crawford's REAL singing voice is (not the breathy, over miked noise he now passes off).

This is a great compilation of Streisand's best. 'All I ask of you' is my favorite, and the reason I ordered. I am enjoying all of the hits on this album and will for years to come.

Many people criticize this Barbra Streisand album because it is not a Greatest Hits collection in its truest sense. True, there are many songs that shouldn't have been omitted that have been ("A Piece of Sky," "Till I Loved You," and "No More Tears" to name a few), and some songs included that shouldn't have been ("By the Way" is probably the best example). But if you take out of consideration that this is supposed to be greatest hits, the collection of songs here are fabulous.

First off, this is a better album to buy than Memories, because not only are "Memory" and "Coming In and Out of Your Life" on here, but so are two other new songs, as well as "The Main Event/Fight," previously only available on the soundtrack, as well as all the big hits from Guilty. But even so, the songs here all sound great together, and they are all some of the greatest tracks of her career, even if they weren't top ten hits on Billboard. As for the two new tracks, "We're Not Making Love Anymore," is a pretty ballad (probably cut out from her last album at the time Till I Loved You), with great vocals and a catchy score. And "Someone That I Used to Love," another possible song recorded for Till I Loved You, is not as good, but still a gentle and emotional song.

Basically, if you are looking for a greatest hits collection for her 80s period, you will be disappointed, since many of these songs weren't hits at all. But if you want a mixed bag of Barbra Streisand songs to see if you'll like her, this is perfect.

This is a good collection of some of my Streisand favorites. I already had this in cassete form and chose to replace it with a CD.

Like some who have reviewed this item, I am a long-time Streisand fan and have most of her previous work. However, I do not have the same negative feelings about this product as some other long-time fans. I understand their disappointment because I know they would like some new material. Fortunately, Barbra has recently announced that she is working with Diana Krall and we will be getting a new release soon. Thank you Barbra!

Would I have purchased this product given I have all of this material already? No, probably not. However, I am not sure that it is aimed at long-time fans. I would like to think that Barbra is continually attracting new fans and this is an excellent compilation for them. I purchased this CD because my old Essential CD had developed some scratches on it. I LOVE the additional third CD that was added to this collection and listen to it regularly. It seems that great care was taken in selecting these additional songs and they cover material taken from her previous work from over a number of years. The bonus CD contains one of the highlights from her 2006 Concert CD, the beautiful rendition of "Unusual Way". If you own the original Essential, you may not need this one, but if you don't, purchase this one and get a bonus CD with some great additional songs.

I agree with all the comments concerning re-packaging a old product. I love Streisand and of course I looked quickly to see what was contained in this 3 CD set. In my large collection of CD's I have them all. No need to go out and purchase duplicates. I will make my own MP3 of my favorites and may I suggest all of you as well. Save your money.

I like this collection of CD's because it has many of the songs I have enjoyed over the past 40 years. Yes, these have been recorded before but it is nice to hear some of the "oldies" of Streisand all together. I have many of these songs on other previous albums and CD's. Currently I don't have a turntable hooked up to my stereo system. Many of these songs I have on vinyl and not on CD's. ( I am showing my age, LOL) So I am greatful to have them on CD.

When I bought this collection I looked at the back of the CD holder and saw many of my favorites. These songs brought back many memories. I could see that they were all old songs but I knew this collection would be great to listen in my car and at home.

This is a nice collection to have for a Streisand fan.

Leave it to the legendary Babs to FINALLY get over her stage fright, let go of her perfectionism, and tour just in time to have 100's of thousands of fans in 7 countries witness the shockingly bad and deteriorated voice of the century. I saw two of the shows LIVE and have no desire to relive the disappointment on DVD. How I long for the 'old Barbra' and her perfectionaism and genius. I don't mean to be so critical of my all-time favorite vocalist and entertainer; but getting old really sux.

I purchased this 2006 two-disc concert along with Bab's other live CD, "Barbra: The Concert" (her 1994 Madison Square Garden NYC recording) this week. Both are wonderful recordings displaying Barbra's inimitable talent and artistry, but there is a noticeable difference between the two recordings.

Most will probably agree when I say her 1994 two-disc NYC set is a technically-superior set showing Barbra's voice in much better light. Her vocal trademarks -- those famous high notes and holding them for eternity -- are in full evidence. Her voice was in better shape, but this shouldn't surprise considering the long gap between the two recordings (1994 and 2006). If I were just listening to both concerts with my EARS, I would rate the 1994 a better bet. If I were listening to both releases with my HEART, the 2006 CD is superior, and it's mostly due to Barbra performing on a more EMOTIONAL level.

For once, Barbra is not afraid to show herself in a human light. On the 2006 recording, she shows noticeable strain on some high notes and her breath control betrays her several times as she tries to hold notes. For some Barbra fans who have come to expect absolute perfection from her, they may be in for a big shock listening to Barbra on the 2006 CD. But hey folks, guess what, Barbra is aging just like everyone else, so of course her voice will change. It's called LIVING !

Streisand has been criticized for being the ultimate controlling-perfectionist, so this flawed performance on the 2006 CD will come as a shock to those who are accustomed to "Perfectionist Barbra". As some reviewers have complained here on Amazon about Barbra's decision to tour at this stage in her career, I actually applaud her courage. I think it comes from finding peace with herself that she is willing to show herself in a human light, hoping her longtime fans will accept her for what she is. So I was genuinely moved by her emotion and conviction to sing--with cracks and flaws--on the 2006 set. Also, when this 2006 concert was made, she was 64 going on 65.

Sound quality on the 2006 two-disc set is also noticeably better than the 1994 NYC concert CD. Both are satisfying listening experiences, but on the 2006 CD, I detect a more spontaneous Barbra who succumbs less to scripted onstage patter and learning to go with the flow of the show. She is connecting with her audience on a more human level. Overall, I would give the 2006 concert CD set 5 stars and 4 stars to the 1994 NYC concert CD. In either case--Bravo, Barbra !!

Between that golden voice and the grandiose orchestra this CD is pure heaven. I'm addicted. I can't stop playing it. In my house, in my car and on my laptop. This work of art is the best I've ever heard. Buy it, you won't regret it.

I ordered this CD on 13thDecember - but when it didn't arrive by 3rd January I contacted Amazon who immediately sent a replacement.

Ironically. the original order arrived on 8th January(obviously delayed by Christmas mail) and the replacement order arrived three days later.

Grammy and Academy Award winning musician Barbra Streisand has done it again, but singing live is something she does best, that and choosing friends such as Hillary Clinton (in 2008, Hillary Clinton received more votes than any other Presidential Primary candidate in history)

Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 is a good CD that is just too short to be called any type of "greatest hits" album. Even when taken together with Volume 1 of Barbra Streisand's greatest hits this CD is still way too short. That disappoints me. However, what we do get is very good quality throughout; and the sound quality is excellent. I like that artwork, too!

The CD starts with the love theme from Barbra Streisand's remake of the classic movie entitled A Star Is Born. Barbra sings "Evergreen" with passion and she never sounded better. Her excellent diction and her uncanny sense of timing helps to make her singing all the better! Barbra also handles tempo and key modulations as if it were as natural as breathing. Of course, we know that it really isn't so easy to do this; Streisand had so much talent when she performed that she could make anything look easy! There's also the love theme from Eyes Of Laura Mars; Barbra sings this with great sensitivity and passion. Barbra's performance of the theme from Eyes Of Laura Mars truly is a great highlight of this album--even if the album is too short!

"My Heart Belongs To Me" stuns me with its beauty and this features Barbra squarely front and center--and that's all right by me! Barbra really opens up her ability to belt out a song as she sings "My Heart Belongs To Me;" and Streisand fans are bound to love this tune. In addition, Barbra does a wonderful job on "You Don't Bring Me Flowers;" this duet showcases Barbra's ability to handle a complicated duet with panache and sensitivity. I love it!

"The Way We Were" comes from the movie of the same name; this is perhaps my very favorite of Barbra's songs. "The Way We Were" has several sound effects that they used in the `70s but it still holds its own very well. "The Way We Were" is a classic ballad that is easily a major highlight of both this album and of Streisand's career.

"All In Love Is Fair" is a song I first heard when Stevie Wonder sang it; but Barbra's version is quite stunning. The strings are used to great advantage and Barbra belts this number out flawlessly. It's quite impressive. Listen also for Barbra on "Stoney End;" this great ballad ends the CD with a solid hit that still sounds fresh and new every time I hear it. Great!

Barbra Streisand is definitely one of the greatest female vocalists of the entire twentieth century. Her talents brought her much success and this CD proves just how wonderfully she could deliver a ballad. Unfortunately, I must take off one and ½ stars for this CD being just too short. Ouch!

If there were three female vocalists that I would cherish meeting, they would be Laura Nyro, Joan Baez, and Barbra Streisand. Laura sadly is no longer with us. That leaves Baez with the socially significant and moving songs of the 60s and 70s and Streisand with that incredible voice that can sing anything. This particular release captures the widest breath of her talent. I think it is her best album. I wonder if she would ever come to Alaska to grace us with her presence.

I have no qualms with other reviewers, but wonder just what album they were reviewing when they complain about spotty sound and strange lyrics. This CD is beautifully remastered, and the songs are top notch. The only bad part is that it does not contain the original 45 version of "The Way We Were". My original vinyl from 1978 had the 45 version, but early in the CD revolution, I gave a bunch of LPs away. I have since bought 10 copies of the vinyl in search of this version, to no avail. They must have switched the versions on subsequent pressings, and on the CD, and that is the version always offered on all of Barbra's albums now, I don't know whether it is the version from her "The Way We Were" album or from the soundtrack, but it is NOT the original 45 version, and it is easy to tell the difference. But this CD has a few tracks that aren't available on any other Barbra CD, and it's a great listen. If you want ALL of Barbra's best, you've got to have this. It's on the cheap, so why not?

There are two of my favorite Streisand songs here. One is 'The Way we were' and the other is called the theme from 'A Star is Born' but I believe is also called 'Evergreen'. Listening to them and being moved by them I try to understand why I find Streisand to be such a uniquely moving singer.
One element is certainly the way she can play with her own voice. It really is like a kind of jazz instrument which she can turn in every which way. Its quality its timbre its power and above all its piercing melodic beauty can bring chills to the spine and tears to the eyes.
What a great gift, what a tremendously beautiful singer.

This album of Barbra Streisand, Greatest Hits, Volume 2 contains ten of her well known songs from 1970-1978. For me, this was the first album of hers that I had listened to as a kid back in the late 80s. My mother had it on LP, and it was fun to hear, even though it had a BIG CRACK in it. The title starts off with her timeless classic "Evergreen", from "A Star is Born", and ends with "Stoney End", from the album of the same title from 1971. There are some other great songs on this album as well. Here is a brief summary of the rest of them:
"Prisoner", which is from the movie "Eyes of Laura Mars" with Faye Dunaway. Barbra had declined to star in the film, but did agree to sing this song for it. GH, VOL. 2 is the only album of Barbra's that this song appears on.
"My Heart Belongs To Me", which is from her "Streisand Superman" title from 1977, is a great song.
"Songbird", which is from the album of the same title of '78, is another great song with a sad sound to it.
"You Don't Bring Me Flowers", is a great one, too, with Neil Diamond. Barbra and Neil both recorded their own versions of this song and, with the help of a professional DJ, had come up with this duet by splicing together their voices, making this another well loved song.
"The Way We Were", which is from the wonderful movie of the same name from 1973, is one of Barbra's most wonderful contemporary songs. This version is from the solo album that was released in early '74, about the same time as the soundtrack album of the movie. The version on the soundtrack is very soft sounding, whereas this version has more of a contemporary sound to it.
"Sweet Inspiration/Where You Lead" is a great contemporary groove. This song was taken from her 1972 album Live Concert at the Forum. This is a fun one to hear, and Barbra sounds like she was having fun singing this song. The live concert that this song is from was done when George McGovern was running for President (Barbra did this show for him). Thousands of people came to hear the show, but sad to say, Nixon had won the re-election. But I digress; this song and the Live Concert album are a joy to listen to. Great to put a live song in a greatest hits album.
"All in Love Is Fair" is also from the studio album of her "Way We Were" record. This, too, is a great song.
"Superman", which is from her 1977 album of the same name is wonderful, and has a "comical" lyric to it.
"Stoney End", from her album of 1971, is the closing song on this album, and is more of a rock ballad. This is an album to get, whether you're just discovering Barbra's music or don't yet have this title. You will love it. Even though I gave this album a full 5 stars, my only gripe is in regards to the remastering job. Some of the songs don't sound much different, but a few others sound horrible. In this case, the instrumentation seems to overpower Barbra's voice (this is quite noticeable in "Sweet Inspiration/Where You Lead"). I gave the remastered version to my grandmother (who is also a big fan of Barbra's), and got a used copy of an original CD issue. Between the original issue and the remastered issue of this album, I like the original CD issue a lot better than the remastered issue. The original stays true to how people heard the album on LP or tape years ago. If you have the original issue of this album on CD, KEEP IT; do not fall for a remastered issue. But, for those of you who feel that a remastered issue is better for you, so be it; you be your own judge regarding the original issue and remastered issue, and tell me what you think, if you like.

This is a chritmas gift for my mum. She has not beable to find it for years, so I track it down from you guys and my Dad will now give to her on the christmas day. Thank you

Absolutely the best CD album I have ever owned!!! "Guilty", "Woman in love", and "What kind of fool" are my all-time favorites. Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb together are much better than either one of them individually. I guess it's synergy! (and that's coming from a Bee Gees fan!

I wore out the album, I wore out a couple cassettes, and this was the first CD I bought. A favorite and must have for me.
