What can I say that won't be obvious when you listen to Belinda sing? I was prompted to buy this CD right after going to the Regeneration Concert. Shes still got it, awesome vocals and high energy. Get a copy today and listen to it at home or on the road in your car. Great 80s stuff, add it to your collection!

Let me lay my cards on the table right off. I have had a crush on Belinda Carlisle for over 20 years. In my cellar is a vintage bottle of red for the day she finally pays a visit. I fancied her more during her chubby go go's days, but let's not get nostalgic.
A big thumbs down too the people at Mca for this package of so called greatest hits. They missed a few tracks which should have been included, but mostly I'm unimpressed by releasing only 13 tracks. Why not indulge the consumer with 18 or 22 tracks you bloody scabs! Oh and thanks for the "Time Life" style CD cover. You know the type artwork some idiot at a hired graphic art studio hacked together in 25 minutes. This is hardly Belinda's best photo.
Instead of padding the wallets of Mca executives visit your local library and make your own greatest hits CD from their catalog. Rest assured they will have her CD's. Libraries seem to be 2 decades behind the times when it comes to music. So a flood of 80's stuff is most probably available for your consumption.

I just recently saw Belinda Carlisle on Regeneration tour at nTelos Pavilion in Portsmouth, VA. She was great in the concert. She really got the crowd and I loved the songs. The day after the concert I ordered this cd and just like the concert the songs are great!!!! I highly recommend this cd.

I love the this Cd. I think Belinda Carlisle has a beautiful voice.
It took about a week for it to be shipped to me, and I thought that was pretty good. The price was good also. I would recommend anyone to buy off amazon at anytime.

Back in college, I listened to Aerosmith and Belinda Carlisle more than anything else. She was my nerve-soothing music that I listened to when I needed to unwind, or when I wanted to be relaxed for a test. She has a lot of great material. This CD covers maybe half of it. Get this one, and then look for a few others. My favorite is "Heaven is a Place on Earth". I first heard that on the radio as a kid, and always wondered who sang that awesome song. Now I found her. You can't go wrong with this CD. If you are first getting into her music, this is a great place to start.

Oh lighten up. You were expecting maybe Edith Piaf? The former Go-go-in-Chief gives French pop a spin and the result is just good fun.

I own all of her CD's and this one is one of the best - the French lyrics add a different, interesting effect!

Bearable as the muse for the grooviest all-girl band to ever come out of LA, she's given us one dishrag album after another in years that she's become a menacing solo `artiste'. But one doesn't need to comprehend the idiom to instantly recognize the tinny vocal styling (pure Piaf thievery), her clunky French diction (moving to Paris hasn't helped the argot) or dizzyingly ditzy arrangements (e.g. "La Vie En Rose" as Euro-gay camp disco? Mon dieu!!). I surmise this could all be a lot worse (it could be "Heaven On Earth" or "A Woman And A Man" or "Live Your Life Be Free" or, worst of all, heaven-help-us, "Runaway Horses") but rather than Château Lafite, we are left with escargot on the breath. My grade: C

I give Belinda credit for the attempt but this attempt pales when compared to Tina Arena's venture into French-language recordings. Belinda's American accent lacks any charm or exotic appeal. And her selection of French songs is pushing the envelope for francophone audiences. Even many of France's top singers dare not revisit the songs of Piaf and Ferre as their versions are revered. This recording is not for anyone who understands the French language and its musical traditions!

Disappointed that the words do not accompany the CD. Love to sing along. Enjoyed the sung English words on side two.

As I'm throwing out my old cassettes that have long ago been replaced by cds, I stumbled across this again and I love it still. There isn't a song on it that I dislike and it's the kind of cd that I can listen to over and over and not get tired of.
It's Belinda's second solo cd and to me, it's still the best of them all. It has fast funky songs on it and ballads too of course. My favourites on here are the title track Heaven Is A Place On Earth, Circle In The Sand, the boppy Fool For Love and Love Never Dies. Like I said earlier, I don't dislike any song, but these four stand out a little more to me. Belinda has a unique and stunning voice and that along with good songs really make this one of my favourite albums of all times. I love it still to this day and highly recommend it.

The best of the many solo albums recorded by the former lead singer of the Go-Gos, it's albums like this that terms like "perfect pop" were likely invented for. First released in Fall 1987 and dominant throughout much of '88, this album spawned the #1 smash "Heaven Is A Place On Earth," which was accompanied by a pretty cool video, the gorgeous "Circle In The Sand" with its beautiful guitar and synth riff at the beginning, and the un-aptly titled "I Get Weak" which is not weak at all but rather full of exuberant energy. Definitely an essential album for any serious fan of the 80s.

I'm waiting anxiously for a new 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION REMASTERED that MUST be released by Virgin Records still next year.

Belinda Carlisle was one of the foremost rock/pop songtresses of the eighties. Although her US star faded in the US in the early nineties, she continued releasing albums in England. I have purchased some of those as well, and they have been just as good as her original hits. Not quite sure why she faded in the US, but her work is still top notch.

Former Go-Go's vocalist's second solo in 1987 is truly the album made in heaven. It is also well-produced one. Title track HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH became #1 so this album has been remembered by this huge hit but album has more of great sing-along tracks. Started her music career as a punker some of the track choice is really punkish as shown in I FEEL FREE or NOBODY OWNS ME. GO-GOs styled FOOL FOR LOVE will get your feet dancing. Great songwriters adds the album grace such as Diane Warren penning I GET WEAK which became another huge hit.

Must-have album for female vocalist connoisseurs and highly recommended for Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Carly Simons
and Alanis Morissette fans.

As a progressive rock fan, any dipping into straight pop is, at best, a guilty pleasure for me. This album is simply wonderful and I often find myself cruising down some lonely stretch of Texas highway, singing along with Belinda. It helps quite a bit that Belinda Carlisle has an absolutely dreamy voice - that's right, pop singers used to be able to sing! Where this album really stands out, though, is that the songs are actually quite complex, by pop standards, and that the musicians are really allowed to shine - the violin solo on La Luna, short though it may be, is gorgeous. I would own this album for that violin solo alone ... but almost every other song on the album is just as beautifully embellished. The only song on the album I dislike is (We Want) The Same Thing - too poppish for my tastes - but I can't think of any other pop album that has so many strong tracks. If one must own a Belinda Carlisle album, this is the one!

One of the best CD's she's ever came out with. There really isn't any song thats better than the next because their all AWSOME!!! I'd say "Summer Rain" is the best in my opinion cuz i relate to it. "VISION OF YOU" i relate to also and love that song as well. This cd captures the essense of BELINDA CARLISLE!!! She is truly amazing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this cd. Dancy, exciting, upbeat, and romantic!!!!!

Belinda Carlisle has a stunning and unique voice that I love. I've got all of her solo cd's and this is one of the best of them.
There is a great mix of songs on here, from boppy to beautiful ballads. If you are the ballad type, then the best songs are Vision Of You (one of her best songs ever) and Shades of Michaelangelo. The best upbeat songs are Runaway Horses, La Luna and of course Leave A Light On. Yes I do love Summer Rain, but it's so overplayed. There isn't a bad song on the whole disc. I really wish she'd do new music - especially if it's going to be anything like this.

I put this CD player at my desk, not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised at the depth and content of the songs. It's a very good listen! It's priced reasonable folks, get a copy and enjoy it. Four stars!!

What a shame they discontinued the great CD by Belinda! Every song, including her own, is a winner. I own every Belinda CD but this one but that won't be for long and once I do get it, I will treasure it. Be great if someone picked up on the rights to these songs and released them!

From the moment I first heard Mad About You, I was a Belinda Carlisle fan for life. It is one of the quintessential songs of the 1980s, yet it still remains fresh and vibrant today. I have more memories invested in that song than any other from my teenaged years. While there is a significant amount of collaboration with Charlotte Caffey on the album as a whole, this music is distinctly superior from that of the Go-Go's. Belinda's style and sound would continue to grow and mature over time, but clearly the public connected most strongly with this and the subsequent Heaven on Earth releases. While Mad About You was a pretty big hit, the only other track to achieve any success was the catchy, feel-good song I Feel the Magic. However, there are some other real gems on this album that I think could have been big hits. Gotta Get To You is a pretty rocking song that does have an air of the Go-Go's to it, but it surpasses even the best song from the old group. I love Belinda's voice; every word she sings sounds sincere and heartfelt. Her voice also has a unique undercurrent of passion to it at times that makes her slower, sadder songs much more appealing and emotional. Without a doubt, the most powerful song on this album is Since You've Gone; mixing verses of soft regret and heartache with pumping choruses of forceful anguish, it's a song to treasure and seek comfort in. I Never Wanted a Rich Man and From the Heart are two slow, beautiful songs, but even they cannot compete with Stuff and Nonsense. Belinda had a habit of including a slow, melancholy ballad at the end of her early albums that differed significantly from the more beat-driven songs leading up to it. Stuff and Nonsense showcases the wonderful, passionate, underappreciated voice of this singer; the sound is far removed from the often meaningless lyrical stylings of the late Go-Go's period. Belinda Carlisle can sing love ballads with the very best of them.

With less than 38 minutes of music, the album may seem relatively short now, but 38 minutes was a typical running time for albums released in the mid-1980s. I cannot help picture Belinda Carlisle as she appeared in the two videos for this album whenever I listen to these tracks--blonde, beautiful, and happy. In a pretty short period of time after the breakup of the troubled Go-Go's, she had turned her life completely around, and the obvious happiness she felt comes through clearly in her singing. I think this CD captures the essence of Belinda Carlisle better than any other (although I don't consider this her best album). As one song says, "it's all from the heart," and I can say that Belinda definitely captured my own heart with this wonderful album.

This is the awesome 1986 debut solo album by the great Belinda Carlisle. Also the last on the I.R.S. record label, the label that she had been with on the GO-GO's first three albums,(1981-84). This album is short and sweet, clocking in at just under 38 minutes. The first song is the classic smash 'Mad About You', upbeat and cheerful, a personal fav of mine. She displays her great vocal range very well on that song. 'Gotta Get To You' is catchy, with a cool saxophone solo in the bridge. 'I Need A Disguise' is a cool song, with a great beat, also Susanna Hoffs from the Bangles co-wrote and sang backup on this song. 'I Feel The Magic' is just plain fun and cheerful. 'Shot In The Dark' has a cool synthesizer rhythm, and great guitar fills. There is also a great mix of slow ballads, 'Since You've Gone', 'Stuff And Nonsense'(simply angelic vocals on that song) and 'From The Heart'. This one has it all, Great musicianship, arrangements, song writing, and Belinda Carlisle with her beautiful, fantastic vocals. Complete lyrics to all songs are included in the booklet. Also, most songs were co-written by her fellow GO-GO Charlotte Caffey. This album is also hard to come by, so don't pass up a chance to buy it. It is truly a great travesty that this album is out of print now. If you don't have it, get it, ROCK ON!!

The songs on Belinda's first solo album was as good of a success as any of the Gogos albums. It hit #13 on the charts and spawned the number 3 hit 'mad about you' i recommend this cd to anyone who likes Belinda or the gogos, or especially 80's music.

Out of the ashes of the Go-Go's, came Belinda Carlisle, fresh from rehab and ready to conquer the pop music world with the opening bass beats in "Mad About You". Result? An unqualified success.

When I first saw her in the "Mad About You" video, I'd never even heard of the Go-Go's. Fortunately, I was able to catch up in time. Now there was a woman I found unimaginatively beautiful! Anyway, those opening basslines. And that's Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor doing that guitar solo in the song's middle.

The bouncy "I Need A Disguise" is another singleworthy song, co-written by Susanna Hoffs that's got a tight slick beat. "Shot In The Dark" is another song that's an even better candidate for the dance floor.

Case of singles chart injustice No. 103039: "I Feel The Magic" is another one of those singles that deserved to enter the Top Ten, much less the Top Forty. As it turns out, it didn't. This despite a familiar and welcome sugary voice on background vocals: Susanna Hoffs. Sheesh!

In watching a documentary on the making of this album, bandmate Charlotte Caffey remarked on Belinda's perceptive ability to notice song similarities. According to her, "I Never Wanted A Rich Man" sounded like something Rod Stewart would do. Yes, Belinda, it sure does.

She does a tasteful cover of Freda Payne's 60's classic, "Band Of Gold" As for ballads, she does best on "Since You've Gone" and "Stuff And Nonsense".

Belinda gets a lot of help from a lot of big names. Much of it comes in songwriting credits. Her ex-bandmates, Charlotte Caffey and Paula Brown (Jane Wiedlin's Go-Go's successor), come to the rescue here, as does Susanna Hoffs. All three help out on backing vocals as does Jane Wiedlin.

So, is this CD great? Hey, I ended up not speaking to a then-good friend because he dissed it. That was back in 1986, and this album has survived its potency with age.

Released about a year or so after the Go-Go's broke up (for the first time) Belida's eponymous album was supposed to be a collaboration with former bandmate Charlotte Caffey. Even though Caffey decided at the last minute that she didn't want this album to be released as a duo, it is very much a collaboration. The single "Mad About You" written by Go-Go Jane Wiedlin's replacement Paula Jean Brown would have made the top 10 for Carlisle and Caffey's former band. Instead it became a tribute to Carlisle's new husband Morgan Mason. Songs like "Band of Gold", "I Need a Disguise" and "I Never Wanted a Rich Man" are tributes to the girl groups of the sixties. The highlights of this album are without a doubt "Since You've Gone" a perfect torch and "Stuff and Nonsense". Both songs display not only Carlisle's growing talents and confidence, but also Caffey's return as a major songwriter and arranger.

Carlisle is no longer the powerhouse in the US that she was back in the late 80s, but she still retains a strong fan base in the rest of the world. Caffey on the other hand has remained in the background working with other bands/artists including Jewel, Hole, That Dog and Susanna Hoffs.

I Play This Album All The Way Through, No Skips. It's Just That Great, It's Something A Little Different From Belindas Earlier Work And That's Just Fine, She Was Consistent With Her Sound Long Enough It Was Time For A Change And It's Subtle, Not Drastic At All. It's Enough To Upgrade From Her Older Work. This Is A Really Good Pop CD I'm Impressed, Judging By The Cover I Thought It Was Going To Be Bland And Boring...

I simply adore Belinda Carlisle! From her days as the diva lead singer of the ever fabulous Go-Go's, to her stellar solo days. Out of all of her solo albums, her latest "Voila", which is totally outstanding, this is my personal favorite. From her Go-go's-like "Goodbye Day" thru her "Lay Down Your Arms" with Bangles diva Vicky Peterson, Belinda shines like the jewel she is. It is so sad that we have to endure countless trash like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton today, when we have true pop goddesses like Belinda, all of the Go-Go's, the Bamgles, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox, ect. who have real talent, and true voices to capture our hearts, over and over.

This album is awsome. I'm a major fan, and have never heard such a tranquil sound from Belinda. the songs were completely mesmerising. I personally recomend this album for the biggest Belinda fans.

Forgive the pun, but this CD is Belinda Carlisle at her most real, musically. Let's start with the fabulous cover and inside photos, all beautiful pictures featuring Belinda without make-up, looking very natural. I'd like to see Britney Spears or Madonna appear on their covers without makeup. Then there are the songs, of which six were co-written by Belinda. The stripped down production on this CD actually enhances her voice, which sounds great. Highlights include Goodbye Day, It's Too Real, Too Much Water, Lay Down Your Arms, and One With You, although honestly, all the songs are quite catchy. It's a shame this CD didn't catch on, it truly is one of Belinda Carlisle's most underrated efforts.

This cd was her first for Virgin records in the US. It marked a huge turning point for her musical career. No more polished pop songs, just rough edgy rock and ballads that didnt fit the norm.
The only song that got much play was Big Scary Animal but Goodbye Day should have been a single.
When I bought this i envisioned the songs that would have a video or make Belinda a superstar again.
Of course Goodbye Day, Lay Down Your Arms, One With You, and Tell Me.
These four songs stand out and would have brought Belinda to the mainstream

This album is nothing short of amazing. I rarely like a cd as a wholw but this was it for me. Every song is perfection and that is really hard to come by this day in age. I especially liked the songs, I Plead Insanity, Little Black Book, Love Revolution, and Do You Feel Like I Feel. Very Highly Recommended!

I know having written this in 2004 it seems unfair to call this the best Belinda of all, but that is just what it is. She brought a maturity and an adult feel to the songs that she lacked with her first 3 solo albums. All the songs here contain what i call the Belinda Carlisle Chorus: The backup singers that explode on the chorus of the songs. I Plead Insanity is by far the best song that Belinda has ever done. Its catchy..has the vocals..and the dance feel behind it, and I am sure if it had been released that this album would have gone MUCH farther than it did. If you like Belinda you will LOVE this album, if you can find it now.

This is an incredible album. "Do You Feel Like I Feel?" is one the best pop songs I have ever encountered. The album is wonderful. This should have been a huge hit in America and if it had received any airplay it would have charted. Other gems are "Live Your Life Be Free," "I Plead Insanity," "You Came Out of Nowhere," "Your'e Nothing Without Me."

Once again, Belinda did not get the recognition she deserved with this album. I believe MCA records was to blame for that. She obviously was not as promoted as other artists. Too bad, this album is flawless. Her voice is just spectacular. The only single released here (the US) was "Do You Feel Like I Feel?", and it was all but ignored by radio. I bought this collection strictly for the "Bonus" disc! My all time favorite song by Ms. Carlisle is "Circles in the Sand." On the bonus Cd, it's over seven minutes (and a very good mix, for once!). Don't get me wrong, the entire collection is very good. A good collection for the money. Get your copy and enjoy! Five stars...

This is a record with wonderful pop/rock songs performed by one of the most beutiful voices within the genre. Songs like Heaven is a place on earth, La Luna, Circles in the Sand and I get Weak all remind us of the glory days of the eighties and fills us with the summer feeling. High choruses, well performed music and the world class voice of the beutiful Belinda Carlisle makes this music fit for all kinds of events. The second CD also includes excellent dance versions of Heaven is a place on earth, I get weak, Circles in the sand, as well as some other hits from the first CD. Highly recommended if you like the voice of Belinda! But who doesn't?

I cannot believe ANYONE could give give this CD 4 and 5 stars WITHOUT "Mad About You". And the biggest ripoff, is you cannot get "In Our Wildest Dreams" (From Mannequin) anywhere. Those are my two favorite Belinda songs, and until they come up with a CD that has "In Our Wildest Dreams", I will stick to the single disk. Simply put this is an over priced CD.

Having followed Belinda Carlisle from her Go-Go days to solo career and back to the Go-Go's and now this album, one thing remains: Belinda has the most powerful, expressive voice of any female pop vocalist. This collection is not available in the United States so it was an awesome treat to hear a new much more upbeat pressing of (We Want) The Same thing, as well as the 3 new songs on this album. All God's Children is the happiest sounding Carlisle ever! A Prayer For Everyone is another gem...not as cheery as All God's Children but the message is the same and having been produced by the Guru's who did Believe for cher, this track too is very very worthwile. BUY THIS album!! You will NOT regret it. The Bonus CD of remixes is good the 2 B sides should have been put on to the Live Your Life Be Free album but including them on this collection is good too.

Buy this album now only because the 3 new songs are some of the best solo songs she has done! "A Prayer for Everyone" should have been released in America. It would have been a huge hit considering it was done by the same people that wrote "Believe" for Cher. It has that same disco beat that was the rage at the time. The lyrics are wonderful and it is one of Belinda's best performances on record. The message is one that we all can relate to. I wish she was as big in the US as she is in Europe! The 2nd disc of remixes is for fans only. They are really dated sounding and not that interesting. The unreleased songs are nice to have but nothing remarkable. Still I will never trade this in or throw it away! I LOVE the 3 new songs on the first disc.

There are so many Best Of Belinda Carlisle cds. There are too many to choose from because they all have great hits on them. The only song missing on here is Mad About You, which would be one of my all time favourite song of hers.
I started playing this cd over again the other week after seeing the Go Go's on Today. I do love her music and her voice. She is so talented, but for some reason, not all of her released songs became the major hits that they should have become.
On here (since Mad About You is missing) I really love a lot of the ballads like Half The World and Vision Of You but I also like the boppier songs like I Plead Insanity, Summer Rain and We Want The Same Thing. And who can overlook Heaven Is A Place On Earth (possibly her biggest solo hit).
She really is talented and I wish that after she does her stint with the Go Go's, she'll get back into the recording studios and have many more songs to create a whole new album. It seems like there are more Greatest Hits of hers than new work. Please release something new soon.

By the time Belinda started her solo career, I was fast losing my interest in contemporary pop music, so much of which just didn't interest me. Once I heard Belinda, I knew that she was one of the exceptions. Production is (by eighties standards) fairly simple, which is partly why I enjoy it. Belinda has a fine voice with a bluesy edge to it, well capable of singing ballads and up-tempo songs.

Up to the time of this compilation (1992), Belinda had sixteen British hits of which fourteen made the top fifty and all those are included. The other two (Mad about you, Love never dies) are omitted in favor of another track (I plead insanity). Of the hits, five (Heaven is a place on earth, I get weak, Circle in the sand, Leave a light on, We want the same thing) made the UK top ten, with the first-named going all the way to number one, just as it did in America. This compilation is the definitive UK hits collection, though the omission of Mad about you (a major USA hit) may disappoint some fans. It's not the only great track missing, as Belinda did a superb cover of I feel free (originally recorded by Cream), but that wasn't a UK hit either. Nevertheless, Belinda's UK and USA hits were mostly the same songs so the track selection will satisfy most people from whatever country.
