Black Label Society

Another solid BLS release. I really dug the CD, but I thought his playing on the new Fozzy All That Remains Reloaded CD was more interesting, and Jericho's vocals seemed to fit better than Zakk's. Hey, it's still Zakk, and any Zakk is gonna be awesome!

I love this CD! It's perfect for 41 year olds who have grow up listening to Ozzy, AC\DC, and Iron Maiden!

I'm not going into some long technical over analized review of how this cd kicks arse.If you like Ozzy or if you like any of BLS previous cds, buy this one. I think its the best so far, plus it kicks arse!

I enjoyed this album for the most part. Though many are comparing the simiilarities to OZZy, I thought it sounded more like Alice in Chains. The CD is a pretty good buy if you like BLS or any other band in this genre. I only wish it had a little more creativity to it.

This was the 1st BLS album I bought. It was well worth it.

All I can say about this is that is ROCKS! Zakk Wylde is a genius!

I love how it sounds like zakk wylde has a sock in his mouth when he's singing. The extensive use of harmonics is awesome too, it reminds me of the mushrooms in mario. This is hard stuff that is pure "rock" or "metal". Check out the harmonics to the intro and verse of track 3. This guy is nuts.

Simply put, the only song worthwile is STILLBORN, the rest of the album sounds like that group of idoits who play with their "band" in the garage down the road. You would call the cops, but then again you feel bad about how much they suck and decide they need to spend that time practicing.

I love this one!!!! My only complaint is that it's way too short!!! I think Zakk coulda expanded and jammed on a few of these tracks, instead of leaving most of the tracks around the 4 minute mark. But if you want a good metal CD with a haedcore edge....this is it.

Thick tone and power chords is what this CD is about.A cheap version of this CD is worth it just for the patriotic America the Beautiful. Bleed for me rocks

My God, have I been in a hole somewhere? How did I miss these guys?

1919 Eternal is a blistering, withering, furious, head-banging assault of full-bore, confident metal: I picked it up not knowing what to expect---I thought, vaguely, that BLS was some bourbon-fueled Ozzy vanity project---popped it into the hopper, and seconds later, stunned and delighted, cranked up the volume setting to DEFCON-1. Within seconds, the rafters were shaking, trees and grass turned yellow and died, and frantic, furious neighbors called the cops.

Zakk Wylde and his band of musical mercenaries (including current Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo) are solid musicians. "1919 Eternal" brews up some tasty metal: Good lyrics, crunching base, strong, mordant rhythms---not the prissy, mincing, navel-gazing "math-metal" so popular at the moment---not tiresome at all, not tediously technical, just heavy as a battleship and twice as brutal.

Good metal for me? The kind of gut-stomping, hard-core, moody, melancholic, doom-laden stuff---power metal, with a little thrash, a little Death---that puts me in the mood to don my steel-horned helmet and ram my head into the wall, then trash my apartment. That kind of stuff. *This* kind of stuff. It's that good. Why the Hell are you reading this---go buy 1919 Eternal now, and bang your head!

But that might be a little unfair to Zakk and his rebel crew, because---for every snorting, ripping warhorse like "Bleed for Me", "Battering Ram", and "Berserkers"---this is a taut, trained, disciplined band of musicians, calling to mind Iced Earth in their ability to quickly lock it down and Jesus, just *groove*, as with "Bridge to Cross" and "Lost Heaven".

Like Iced Earth, yes---but more hellbent, far more brutal, and reeking of Jack Daniels and bloodshed.

This is the kind of music the Kurgan would dig. You know, the Kurgan---the immortal bada** from the Russian Steppes in Highlander, the guy who lashed up his gaping neck-wound with safety pins and who---hell, by sheer a**-kickery alone---should have taken the Prize and McLeod's head?

Yeah. The Kurgan would rock to Zakk Wylde. He'd load up "Berserker", and then he would thrash Hell out of every living thing, and wear their faces, and laugh like a demon.

Let's paint the town Red.

Everyone knows Zakk Wylde heck he's Ozzy's right hand man and obviously an amazing guitarist, but does he have his own band? Has he ever thought about making an album (a few albums) with a band of his own? YES!!!!!! I borrowed this album from a friend a few months back and I was not dissapointed. This is an awesome album.... one of my favorites. From the intro "Bleed for Me" to the follow up "Lords of Destruction" and then "Demise of Sanity", this album goes on and on with awesome tracks by Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Soceity. I mean who coulda thought that that voice would finaly come out, but hey I'm glad it did.

Its a toss up for me so far,i cant decide weather this one or the blessed hellride is my favorite.But yeah i was at the cd store deciding between this cd and stronger than death and for some reason i chose this one but wasnt for 100 percent sure why.Well i got it home and now i have listened to this cd about 10-15 times so far,heres my short reviews of the songs:



Bleed For Me- 10/10 Killer track!

Lords Of Destruction- 9/10 This was one of the first songs i heard from bls and would have gave it a 10 but i heard it a good bit

Demise Of Sanity- 10/10 Very catchy song

Life, Birth, Blood, Doom- 10/10 One of my favorites on the cd

Bridge To Cross- 10/10 Slower song but still good,anyone who says zakk can't sing they need to listen to this song and then tell me he can't sing.

Battering Ram- 10/10 Another catchy chorus yet awesom song

Speedball- 10/10 Guitar solo thats a really short track

Graveyard Disciples- 10/10 Another killer song!

Genocide Junkies- 9/10 Good song,just dont appeal to me as much

Lost Heaven- 10/10 My favorite next to L,B,B,D.Slower song,Zakks awesom singing voice

Refuse To Bow Down- 8/10 Good song,but kinda gets old after a while

Mass Murder Machine- 8/10 Same comment as the song above it

Berserkers- 9/10 One of my favorite drinking songs

America The Beautiful- 9/10 I hate to give this song a lower rating because this cd is dedicated to Zakks dad (it says it in the booklet) but yeah not into insturmentals as much.

A good effort from Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Society boys! It is perhaps a bit redundant at points, but there are song definite strong points that make it an album worth hearing.

I was surprised to find that Black Label Society was so....diverse.If you love music , then this is a good choice for an array for your tastes.

Excellent album. By far BLS's hardest though still very well written and not lacking those sweet soft tunes Zakk surprises us with. HIGHLY recommend to all metal fans. A Black Label Society collection would not be complete without this album.

a must for any bls fan,zakks albums get better with every release & this is a few years old now,not as slick as the new mafia cd but still an awesome rocking disc,stand outs would have to be the middle few tracks,superterrorizer,cuonterfeit god & the title track,if you like good raw heavy rock or just love loud guitars then buy this.

This album can be summed up in a few words - it kicks absolute arse - there are some insanse solo's as you would expect from Zakk, but the riffs are literally heavy as hell. This is definitley Zakk's/BLS's most "metal" offering and has all the trademarks along with something a bit more special. Literally, the songs are stronger than death. The strength comes out in every second of every song, so if you agree with SDMF or just simply dig music that is heavy, you need to get this album.

All Zakk releases are cool...but the vocals are always an aquired taste.....same thing here, just not alot of variety....BUT to find a real gem, check out that Fozzy CD people are talking about, All That Remains Reloaded....Zakk plays on it and sounds amazing with Chris Jericho on vocals!

This cd is great you can actually listen to the cd without trying to sit so close to ur speaker trying to figure out what they are actually saying. Black label society hasn't gone soft This cd is good best part it isn't like every other heavy metal cd where they scream all the time aka hatebreed

After the crappy Mafia, things continue to get worse for BLS. After 15 strait listens this album is only barley listionable. Some of the ballads are ok, but that seems to be all this album has. I dont know what the hell happened to ZAKK after 1919 Eternal, but since then the band just went down hill.

I was a bit skeptical on buying this album due to the rewiews it was given on Amazon. I bought Mafia because I really liked Fire It Up, while not expecting too much. I loved Ozzy era Zakk Wylde, so I figured I would get it so I could enjoy some healthy guitar playing. I was surprised at the quality metal that Zakk was laying down and Mafia got me interested in BLS. The next album on the list was this album but even though I wanted to get it, I was hesitant because of the beat down it was recieving by these reviewers. I think that the album is great, and I think the first 5 or 6 tracks on the album made the money I spent worth it. If you are a fan of BLS I recommend getting this album. So far any investment I have made in BLS has come up worth it and this album was no let down.

Great cd, just like anything Zack does! All his music is good! There are more ballads than usual but they're all good!

Slower than almost everything else they have done, but the songs are much more melodic and the most of the songs are much better written

I see some people are complaining that isn't a metal album.....well it says right in the title.."Hangover Music." When your head is throbbing from a long night of Crown & Tequilla, the last thing you're gonna want to listen to is some hard n' heavy riffs. This is a pretty laid back album, has a southernish blues/country feel to it at times. Something to put it when you're tryin to kick back & relax. Pick this 1 up

Mr. Wylde has produced a simple, beautiful, understated album that reveals his true talent. I came across this one by mistake, and it was my first Zakk purchase! Well, it really set me up for becoming a fan. This album, even after hearing his work with BLS and Ozzy, is still my fave. As a rock fan and a burgeoning rock guitarist, this album is awesome. Granted, it is for the mellow times. But you MUST hear the beautiful, soulful guitar work on Won't Find it There and the devastatingly accurate flamenco-inspired 40 second song Takillya (Estyabon). This man is a fabulous guitarist, and on this album he shows his true colors, his blue moods, with the amps turned down.

I read a Guitar One magazine interview when this was released that Mr.Wylde wanted the listener to know how he feels when the show is over, what's goin' on in his head on the bus in the morning, something the listener could relate to in a soulful way. Well, mr. Wylde, you nailed it. This album, from beginning to end (including a moving cover of Whiter Shade of Pale), is a beautiful composition to enjoy on a nice drive, with a cup of coffee in the morning, or especially late at night when everyone's asleep and you need to find yourself alone and mellow. Enjoy this masterpiece. Personally, I still can't believe it's the same guy that produced those searing shredding heavy metal tones with Ozzy and on albums like Sonic Brew and Alcohol Fueled Brewtality (live!). Good work, Mr. Wylde. This one will keep you coming back.

Very hard cd to find. took time to get it but it got here in the time i was told it would get here. Item was in decent shape.

Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde named this mostly unplugged album "Hangover Music" because it's an album which makes for a very easy listen. And if you have a hangover, you're probably not going to want to listen to any other kind of music. Imagine 2003's "The Blessed Hellride" being your night of drinking, and this album is an easy-to-swallow Aspirin.

There are a few crunchy riffs here and there, and a guitar solo also flares up in most of these songs, but for the most part, this is a completely new side of Mr. Wylde. The docile acoustic guitar strums, occasional dabbling in piano, and Zakk's deep, almost flinty crooning and passable singing voice make these songs very laid back, harmless, somewhat pretty, and even a bit bluesy at times. The lyrics aren't very harsh, either. Zakk omits words like "Crawl through the things that eat your flesh" in favor of inoffensive lines, which at times (e.g. "Woman, don't you cry") are downright sweet-hearted (aww, I know)!

"Hangover Music, Vol. 6" opens with "Crazy Or High." Aside from a surprisingly fast and wild guitar solo in the middle, this is a very relaxed song, with a slowly thumping drum beat. "Queen Of Sorrow" features a couple of semi-heavy licks, a beeping bass line, and another careening solo. "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" is one of the prettier songs on here, and has a piano, proper singing, guitar feedback, and a grumbling bass. "Takillya (Estyabon)," which has light, nimble-fingered guitar noodling, is equally as beautiful, though it's just an interlude. "She Deserves A Free Ride (Val's Song)," is very melancholy, and almost country music-esque; "Damage Is Done" includes ambient piano keys and a catchy sing-along chorus; "Layne" is a sweet, touching tribute to the late Alice In Chains singer who had a big influence on Zakk; "Woman Don't Cry" is a tender love song (yeah, you read that right!) And lastly, the cool thirteenth track, "Whiter Shade Of Pale," stands as the album's only piano driven ballad.

"Hangover Music, Vol. 6" isn't as mesmerizing as, say, Opeth's "Damnation," (because Zakk's voice isn't as great as Mikael Akerfeldt's), but it is still a darn good album! Highly recommended listen if you're a fan of Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society, if you like gentle, easy listening music, or if you spent last night on a binge.

This is my second copy of Kings of Damnation... one for the house and one for the car!

For whatever reason, a lot of people seem to hate this particular compilation. People are either upset over the song selection or the fact that the record company stuck a couple of exclusive tracks on here to entice the fans who already own the BLS albums.

I have to say though, as someone new to Black Label Society (but long familiar with Zakk Wylde's work), Kings of Damnation makes an excellent introduction to this hard charging rock band. I may sing a different tune once I have some of the band's studio albums, but I can't see any reason to complain about a collection that serves up a career-spanning 19 tracks.

Musically, what more needs to be said about Black Label Society? This band plays the kind of no-nonsense straightforward hard ROCK (caps intentional) that precious few bands play these days. BLS bridges the gap between classic bands like Motorhead and Corrosion of Conformity and the new breed of real ROCK bands like Brand New Sin and Bullets and Octane. It's loud, heavy, and alcohol fueled.

I can see how this one might irritate older BLS fans, but for me it was the perfect way to discover this killer ROCK band.

yes this is a "hits" package. is it Zakk's(BLS)best? not really. is there a little in it for the novice s.d.m.f.'ers? definitely. as one of my fellow reviewers writes, "it's impossible to put the best on 1 cd", or something to that effect. from a fan's perspective, owning the entire catalog, including Book of Shadows and Pride & Glory, is the only real way to get the full effect of this musical genius' best, and the BLS package as well. but barring that, this will have to do. i purchased this simply to have the 2 new tunes and to say "i have every BLS cd". if what you crave is a "taste of Zakk" then get this offering. if you want the full course, then buy 'em all. peace.

I understand how many pople who already own the BLS CDs and Book of Shaddows (tracks 3-4) and Pride and Glory (tracks 1-2) might be dissapointed, but holy cow. If you already own all of the albums then why are you buying this? I mean... there are the two new tracks but don't complain because you think it is better to buy all the albums instead. I think Zakk did a good job choosing songs, you can't put EVERY good song they did on one compilation (If Led Zeppelin did that then every song off of their first 4 albums would be part of the 7-disc Best Of that they would have). If you are interested in hearing Zakk's work then I highly recommend buying this to hear all the kind of music he has done throughout the years. If you are only interested in heavy stuff he has done though then I would highly recommend picking up Sonic Brew, it is a great album. This album made me see how hard and not hard Zakk can rock. His acoustic work is AMAZING! I bought Books of Shadows after I bought this CD and it is also a great piece of work. Zakk's distortion on the hard songs is crazy, he really keeps his guitar overdriven, and I love it. This is a great first look into BLS. BLS is almost like southern metal to me. Also: Zakk's guitar solos are extremely shreddy (fast as hell). Anyway, I was very happy with this CD and it was a good introduction to a great band. If you own all the albums then just let the CD go (unless you REALLY want the 2 new tracks, which are very good i must say). If you like this then i highly recommend buying some of their other albums.

Black Label Society supposedly put on a killer live show, so any attempt to capture that experience is well intentioned. And there's no question that they sound heavy on this, their sole live album, with Zakk Wylde pouring out a lot of energy both through his guitar and in his vocals. But I'm not sure this is the success it could have been, with some better production. It's good stuff, to be sure, but not quite as good as I want it to be (though I do enjoy his take on Ozzy's "No More Tears").

The second disc is a completely different story. Beginning with covers of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" and Black Sabbath's "Snowblind," this is a somewhat unexpected offering from Zakk & Co., but his renditions are strong and well thought out. The somewhat bluesy, piano driven "Like a Bird" is a well written song, that really demonstrates Zakk's songwriting chops. "Blood on the Wall" is strong, as well, though not so much as the song immediately prior, and as they're a bit similar the comparison is obvious.

Very poor production. Vocals are poor compared to studio recordings.

Bonus new studio tracks were great though.

zakk is definately under the top 3 guitarists of today. every song, every solo, is incredible. i hope we see more BLS albums in the future.

Concidering how many concerts BLS has out on CD (ONE) this is a very good buy. Yes there are some Sabbath remakes, but they're pretty decent. Concidering its Zakk's killer guitar methods replacing Tony Iommi's. Zakks AWESOME use of something us guitarists call "pinch Harmonics or Wylde Harmonics" is great and plenty of. since Zakk Wylde made them so famous and to qoute Zakk from one of the live songs. on track six. "Limp Bizket SUCKS D*CK!"

BLS are a great live group, but you wouldn't know it listening to this record. The mix is so poorly done that all of the power of the music is lost. Zakk's guitar is mixed dead center, while the second guitist is buried in the backround. The drums also have no punch.

BLS's excellent live DVD (Boozed Bruised and Broken-Boned) solved this problem by using the AC/DC guitar mix of having each guitarist hard mixed to the right and left channel with well recorded drums. I would buy that DVD before this CD if you want to see the real power of a BLS live show.
