Bleeding Through

It seems as if 90% of all metal bands these days are releasing albums that only rate sub-par. That is certainly not the case with Declaration. This is by far my most favorable album that Bleeding Through has released yet. The vocals are as loud and clean as ever. Everything about this is just brutal. From start to finish, it fits their style exactly and hold true to their old-school hardcore/death metal mixture of styles. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good 2008 metal album.

Bleeding Through's "Declaration" reminds me more of "This is love..." than "the Truth". It's fast and brutal through and through, and really doesn't let up. The fact that it DOESN'T let up is the downside of this album to me. In my opinion, there isn't a song that really stands out or that is immediately memorable and there is not much clean singing (the clean singing, to me, is not a sign of selling out by any means....it adds diversity and helps to add to the catchiness of a chorus). Regardless, Brandan has an excellent hard core style voice as well as a searing black metal screech, and uses those well to express his emotions. The music is tight and very good, and as usual for Bleeding Through, it ranges from hard core power chord riffing to black/death metal style tremelo picking. The drums are fast and busy and make me sweat just listening to them. Production wise, Declaration is fairly crisp and clear (maybe the overall gain could have been turned down slightly for a clarity). All and all, it's a great sonic lesson in brutaily and well be in my CD rotation for a while (especially during my work outs!)....cheers.

I first started listening to Bleeding Through when Portrait of a Goddess came, to me they were pretty good... overall just kind of a mediocre band. Kind of a "been there, done that" type of routine. Then This is Love, This is Murderous came out and I was blown away. The sheer power, madness, and brutality in not only the music but Brandon's voice as well. The only problem I have ever had though were the lyrics themselves, not that they were bad or anything, but more so they should have been with a screamo band. When The Truth came out I was thoroughly disappointed, it didn't have that ferocity that This is Love... had.

But now Bleeding Through has outdone themselves. The Declaration is what Cradle of Filth has been trying to do since Midian (make a great Symphonic Black Metal album). Seriously I was f*&king shocked when I first listened to it, to the point that I couldn't believe it was Bleeding Through. Now I absolutely love Symphonic Black Metal, and this CD fits almost every element that could be compared to your more mainstream SBM bands, like Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir(well maybe not so much Dimmu, but you get the drift). Of course some elements of the older style are in there, like the heartbreak lyrics (that's only reason it's a 4 star to me, black metal without black metal lyrics). All in all get this CD if you want beautiful brutality, or if you really like Winds of Plague's Decimate the Weak (also a very amazing CD).

upon listening to "the truth", I was almost positive that Bleeding Through would have gotten even softer. After all, that is the route that most metal bands go.(i.e. in flames, soilwork, poison the well, 18 visions, ect.) So imagine the look on my face after listening to "Declaration" all the way through. This is deffinately not the softer direction I had anticipated. This is the raw pure hatred and energy and darkness that I would expect from Dimmu Borgir. Brandon's vocals are primed to perfection throughout the whole album. As far as the soft and clean singing goes, there are only 3 tracks where he does that, and thankfully, those parts are in all of the appropriate places. However, the most deserving of gratitude goes to Marta, she really raised the bar on this one, especially on the final track,"Sister Charlitan". A keybord solo?, who could ask for more? On a side note, I was also pleased to find out that "Declaration" was produced by my hero Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad, but that really has nothing to to do with it. After listening to the whole album 5 times, I have decided that I've finally found a Bleeding Through album that I like more than "Portrait of a Goddess". BEST BLEEDING THROUGH ALBUM EVER!!!!!!

"This is Love, This is Murderous" lifted Bleeding Through out of murky underground obscurity, and though it was a little uneven and rough around the edges, it was powerful, sincere, and unique. "The Truth" saw them heading down a slightly softer, more accessible road, though they still retained a seething bite. I was worried that they would tone it down even more with "Declaration," following in the footsteps of All That Remains, In Flames, etc. I was wrong- in fact they went in the complete opposite direction and churned out a scorching masterpiece that makes their previous efforts look like mere sound checks.

Remember how surprised you were with Soulfly's "Dark Ages?" Everyone was saying "Boy, Max is really mad." With "Declaration," every song boils with hatred and fury. Of course, they were always angry- they're a metal band. But the venom flying off this album isn't the mournful "b*&%& you broke my heart" hate, it's way beyond that. With that said, it translates into an album that will doubtless alienate many fans of their earlier work, but I see this as the natural evolution of their sound. They always had a creepy, semi-goth vibe to their thrash/hardcore heaviness, and it's full throttle here. I would dissect this album as 30% hardcore, 30% death metal/thrash, and 40% black metal. There are grim staccato riffs and blastbeats a-plenty, accompanied by terrifying shrieks and bellows. Imagine if "Waking the Fallen" era Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, and Emperor had a drunken orgy. Actually don't imagine that, but throw these bands into a meat grinder, turn it up to 11 and you've got "Declaration."

I applaud them for fleeing the well-trod road of commercial accessibility and making an album that will shock and awe their audience with it's fury, power, and bleakness. There are still a few melodic moments and the breakdowns are in abundance, so it's still unquestionably Bleeding Through, but they've pulled a Barry Bonds and chugged the steriods en masse and become a terrifying metal behemoth. In a year of monster releases (Slipknot, Metallica, Soulfly, Opeth, etc.), "Declaration" stands out as the most pleasant and blistering surprise of the year. Twenty seconds into the second song (the first is an ethereal intro), your jaw will be on the floor, I promise.

It doesn't matter what anyone says this band is awesome brutal brutal stuff.If your looking for something heavy get this is just AWESOME,BRUTAL,HEAVY,FAST,JUST GET IT!THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY THIS BAND MAKES LOVE IN A BRUTAL WAY.

Are you kidding me, this isn't progressing this is the exact opposite. Yeah its progressing if like like your hardcore all fluffy. This album has it good moments but over all it is a let down from their previous albums. I really like this band though and I hope their next release gets alot more heavy. If you can find it check out Bleeding Through first album Dust To Ashes, now that's brutal.

Bleeding through just straight up sucks, they sound like every other metalcore bands that swears they sound different, thesinger is horrible. i mean all he does is complain and whin through out the whole cd. just suck it up. doesnt he have enough balls to come up with something better and quit bytching? anywayz i dont recommend this so called "metal" cd, more like emo. but i do recommend some children of bodom, trivium, or kreator. now thats talent.

To begin, I truly do not care for how the frontman for the band, Brandon, claims that this cd is a middle finger to the metalcore genre and the subculture full of posers or whatever. This cd is not anything special and does blend in with the typical metalcore bands. I like Bleeding Through a lot, they have a good sound and put on a great live show, but I can admit that it is nothing groundbreaking. The songs are all pretty heavy and can get you pumped up, but a lot of the riffs sound the same and I have a hard time distinguishing between songs. This cd is pretty good, but not enough to be considered great (4-5 stars). The one thing that I like least about this cd is Brandon's clean vocals. Everyone exclaims that his clean vocals are "amazing!" or "beautiful!" when they really are absolutely awful. You can tell that they were overly produced to sound even decent. He is really not a good singer, but still has a pretty tough growl, which is a strong point for the band. Again, this is nothing special but still has some cool breakdowns.

I'm too lazy to type. This just deserves more than the average 4 stars it has.

I don't know why many of you give bad reviews to this album the band is brutal,dark,heavy,and just awesome so forget you this band is great.When i think of hardcore i usually think of gay fake metal bands like hatebreed,terror,and all the bands like them who wear stupid silly clothes with those annoying hats who think they are pretty "hardcore",so bleeding through's sound is brutal metalcore with death metal,even though they say they are just a hardcore band but the sound has it's death metal.Get a look at this band.Hard pounding drums with brutal screams and the dark keyboard sounds is just a band to listen to,so check it out.

Bleeding Through are a metalcore band hailing from Orange County, CA. They represent the raw, brutal energy that rivals any other hardcore band on the scene today. While yes, most of the songs on this album sorta mesh together, and if you arent "keeping track", you wont even realize that one song has ended or begun. Either way, technicalities like this seem only bothersome to critics and usually are avoided by people just wanting to rock out. The lead singer, Brandan Schieppati, puts his heart into every word bellowing from his throat; he truly sounds like a masked maniac on the mic. Although most of the album is sung in harcore growling, he compliments some songs with a clean singing voice, but dont fret, only in some instances does he switch his vocals, either way, it's done well. Shredding guitars and pounding drums make the album what it is, hardcore, and loud. Marta Peterson handles keyboards and brings a melodic gloominess to the songs she's featured in. Clocking in at 45 minutes, the album will be over before you know it, but i'll be damned if it doesnt make you want to raise your Dio horns and bang your head. peace.

If you grew up in this generation, one of two things probably come to mind when you hear the phrase "Orange County, California":: a) any number of punk and/or screamo bands, or b) that excruciatingly sappy (and now canceled) drama on the Fox Network ("The O.C."). Well, Bleeding Through are from Orange County, but they are neither a punk/screamo band or a group of melodramatic, honey-faced teenagers. They are an intense and hungry young metalcore outfit with loads of potential.

Bleeding Through's third album (and first on a major label, Trustkill Records), 2003's "This Is Love...This Is Murderous," is a bit more unique than typical, faceless metalcore releases, because it incorporates several other genres and influences into the mix. Brandan Schieppati delivers his furious vocals (in the form of growls, barks, and bellows) over a seemingly endless stream of pulverizing breakdowns, blistering Swedish death metal riffs, weighty rhythms, admirably technical drumming (i.e. walloping, grindcore-worthy blast beats), atmospheric, black metal-worthy keyboard accents (ala Dimmu Borgir), and even an occasional ripping guitar solo. The final sound is typically quite catchy, and always very lean, mean, punishing, and satisfying.

Listeners looking for pummeling hardcore beat-downs should definitely give "This Is Love..." a listen, because there are a ton of them to be heard here. And if they aren't your cup of tea, but you enjoy aggressive, brutal, abrasive music with raw-sounding production and a very powerful and visceral impact, you could do a lot worse than this album. After a brief intro ("Lost Love In A Hale Of Gunfire"), the pounding "Sweet Vampirous" is the official set opener, and it pretty much sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the songs, with its dense, churning riffs, bruising rhythm, throaty yells intertwined with clean singing, impeccable (albeit fairly brief) solo, and mellow ending. But then the band storm back with "Number Seven With A Bullet," a sneak attack (it's just over a minute long) backed by dense guitars and forceful death metal blasts that greet the listener like a steel-toed kick to the skull. Then, after the menacingly ambient and highly symphonic "On Wings Of Lead", the bludgeoning "What I Bleed Without You" knocks you flat on your back. Later, Brandon goes absolutely nuts on the microphone while bellowing out the lyrics to tracks like the title tune and "City Of The Condemned" (plus, the latter also features a surprising hardcore shout-along ending: "No regrets!");"Murder By Numbers" boasts scorching guitar interplay, wicked shrieks, slamming drums, and a couple of tasty solos; "Dead Like Me" is another onslaught with extra chunky riffing and a hard, driving rhythm; and "Revenge I Seek," which is probably the record's hookiest song, falls into a lurching, head-bobbing groove.

Monotony sets in after a while, leaving "This Is Love, This Is Murderous" as a good, if not entirely memorable album that shows Bleeding Through had plenty of room for growth (which they would achieve on their 2006 effort, "The Truth"). But it's still a very enjoyable listen, and it makes for competent headbanging sessions. Plus, it may lose out to a few other bands for the best metal/hardcore record of 2003 (see Lamb of God's "As The Palaces Burn," Chimaira 's "Impossibility of Reason," and Hatebreed 's "The Rise of Brutality"), but all in all, it is a pretty close call.

This Is Love, This Is Murderous is, in my opinion, Bleeding Through's best effort to date. It has the best sound, the best lyrics, and best vocals. When I heard this album for the first time about a year or so ago, I couldnt wait for their next. Then when "The Truth" did come out, I was somewhat disappointed. They took a turn in the more generic Metalcore direction. Its more commercial. Sure, its still a decent album, but just not as good as this one. This album doesnt have that. Neither to their other first two.

Now, this album is not a masterpiece by any means. What this album does lack is the keyboard sounds. Which are a strong point on "The Truth". I mean, if you have a keyboardist, then use her! Some songs lack inspiration. They just sound the same...I dont know why bands would do that. Its like an over use of the Death Metal blast beat, except with groove guitar riffs being over used. What I do like about this album are the vocals most especially. Branden is a great vocalist, and he really can LEAD the band along. If you want to hear how Metalcore should be played then buy this album. Its a Metalcore classic.

So I really don't listen to this music too much because nothing is valuable to me on this CD. Bands like this are often awesome live, and then you buy this CD, and then you find yourself listening to a few songs off it for a while, and then it phases.

On listen alone, I can't understand the vocalist half the time enough to care what the message is. The musicianship (as with most metalcore albums) is interesting, but molds itself in with other bands. I like the level that they take events to, but I can't see the full picture on words alone.

My guess is that bands like this create songs in their garage for about three months, record them before they forget them, go play shows with this new material and maybe a few of their more memorable ones, and then start all over, burning the bridge and calling it a success. I can't understand that train of thought without some kind of care put into the vocals, and real musicians get interested in new sounds and ways of creating songs, not at all what they seemed to do with this release.

So go see 'em in concert (they probably are a lot of fun to see), but leave the $10 at home if they try peddling this CD.

The Complete Truth is something that every Bleeding Through fan would appreciate. Although the band themselves interpreted this album as a cheap way to pay some bills, this CD includes some very good never before heard bonus tracks and some cool live footage. The booklet artwork is insane and very cool. I recommend this to any bleeding through fan. The only thing I didn't care for was the cover art.

Portrait Of The Goddess is your factory made metalcore album. Nothing truly original or mind blowing, just heavy as hell metal. Low tuned, fast riffing guitars, one note bass, keyboard interludes, blast beats, and a lot of screams. Basically the formula for a basic metalcore album...or Portrait Of A Goddess.

That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the album. It is good, no make that great at what it is. It is a solid album with no weak points what so ever. But because of the lack of originality giving it a five star rating would be a little bit of a stretch. So while not a metal classic, Portrait Of The Goddess is a solid album worthy of any metal collection.

i first got into bleeding through after i heard lost in a hail of gunfire. after hearing the song i went out and got this is love, this is murerderous and thought they killed it! but after listening to the record it all started to sound the same with a few tracks that really stood out to me, i was really reluctant to pick up portrait but when i did i fell in love with this band again! this album is way better than this is love, i just can't stop listening to it. but this group has a lot of promise and they seem to only keep getting better because the truth kills everything! i can't decide which is better though the truth or portrait. the truth musically is brutal but i could have done with out all the clean vocals and the only slow track that's on it, but the keyboards and drums kill! anyways, promising band.

this is a good CD..i personally like "This is Love, This is Murderous" better...ive listened to this CD alot...and i still find new things about it...M. Shadows from A7X appears in #5 of this CD...overall great buy, if you like "This is Love, This is Murderous" then you'll like this..

One of the best metalcore albums ive heard. Really heavy chugging guitars, harsh screamed vocals mixed with an occasional clean part, and fast aggressive drumming.

The ringout at the end of the Saviour Saint Salvation instrumental gives me a huge [...]

Im pretty much sick of the whole overplayed metalcore genre but this album i still always come back to. Its not particularly innovative or unique (some may argue its generic), but the songs are well written, and relatively catchy, and the breakdowns will make you destroy.

This band is blowing up at the moment and its good to see them still playing cuts of this album when they play live as this is much better then This is Love...

Recommended if you like moshy chugging metalcore

First off i would like to say that bleeding through kicks ass. second off to the idiots that hated bleeding through the singer brandon was also the gutiarest for eighteen vsions and for throwdown. Now on to the albim its self, excellent hardcore for the most part, insane vocals backed up by griddy guitars and probaly the best drummer i have heard in awhile. I say everyone should buy this and maybe some that already own it should take a second a listen and get off the crazy death metal trip cause this hardcore.

This band can and has done no wrong. Every release from this band is like death metal gold. This is almost reminiscant to the raw efforts of bands like Darkest Hour, Burnt by the Sun and even The Haunted. It's a untapped, raw, and an unrelentless beating on the senses, much like every Bleeding Through release. This hard to find release put their name on the roster of good ole death metal coming out of O.C. The savagery of Cannibal Corpse and the occasional melodies of In Flames mixed with the intensity of early Immortal (battles in the north) this music hits you like a shovel to the teeth. Very seldom does someone stumble across a band as good as Bleeding Through. "Just Another Pretty Face" and "Lay on the Train Tracks" are stand out tracks for me with unmatchable aggression. Long Live Bleeding Through!
