Had been looking for this for ever. Had it on cassette years ago and lost it. Love It!

this cd is very good. it covers his whole career from the beginning, to almost present day. its very good, for considering greatest hits, it has good song selection. because he has so many good songs, its just one greatest hits.

Bob Seger's Greatest Hits enjoyed listening to this CD brought back memory's recommended five out of five .

CD arrived on time and is in great shape. It's a joy to play.

Originally I went through all the struggles attempting to purchase this CD from the eBay website. Even after all my efforts, I still did not end up with the CD in hand. Ordering it from Amazon proved to be a snap!! I also was certain that the CD would be in perfect condition upon receipt. Wish I had just ordered it from Amazon in the first place.

Some great songs (Her Strut/Rock & Roll Never Forgets) some lame fillers. Seger's stuff is not on iTunes, so not being able to buy individual songs forces you to buy whole CD's-a strategy that maximizes Bob's net worth-not yours.

Audio quality wasn't up to par with modern CDs. I bought this for a couple of songs but I'm not a big Seger fan overall. I think these songs are best remembered and not purchased. If you must, buy a single from iTunes or something similar and save $10.

Most greatest hits CD's are terrible. This one is outstanding and shows Seeger at his best.

Ah, Bob, Bob, Bob, you do it so well.

Rock-and-roll troubadour of the male soul, there is nobody quite like Bob Seger for a night at home after some manly task has been accomplished.

How, then, to sum up the man's gift? Bob Seger's reportoire is one of the purest exemplars of basic, raw rock-and-roll that one can hope to hear. There's nothing fancy. Basic bass patterns, predicatable but competent drumming, the characteristic Seger-esque female background vocals, and Seger himself practically swallowing the microphone. It's classic, and oh how it works!

The two poles of Seger's work are exemplified by the hilariously raucous 'Katmandu', followed immediately by the sensitive and balladic 'Shame on the Moon'. The latter is worth quoting:

In the hands of a lesser rock-and-roll artist, this tune would sound maudlin, even grotesque. Seger tunes it just right, so much so that even a listener damagingly intoxicated by the crude reductions of men that are too common must surely sense the genuine portrait of the masculine soul that Seger's brush gives us here.

Other high points on this compilation include the bluesy 'Hardest Thing I'll Ever Do' followed by the driving, up-tempo comin'-to-get-you 'Shakedown'. Seger was made for this tune, which served as the theme song for the motion picture Beverly Hills Cop. Yet, for this reviewer, it is Seger's balladesque moments that stand out. Like Eros Ramazotti and other scratchy-voiced male soloists, Seger goes down exceptionally well in duet with an expressive female voice. This anthology's luscious paring of our man with Martin McBride on 'Chances Are' is a parade example.

There are sixteen tracks on this rather thick 'best of' album. It's rich fare. Don't miss Seger's first and principle "Greatest Hits' album, but when you've finished with that one, Greatest Hits 2 will keep the this thing he's got goin', well, goin'.

Saw Bob Seger in Feb 07 and he did a few songs from this album, so I bought it the next day. Not quite as great as the first Best Hits album but it is needed for a more complete collection. I like the song 'Understanding' and never heard it before.

If you are a Bob Seger fan, then you must own this album. It is probably one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. Many say he and the band sound better live than on any studio recording. Great cd, great songs, its hard to beat.

Most live albums are weak. Failing to capture the perfect studio sound or failing to capture the fire that is a live performance. Live Bullet is not one of these.

At the time when Bob recorded this he had been around for a long time. He was a legend in Detroit, but almost unknown elsewhere. This was recorded in front of a Detroit audience that knew and loved him. Bob gives a career defining performance in this album. It is raw, passionate, and powerful. His rendition of "Beautiful Loser" captures the longing of a seasoned performer giving everything he has in one last effort to reach the top. This is quite simply, one of the best live albums ever recorded, by anyone. If you like hard edged Stones-like blues this is a very fine example of it.

My title pretty much sums it up. This is one of the best live recordings of the 70's. If you want hard charging, adrenalin pumping rock and roll in front of a live audience, get this disc.

Best live album ever recorded. This is the album that opened my eyes and made a huge impact on my music choices for life. This album originally introduced Seger to the world. It captured the sheer energy that the Silver Bullet Band was known for. If I was stranded and had one album to have and to hold, this would be the one. Songs such as the Beautiful Loser/Travelin Man medley with Nutbush City Limits brought Seger out of the doldrums of his Beautiful Loser album and these versions just rip it. The loneliness of the wailing sax in Turn the Page is worth the entire price of the album. It truly captures the old time rock with the promoter urging the crowd which one never hears any more. This should be in everybody's rock library.

If this CD only contained "Nutbush City Limits", "Get Out of Denver", and "Katmandu", it would be worth the price! This is essential Bob Seger.

Growing up in the Midwest, one state south of Seger's own, I was blessed to come of age and then enter adulthood during his best period as a rocker. I was 13 when NIGHT MOVES came out, 15 for STRANGER IN TOWN, 17 for AGAINST THE WIND, a high school graduate for NINE TONIGHT and a college student for THE DISTANCE.

I could reach back for LIVE BULLET and "Ramblin Gamblin Man" and there would be later flashes of greatness with "Like a Rock" (all those truck commercials couldn't kill that song for me) and "Wreck This Heart" from his latest album but I was in the perfect era to experience his music during his best years.

THE DISTANCE will always be the last great album to me. Maybe it was because of where I was and how far off the road I went that I couldn't appreciate his later stuff (I wondered why he was singing about Cuban refugees in "Miami" off of 1986's LIKE A ROCK)...but he nailed the Midwestern experience for us while we were living it in the 70's and early 80's.

You know how many of the rock bands from the 70's had trouble finding an appropriate sound once the 80's rolled around? You know, a sound that can make the band maintain their level of enjoyment while updating the sound of the 80's and still being *good*? Bob Seger apparently didn't have any problem with the change, as many of the songs contain that same feeling of enjoyment that the previous Seger albums from the 70's did. I really like the ballad "Comin' Home" a LOT. It sounds so honest and meaningful, and Bob's vocals elevate the melody to new heights. The album also has some good rockers too. A comeback album worth owning.

A fine album from Bob and the boys, which I bought for Makin Thunderbirds, a fine bit of rock and roll and the rest of the album is fine too. Another item for Seger fans.

No Bob Seger fan should do without this album and "Its A Mystery" The man never makes bad music. Its timeless. We need more of his style of music.

I've bought the vinyl LP version of this album, because someone had recommended it to me.
I'm not a Bob Seger's fan, but I found the music of this album much too simple, "déjà vu", and pretty boring for me who is usually into progressive rock.
I nevertheless gave 3 stars, because I might not be very objective to judge this sort of music, and I don't want to make Bob's fans too angry.
Simply put, I could not believe my eyes when seeing this record had an average rating of more than 4 stars, so wanted to correct a little bit this.

Had to replace my Night Moves CD. This one is one of Bob's best ever. Night Moves, Mainstreet, Come to Poppa, Ship of Fools are some of my favorites. Good Stuff.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM BUT I ONLY WANTED ONE SONG. I'M GLAD YOU NOW HAVE MP3 DOWNLOADS. THERE WERE NO SINGLE DOWNLOADS FOR THIS ALBUM.

A stunningly strong album from Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, Night Moves is a non-stop rock n' roll party.

Opener "Rock and Roll Never Forgets," is a true rock anthem and one that, with Seger now over 60 years of age, rings as true as ever, as is "The Fire Down Below," which comes in as one of my two or three favorite Seger songs.

Title track "Night Moves" demonstrates Seger's amazing songwriting skills, as does "Sunburst," which really helps to fill out an album.

"Sunspot Baby" is really a treat...a stripped down rock song that's irresistibly fun, as is the bands version of "Come to Poppa."

A great album, from a rock legend and great American story-teller!

While the best song on the album is the title track (and what an amazing, beautiful song it is), as an album it is only good. Definitely not a masterpiece, but very listenable.

Wow, what a great album! What is special about this collection is that it is more about "the Silver Bullet Band" than it is Bob Seger. And while I love Seger, his band never got the credit it deserved. While everyone loves "night moves" (and rightfully so), you really get an appreciation for the Band on songs like "sunspot baby" where the band is wailing and Seger is telling another great story! Every song has something special to offer. While "come to poppa" might not be that popular on the charts, if you focus on the percussions (drummer), you'll want to play it over and over again. Every song is a bit different, some are soft flowing ballads, like you hear on "mainstreet" and "ship of fools", while others like "sunspot baby" and "sunburst" feature the fun upbeat style of the Silver Bullet Band. If you enjoy Seger and his folk-rock style you will absolutely love this album. KC.

I had this album as a cassette for years and played it in my old car all the time. Got a new car last year and Oh,no! couldn't play the cassette. Ordered the CD, it came almost immediately, and even better - was in perfect condition. Not a single scratch or flaw. Am well on the way to wearing it out, too! When I do, I would go right back to this seller for future purchases. Excellent seller to deal with!

I only moved to CA USA 5 years ago from the UK and I dont remember hearing much of Bob Seger in the UK at all and am so dissapointed I did not find his music quicker but thanks to our local Rock radio Station 104.3 The Hippo i have made up for lost time a wonderful album

this order was to replace a cd i had lost. i love this cd!!! the price was very satisfactory and i received it quite quickly.

This is a nice album from Bob Seger, I bought it mostly for the Horizontal Bop, a nicely crafted song and a great bit of rock and roll. The rest of the album is well done too. Bob and the boys are in fine form. Worth buying for any Seger fan.

If you had to choose a single voice of blue-collar American rock & roll, you might well settle on Bob Seger's as that iconic sound. AGAINST THE WIND could be Exhibit A as you face down the Springsteens and the Pettys and the Mellencamps make your case.

There are several tracks on this album in which Seger hits his stride and holds it long enough to sound as though he'd have to be invented if he were not available to sing in just this way. 'You'll Accomp'ny Me' is the first of them.

Along with the album's eponymous 'Against the Wind', 'Accomp'ny' is arguably Seger's most well-known tune, but it is not the only one that establishes a subset of his styles as the one that he's come to be known by. 'No Man's Land' is its twin.

Seger fans slot intuitively into a certain, ineffable Seger-esque groove when the SBB gets into its balladic rhythm, setting the table and the stage for Seger to do his best, abbreviated, enigmatic story-telling. Just listen to the Silver Bullet amble up to speed on 'No Man's Land' and you'll know what I mean. Like the best poetry, which tells us enough of its story to allow us to catch hold to one of its horns and merge our own tale with the poet's words, Seger is at his best when he talks to us about the tip of the iceberg. We fill in the rest.

Don't get me wrong. Seger also rocks in formulaic in-your-face mode as well and his music is beloved by fans of that style ('The Horizontal Bop', 'Her Strut'; Long Twin SIlver Line' [good grief, the man can sing a half-interesting song about a *train*; what next, a semi-blues, testosterone piece about, say, his desk lamp?], 'Betty Lou'). But we're talking icons here, and Seger the balladeer is Seger the icon. The rest is some very fine window dressing.

AGAINST THE WIND belongs up there on the list of signature albums as well, an observation I'll make as long as I'm in ranking and list-makin' mode. Seger cemented something with this album. It was already there, but this cd plants the flag and says, 'I'm Bob Seger and these are my Silver Bullet boys. 'You got a problem with that?'

Nobody does, of course. The music is too good for makin' trouble.

This man is the best pure r&b rock artist ever. he could sing the yellow pages and make it sound good.

Any Bob Segar fan who was of age when this ablums was originally released should be able to remember it with a great fondness.

This album features one of the GREATEST and prettiest songs Seger ever wrote- "Till it Shines". THAT is a fantastic song! In fact, this is one pretty solid album overall, with only the atrocious "Old Time Rock and Roll" doing a nice job irritating the heck out of me. Seger sure had some brilliant songs, and I'm really happy this is yet another solid album. Yes, it was one of his most popular albums, but you can't argue with the quality of the songwriting and Seger's excellent voice. "Feel Like a Number" is another song worth hearing for its excellent vocals and rocking vibe, not to mention featuring lyrics I can relate to.

I had ordered a used copy from another buyer through amazon. I got the order confirmation and waited. I finally received a refund notice in my email with no explanation...nothing. So I ordered another one through Amazon. Got it within a week. Fast. Thanks.

Is there anything better than the version of "Old Time Rock & Roll" done by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band? Not for my money, there isn't.

And 1978's Stranger in Town is full of great rockin' tracks like that. "Hollywood Nights" is a true rock n' roll classic, and "Feels Like a Number" and "Ain't Got No Money" have that same bluesy rockin' vibe that infuses this album with a good amount of old fashioned rock n' roll fun.

This is balanced by Seger's great ability to pen a more thoughtful, softer rock tune, as he does in "Still the Same," "We've Got Tonite," and "The Famous Final Scene."

It all adds up to a great, classic album. Not Seger's best, but still very strong and thoroughly enjoyable.

I am in the minority thinking that this was a better live LP than "live bullet" Captures Bob as he was!!! Please re-master!!!

Nine tonight is so good it should be on DVD.It gives the raw power of an authentic band playing real live instruments with no fancy gimmicks,just plain simple,honest RnR,with a band who is at it's peak.Just listen to all the classics,played with fire and feeling.I've seen Bob and the Silver B band just once (livin' in Europe)and it was great.This album is a reminder of how it was.

This cd had all the songs I wanted, plus a couple that I did not know.

My favorite Bob Seger album. I actually wore out the original albums(yes, there were two vinyl albums back then)! I just bought the (one) CD, and I still think it's great!

The dominant view appears to be that Live Bullet is the better album. I don't agree. I've had both since they first came out and have always preferred Nine Tonight. It has a better selection of songs and is performed with at least equal passion. This is in my opinion the Bob Seger album to own if you were only to get one. Its a better choice than the best ofs and while I agree that editing Let It Rock was stupid and unneccessary the album survives and thrives. The only thing better was perhaps to have been there and as I live in Australia that was never an option.

I am a big Bob Seger fan. I already have 4 of his cds. Face The Promise, Against The Wind, Strager In Town and Night Moves. The only other studio albums i could find is Smokin OP'S and Beatiful Loser. I was so glad when Amazon rereleased The Distance, Like A Rock and The Fire Inside. I ordered these albums immeditely.

This one is Ok. It is known most for its title cut, and non of the other songs made it to the greatest hits album. But its still a decent album. I have always enjoyed bob's voice. The silver bullet band has always been great also.

I was listen to a classic rock station and I heard a Seger song I haven't heard for so long. I looked through my collection and it wasn't on any greatest hits CD and I didn't have the CD. It was easy to search on Amazon. I realized that there were a few songs I missed hearing from this CD. So I bought it at a great price, shipped right away, and Im a happy Seger fan.

When IRS had destroyed everything I worked all my life for, and driven from me all I cared about, I fought with myself lest I let the monster I was fighting make of me a monster. One night, in the Arizona desert on a WalkMan radio, I heard "like a Rock." It made all the difference.

LIKE A ROCK is yet another great Bob Seger album. The title song is a rewrite of Seger's 1976 classic "Night Moves", but there's lots of great stuff here. The opener, "American Storm", is a pointed commentary on the tendency in this country towards self-indulgent behavior; the song inspired me to look at pictures of any number of pretty actresses as a deterrent against certain vices that I share an inclination towards with not only most Americans, but people in general. However, there are numerous other great songs here, so I can't specifically mention any in particular. The fact that Seger, like so many other 70s rockers, believes that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD/cassette an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

Bob Seger's 'Fire Inside' is a characteristically conservative yet touching display of midlife musical resolve. Seger was thirty-one when he realized his rock dream with Live Bullet, from 1976, and never forgot the frustrations of the struggle. So after the commercial harvest of the subsequent Night Moves, he refined a formula that balanced the abandon of the roadhouse rocker with the control of a singer-songwriter and became that rare pontificator who could encore with a convincing Chuck Berry number.

The supporting cast of The Fire Inside mixes L.A. session aces with Bruce Hornsby, members of John Mellencamp's Indiana crew and Seger's own Silver Bullet Band. Seger followed his usual habit by recording some of the album with the soulful Barry Beckett at the board - much of the rest was recorded by Don Was - and the disc would be understood as bullishly American even if it didn't have the Statue of Liberty on the cover. Seger's nationalistic impulses, however, truly flower when he touches upon blues and country.

Seger covers his established styles with "Take a Chance" (floor-pounding rock), "The Fire Inside" (end-of-the-innocence ruminations) and "The Real Love" (earnestly romantic ballads). "The Real Love" is particularly fine, with Seger's sandy voice framed by Mike Campbell's layered guitars and a battery of background singers. "Sightseeing" evokes the rural rock of Mellencamp - and underscores the nature of artistic influences with a lyric about gaining inspiration from looking at great art.

That's why it makes perfect sense that the album's poetic heat comes from two songs by another artist: Tom Waits, one very idiosyncratic singer-songwriter. Seger presents "New Coat of Paint" as a ripe, sexy blues, with his blustery invitation ("We'll laugh at that old bloodshot moon/In that burgundy sky") lubricated by Bill Payne's rippling piano. The other Waits-penned track, "Blind Love," is tethered to the dulcet country whine of Richard Greene's violin.

"Blind Love" should have ended the album. Instead, Seger, as if to touch one last base, cranks out "She Can't Do Anything Wrong," a jailbait rocker by other writers. Two decades ago, Seger might've been forgiven for writing this song; now, sung as a cover by a middle-aged man, he sounds like a dad trying too hard to please the kids.

"She Can't Do Anything Wrong" does not befit the man who wrote "Rock and Roll Never Forgets." Seger shows he hasn't forgotten by growling through the guitars that drone on "Real at the Time" and stomp through "The Mountain." He also remembers plenty on a superb country ballad, "The Long Way Home," in which a beautiful loser shows how, when it comes to rock & roll, soul transcends style.

Though the guitars dont always shine through in this song like the good ol seger tunes the piano and vocals instead take center stage. And they do it wonderfully i might add. Has any body noticed the little piano riff on the song "the fire inside" sounds like the theme of the 1812 Overture, just in a different rhythm? I thought that was interesting...

I have always been a Bob Seger fan, but this is probably his best work. It has awesome sound to it, and if you have never bought a basic Bob Seger album, this would be a good place to start. It also includes some of Seger's biggest hits such as "Fire Inside" and "New coat of Paint". You won't be sorry if you buy this.

Some rockartists doesn`t know their roots. Bob Seger is one of the few among the socalled "modern" artist`s`who does. The opener Take a Chance isn`t realy up there in 5 stars heaven. The theme is to much repeated, and have to little variation, but you don`t have to wait long. Track 2 The Real Love kicks your`e soul in gear, (it`s also produced by Gear Publishing Co but that`s a coincidence ?), Track 3 Sightseeing Is root`s rock and roll, but nothing more sorry to
say. Track 4 Real at the time I't s much in the same style, and not a realy "earopener" when it come`s to creative listning experience. Track 5 Always In My Heart is a ballad, and it`s ok. Very simple, not to creative to listen too. It`s good too take a slow dance too, but would not lift you up with star`s in your`e eyes. Aaaah.But at last The title track Track 6 The Fire Inside. Bob Seger at his best, saved by a good melody, and Roy Bittan, (from Springsteen Estreet band with a pianoplaying which realy hit`s the mark). This is it, to make it short. Everything fit`s in a way. A melody that will lift your`e soul. Track 7 New Coat of Paint is Bob Seger singing Tom Wait`s, and has some flair, style, and a walkalong melody. Track 8 Which Way, is a good blues song, which has much weight in the melody and a good whole. Track 9 The Mouintain has Eagles member Joe Walsh on Lead guitar, that save this one. Puerly standard rock and roll. Track 10 The Long Way Home is a great ballad. Simple, but strong on lyricks which tells us much about life:- Some lose their way. They all want so much to succeed. How do you tell them apart. The best of them lead with their heart. Bob Seger The Long Way Home. This is great poetry, and something to think about for each of us.
Track 11 Blind Love is more in the "country style" and ok.
Track 12 She can`t do anything wrong, is good ol rocker in the style of his earlier hit`s like: Old Time Rock and Roll.
Some great tracks, some not, Bob Seger is anway a good traditional rock and roller who know`s his craftstrade. 3 1/2 star, nearly 4. A good buy anyway, if you can get hold of it.

With THE FIRE INSIDE, Bob Seger carries on the good fight for traditional rock & roll values into the 90s. The opener, "Take A Chance", like "American Storm" on LIKE A ROCK, has cautionary lines such as "you take a chance when you trust somebody, when you look 'em in the eye" and "you take a chance when you judge somebody, when you really got no proof", lines which, like the lyrics on the 1986 song, have reminded me that I should look at pictures of any number of pretty actresses, as an deterrent against getting involved in dangerous situations. Other songs reveal a sense of comfort for the first time in Seger's career. The fact that Seger, like most other 70s rockers believes that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD/cassette an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
