Chris LeDoux

I was disappointed in the fact that I already had 3 of the CD's. I feel it was unclear in the description what all the CD's were. I thought it would be a "collection" on 6 CD's, instead it was 6 separate CD's that had already been released.

Is is Truly one understimated artist. When I think of cowboys, I think of Mr. Ledoux.

I have his CD, greatest 20 hits. But, clearly that would not do justice to the man. buying this box set was a great way to give me a better understanding of his music. and what he means to Cowboys, Rodeo, country music, and his influence on artists like Garth Brooks.

We miss you Chris, and may you rest in peace sir.

i never wrote a review before but i had to for this cd i think it is great i followed chris' career off and on and was sad to here he died. this cd is for old friends of chris and new comers i think it is worth 5 stars others say ameican cowboy well i have to get that one but i think this is great

This comprehensive collection had every song I could imagine you would want from Chris.

why do 2 box sets that overlap each other? this set has (atleast) 10 cuts you can find on the American Cowboy set, now yes, there are the other good cuts that are on here (the Stampede cd, for example, is awesome). But in my mind, if you want his best stuff,just get AC since it gives a better (and more rounded) view of his carreer

I'm going to spoil the party. But first I want to make clear my bona fides: Chris is my favorite singer of all time, I have all his CDs, I've loved his music for more than 25 years, and I was a member of his fan club for a long time (till the founder died). BUT... I am so tired of Capitol/Liberty reissuing Chris compilations (this one, best of, box sets, live, early years, rock 'n' roll collection, etc.). And a year and a half after Chris' untimely passing, it still hasn't ended ("Anthology" and "Ultimate Collection"). Enough! As much as I love Chris LeDoux, where does this CD come from? Greatest hits? As great as he was, he had NO hits! This is just shameless commercialism, although at least Chris' widow and kids benefit.

The best of a legend but in one package. Chris Ledoux left us way to early. This should have been his first of many greatest hits.

This cd has them all. All the best songs from Chris are on this cd. This cd stays in my cd player, it can never be removed, replaced or exchanged. Thanks for the ride, Cowboy

If you haven't already, please disregard the 1st online review - the person who wrote it is actually giving CAPITOL RECORDS a 2-star rating, NOT Chris Ledoux. Granted, these songs have all been released previously (which is obvious if you read the list of songs included in the compilation), but obviously Chris won't be releasing any new songs, since he's deceased.

Naturally, we in Wyoming are extremely proud of our down-home boy, so I might sound biased. I also have copies of every tape & CD ever released, but this is still a great gift for anyone who loves C/W, rockabilly, rodeo, lighthearted songs about being a cowboy, or great ballads. You won't find anything better in the above music categories.

These are all great songs, but Capitol should be ashamed to release yet another Chris LeDoux compilation. Where is some unreleased material?

As I've stated on other LeDoux reviews, Chris is my favorite singer, I have all his CDs, I've been a fan for more than 25 years, and I was a longtime member of his fan club (until the founder passed away). I LOVE Chris LeDoux's music, and I consider him a hero of sorts.

But since 1994 (12 years, obviously), Capitol has issued 10 Chris compilations of one kind or another: Best of (1994), American Cowboy box set (1994), Rodeo Rock 'n' Roll Collection (1995), Live (1997)--a great CD, Greatest Hits (1999), Cowboy (2000)--a great CD, but remakes of old songs, Capitol Collection box set (2002), 20 Originals (2004), Anthology Volume 1 (2005), and now Ultimate Collection (2006). Enough!

More than a year and a half has passed since Chris' untimely and unfortunate death in March of 2005. Why can't Capitol issue some unreleased material? Yes, the first box set has two unreleased songs and Anthology has one. But Chris started recording albums almost 30 years ago, and surely somewhere--if not from his independent days (when he made his best records) then from his Capitol/Liberty days--there must be a cache of unreleased material. Why can't Capitol give us something new? Why does the label keep recycling Chris' already released (and great) songs?

It is past time for Capitol to truly honor Chris LeDoux and burnish his wonderful legacy by giving his fans some unreleased material. PLEASE!!

The world lost Chris too soon but his spirit and talent lives on in his music. If you are a country music fan this collection is a must have.

In my opinion, this is the best box set ever made. I say this because Chris LeDoux is my #1 and always will be. I own every one of his 36 releases and I am waiting patiently for the release due out in Aug. 2005 titled "Anthology Vol.1" I can only hope there will be more volumes to follow.

I discovered Chris LeDoux when I was living in Montana. There's something about him and his music that really touched my heart -- authenticity, honesty, and an integrity I've never found with another artist. His music is definitely western -- rodeo, cowboys, horses, campfires, and love for the rancher's daughter. I don't think Chris ever recorded a cheatin' song. I can listen to his music and be transported to Montana and Wyoming, those big skies. I cried when I heard of his passing -- I don't think I've ever cried for an artist. Anyway, this box set is a good sampling. Enjoy.

this is one box set you wouldnt want to miss out on. you will want it if you like chris ledoux. i love chris' songs cause he always sang from his heart, and what he lived- he sang about. he was also a rodeo star in his early days. ridin barebacks broncs and bulls, i sure do miss chris ledoux he has been gone a few months so sadly i know us fans hope they will release some of his unreleased stuff in the years to come. that way we can keep his songs with us and fresh. long live chris ledoux a true legend and a true cowboy.

"Much Too Young" to leave us, Chris LeDoux lives on through his music and this collection is both a treasure to his fans and a reminder of why we'll miss him. Rest in peace, Chris. Heaven indeed has one hell of a band now.

I have had most of these songs in recordings by singers such as Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Cisco Houston, Michael Martin Murphy, Ed McCurdy, Eddie Arnold, Peter LaFarge, etc. over the decades. The songs, mostly, are already old, so they never sound dated. They are the kinds of ballads you can enjoy hearing three times in a row, if you like this sort of thing at all. Chris did a wonderful job on this release, and probably never sounded better than he did here. I never was a big fan of his in life, just a casual one, but he filled a niche in the country/folk genre that was important to me. He is missed.

I got this album years ago on cassette and quickally fell in love with it. This has some great cowboy classics. Chris LeDoux may not be the most popular country singer, but he is my favorite singer of all time! I Grew up listening to Chris LeDoux and this is album is teh shining star of my collection.

Who else to sing great classic western songs than Chris LeDoux. This is some of his best work of all time, not to mention the Best renditions of these classics. Can't beat it.

You just can't go wrong with this one. Nothing beats his earlier stuff and this is one of the best!

These are the songs that I hear when I remember Chris. These are the songs he was singing when he was selling 8-track tapes out of his car at the rodeos where he competed. I had the pleasure of competing against him at several rodeos in the mid-70's and he was always a cowboy's cowboy. It's great to hear this music again.

Chris has been gone now for a year and a half, and I sure miss him. I've been listening to his music for over 25 years and never get tired of playing his CDs. This one is one of his best ever. "Photo Finish" and "Re-Ride" will make you smile, and "The Passenger" is one eerie, haunting song. When the passenger says, "My, ain't it hot tonight," you know something bad is coming.

This cd will make you laugh out loud and maybe think. The recounting of a humorous twist to a story in "Photo Finish" or the less than pleasant habit to most described in "Copenhagen." "Old Red" tells the tale of the grim risk in rodeo. The entire collection is awesome start to finish...if you wonder who Chris was this cd will answer some of that (and if you listen to his cds start to finish you'll have a pretty good idea!) Worth ordering for sure!!

excellent CD - one of 6 origignals recorded by his dad, Al LeDoux. Highly recommended...

This was Chris' first CD after his close brush with death and his second-to-last CD. Unfortunately, after the storm came a worse event, Chris' untimely death in March 2005. As a LeDoux fan of more than 25 years, I was a bit disheartened that Chris wasn't writing more of his own material; too many of his preceding CDs got away from his rodeo/Western songs. Nevertheless, there are some fine songs here, and except for "Haywire" and "Stampede," there's no such thing as a less-than-good Chris LeDoux album. "Cowboy Up" and "Scatter My Ashes" are the best songs on the CD. Little did we know how prescient the latter was, as sadly, Chris didn't have much time left with us. Chris LeDoux was the best.

Come on Chris, i know this is your "comeback" album but where's the cowboy stuff that made you who you are????

"After the Storm" makes a good country album but in the history of Chris Ledoux albums [isn't his best]. It not because he didnt write the songs he just didnt seem to be ready after the health problems. Compare this album to his earlier titles of "Whacha going to do with a cowboy", "Western Underground", and "Powder River" and you will agree its not his best work to date. I hope he's still got that Chris Ledoux Kick.

Well, after a couple CDs of re-done stuff, Chris LeDoux has come out with some great new music. (Don't get me wrong, I liked the updates on "Cowboy".) Initially I was a little dismayed that Chris didn't write most of the tunes, but hey, does it really matter? Nope. He does such a great job with his renditions that the writer part just doesn't matter. About half of the tunes clicked at first listen, and the rest didn't take much longer. Anyone who appreciates LeDoux or just good western music would do well to check out this collection. The first song, "Some Things Never Change", a collaboration with Garth Brooks, hooks you from the start. One of my favorites is "Scatter the Ashes" about a rodeo cowboy facing the end of his active career. Yes, the songs in general are a slower pace compared to most of his previous stuff. But one can feel a maturity that perhaps has grown from his experiences of the last couple of years. His voice also has a more "mature" sound to it, but it's still strong, and pure Chris. As another reviewer suggested, this CD may not get much air play unfortunately, but it's high quality all the way. Buy this CD, and you won't be sorry for sure. Chris LeDoux is still the genuine article.

LeDoux's music is filled with the mature sense of self that's missing from the work of fresh-faced Nashville strivers. It's a perspective honed from a life of experience, and left unperturbed by the necessities of modern chart stardom. On this latest release, LeDoux's introspective sensibility has been magnified by a health crisis and subsequent successful liver transplant. The resulting mood reflects a deepened sense of contentment with family, friends, work and play.

From the opening Garth Brooks duet, "Some Things Never Change," to the closing remake of the rodeo-themed "Bareback Jack," LeDoux contemplates the simple things that make up one's life; romance ("Millionaire" "What I'm Up Against"), hard work ("Cowboy Up" "Simple as Dirt"), and music making ("Don't it Make You Want to Dance") provide a few of his daily joys. Even David Lee Murphy's funereal "Scatter the Ashes" finds peace in the final departure from a well-lived life.

LeDoux's happiness and comfort is infectious, enough so to credit the backing singers on one track as "everybody in the studio." His tone may be less rowdy than on earlier albums (though the western swing of "I Don't Want to Mention Any Names" has a sly bounce), but his words are no less powerful. Like a favorite pair of Wrangler's, LeDoux's music gains character each time he rides out of the chute.

My brother bought several of Chris' early albums on 8-track tape directly from Chris in Fort Worth back in the 70s. We wore them out because we played them constantly. The stories contained in the simple songs paired with his wonderful voice - simply outstanding. Chris just didn't sing country music - he lived it. RIP, Chris.

its great that they are bringing back some of the good stuff. Rusty spurs and born to follow rodeo really can give people who dont know about rodeo an idea about what the life is like. God Bless Chris Ledoux.

If you are into the "Western Thang", get this record. It will mesmerize you. You won't keep your eyes dry.

It's hard to believe that a year and a half have passed since Chris died. He is my favorite singer; I've loved his music for more than 25 years, I was a longtime member of his fan club, and I have all his CDs. "Horsepower" is fantastic, marking a full-blown return to his singing about rodeo and the West. A few of his later CDs veered away from his unique strengths and had too many lame love songs that any pseudo-country singer could put out (I have to believe these songs were recorded at the insistence of record company honchos). All the songs are great, and the sad "Buffalo Grass" seems prescient, almost as if Chris knew his time on earth was almost up (as he probably did, given his serious health problems). I will always miss Chris LeDoux.

This is Chris LeDoux's farewell albym. A good mix of ballads and upbeat rock. I have bought friends this CD.

This album covers some new ground with a peppy Cajun number complete with squeezebox and French words to go with the English ones. Chris holds true to form and has some rip roaring toe tappers that are hard to sit still for. The first video from Horsepower is on his website. All Wound Up is my favorite on this album. It's hard to get out of your head. Like a book you can't put down. Songs for every age. Good clean fun. In the words of American Bandstand: Horsepower the Album has a good beat and is easy to dance to.

This is definetely Chris' best album to date. What a pleasure it is to hear him sing his rodeo and cowboy songs again. I highly recommend it!
