This is a great play. The songs are original and fun. Great beat to all the music makes you want to play it all the time. Country rock? Rockabilly? Not sure. But this is good stuff. A must for any record collection.

There needs to be more music like THIS at dance clubs and honky-tonks. Southern Culture on the Skids is some classic country-rockabilly with a modern edge. The music may sound like it could be duplicated on your back porch, but it is also very contemporary and fresh and witty and worth at least a head-nod or some toe-tap, evne if you're dead. I prefer a real country strut with my honey on my arm during this whole album, maybe a little Presley imitation thrown in now and then (and I'm talking old school King, when he could still do some hardcore pelvis shots and sway his knees about). I'm a fan of isolated tracks on other albums (40 Miles to Vegas is just impossible to keep your foot on the floor to), but this one keeps me jiggling the whole way through.

I first heard from this album when a local radio show would play "Camel Walk" almost to death, but still every time I'd crank up the volume and rock along. The song is astoundingly swinging and funny and a little bit scary--S & M involving oatmeal snack pies? To this day, if something catches me by surprise, I'll call out, "Little Debbie, Little Debbie! I'ma comin' on home, baby!" This song is a little more methodical than tracks like "Nitty Gritty" and "Greenback Fly," which just makes you want to be Johnny Depp in _Cry Baby_ all over again. And songs like "Galley Slave" and "Skullbucket" will bring you back to those great instrumentals like "Pipeline" and "Jack the Ripper."

It is hard to avoid making comparisons with the Reverend Horton Heat when talking about Southern Culture, mainly because they both run the same fine line between making fun of rockabilly while also deeply praising it. If psychobilly is the new moniker for modern rockabilly, then let this band sit on the throne with the Rev and hold sway over all that is good and true and makes you rock your bones just one more time.

All the songs on this album are good, definently worth buying.My husband and I have enjoyed everything we've heard from this band.

The first I heard of this group was, naturally, on the radio. The song "Soul City" (which none of the other "reviewers" mentioned)was occasionally being played on the radio, I believe, around the time Happy Gilmore came out. Coincidence? Not too many songs I hear on the radio DRIVE me to go ASAP to the store to get. I can't describe it's noise, but it affected me the same way Home Fries did. The movie? I was surprised of no soundtrack. I had to rent the movie to find Reverend Horton Heat's name. Then I had the unexpected ephiphany that maybe I was addicted to this strange, but not new genre, Rockabilly.

I own every SCOTS CD they've put out. These guys are the
real deal Psychobillies. No poseurs, when they sing about fried
chicken, they're reallly singing about fried chicken. When was the last time you heard a CD that was just plain fun to
listen to?

This particular CD has been out for quite a while, but it's
worth tracking down. An excellent place to begin for those
unfamiliar with them. Best listened to with a bucket of
Col. Sanders, NASCAR on the TV, a bottle of supermarket scotch
on the TV tray and all your neighbors at the trailer park makin' that old doublewide rock...

This is a compilation of songs that most of us who grew up during the 80s heard at some point during the decade. The question of whether or not to get this CD depends entirely on your opinion of the band when they were making records. If you had cassettes or vinyl from this band you are going to find tracks you enjoyed. If you are doing research on music from the 80s this is also a nice sampler of this particular band. Fans of Boy George old and new will want this because this is where he got his start. I grew up in the 80s and had a cassette or two of Culture Club and would get vinyl of them from the library. I may have to go hunting for CDs of the individual cassettes I had but this is a good overview of what the group accomplish when it was still performing.

I Loved Culture Club as a Child of 13 yrs old and this is the Best Cd by them!!

An excellent overview of one of the '80's best, most creative bands. Sure, the later material pales in comparison to their earlier hey-day, but if you want an exhaustive collection of Culture Club, you can't go wrong with this!

One thing i must say to the haters, is that Culture Club music was fun 80's music at its best. Some serious, some was just plain dance music. This cd in particular i must say was well done in selection as well as quality. A definite must buy for any culture club fan!

Yes, I will admit every song on this collection is wonderful. As a matter of fact, most likely the best music that ever existed in the world. However, it is again the commercial stuff, and no one will really understand Culture Club. All the hits from the first greatest hits LP is included, This Time-The Four Years-- 12 Worldwide Hits, which included the classic "Black Money". However, this is what the list should have been to company a real US and UK collection together:

Yes, notice how I have skipped some of the US only singles like "I'll Tumble 4 Ya" "Miss Me Blind" and "Mistake #3". Well, those songs are not bad. However, they make the group look very bubblicious, when the UK singles, like I'm Afraid of Me, Medal Song, and God Thank You Woman are professional, and are a step above those US only singles. Notice how the only US only single here in my list is "Gusto Blusto". It is the ultimate dance rocker, with George's voice being dazzling, as well as being produced by the power team of Arif Mardin and Lew Hahn. "Heaven's Children" is also included, which was going to be the group's last single released in 1986, until it was cancelled from the poor sales of "Gusto Blusto" in the US. Not only is "I Just Wanna Be Loved" included, is is the best version of it from the UK Greatest Moments album. "Strange Voodoo" is included, which was also introduced as the last song George sang at the 1998 Culture Club reunion concert on VH-1, which premiered on his birthday. And yes, it was my birthday and all ultimate Culture Club fans birthday on that day too, Sunday, June 14. "That's The Way", is also included, which proved that George and Helen Terry were the ultimate soul singers ever to live. "Unfortunate Thing" is Boy George's biography to help children remember to stay in school. Whether you believe it our not, George was one of the most important figures to the world at that time, and he still is, if at least his record company in America didn't hate him as well as other jerks. Smart people know George Alan O'Dowd was and still is the best singer in the world, as well as Culture Club being the best group in the world. To talk about Christianity, Boy George is more Christian than any singer I loved since I was five years old in 1984. I love you and all smart people do as well, George. Thanks.

I just listened to this CD for the first time the other day and I really liked it because it's very funny and entertaining. Is this really what kids listened to 20 years ago? My favorite song is "I'll Tumble 4 Ya." It's such a great song. I also like "The Crying Game," that's the only song I can remember because this has been on MTV (when MTV still stood for music-TV.) That Boy George is a cute kid, but he really shouldn't wear so much mascara. Or people will start to talk. You know how tongues like to wag.

For those who like pop music and can put their old-fashion expectations of what a man should be aside, this is a must-have cd. I wish I had purchased it sooner!

This was a gift for my wife, who was a Culture Club fan in the 80s. If you want a good cross-section of the C.C. hits, this is the one.

There wasn't much of the original culture club stuff. the old culture club cd's would have been better. I never listened to it again after the 1st time!

Of the stalwart popsters heralding the second British invasion, Culture Club definitely opened eyes due to openly gay lead singer Boy George, formerly Bow Wow Wow's Lieutenant Lush, whose gender-bending makeup made him better looking feminine. CC's brand of music was infectiously fun dance pop and some great ballads mixed with some soul, enhanced by George's feminine vocals, small wonder that they won 1983's Best New Artist Grammy. But Boy George's heroin problems put a fast end to the group after their fourth album, From Luxury To Heartache. After getting cleaned up, Boy George went solo, still a hit in Britain, but in the US, alas no! Pity, because he came out with pretty great solo material.

Most of the singles are present, from CC's 3 weeks at #2 hit "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" from their debut Kissing To Be Clever. This ballad highlights George's soul-tinged vocals, as well as the backing section of soul singers and airy, lounging synths. My favourite CC ballad is the tearjerking non-charter "Victims," with its melancholy piano and backing crooners, as well as a midsection that briefly goes into a classic disco crescendo before settling back down.

The upbeat Caribbean-like "I'll Tumble 4 Ya" peaked at #9, demonstrating CC's dance pop skills. However, the non-LP "Time (Clock of the Heart)" which also peaked at #2, incorporated some classic disco synths with a funky bassbeat, telling that illusory theme how time won't give us time, making lovers feel like they got something real.

Guest artists that helped Culture Club include Jermaine Stewart, who was on their #5 dance hit "Miss Me Blind" before he sang about not having to take one's clothes off. Ironically, it was this song that has the lyric "kissing to be clever," and not their debut album. Helen Terry's wailing soulful vocals found their way not only here but on the #10 "Church of the Poison Mind," an infectious dance tune Wham! would've given their blow-dried hair for. Terry later helped George on his solo single "Generations of Love" also included here.

And it's no contest that Colour By Numbers was their best albums, as that yielded four Top Ten singles, including the three-week chart-topper "Karma Chameleon," of how love games make that love touch and go, like the chameleon that camouflages itself to become invisible. George performed this and I believe "Move Away" when he guest-starred on the A-Team episode "Cowboy George."

However, nothing from Waking Up With The House On Fire is present, meaning no "The War Song," one of my favourite CC singles. The sole representative from From Luxury To Heartache was the #12 "Move Away," CC's last Top 40 hit and one of my favourites, a slick number highlighted by a snappy drum machines and bass, but with some downbeat lyrics, made more so as Boy George's drug problems probably contributed to low sales of what was an underrated album.

Two quibbles. One are the spoken bits preceding "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" and "Sweet Toxic Love." The others are the exclusion of "The War Song," "Black Money," "Mistake No. 3," and the pro-gay rights anthem "No Clause 28," in response to an anti-gay legislation pushed by then British PM Maggie Torture.

Boy George hit #1 in the UK with his reggaefied cover of Bread's "Everything I Own." He branched out, going a bit mystical with the acoustic singalong of "Bow Down Mister," where he called for doing whatever your religion called for you do, with the same soulful CC choruses, with some hare Krishna refrains. Some sitar is present in the bittersweet two-sides-of-the-coin "Sweet Toxic Love," proving he never lost his touch-just his American audience. In it, he embraces yet feels agony over love, "give me some of that sweet toxic love...to lift me up, to drive me insane." Elsewhere, he assertively tells his lover-"I'm not your punch bag, I'm not your floor, you cant walk on me until you get bored." Pretty intelligent stuff.

His last big hit in the US was the #15 title song to The Crying Game, which ranks as one of the best emotionally-racking songs I've ever heard-"first there are kisses, then there are sighs, and then before you know where you are, you're saying goodbye." Per the song, I've asked myself-not the moon-why are there heartaches and tears.

Culture Club was way too progressive for many parts of the U.S., where a clear homophobic element was rife. The name though was just right. Consider their original incarnations-In Praise of Lemmings (bizarre) or Sex Gang Children, (small trouble marketing that).

As strange as he may seem is as good as it gets. This guys voice is amazing, he hits all the notes to perfection. This collection is just enough, Few would want to sit through a 20 song Culture Club collection. Aretha Franklin, Karen Carpenter and Whitney move over, make room for Boy George on the all time best female singer list. Too bad his voice got ruined by drugs. This album is very good from first to last song and a great bargain for the price. Try not singing along when your stuck in traffic.

A good blast from the Eighties/early 90's...I could probably think of about 2-5 more songs they could have either added or substituted some for, but was still a good cd.

its a great album with the best culture club and boy george songs ever. the best songs are here, and if you miss this one, you're missing out. a true flashback to the eighties with our beautiful boy, and a great band!

Check this out! I was in Seattle a couple of weeks ago, doing some cd shopping and came across this cd, and the moment I looked at the playlist I was hooked. I had no intention of even buying The Culture Club. I don't know about the one featured here, but mine was a import and contains 16 tracks, for 10 or 11 bucks(brand new).

Now i'm not a huge huge fan, but i like them a lot. To me, this is all the culture club i will need. I guess some people are talking about some song "move away", well it's not on mine. I don't remember the song and dont miss it. I was 5 or 6 when they were at their peak, so i could be missing something, I doubt it though. If u find the import u should stop, pick up, and purchase.

AWESOME collection of songs by Boy George. I know all the words to these songs and I even listen to it in the car while driving to Muskegon. Great CD to buy at the store in the ''Cheaper CDs'' selection. The track list is from KTOBC (3), CBN (5) WUWTHOF (1) and FLTH (1).

The crazy thing about Culture is that this record sounds more unique today than when new. I remember thinking that Joseph Hill and gang were roots to a fault. No hooks and gimmicks to catch the listeners ears. Just a simple smooth continuous riff for Joseph to drift his voice over. I was wrong, sure the groove is like a drive thru the country, but the band and back-up harmonies do fill in every nook and cranny. They just do it without big city road rage.

one of the best reggae albums i own now. if you like any culture, u'll love this. truly a gift from jah.

One of the greatest reggae albums ever written! You don't even have to be a pot smoker to enjoy it. They give king Bob a run for his money with this album.

A stunner by culture - I saw the cover of the album, maked by a budding female, and checked out the first track 'International Herb'. Brilliant, on the basis of this track I purchased the album and I reckon it to be the best Ive heard yet. A stormer! To anyone who liked Two Sevens Clash, this is better!

I would say that I can't fathom why so many people have given this rather spotty album such glowing 5-star reviews, but then again, a lot of people seem to have a tendency to judge things based on nostalgia and sentimentality from their childhood or teen years instead of looking at a product honestly, without the rose-colored glasses. I myself have great sentimentality for Eighties music, but this album doesn't make me feel nostalgic and sentimental at all. The album doesn't stand up all that well over time, unlike 'Colour by Numbers,' which I absolutely love. Too many of the songs on KTBC just strike me as unmemorable and not very distinct from one another. The songs on a truly classic album shouldn't be sounding so similar. There are even three songs in a row with incredibly similar titles, "White Boy," "Boy, Boy (I'm the Boy)," and "White Boys Can't Control It." (At least they were all in a row on the original release; I don't know why the CD reissue scrambled the order of all of the tracks!)

In my opinion, the only songs on this album that really stand up to multiple listens and have held up well over time are the three hits, "Time (Clock of the Heart)," "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?," and "I'll Tumble 4 Ya." The lattermost might be rather trite lyrically, but at least it's catchy, and is more distinct and memorable than most of the rest of the songs on this album. A couple of other songs aren't that bad, like "I'm Afraid of Me" and "White Boys Can't Control It," but overall they just don't make up what I would consider a timeless classic great album. Although if these tracks were played separately at an Eighties-themed dance party, instead of all in a row, they might not seem so similar and underdeveloped.

"Time (Clock Of The Heart)" was a heavenly musical marriage of Brit-Pop, Philly Soul and Adult Contemporary...and a truly definitive and undisputed classic slice of '80s Pop. This album and its huge hit singles defined the sound and style of 1980s music and set a prototype for bands that came afterward. If you (like me) were a 1980s kid then waste no time in getting this CD as this music will bring back many memories and take you back to a time when all was (compared to today) right with the world. Best of all, this remastered edition has GREAT sound quality plus several bonus cuts. Enjoy!

Its a great album, and The Boy sounds really sweet.Its a must have for anyone that loves BOY GEORGE.

This album is one of my favourites.I think that Kissing To Be Clever is the best album by Culture Club.I got it from my grandma to my name day and I was surprised.
Do You Really Want To Hurt Me is my favourite song at this album.I think that this song is very good.It is melodical and peaceful.Murder Rap Trap feat.Captain Crucial is my second favourite song.The song sounds funny with voice of Captain Crucial.
Love Is Cold and Love Twist are also my favourite songs,because they are melodical and quite fast.The other songs are good too.You must own this album,if you're an old Culture Club fan.

Don't bother with the other reviewers who dismissed CC's brilliant debut album - along with COLOUR BY NUMBERS, it's their strongest, sexiest, and just plain addictive album ever! The writing, the production, the vocals, the groove, the design - they all really take me back to my early teen years circa 1982, a simpler, happier time when CC were charting a bold new world in pop music & beyond - once you hear WHITE BOY, I'M AFRAID OF ME, DO YOU REALLY?, TIME, and many more, you won't be able to get them out of you head...and trust me, they really get a party started right! BOY himself sounds naive, in love, and confident all at once - and who can forget the delicious shock of seeing him dominate early MTV with a string of cool videos that launched them around the globe? BONUS tracks here are a nice addition - hard to believe the first CD issue of this LP never even included TIME?! *I think it was recorded later as a stop/gap single, which explains its late inclusion. No matter, KISSING TO BE CLEVER is a bargain with stunning REMASTERED sound and BONUS cuts you won't find anywhere else - a must-have addition to any true CC fan's collection!

Before purchasing this album, I'd not heard Culture since I was in college. A buddy of mine used to spin a couple of their discs of which this, I now know, was one. I can do without the five bonus tracks which are basically remixes of selections from the primary track list that I'll probably never listen to again. But the core album itself is really slammin' from start to finish. Very solid, upbeat and still quite fresh sounding. The liner notes and photos in the booklet that comes with this 30-anniversary edition are enjoyable too. If you're a reggae fan, you won't be disappointed by this record.

OK I haven't bought the new release of Two Sevens Clash, but I like owned the original Ja. LP and the earlier CD and will buy this one because it is like the finest reggae album except maybe Blackheart Man (Bunny) or East of the River Nile (Augustus Pablo)--except buyer beware since the song Two Sevens Clash foretells the ending of the world on 7/7/77 and in case you haven't noticed this did not happen.

This does lessen the impact of the song; on the other hand, you don't have to hide in your house on that day.

Revision:

I now own this 30th anniversary edition and am astonished. The songs are in a different order than on the earlier CD release, and amazingly it matters. The changed (I suspect, corrected) order of these songs tie the songs together thematically--this is actually a concept album and a good one!!! Wow! This is VERY rare in Roots reggae...

I have listened to the original Two Sevens Clash CD a whole lot and didn't know if buying a new version would be worth the money. First off, the remastering of the CD is wonderful and worth the price alone, even if you already own the original. Second, the additional five songs are absolutely brilliant and sound awesome. I-Roy is in top form on the two tracks he appears on.

Joseph Hill and company are so good that it is hard to put into words. This is reggae at its best. It's not hard to understand why the great Bob Nesta Marley had a lot of admiration for the music of Culture. This release of Two Sevens Clash is an essential album by an essential reggae group. If you have any interest in reggae music whatsoever I highly recommend getting this album.

Most of my exposure to reggae has been by listening to Bob Marley. It seems that there is more to reggae than just him, so my next foray into reggae was through the soundtrack to "The Harder They Come" by Jimmy Cliff. This album has similarities to both of them but there are differences.

Overall, I thought this was a very well written album. I like the songs and the music is very catchy. One nice thing I like about the music for reggae is that it is happy (even though the subject may not be). My only complaint with this album is the odd size.

While Culture Club wrote some of the most memorable pop songs of the 80s, and that's saying a lot, it's sometimes easy to forget that they also crafted top notch soul music, and this record really proves it. Boy George has never sounded better than on the slower "Black Money" and "That's The Way", and the vocal interaction between Boy and Helen Terry create some real evocative soul moments. There are more than enough fantastic pop songs, but the great soul tracks prove this band put all they had into this record and besides "Time (Clock of the Heart)" this album has the best of Culture Club.

Colour By Numbers still holds up as Culture Club's finest album.

By the time of its October 1983 release, "Church of the poison mind" and "Karma chameleon" were already hits, reaching no. 2 and no. 1, respectively, in the UK. The arrival of the album proper consolidated Culture Club's status as one of the most popular groups in the world.

Some may have missed the tribal percussion elements of the first album, but the new album mined Motown ("Church of the poison mind"), country ("Karma chameleon"), and gospel ("That's the way") influences to further refine the Culture Club sound. And the songs were so much better overall.

Helen Terry was also added to the group; her vocal presence is most notable on "Church of the poison mind", "Black money", and "That's the way". (She also features on "Time (Clock of the heart)" which was included on the US edition of Kissing To Be Clever, and on the Japanese edition of Colour By Numbers, but was just a stand-alone single in the UK.)

The singles here are largely the best songs on the album, though I still think that "It's a miracle" made more sense in its original version as "It's America". "Black money" should have been a single, but never was. I tend to skip over "Changing every day" and "Stormkeeper", but neither song is bad.

"That's the way (I'm only trying to help you)" is really the highlight of the album for me. It is simply piano and vocals, but the interplay between Boy George and Helen Terry makes for a riveting listen.

I'm not fond of the remastered edition; most of the extra tracks are available elsewhere, and I find the overall sound too compressed for my taste. My recommendation would be to find a used copy of the previous CD edition, and purchase the extra tracks from this edition as separate downloads.

Though they had scored nicely with the preceeding

it was this album which will go down as their "Sgt. Pepper"
in terms of what they were about and capable of!
Every song on here is bangin'!
Along with CC doing their thing and Boy George handling the
lead vocals in his "Smokey Robinson meets Sylvester" way,
there was the excellent and soulful wailings of Helen Terry
throughout (why she never got offered a deal is beyond me!)
and the late Jermaine Stewart in the background!
As I said, all of this album is still the bomb,
but one in particular, "Victims", still melts my heart
to this day!

This was the cd that I was waiting for. After my cassette version disintegrated years ago, I decided to wait for a proper remastered version to become available before getting a replacement. The wait was very long but finally the wait was worth it.

The remastering quality is brilliant and the album has never sounded better. The extra tracks are good too and unlike in other albums do not detract from or otherwise demean the main album material.

Boy George's antics may sometime detract from Culture Club as musicians and make it difficult to take them seriously but Boy is this album a good one (pun intended). All the tracks are wonderful and showcase the band as the great singer/songwriter/musicians that they are.

Great tracks, great sound quality, what more could you ask for? Go get this already!

There's so many songs by Culture Club I wanted, I got their Best Of/Greatest Hits as well.
Good CD though.

I am not going to say this album is as good as Bob, but it is powerfully good none the less. Closest thing I have heard to capturing that Wailer sound. I strongly recommend it for anyone interested in listening to classic reggae and wants to to stay away from the dance hall stuff.

Culture's lead singer, Joseph Hill is an unassuming, humble and friendly man, who is small in stature. Those who meet him are often unprepared for his tranformation onstage, when he sings with Culture. Somehow, Hill is tranformed into a towering giant, a lion, and avenger for the power of Rastafari when he picks up the microphone to sing. This kind of charisma that of a man who has rasta in his heart. To his credit, Joseph Hill has maintained a steady course, and both his Rastafarian philosophy and the music of Culture has remained with the roots of reggae music, despite over thirty years of strange mutations in Jamaican reggae music. "Harder Than the Rest" is exactly what the title purports it to be.... the hardest and most straight ahead collection of roots reggae when conscious music ruled, and Rastafari was the source of all reggae. Perhaps roots consciousness has fallen from fashion, but jah people will never forget how important Culture was and still is. I love Culture's "Two Sevens Clash" and "Baldhead Bridge" but this CD is truly harder than the rest and proves that reggae music neither began or ended with Bob Marley.

The is the best reggae album ever. "be careful of the things you do..."

Oh Behold! the greatest ever!

I don't own this album (yet), but whenever I hear it it makes me want to rush out and buy it, only I can't find it anywhere. It's so beautiful all the way through, but "play skillfully" almost brings a tear to my eye. It's lyrical content, melody and harmonies are out-of-this-world. Buy this now.

I like this record. Positive vibes, never that cheesy sound. Good, smooth, slightly wah wah rhythms, with 3 part harmonies that remind me a little of the Abyssinians. This album is full of slow, catchy hooks. Listen to the samples - nuff said.

Fun CD to listen to. Lyrics are humorous. Similar to B-52's only with a rock-a-billy sound.

These guys (and Gal) just keep on coming with good music. They do an excellant job on a number of great cover tunes and the recording is very good. If you like the Skids you will like this one. If you have not heard the Skids it is a great start.

And I thought Liquored Up & Lacquered Down was the unrequited anthem to an undiscovered piece of myself.... Muswell Hillbilly and Funnel of Love are just a few more precious memories to sing along to on the way to Happy Jack! A good time had by all once again! Only the Scots can so masterfully express the essential place that moonpies and aqua net play in any good southern girl's arsenal.... in a song! Love the SCOTS!

I recommended this disc on a Rolling Stones' Fan-Club site and someone remarked "that album scratches me right where I itch". I can't write a better review than that. This has a great, eclectic, choice of songs and strong lively performances. What more than fun do you want from your rock n roll?

I got my first CD player at the age of 15 in the glorious summer of 1985 - this is back when the CD player was the size of a small refrigerator and they hadn't even invented the "shuffle" option. CDs sold for over $20 and came in surfboard-sized plastic sheets that required the Jaws of Life to open. I look back on that old heap of slag and smile.

Not so my CD collection. I still have many of the CDs I bought in those years, and it is stunning how many CDs I bought that had one good song surrounded by dreck. I guess that's the problem of going to a high school where Ratt, Cinderalla, Poison and other big-hair bands were worshipped - there's only so much redemption that "Pyromania" and "1984" can provide.

Suffice it to say that as I've grown older, I've grown more temperate in my musical purchases - if the album isn't consistently good from start-to-finish, I won't buy it. Based on that criteria, I can offer little praise higher than to say that I've bought all of SCOTS' albums and have never regretted it - not a single "Invasion of Your Privacy" in the bunch.

That SCOTS would crank out a cover album doesn't surprise me - this is a band that is proud of its influences and has paid tribute to other songwriters and bands in previous albums - "Pass the Hatchet," anyone? This album features the unique SCOTS' take on a bunch of old timey stuff that comes out smelling like . . . well, not roses, but at the very least a big old mess of barbeque.

SCOTs defines the party album for me. There are few better guarantees for a fun get-together than to put a few of these albums in the player and let fly. And these are good for both lazy outdoor get togethers and late-night boot-stompers. These are quick, fun tunes played with style and belted out with sass - especially when Mary Huff gets her big old voice in gear.

If you haven't checked out SCOTS before, I can't tell you that "CF" is the perfect album to start with . . . I'd start with my favorite, "Liquored Up and Lacquered Down," but that's just me. Suffice it to say that this album won't steer you wrong, and may open up vast new possibilities as you reconsider a slighted musical genre.
