Delerium

This album is my second favorite by Delerium, topped only by Poem. It is hugely listenable. After a stressful day at work, this CD has become a favorite to relax to. I'm not particularly fanatical about Delerium. I don't have especially strong ties to any one Delerium style, or album(s), but this is one of my favorites.

A longtime Delerium and Enigma fan since their first albums.

Each repeat listen brings up something new that I hadn't heard before and I feel as if I'm hearing a slightly different album every time.

Richly layered, Nuages du Monde, is in some ways a new level of sophistication. The first four cuts have become my favorites.

Definitely worth a listen for long-time fans and newcomers who appreciate a more subtle, trance-like sound.

The group Delerium have matched their usuall high standard with this celtic middle eastern sound with a bulgarian folk feel blended in most original and very satisfying.

I bought this CD. And it is very good. I like all the different things delerium has put out. This time around I am glad that they went back to the roots. I would highly recommend Delerium's music to everyone.

I am not a music expert, but I've heard similar music under the New Age or New World category. If it is part of it, I have to say this group has a very spiritual and flowing feeling. Great combination of soft trance with vocalized sounds. I love this CD and Nuages de Monde-incredible type of music I haven't been exposed to yet and I love its mysterious feeling!

Yes, it's true most of the tracks stretch far beyond the 3-4 min. length of a typical radio hit, but every single one takes the early Enigma/Deep Forest formula and branches it off (imagine this not unlike an open source fork) to form a unique identity: jubilant tribes chants rest comfortably above propulsive drumming, providing good music for mostly meditation -- at times, the mood gets rather soaring, but it ebbs & flows deliciously.

Delerium's Karma is one of the signature landmarks which many derivatives were spawned from -- I know earlier tracks like "Metamorphosis" touched on (and were even more blatantly ripped off from Enigma), but they really hit their mature stride here. While future albums would count more on female vocalists than samples fresh from the forests/jungles/churches, Karma has been here to enjoy.

It's hard to believe it's been over a decade, but I remember popping into my local music store, putting on headphones, and nodding my head to the exotic delights within -- exotic not just because the source sounds came from a foreign country, but because of how Rhys & Fulber arranged such a meticulous collage into a cohesive vision.

Some weird feeling tells me some of these songs would work beautifully in a Stephanie Meyer! There's a mildly gothic vibe in places, oh yes...

This was Delerium's move towards the pop mainstream. Having tasted some success with Semantic Spaces, Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb polished out the chill/electronic dance to a slick shine, recruited Sarah McLachlan and recorded "Silence." It became their best known song and - once remixed - a dance club smash.

However, this album loses some of the more ethereal qualities that made the previous Delerium CD's stand out. The Enigma chant/old-world hybrid had already been played out by now; some ten years later it seems a bit dated. There's still plenty of dreamy ambience to be had here ("Euphoria"), as Delerium always had a terrific way with female vocalists (and "Silence" is a fantastic song). However, this is not their best work. You can check out either Semantic Spaces, Morpheus or the The Best of Delerium first.

very musical trance/ethereal style. 2nd CD gives multiple mixes of the same 2-3 tunes; it could seem boring to hear the same song on those cds, but it's quite nice to see the different ways they could release the same song and make it sound good.

Ive always wanted to like Delerium. And on this album, there are a few songs that i think deserve alot of credit. But I have to criticize what these guys are actually doing to produce the music they do. These guys get way, way too carried away with sampling. I feel like albums like this honestly do give electronic music the bad reputation that it has of only being a venue for people to rip off other peoples music, alter it and call it their own.

Now there is alot of vocal talent being used here. The structure of the songs holds up really well. For most listeners, they wont care about my gripes. But I actually get angry when i listen to it.

The drum mixes are randomly thrown together. Drum breaks that work rhythmically but sounds very very lazy as far as letting the drums work in the mix of the song. Every synth sounds very similar. Either arpeggio stabs or moog style leads for every sound. Not nearly being as creative in synth programming as alot of albums i hear that dont get nearly the credit this one does. Though the melodies are really good.

But by far, the absolute worst sin committed on this album. Is that the entire album is very focused on ethnic/world type music. But yet, I cant hear one single time where any of these instruments are actually being played. Everytime... its sampled. Who does a thing like that? I cant think of any other band who writes an entire album like this without once ever inviting an actual musician into the studio to record them. Thats seriously lazy. And thats why i feel this album is grossly overrated.

I purchased this as a gift and it arrived in a very timely manner and the person loved the gift.

It took me til the 4th one to finally break down and by a pure moods cd but i'm glad i did. there are only 1 or 2 songs that i'm not thrilled with but sometimes i'm even in a mood to hear them. i'm more inclined to buy others from the series now. My favorite songs are "november" and "shadows in silence"

You got to hand it to Virgin Records. The PURE MOODS sreies of discs has been extremely sucsessful. They have been able to allow mood music gain a very wide audience without being too Way Out New Age or too commercial. This is the fourth disc in the series and it scores big like the others ( although #2 is my favourite). This disc has eighteen tracks, and a lot of them are under four minutes in length. But that does not mean they are filler.

A lot of reviewers gripe that the series is losing its edge and is catering to public appeal. Any compilation will never satisfy everybody. Criticisms range from "heard these songs before" to "too much piano" to "the same old artists". Remember this is music to put you in a certain mood of relaxation or peace or whatever. It is not to be taken too seriously. I for one enjoy having this music playing whether I am resting, working or enjoying company with friends.

There are some stunning tracks. I love the first four songs which set a great mood. I know SILENCE by Delerium and Sarah McLachlan is on many chillout albums but it is still an amazing performance and her vocal is overwhelming! If I do have a mild criticism of the album, it is that from Track 5 onwards the music does seem stripped down apart from one or two exceptions. Maybe a different playing order would have helped. Tracks 5-9 are pleasant to listen to but do tend to be similar in arrangement and tempo. Track 10 livens things up with Yann Tiersen's LA VALSE d'AMELIE but it is a short track. The Moby track on the other hand is too long and monotonous and sems very out of place here. The next track, however is a gem. Rachel Portman's theme from Chocolat is very beautiful and delicate. This and SILENCE are the two tracks I listen to the most. The album does sag until near the end. McLachlan's ANGEL is a little dull. Seems like it has been on the radio a lot but I do not listen to radio so it is new to me. B-Tribe's version of SHE MOVED THROUGH THE FAIR is just wrong. Coming from Ireland, I have heard so many wonderful versions of this song that could have been included. This track has a vocal that seems to drag the whole song down and the music seems to merge different musical elements without sucsess. THIS LOVE and RIVER OF STARS could be the same song. However the former is too long. Thankfully the last track lifts the spirits. WHEN YOU'RE FALLING has the Afro-Celt Soundsystem perfoming with guest vocalist Peter Gabriel and it adds a much needed oomph to close the album. This great song had the worst possible luck in succeeding because the very original video had to be pulled soon after it was released in August 2001 on account of the horrific events on 9/11. I will not go into any detail but you will find the video on You Tube and you will understand why it is rarely shown after watching it.

P.S. Check out some British Chillout compilattion albums if you can. There are some amazing artists that you do not hear about in the USA like The Beloved, Kinobe, Groove Armada, The Chemical Brothers, Royksapp, Everything But The Girl, Goldfrapp, Zero 7 and many others.

I use this cd for my yoga practice, it's wonderful.
Highly recommend.

"Apparently the only mood that matters is one of pensive melancholy. Nearly every track on this addition to the series is set in a minor key. Some are played solo, like George Winston's new age relic 'Sea.' Some are crammed with odd instrumentation, as in the briefly startling last section of Yann Tiersen's 'La Valse d'Amélie.' Some have entire orchestras sawing away. There are ambitious works like Moby's 'God Moving Over the Face of the Waters,' whose attempts to marry grandeur and minimalism are somewhat undercut by the monotony of a cymbal sample repeated too predictably. I only found a couple of selections that I liked but that's typical. You pay 20 bucks for two songs. I bought if for "That's price of falling in Love". Love that piece. The rest is OK.

Great compilation. Even though I own a lot of their stuff, I still bought this CD.

This album was very nice. I would have done it a bit different, but then we all have different tastes. I love "Paris", that is such a fun song. Another great song that I thought was great was "Flowers Become Screens", this sounds like a gothic/angelic piece. This is a great album, you will have fun with the many different moods it creates.

I have many of the Delerium CD's but there are songs here that I have never heard before. This is an excellent compliation of the music of Delerium. I'm frankly surprised that they would make it as good as it is since you could buy it and have much of their best music. On the other hand the music is so good it could also inspire you to buy all of their other CD's. If you like Delirium in the least this is a can't miss purchase.

This album is a nice blend of 14 really good tracks by Delerium. There is not a single song that I skip on this CD. From what I have read and listened to, if you are going to buy only one Delerium album, make it this one. There are some Gregorian monks chanting, Indian sound clips, good special effects and synth use, beautiful sounding female vocalists, poppy upbeat songs, and more introspective tracks as well. If you like this album I can also recommend Amethystium, Mythos, Blue Stone, Balligomingo, and Sleepthief. I am happy to have them all in my collection. Really exquisite stuff.

It has been nearly a decade since a former roommate of mine converted me into a diehard Delerium fan. One of my college roommates lent me his copy of KARMA and that is what got me hooked. After that introduction, I began what would become a steady relationship with the electronica act. Of all the Delerium cds I have heard over the years, POEM is easily my personal favorite. The music has the right balance of pop and ambient music with a dash of classical. I am not a fan of Leigh Nash for most of the time but I definitely enjoyed her contribution to POEM (as well as other Delerium albums). Her distinctive vocals gives "Innocente" a haunting quality to the song. I often get the chills when I listen to the song. Another wondeful song is "Aria" which features the classical vocal group Mediaeval Baebes. The womens' vocals are enchanting as always for this fan of MB. I personally enjoyed Matthew Sweet's vocals on "Daylight". It was different but overtime I have grown to love that song. I do think the song might have sounded better if it was at the beginning or end of the cd. Having it placed in between songs sung by women was a bit disjointing. My personal favorite song on the entire album is "A Poem for Byzantium" sung by Joanna Stevens (formerly of Solar Twins). The hooks, the lyrics, and Joanna's polished vocals was a killer combination. It is a beautiful song that I can never tire of listening to. I should also note Joanna also sings on "Myth", another lovely number. The only song I am truly tired of is "Silence". It was already on KARMA so I don't know why it was added here on POEM. Either way, the song has worn out its welcome with me over the years. Asides from "Silence", the entire album is joy to listen for me even after eight years since its release.

This is Delerium best album. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of this type a music .

For those that are Delerium fanS you won't be disappointed, however saying that I don't think we need Silence repeated as are some other tracks. Top track for my mind is "A poem for Byzantium" you'll enjoy hearing it over & over again. Cant go wrong with this CD.

I was not overly fond of some earlier Delerium CDs. I'm not a huge fan of electronica, or dance. I was even getting tired of some of the newer stuff from Enigma. Then, this came out. A wonderful idea. Different vocalists, new songs and the electronica at the service of the music and the singers. It works so well. My two personal favorites are A Poem for Byzantium featuring Joanna Stevens and Fallen Icons featuring Jenifer McLaren. However, I have to admit that I have always loved Sarah McLachlan's voice, and this version of Silence was a hit, too. This is a very unusual, very lovely CD. The words are creative and literate, the music has melody and meaning, and the vocals are all excellent. A damned good CD

While not surpassing or even matching it's predecessor "Karma", 2000's "Poem" is a really good follow-up to that masterpiece. I remember getting excited over the release of this album when it came out. I think what made it not dissapointing was that I was not expecting another "Karma" and that helps. "Poem" is a very good sounding album throughout though it took time to digest. "Aria" is my favorite song on this CD. It starts with a haunting intro and a dark minor note beginning giving the sense of a foggy morning and watching it get brighter outside. An exotic rhythm comes in and the song becomes a sunny day mood song like as if the fog cleared out. "Aira" is by far my favorite track on this CD but that doesn't mean the others aren't great either. "Temptation" is another great track I enjoy.

I'm not sure what must have been going through the minds of the record label when assembling this collection as a sequel to Pure Moods vol. I. Now granted, most of Pure Moods I is actually quite good and enjoy it though I don't think it stacks up to the "Earthtone Collection", "Elevation", or "Buddha Lounge" series nor warranted TV commercials. The second entry in the Pure Moods series is in my opinion, the most uneven and shakiest of the entries for several reasons, several tracks do absolutely nothing for me. "Nightingale" strikes me as meandering classical leftovers from a orchestral outtake. No offense but what on Earth is "Breezin" doing on this collection?! It's not a bad song by any means but it has absolutely no place on here and belongs on a smooth jazz moods collection. The same goes for Dave Koz's "Emily" even though I think it's a wonderful song and among my favorites. "Weatherstorm" is pathetic, nuff said. "Theme From Harry's Game" is a great song, very innovative for 1982 standards but is found on too many various artists and 'best of' collections.

Enough with the negatives. There are still enough very good tracks that in my opinion keep this from being a complete failure. "Life in a Northern Town" is a very lovely mid-80s acoustic electronic pop hybrid track that could be the soundtrack to a drive in northern Scotland on a sunny afternoon. "Mummer's Dance" is a dark-horse classic with it's unique blend of Middle-Eastern and Celtic wintery sounds. I was suprised at how well the song did on the top 40 charts during late 1997 and early 1998. Loreena's voice is enchanting throughout the song. "The Cradlesong" is a lovely blend of echoing Ambient Native American and New Age Groove, reminscent of "500 Nations". "Montezuma" is a very intense song with loud thundering Central Drums, and slightly classical elements scattered throughout. Definately among my favorites on here. Other greats include Delirium's danceable "Euphoria", "Beyond The Invisible", and "The Mystic Dream".

This collection overall is in my opinion, the most uneven of the four Pure Moods CDs. Some tracks are absolutely drab yet others are magnificent making this among the most shaky collections out there. I definately recommend it though not as a 'must-have'. The successor to this collection, "Vol. III" corrected most of the mistakes made on here.

I bought the very first Pure Moods and was hooked. When this one came out, I went and bought and was not dissappointed.

I loved the first CD, so got the 2nd one. Quite dissapointed. I thought a handful of the songs on 2 were good, such as Firefly, but overall it just seems like they threw together a bunch of songs to sell a copy of a popular CD.

What a marvelous collection of mesmerizing music this is. I have been listening to this album all week, as I can't get it out of my head. Pure Moods are one my favorite collections as they bring awareness of similar music that goes together so well. The beauty of this album is the mix of music that evokes a certain mood, while not sounding all too similar.

Starting off with Loreena McKennitt's "The Mummers Dance" a hypnotic song from the first note that sounds like time travel from ancient Byzantium to the mystic Celtic seas followed by Montezuma, one of my favorite Cusco pieces. Cusco is a duet of two German keyboard players Michael Holm and Kristian Schultze who make their enigmatic music sound very original and South American. The music is not traditional; it's a mix of outer space, new age and pan flutes. Very interesting and incredibly likable.

"Nightingale" by Yanni is just incredible, every time I have it on I almost forget I am listening to music, I simply feel it and I am always amazed at how gorgeous it sounds and whenever I hear this song it feel like the first time I am hearing it as it stuns me.

Another favorite of mine, Adiemus makes an appearance, the interesting figment is that
the language is made up by Karl Jenkins, the sounds are not meant to distract the listener from the music. It is a mix of classical and world music with great freedom of movement and is the kind of music they use in breathtaking movie soundtracks.

Delerium's "Euphoria" almost sounds like a Madonna song, is lovely and spirited with a breath of enigma. There is also "The Weather Storm" by Craig Armstrong, another strong musical piece that does sound like an actual storm of music.

"Teardrop" by Massive Attack sounds like song everything knows they heard somewhere but they don't know what it is. My favorite part is the base beat, it sounds like the human heart.

The rest of the performers from Lovely and church like Clannad which make me feel like I am in an ancient monastery listening to the monks, to "Chariots of Fire" a classic from Vangelis to wonderful and earthy "Breezing" that sounds like the first day of spring to Enigma, to me the empress of New Age. This collection is stellar and each song is a 5 star to me.

This cd makes me happy; it's relaxing, lovely, and addictive and provides great inspiration when I need it to concentrate while I work on my art. Each song has been carefully hand picked to hit the listener with a magnitude of emotion and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who needs to sit back and be transported. The songs feel like caresses of ancient wind on the face and make me feel like I have been meditating for hours. Pure Moods is an excellent cd to pick up by someone who needs an introduction to new Age and relaxing music. So far this has been my favorite disc, but they are all lovely.

I have always enjoyed Delerium music and when I saw that this CD came with a Bonus Videos I was stoked. I love being able to have great visuals with great music. So when this CD arrived I went strait to the DVD player and put the Bonus disc in.
Didn't work...

To my surprise I found out that I have to play this on my computer to watch the videos and must be linked to the internet.
I paid an extra 5 dollars to be able to watch something via internet when I can just go strait to Youtube and see the same thing.

This is not a bad rating because of the music, love the music. Just pissed about the viewing format of the videos.

I bought this CD out of curiosity that there could be such a divergence of opinion about the music of a group I enjoy a lot.

It's true that the songs have the feel of popular music, which I don't listen to. One or two of the songs border on what I will tolerate in sweet sixths and over production. ("Magic" is an example, complete with fairly trite lyrics).

But the outstandingly strong songs her vastly outnumber and outpower the weak. I think "After All" and "Run for It" are a couple of the most interesting songs musically I've heard in 2007. Leigh Nash on "Run for It" is a real discovery, and from my research on her, I don't think she's ever done better.

On the whole, Chimera has some of the most imaginative music on it that I have in my Library, which includes past Delirium CDs that lean much more toward ambient electronic. As far as the genre "pop electronica-Female Vocalist" goes, this is close to the peak.

Chimera is my favorite Deleruim album; I am flabbergasted by the reviews who give it one star. I know everyone has different taste but really, if you hate it this much then maybe you shouldn't be listening to it...

The richness and electrifying variety of songs and melodies here is enough to satisfy my crankiest hunger for good music. After a few listens I was still amazed how every song seemed to sound even better than the last, and this feeling pretty much continued until the end of the disc. For those who like Enigma, Oakenfold, Orbital, Zero 7, Tiesto, Enya and the likes this will be a nice new addition to the new age/electronic/chill out genre. Delerium is hard to pin point; their style is a mélange of soundscapes, ethereal ambient, some dance, pop and electronic.

There are many mystical elements to this album; chants and monks, piano that sounds like a silver rain trickling down, exotic languages, pipes and the whole shebang as swirls of music filter trough the breathy vocals. When listening to Chimera one minute I feel like a monk in a medieval sanctuary and the next minute as if I was on a dance floor with lasers and lights shimmering on me, often all within one song.

I'm a huge Delerium fan and this CD is among their greatest. It really shows off Kristy Thirsk's beautiful vocal talents. This album is well worth the money!

The best music created. If you want to enjoy music and life at the same time listen to it. Strongly recommended.

All the nice things said in the other reviews are reasonably true, but sheesh! Electronica offers infinite options for percussion - it does not HAVE to be trite, incredibly monotonous, and synthetic sounding. This is the bane of so much electronica, it's a joke. Nothing with a petty-swingin' rhythm can be good. I would give this album four or five stars if I could just erase the silly percussion tracks - almost identical in half the songs. Get the Karma album instead.

This CD is pretty good. It is definitely above average. I was not disappointed. For $13.98 it is an excellent value. However, the $2.98 for shipping was a little too high and it destroyed the original value that came with paying $13.98 for a CD. I would have liked to pay $2.00 or less for shipping. Other than that, the music is above average. I would have given my purchase 5 stars instead of 4 if it had not been for the expensive shipping costs.

This is a sine qua non for anyone's music collection. On comparisons to Enigma, I'd say Enigma are definitely the epigone in the standings. Newer Delerium is not as good since Rhys moved to a more commercial production style but this is splendid -their best release combining the sonic architecture of previous albums with the pleasant sensibilities of the newer albums. Semantic Spaces is one of the best produced sonic experiences I've found. It provides a complete healing journey into the multiverse and definitely tops Posford and others for psychedelic soundspaces. With a collection over 5000 CDs strong, this album easily makes it to a desert island 10-pack.

Two CD's to enjoy at home, in your car or in a party, from the beginning to the end, all songs are fantastic.

As a "Remix" it's a little unfair to compare this record to the other recordings released by Delerium. I consider myself to be a solid Delirium fan since I own all their recordings. While this recording is true to their "sound" you should understand that this remix was intended primarily for dance clubs. As a result these recordings are previously released singles but with a very distinct overdubbed techno beat throughout the entire recording. As someone on the dance floor might say; "It has a good beat and is easy to dance to". While many reviews here mention the beat is repetitive it only fair to say that's the general idea of a trance like dance club recording. While some cuts are better than others I personally enjoy this Odyssey-The Remix Collection Delirium deviation. But... if an incessant boom, boom, boom, boom will make you crazy... then you probably don't want to add this to your collection.

Seems like they were just trying to make an extra buck by releasing versions that weren't included on the other CD.

Prior to this album I had never heard of Delerium. This album totally won me over though and now I love Delerium. This is Trance at its BEST. Even though there are multiple remixes of some of the same songs they sound completely different. I personally prefer a lot of the remixes on this album over some of the originals. The music is very fluid, constantly evolving and ever changing, it doesn't stay the same for long. If you like trance and electronica at all...this is the album for you.

I love this album. It's one of my favorite albums EVER.

The remix collection is great especially if your checking the group out or if your a fan already. Fantastic. All their releases from Sematic Spaces to Odyssey - The Remix Collection, Best of and the newest, I'll refer to it as NAGS DE' MORE, not the actual title but apropiate as dance fans and all their fans have speculated about the condition of Leebs & Fulber since Chimera. Practically everyone who as assisted with the vocals ect., is on this album. Leigh Nash, Sarah McLachlin, Kristy Thrisk, The Mediaevel Babes, On and On and On. I Misspelled Sarah's, name but you'll get it down pat with this CD, only wish older albums morpheus, stone tower, faces, forms & illusions were this good (with the vocalists I mean), the albums would still be in print and worth the money.

When I first bought the album chimera, it was lying around and collecting dust for some unknown reason that I can not recall why. However, when I eventually listened to the album, I heard this track, i.e., Truly and it simply blew me away. This is one of the best trance/pop/electro tracks that I have ever listened to. The lyrics are surprisingly good, the vocals are astounding and the sound selection is also awesome. This cd single which I listened to later has some great remixes of this track and it is a must have for the dancefloor as it will fill it for sure.

This is one of Delerium's most diverse singles to date with 6 great versions of the song.

The Wise Buddah Mixes possess the semi-classic dance formula, very similar to a Ultimix or a Todd Terry Mix-- plus the song focuses more on the vocals other than the trance area. Great Mix

Infusion Mix, is by far the best mix here. I think it samples Alex Neri's mix of Faithless/Dido's ''One Step Too Far'' featuring the brooding meditation of the original mix. Moreover-- a vast improvement over Neri's progressive and underground sound. It's also got a great trance feeling to it!. Excellent Mix.

Signum Club Mix, This is a illustrious trance mix that sounds almost identical to Madonna's ''What It Feels Like For A Girl - (Above & Beyond Mix)''-- and to add, there are moments on this track when you could swear it was remixed by The Chemical Brothers. Overall it's a really great mix!.

Brother Brown's Mixes, are the ones I disliked the most, by merit they have a great beat, but both mixes suffer from the vocal shortages.

Overall it's a great Maxi-Single for lovers of trance/house, plus the production values are very sophisticated and high.
