Ferry Corsten

Without going at lengths which is somewhat dumb when talking about music I will just say this is gonna be the album of the year in trance music. There is one song I didn't like too much, the rest are gems.

If you like electronic dance music, or just something rhythmic, melodic and beautiful - buy it.

Mind-boggling, throwing shivers back your spine and butterflies down your stomach, this album will get you moving in awe.

Wow. Wow. WOW !!!!! I do not know where I can begin on reviewing this new mix from Ferry Corsten. Unlike his last mix, Passport To The United States, this mix is just off the charts! Ferry seems to have rekindled the magic that made him one of the more underrated DJ's in IMO. Not since The Passport To The Netherlands has he been this good. And the track selection is also top notch.

This double CD's contains no filler tracks and the mixing is top notch. I've already played the set twice and I cant help liking it even more. In some of his past mixes, there would be a track here or there that I would skip after awhile, but this set has no such drawbacks. I'd have to say that this mix is as good as Anjunabeats 5 and The Thrillseekers Nightmusic Vol. 2. It's that good folks and I think you will not be let down by it.

Being a fan of classic music as well of a fan of electronic music, this album blew me away, I often play this CD when I want to create a relaxed atmosphere and I know for a fact that 4 friends of mine have bought the CD after listening to it here with me.
Xerxes and Cavalleria rusticana are sublime achievements of production.

Mr. Orbit, "Hello waveforms" is great but you should take time to produce a second CD of pieces in a modern style.

PS: It's the perfect gift for classic music lovers, you can't expect them to have it and they'll love it for sure

I have been working in electronic music for almost 20 years years. I have a massive library of music for almost any reason, mood and itch. Tonight, I am taking the five minutes to stop and write how unique, amazing and consistently refreshing this album is everytime I go back to it since the day it was released.

Highly Melodic, very electronic and overall lacking the percussive elements most have come to know when listening to Orbit.

Much more sophisticated than the average listener might appreciate.Consider it a staple for anyone serious about electronic music.

I believe anyone rating this poorly is looking for a pop appeal that you just won't find here, thankfully.

I don't know who Maxine Kubabi is. She's certainly untitled to her opinion. An "ungainly meeting of the sublime and the absurd?" What a sublimely empty and inadequate statement.

You have to know something about a genre before you can be an effective critic inside it. You should be able to specify why you don't like something in some detail, rather than resort to crabby nebulousities ... that's greasy kid stuff.

What Orbit has done is to realize some old, familiar works in an electronic medium, using smooth and musical strokes. He's taken many big chances. Some of them worked out well, others not as well as one might hope. But he deserves kudos for taking a risk and for making some of it work.

Why would anyone who *likes* electronic music complain that it doesn't have live instrumentation? That's like complaining that jazz has no rock and roll in it. "Reverence"? "Second rate Vangelis"? so: you were disappointed that Orbit didn't create more of the kind of schmaltz you personally like. Yanni, anyone?

For those who actually like electronic music, and like Beethoven's Opus 132, please, give that track a listen. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have been a fan William Orbit since Water from a vine leaf and I have to admit while this ins't exactly a electronica per se it is still amazing to see what he has done with our classics. The listening experience depends solely on the listener. More ambient than anything else I have heard though.

If you're looking for something to pop in late at night to dance to...this is not the album. This album is eery and some of it is painful. It's not full of upbeat electronics like originally thought it would be. But, I love it. It's great to listen to while just thinking...relaxing...reading...it's beautiful.

I like music by Darude, Daft Punk, and Benny Benassi and was looking to expand and find new artists. This is a great CD and Ferry Corsten is an amazing artists; I would say realted mostly to that of Darude (Artist behind Sandstorm, Feal the Beat in case you didn't know). Take a listen on Amazon before you buy just to make sure, or check YouTube, a few of his songs have music videos too (Fire, Junk).

Ferry has some great vocal trance tracks that are reminiscent of 80's beats and somewhat dissonant. For those who are looking for something very trance-y, I wouldn't recommend this because it is geared towards a wider audience and is more like pop trance (similar to Oakenfold's CD "A Lively Mind"). If you like vocal trance though, this is an absolute must.

This is some cool stuff. I've been listening to this disc for about 8 days straight now. It keeps going strong, like that pink bunny. This guy is metal. Love the album cover to. You would have to be pure metal to pose like that.

Easily the best CD I have purchased in some time. Corsten takes the Electro vibe and pumps some house beats into it. Right on par with Oakey's and Sasha's original works.

I love this album, Ferry covers a wide range of different styles within electronic music, moving from downtempo to breakbeats, into progressive trance and bumping near-house. Favorites are "L.E.F.", "Fire", and "Forever" on the uptempo side and "Down on Love" and "Into the Dark" for a little more laid back grooves.

I have to say the production quality is terrible. My high school mixed tapes were cleaner and higher fidelity than this album. During the song Lost In Motion - one of the more tranquil, moody tracks - there's a HUGE pop that totally ruins the mood of the song. You'd think if you were going to spend the time and money producing an album, you'd either get better vinyl, or fix the screw-ups in post. And I'm not just talking dust on a record, this is a huge pop like somebody put a fork to the record and plugged it into a high voltage outlet. Not what I expect from a professionally produced trance CD.
Other than that, great compilation.

Next to "Mixed Live"this is Ferry's best mix.This one is slighty better than the first Global Trancemission.Great job with the mixing and track selection.This proves that Corsten is one of the best trance dj's ever and can sure release a sick mix.Dance fans,you gotta have it

When I first listened to the tracks on amazon.com I kinda thought that this was a good CD, and the reviews were good, so I decided to buy it, just for the heck of it. But WOW!!! This is an amazing CD that is on the very top of my trance albums, and will be, for a long time. Both the bass and the trance lines are FLAWLESS.

If you like trance, I am absolutely sure you will like this CD.

Also, just to let you know, the sampler for the music on amazon shows the worst part of the songs, but let me tell ya, there are great trance lines to be discovered.

I recommend the tracks: "Sugar 1 - Yahel", "Eternity - Albi", "Clear Blue Moon - Rising Star", "Please Save Me - Sunscreem vs. Push", "Razorfish - Tranquility Bass", "Drifting - Lange feat. Skye", and "Pocket Damage - Eon". That only leaves 5 other tracks, which are also very good. These are just my favorites.

THIS CD IS WORTH IT.

For those who love pretty trance and vocals, this volume gives you much more of that than we got in Global Trancemissions 1. The reason I'm only giving this disc 3 stars is because it is absolutely PLAGUED by pops and scratches in the vinyl Corsten used to create this mix. What a disappointment.

What makes a good trance CD? Smooth song transitions, building energy levels, compelling synthesizers, occasional inspired vocals, and a careful selection of music that flows so easily into the mind that absorbing it is as easy as breathing.

Ferry Corsten has done it again with this release that, surprisingly, is even better than Global Trancemissions 1. Immediately after purchasing this CD, it assumed a spot near the top of my favored trance mixes. Uplifting, interesting, captivating, reassuring: Global Trancemissions 2 fulfills that hard-to-define list of reasons why trance is my favored form of music. If there is anything on this CD that is less than perfect, perhaps it is hearing scratches and pops during the quiet spots, but then again, this only indicates we are listening to the real thing: vinyl selections with a proven track record from months or years of success on the dance floor.

Until a few months ago, I was very familiar with songs by Gouryella and System F, but had never heard of Ferry Corsten. What a shock it was to me to learn those groups were just aliases for Ferry Corsten. Since that time, I have purchased most everything by Ferry, and this CD (along with the Ministry of Sound Trance Nation 2001) are his best works. Ferry has now assumed the role of world-class trend-setter and will certainly help chart the course of trance into the coming years. Some time from now, Global Trancemissions 2 may very well be regarded as a classic, one of those trance CDs that helped define the entire genre of trance.

Though I'm not the biggest fan of the trance genre, I like to listen to a few trance albums now and again in the hope of finding a gem in the rut. Passport to the United States of America by Corsten is no such gem. Ferry's mixing and editing are always excellent (and is again here), but the tracks featured on this album are ordinary or less than ordinary. This mix has nothing standout-ish about it. After a few listens, I was over this album...another dust collector.

If you are a Ferry Corsten Fan, like I am, you will love this album. Pretty much every track on the CD I like, and I was fortunate enough to see him live on October 5th at Pacha, where he played many of these songs in his fantastic set and it was absolutely amazing... most speakers don't do justice to trance, I would highly recommend going to a club because it just sounds so much better on big speakers

Not a bad compilation. Any true fan can tell this is Ferry's style from a mile away. All the tracks seem to share his unique electronic sound in a subtle manner (especially his beats). But I personally think that Passport: Kingdom Of The Netherlands was his better compilation. There were more tracks on that one that I like. Ferry didn't seemed to put as much effort into this one, seeing that it was only a single disc compilation this time. I'm sure his Euro-domestic version is a double-disc. He compensated by making the second disc a DVD that followed him on his Road To Voodoo Tour of the US, along with the so-called "music video" of Junk (which I was looking forward to seeing, but it just turned out to be continuing footage of one of his concerts). I'm a fan of Ferry Corsten and I really hate to bad-mouth him since he's always done so well in the past, but he kind of dropped the ball on this one (perhaps it's a political statement of what peace-loving Europeans think of the US?). As for the few tracks that I actually liked:

"Late Summer Fields (Deeper Sunrise Mix)" has a nice Chillout sound that works well with its' Trance beat. I dig the piano and the male vocal combination. I don't hear enough of that. It's good to listen to if you're out sailing during Summer vacation. "Beautiful (Original Mix)" is definitely better than the L.E.F. album version because it lasts a minute longer and mixes very well into the next track! Ferry's unique sound really shines through here! This is followed by "Worlds", which is a truly bangin' track! The small hint of tribal beats are mind-blowing! I can see Ferry spinning this track while the floor is full and jumping with party-goers. "The Sunlight (Original Mix)" is a massive track! It reminds me of the recently long heat wave that just ended. I hear a little bit of acid riffs associated with Psytrance in this track. Great song for those who are trippin' out on just about anything. My trip was the brutally hot weather. "Hope (Original Mix)" blew my mind because it mixed in so flawlessly from the last one that the only way I could tell was by looking at track info! Ferry's sound shines once again. Any fan who has at least one of his compilations and.or albums can tell that the sound of this one indicates itself as the last track. It has that "Goodbye, til we meet again" sound to it. Good finish.

I love the CD, but the DVD comes only with the tour video, not the music video (it says it includes a video in the box).

Overall, a nice, smooth, energetic mix by my favorite DJ.

I was disappointed with this album. It is more techy and less melodic and trancey as Passport to the Netherlands and Right of Way. Plus I had already heard more interesting versions of the same tracks elsewhere before I got this. I have faith in Ferry and I think he'll surprise us with another great release in the future. Just not this release...

Great cd for driving music. Compared to Ferry Corsten's other mixes, this one lacks depth and doesn't seem to take you on a journey really. Just lots of catchy epic trance with Ferry's signature sound (of the time), and fairly quick mixes. You can certainly tell that Ferry tweaked the bass and treble, as the bass sounds stupid high in my car (I have to turn the bass down always on this cd), and the treble sounds airy, high, and not normal (treble's not bad actually, I sort of like that effect). Because of this, the midrange is lacking and caved in sounding. Ferry likes to make sure you hear the basslines well.

Some notable tracks are Riva - Stringer, System F - Needlejuice, Starparty - I'm in Love(Ferry Corsten & Robert Smit Mix), and Luis Paris - Incantation Ferry Corsten & Robert Smit Mix). However, I have recently discovered that incantation means magic, or dealing with magic, which is divination. If you're not into that kind of thing, make sure you skip this track. The last track Soul on Soul does not fit in on this cd and is not my cup of tea really. Maybe he thought it would add a little character?

So, buy this cd if you like upbeat, uplifting epic dutch trance complete with JP-8000 supersaw buildups all throughout, and loud bloaty,improportionate basslines. But if you want a mix that has more depth, get Global Trancemissions _01, he actually kinda takes you somewhere on that.

Actually, I don't even know why I wrote this review, it was a total waste of my life. I need the auditory equivalent of sniffing coffee beans after smelling strong perfume I don't care for. I'm going to go listen to some John Coltrane and Theolonious Monk. If you want to retain some of your hearing above 10 kHz when you get older, just do yourself a favor and stop listening to trance, or at least turn it down a little. Have a nice day.

This one is not quite as good as the sequel,Ibiza but like any Ferry mix,it's mixed well and flows good.This album has a few more trance anthems than the second one.It seems as if "the sound of goodbye" is on every trance cd nowadays.There is also one track,"needlejuice"I believe it's called that drags,and basically leads to nothing.My favorite track on here has to be "im in love",it has a bad ass beat to it.Furthermore,if your a dance fan you will get this cd.

Ferry Corsten is now well known for being a AMAZING Trance DJ. But this early CD proves that he HAS been the master for years. This CD is FANTASTIC, if you are not moving while this CD is playing then you should not listen to music!! He ruins it with the last track sadly tho :(. If ur new to Trance/Electronica DEFINETLY check this out.

I must admit that this CD took a bit of getting in to for me. I bought this CD off the back of hearing Ferry Corsten Live at Innercity (my favorite CD of all time, if you can find it) and where that is very chilled and uplifting, this is a lot harder and more energetic. Now I have listened to it a bit more, it has surpassed the great Magik 6 from Tiesto and is now seriously vying for the top spot in my most played list, a title held by Ferry Live at Innercity for the best part of three years. Great work from Ferry, well done!

This CD is truly brilliant. Having heard some of Ferry Corstens Ministry of Sound stuff I always knew he was capable of so much more than that formulaic drivel. I bought this and Global trancemissions 2 on the basis of the reviews I read here and not a dollar I spent was wasted. Both are truly awesome trance CDs that show how brilliant this man is and that DJ Tiesto should be worried about being knocked from his throne.

This review is broken into two reviews: Ferry Corsten and Dance Valley, and no, they are not the same.

First, Ferry is amazing, and always will be. Here he has some great high energy songs and cool remixes (a good remix of his own "Junk"). So as for the music, it's a great album, even though it's just another mix session.

Secondly, Dance Valley is a live event, so there is some idiot MC (Mic Controller) who feels the need to talk after every second song, announcing this, telling us that. It really ruins the album. He just won't shut up.

Not a good album to listen to, which is sad to say because Ferry puts on such a good show. If you want to listen to Ferry's music, I strongly recommend L.E.F., or any other of his mix sessions. But for Dance Valley? I say you should pass if it's priced any more than 3 bucks.

I am a great fan of DJ Ferry Corsten !! I own almost all of his released mixes and artists albums and have seen him perform numerous times in clubs in the US. This is a good CD compilation with some previously unreleased songs for his fans and other pretty awesome mixes of some other well known pieces ... It would have deserved 4.5 starts if it did NOT have the constant, annoying, and completely senseless announcements in the middle of almost every song by some incompetent announcer from the Dance Valley festival ... this interruption and his nonsense completely destroyed the journey for me ! Yuck ! Hey, Ferry why did you let the publishers ruin your recording in such a horrible way ? Why didn't you ask them to remove this stupidity from the mix !! My recommendation is to go and get his other compilation: Gatecrasher Live in Sheffield( Gatecrasher Sheffield ) .. the song selection is superior and gives you an awesome (and UNINERRUPTED by stupidity) journey !!! FULL ON FERRY CORSTEN !!! Ferry is the best DJ with the most awesome, down-to-earth, and friendly attitude towards his fans !! WE LOVE YOU, FERRY !!!

It's the sound from that moment when you enter the club and feel that sensation. The loud bass, sampled with various rhythmic electronic notes. That's what Dance Valley is all about...

The first thing you notice when you pop this little beauty into your cd player is the extra oomph in the kick and bass (I assume this was recorded direct from the stage mixer??). In fact, the overall sound is great for a live recording, with just enough crowd noises for the critical breakdowns etc..

Nice track selection too, I've never really been that excited by Ferry's sound that much, but his electro-tinged trance seems to work really well in the live setting where it sounds bright, fresh and fun. Whilst the mixes aren't overly creative, they are very precise and the set structure bears all the hallmarks of a seasoned pro who really knows what he is doing.

I've given it 4 stars - If you're a fan of the tech/electro/trance sound feel free to add an extra star. If you're a chin stroker and like your electronic music serious, relax, smile and have some fun!

Definately one for car....play it loud!

The first CD of the set is well worth the buy. I do think live CD's are the best though. The first song on CD1 just blew me away. I do have to admit, I don't think the second CD is near the first one though. I would still buy the CD though it's some of Ferry Corstens greatest work for a while, At least since Live from Spundae, if you liked that one you probably will like this CD.

A very fun, energetic mix of music chosen by Ferry Corsten and performed live at Spundae. The disc comes with a 5.1 dvd so you can be fully immersed in the musical experience.

I have owned this cd for many years and I enjoy a lot of the tracks on here.

Its flow is a little bit ackward, 93 returning mix is amazing when used correctly however to start with it, seemed a bit, well bad. It just doesn't flow well to use as an intro track. I will say its the only real downfall to this CD. It has some good track selection and the live feeling makes it that much better.

Ferry knows how to make a place enjoy his mixing, this CD will do its best to bring you to that experience without actually going.

this is pure waste of money. The Bonus DVD is just a few minutes long and it doesn't even show footage of the concert. I was stupid to buy it.

Great Live recording of Ferry Corsten at Club Giant in Los Angeles. Some of the tracks are great and you can hear the energy of the people and place. Also highly recommended is Tall Paul Live @ Giant, another great one.

Certainly a great trance mix, but definitely not Ferry's best as one person mentioned. I really give this a 4.5, but I was very upset the bonus DVD isn't really a DVD at all. It's not a live show of the set, just a stagnant screen that is the album cover and you can select the tracks and play them in 5.1. It sounds great, but the advertisement is misleading.

And 1 copy for $95? Are you kidding me?!?!?! I picked this up at Amoeba music 2 weeks ago (I've had it digitally for a year, I just expected a real DVD) for $6.99. And you want $90 more for a used album with 16 tracks worth of music and some 5.1 remastering on a 2nd disk? Hilarious.
