Ginuwine

In the 1990's there were a plethora of talented male acts for the ladies' listening and viewing pleasure. Most of the talented testosterone of that juncture had great voices, smooth dance moves and were great to look at. Needless to say, women swooned. Ginuwine was one of those men. When his first song, "Pony" was released, a bit of a frenzy occurred, perhaps because the song was so sex-driven or perhaps because the public was so ecstatic to see a new face in the music world. Whatever the case, that was just the beginning for him. He would go on to work with Aaliyah, Missy Elliot and Timbaland and have many hits like "Differences", "In Those Jeans" and "Stingy."

"100% Ginuwine" shows that the man born Elgin Lumpkin was born with a great singing voice. What you won't hear on the album, but will have to see, is the fact that he's a remarkable dancer, too. This album has vast subject matter; that's something that makes this album special. Timbaland beats inundate this piece of work. While I like Timbaland, I feel that this album could have been better if Ginuwine worked with a few other producers but I guess he hadn't heard the phrase "Variety is the spice of life" when creating this album. Most of the music here is mid-tempo. As a unit, I could grant this album just three stars because there was too much filler. The best moments on this album are the songs that were released; those songs were "So Anxious", "What's So Different?", "None of Your Friend's Business" and "Same Ol' G." "Same Ol' G" and "So Anxious" are sheer brilliance and receive five shining stars. In "Same Ol' G", Ginuwine lets the world know that although he's rich and famous, he hasn't changed as a person; he's the "same ol' G." "So Anxious" is classic Ginuwine." In this song, he is paging his object of affection because he is ready for her to come over so that they can get involved in a little immorality. I love the subject matter in "What's So Different?" Ginuwine is telling a woman that he knows she is notorious for cheating and he knows she'll cheat on him because of her past indiscretions. "None of Your Friend's Business" has Timbaland's name written all over it production-wise. This mediocre song is about two people who are in a relationship and the girl's friends are always getting involved. Great subject matter!

Although I give this album three stars, I recommend it for its best moments. Listening to this album is bound to resurface a memory or more and have you dancing and singing along all the while. Not bad.

Ginuwine has always been one of my favorite R&B singers. For many reasons though. One is because he obviously has one of the best voices ever, his vocal range is unmatched. Hes got that silky smooth feel to his voice. Reason two, is because he is extremely consistent. Every album he has put has been at least good (Exept The Bachelor, which most consider his best work). And some of his albums, like this one, are damn near classic music. And reason three, is because he changed R&B forever. While the style he made back in the 90's with his first two albums isnt as popular now, you can see people trying to capture that same style he made with this album and his first one now. Justin Timberlake is an obvious fact now that he is hooking up with Timbaland on his albums. JT is trying to be the new Ginuwine. But i dont think that anyone can make an album as new and fresh as this album was and still is. The futuristic bladerunner type of beats have never been done as well as on this album. The bouncy feel to "Final Warning" to the dreamy but sexy thumper "No.1 Fan", this album is a classic and is one of a kind. It kills me that he moved away from this type of music and stopped making tracks with Timbo. Dont get me wrong, his newer stuff isnt bad, but none of it will ever compare to this epic album. Even on the heartbreaking remake of MJ's "Shes Out of My Life" he out does his mentor. And then there is the more chill baby maker "So Anxious" easily one of the best songs of his career. Basically G really proved that he has mad talent with this album, because while he didnt get a whole lot of credit for this masterpiece of an album, he undoubtedly changed the game.

Ginuwine second album named "100% Ginuwine" follows the bluprint of debut album "The Bachelor" and is almost as good. Tim "Timbaland" Mosley produced this album aswell, and the result shows when one of the greatest producers teams up with one of the gratetest performers. Ginuwine was so popular at the time that he could turn anything to gold. Just like on his debut there is a mix of Uptempo and Slow Jams here and there is also a obligatory cover of one of his hero's, This time around, Michael Jackson. Although "The Bachelor" is slightly better, Timbaland had matured as a producer and was even more innovative here, Infact he penned all songs but 2.

Apart from the first two songs that are interludes, somewhat, it starst for real with song number 3. "What's So Diffrent", a trademark Timbaland song with cool beats and fast pace. The song is about infedelity and has this angry sort of feeling all over it. Not surprising, it became a hit. "So Anxious", a slow jam that also was single released. "None of Our Friend's Business" goes one step further, it's defenitely one of his best ballads with memorable lyrics and great emotion. "Wait a Minute" is a decent midtempo and "I Know" a uptempo love song. "Do You Remember" Once again a slow jam that gioves great balance between ballads and uptempos. "No #1 Fan" a party song, but not among his best songs.

"Final Warning" is continues the trend, but feautures the late Aaliyah that also was a Timbaland protege. The duet could have been better but alright nonetheless. "I'm Crying Out" a midtempo song where a woman is slowly whispering words in the backround. "Two Sides Of The Story", one of his best ballads, unfortunately not a single but very good. "Same Ol'G" a uptempo, is perhaps my favorite Ginuwine song of this album, the song deals with self esteem and being yourslf no matter what people think of you. "All Nite, All Day" is a decent slow jam, perhaps the most seductive. "Toe 2 Toe" is a party jam, nothing special though. The album closes with song 16, that is a cover of MJ's 1980 hit "She's Out Of My Life", Not the easiest MJ song to interpret but Ginuwine makes a good cover out of it.

Overall, Ginuwine makes another great R%B album and at this point he's one of the greatest performers of the game. He and Tim, continues with the same path as on the debut albut and it works just fine. It isn't 100% flawless, but most songs are good and the collaboration between the two should defenitely have continued further. There are a few songs too many (16) but it's a 4'5 to 5 star album nonetheless. If you like good R&B, then get this for sure.

Ginuwine's 1999 effort "100% Ginuwine" marked the last album that he and super producer Timbaland worked together exclusively on, and unfortunately may have effectively removed the six packed, pretty boy crooner from the R&B crowds' collective radar as well. Granted he's released 3 albums since this one. (none of which I've heard in it's entirety) But the days of rampant radio play and association with one of the games biggest hit makers are long gone. Why G made this move is beyond me, but a marked decline in his product and image has been the result. 100% was a fantatstic effort as it marked Ginuwine's growth and maturity as an artist from his slightly flawed but banging debut "The Bachelor".

No question that 100%'s strength as a release lies in the ballads. From the very first one "So Anxious" to "Wait A Minute" (my favorite!) to "No. 1 Fan" you knew that Tim wasn't playin' around with the tracks. G, while never the best singer in the game, delivers in the clutch over each, offering his best work in that department. As for the uptempos? Who cares?? No-one buys a Ginuwine album for those anyway, even though "Same Ol G" is a certified banger. Honestly, G had to know of the imminent fallout resulting from him parting ways with Timbo. While I applaud the need to forge a new path, he may have alienated those who put him where he is now. Now if this new album "Back II Basics" is as nice as I've heard it was, I may be eating these words. Stay Tuned.

this is my thrid copy of this cd, they always seem to get scratched really bad. This album is great, it was Ginuiwine first album out and he did outstanding! From tracks 1-10 is just non-stop jamming. He has great beats, great vocals, and outstanding musical effects to spice it up some. If you like Keith Sweat and R. Kelly then Ginuwine is definately the person that ties in both of their style with his own and he just drop hits. And I have yet to meet a lady that can resist the sound of Ginuwine even if they never heard of him. My props out to "G" and the Bachelor, also I have all of Ginuwine's CD's and this one is the best then "100% G" is the next best.

I agree completely with all the positive reviews already posted about this album. Along with Aaliyah's "One in a Million", Missy's "Supa Dupa Fly" and Timbaland's "Welcome to Our World", this album has introduced (between 1996 and 1997) a new concept of R&B to the worldwide audiences. Actually, i believe that this has been the more meaningful turning point for this kind of music, in the last decade.
During the following years, Timbaland's musical creativity has made him a crossover artist and producer, always capable to amaze us with his unique sounds arrangements. Now we're almost "accustomed" to speak about his talent, but i can say that in the period when all the above mentioned albums was released his trademark sound was a true revolution. It's always a pleasure to hear these albums, even now. Maybe because i'm an huge Timbaland fan, i still think that "The Bachelor" (and the following "100% Ginuwine") are been the best albums of this singer. After these disks, Ginuwine has substantially reduced his collaboration with the original producer...and the final results aren't been always of the same level, unfortunately.
"Tell Me Do U Wanna" is still my favorite Ginuwine's song. Great intro, great arrangements...how you can ask for more?

Ginuwine's debut album from 1996 was a fresh new start for good ol' R&B/Soul when the perfomers both wrote their own music and actually were interesting perfomers. Not since the late 80's we had seen guys that could actually dance and Ginuwine co-wrote most songs and made them very personal and sophisticated aswell. 21 year old Ginuwine was obviously influenced by both Prince and Michael Jackson (And he also covered them both). Timbaland on the other hand was a relativetly fresh producer that had a very unique sound with, awesome samples and frequently used sound loops of his own voice, the music was a mix of contemporary R&B and Hip Hop that also made the music appealing to a broader audience. As other reviewer already pointed out, this album was not only a bluprint for Ginuwine's upcoming album, but also for many other talented Perfomers/Dancers like Usher, Dru Hill and Justin Timberlake and also to talented songwriters like R. Kelly and later Ne-Yo.

"The Bachelor" Got this very fresh sound all over it, something that the R&B world really needed at the time when New Jack Swing was all over the charts but eventually gotten a little tiresome. Ginuwine was also capable of both singing and dancing and both making catchy uptempo's and seductive slow jams. Simple put, he was the Next thing and the record sold extremly well. First single "Pony" is a midtempo with awesome sound loops and very daring lyrics like "If youre horny, lets do it, Ride it, my pony, My saddles waitin, Come and jump on it", It sounded like nothing else on the charts and reminded alot of Prince's most controversial songs. "Tell Me Do You Want It" is an slow jam right on point, ditto with the seductive "Hello" and "Lonely Daze". Great lyrics and sound, one of his best. "Holler" is another uptempo made for the club. "Ginuwine 4 Your Mind" remind me alot of a slower Pony, the samples are quite alike. "Only When You're Lonely" yet another great slow jam. "I'll Do Anything/Sorry a midtempo co-penned by Missy Elliott. "World Is So Could" also feature a sample simular to Pony, this one is also slow. "When Dover Cry" a 90's version of Prince's classic 1984 hit, Pretty damn good and also a hit. "G Thang" is not so interesting, a midtempo that features Missy. "550 What?" closes the album, yet another good song.

Overall, Ginuwine's debut is almost flawless and not only stands as one of the greatest R&B albums of the 90's but also as the bluprint for many other artists to come. It got uptempo's and slow jams and he can both sing and dance and he writes his own music. Now this is just great!. If you are new to him, start here. His first album is the best.

Classic Debut from Ginuwine which is a Must Have!! this is back when him and Timbo were doin there thang which alot of fans miss! hot beats all over and Ginuwine performs some of his best work ever on this, my fav tracks are "Pony" "Tell Me Do U Wanna" "Holler" "Hello" "Lonely Daze" "Only When Ur Lonely" "I'll Do Anything (I'm Sorry)" "World Is So Cold" and "When Doves Cry". all together though this album is a classic and if you ain't got it, you are missing out on some classic 90's G! and i no you ain't gonna pass that up!?

Ginuwine is one of the many talented male vocalists in R&B. This is a good CD for your collection because he has not made any music in quite awhile. Always nice to reminisce with some smooth tunes.

Sorry, I like Ginuwine, but folks at Sony needs to take a drug test for releasing this 'mini' collection disc. After 10 Years, Ginuwine Deserves a BETTER compilation, and SONY funked this up BIG TIME...WITHOUT QUESTION! Ginuwine has been in the R&B game for ten years now and he still has time to grow and secure a place in R&B given the right material. I think Ginuwine needs to hook up with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Ne-Yo, The Underdogs and Sean Garret for his next album. The spread from Ginuwine's first five albums, released from 1996 through 2005, is fairly balanced. While another three or four songs could've been added to the program, it'll satisfy anyone with a moderate interest in one of the more successful male R&B vocalists of the late '90s and early 2000s -- one who handled the club tracks ("Pony," "Hell Yeah"), ballads ("So Anxious," "Differences" and None Of Your Friends Business"). Two blunder were made with the selections on Ginuwine's Greatest Hits. The first is that it doesn't contain "Love You More," a sweet ballad that received a fair amount of play on U.S. radio stations and scaled up to the Top 30 of the R&B chart. The second is the lack of un-released material , rare tracks or new tracks. The set could've easily included Candy Shop, Joy, Take Away and G's Got A Thang For You. Other than that the collection should satisfy.

Ginuwine is one of the greatest and most talented R&B singers of our time, he's had hits that both were Timbaland esque uptempo with catchy beats, midtempos and seductive ballads. He's also a fantastic dancer and it's alot of fun seing his videos. Ginuwine AKA Elkin Lumpkin debuted exactly 10 years ago with "The Bachelor", one of the most important R&B albums to come out in the whole decade and scored big with "Pony" that also reached a impressive #6 position on the billboard charts, and thanks to Timbaland who produced it and also would produce the second album "100% Ginuwine" which almost was as good, Ginuwine continued to be a top notch R&B artist. Third album "The Life" was more mature and showed a grown up and more responsible Ginuwine then ever before, but Timba would only produce one song and some fans would say he went downhill from there. However, the album was strong and gave him another huge hit with the confessional ballad "Differences", One of my favorite songs BTW. "The Senior" had it's fair share of hits and was a grower, but there were too many useless party jams. "Back to Basics" from last year was ok, but didn't give any hit singles at all. After 10 years in the biz, Ginuwine realized it was time for a greatest hits album. This is no essential collection and many songs are missing out, but his 13 biggest hits are included, those are all songs that reached the Billboard charts, However the album does not include European hits and a few others are also missing out. Songs like "Pony" "What's the Difference" "Differences" "Stingy" from Barbershop " So Anxious" "None of Ur Friends Business" "Hell Yeah" and "In Those Jeans" are obviously included, just like "Same Ol G" that wasn't a US hit for some reason but is an exellent song nonetheless. The Nas duet "You Owe Me" that doesn't appear on any Ginuwine album is also here, but no other combos are. Songs that are missing are his cover of Prince "When Doves Cry" a big hit in Europe but didn't chart in US. "Just Because" that wasn't released in US. "Tell Me Do You Wanna" from his first album and strangely the minor hit "Love You More" that actually was on the billboard isn't there either. The list of singles that aren't included here can be much longer, but all songs that charted on the Billboard are included other then "Love You More". The collection isn't for the huge Ginuwine fan, but if you're a casual fan that is interested in his biggest hits in the US this album is more then adequate.

Well this whole album was in my opinion a dissapointment. Because after 100%, i thought that he would stick with Timbo and keep making that bouncy/ hip hop soul that made him famous. But he really shocked people when he released the phenominal, but different "Differences". Because while the song was great, it didnt sound anything like a normal G song. It sounded to normal. It didnt have that unique bounce to it like his previous songs and albums. But i went ahead and bought it anyway because of the Ginuwine fan i am. And while the album definetly wasnt bad because it did have a few gems, it wasnt anything close to 100%. While there were a few standouts in the tracks "Tribute To A Woman" which is reminicent of a R. Kelly babymaker was one, while he brings a different heartfelt story of heartbreak on the amazing "Why Did U Go". And then there is the more blunt sexual song "How Deep Is your Love", which is one of the other standouts, but this is a more up beat sexual song than the others on the album. And then of course there is the huge hit and sure to be love song classic "Differences" which could make anyone want to fall in love. But its the other tracks that really take away from the album like the confusing thug love track "Why Not Me", he should have just left that track off the album. As well as cutting "So Fine" because i was almost embarassed that G made such a garbage song as this one. But overall G still has his perfect vocals intact so the album isnt to intirely bad, he just lost his way for a few tracks.

I really love this album because it really shows how much he has evolved as an artist. I love the way he sounds so passionate when he sings. I love all the tracks on the album. I just put it in my player and walk away no need to skip around.

I remember this album when I was in the 8th grade. This album is a keeper. I played this album constantly and very loud. The Life is telling us where he is from and what he does. The Life comes to him as a person. He reveals a more sentimental side of him. The album features both breathtaking ballads and up-tempo grooves,showing the different sides of Ginuwine. The album shows his true personality. This album has been certified 2x Platinum. Remember,this was 2001. I love this album and first without Tim(except on 1 track).

I like Ginuwine and his music but after hearing this CD I was disappointed. I only liked 4 songs; Why Not Me, Two Way. Differences and Superhuman are really nice. I was just not feelin most of the songs on this album, they were kind of boring. I expected a lot better from this CD. Overall I don't recommend this CD because most of the songs did not capture my attention.

MUST HAVE, this album is perfect and u really cant go wrong with buying this. i luv all the songs on this release apart from maybe a couple of songs which are just average. the majority of the album is a hit!
Fav Songs : "Why Not Me" "There It Is" "2 Way" "Differences" "How Deep Is Your Love" "That's How I Get Down" "Show After the Show" "Just Because" and nice songs i like listenin 2 also are "Why Did U Go" "Role Play" "Open Arms" "Superhuman" and "Two Reasons I Cry". "So Fine" and "Tribute to a Woman" are good but i do prefer the others :)
To wrap up this great CD, im gonna say that "The Life" is a must have! and the songs are very nice and you should not avoid it!

I love this cd. All of the slow except when we make love and midtempo songs were very good. He didn't over sing on any of the tracks as he has in the past. If you take off the club tracks this album can be listen too start to finish. I really loved this album and felt he should have chosen I'm in love as first single and not when we make love. That the only slow song he could have left off. Please don't hesitate to buy this album.

I was never really a big fan of Ginuwine until I got his 100% Ginuwine album, man, that album has gotten a lot of play from me. There were some dull tracks, but for the most part the album was great, especially "Differences" and "Superhuman".

When I heard he was coming out with a new album I was looking forward to it, until I heard the first single "When We Make Love" which wasn't catchy in the least, but rather some cheesy song I'd expect from a 15-year-old Pop artist, not Ginuwine. I got the album anyway, hoping that it wouldn't all be so bad. Thankfully it wasn't.

The first 7 tracks are easily forgettable and most likely will only appeal to people who like 'poppish' R&B. Things start to pick up with track 8, "She's Like", which still isn't great, but it's the first decent song on the album. Next is "Betta Half", the best cut on the whole album followed by a few more strong tracks - "Glaze in My Eye", "Far Away", and "Take A Chance". The others are good, but not great, and probably won't appeal to everyone.

The bottom line is the album is average. It has it's moments, but it's not worth the full price.

Now....I don't own this album....I borrowed it from my sister and my review will be based on 2 songs "Glaze In My Eye" and "She's Like". The reason behind this is because the production is handled by my favorite producers to ever grace hip hop and R&B in my opinion...the Trackmasters(Poke & Tone). At one point back in the mid and late 90's, this duo were the most sought after producers in the game. Amassing a huge resume of hits ranging from LL Cool J to Mariah Carey. Often dubbed as the most radio friendly production team ever....the Trackmasters contributed the same formula to these two tracks that made them household names to begin with. However, no one can dispute the fact that some of the songs that you nodded your head to back in the late 90's were more than likely the lovechild of Poke & Tone. Nuff said!!

This is overall a great album from one of my favorite artists. A bit of a different flavor from his previous works but definitely worth a listen. The album starts off with more upbeat songs and club tracks then slows down after the interlude for some classic G-wine ballads. Very strong production on the whole album as well.

My only dissapointment was that the first single released from the album, "When We Make Love" was probably my least favorite song on the album. The intro and interlude feature an assumingly new artist/producer named Knight and I'm excited to see what he comes out with in the future.

P.S. I thought I'd just throw in that I have really taken a liking to the "Thank You's" track at the end, even though it is not an entire song. Great beat.

Ginuwine's music cd called Back II Basics is great. Ginuwine sings well on this music cd. The Back II Basics music cd by Ginuwine has good music and song lyrics. I really enjoy Ginuwine's music cd - Back II Basics!

I really didnt think this album was as bad as people made it out to be. Maybe its because G is one of my favorite singers ever or maybe its because it really isnt that bad. I tend to think the reason that some people didnt like this album as much was because he changed his style from R&B Loverman to R&B thug. Because i will agree there is alot more thug on this album than his previous work. But in a sense it think it works for him. I mean he is always on other rappers songs. So maybe he just decided to dip a little of that on this album. And its not like the whole thing is thug R&B, because if that was the case i wouldnt even give this a listen. But there is a fair share of thug on it like the chill smoking song "Get Ready" featuring Snoop. I like that song though because it shows a totally different side of G then we are used to. And on top of that he just wails on that song. Then there is the goldigger diss "Chedda Brings", which is pretty much just a mid tempo song telling the tale of the woman after the famous star in G. But he really excells on the mid tempo love tracks like the sexy but still meaningful "Stingy" and the more relaxed "Love You More". And then everyone loved the sure to be baby maker and one of kind sex song "In Those Jeans" which blew up on the radio. The other song that i really liked, mostly because it sounds like something that could have been on 100% Ginuwine with its bouncy and trippy sound is "Bedda To Have Loved". The other reason i liked the song so much is because of the message it delievers is so true... Bedda to have loved, than not have loved at all. Overall i think this is another strong album in G's catalog.

Ginuwine is a very talented artists who isn't getting much credit nowadays with artist like Omarion, Chris Brown, NeYo, and Lloyd getting alot of play but his albums are solid and consistent. Disregarding the first three tracks, the rest of the album is definitely good and when he was in New York with Joe, Avant, and Jagged Edge, his live performance stood out from the rest of them so if you get an opportunity you should definitely see him live.

For the most part, I'm not into the kind of music that Ginuwine, and his contempories make. However, Ginuwine is one of the exceptions. I've purchased a few of his albums, yes I said albums, and he really knows how to put it down. "The Senior," in my opinion, is his best. "In Those Jeans," alone, is an absolute winner, and the rest, of the cuts, are, too, extremely good! I never thought that I would buy anything, by Ginuwine, until I heard "Pony." However, I was wrong, as I have three of his albums, and am now a big fan. Vocally, he's no Tevin Campbell. But, he has a quality, to his voice, that, definitely, makes you want to listen. With one note, you know exactly who it is! And, that, to me, makes him special. To be honest, I used to think that he was just another pretty boy, but, now, realize that I was wrong! As for his new release, as soon as it comes out, it's mine. As for the kid, I wish him continued success!

he did good wit dis album, but his others are much better, pick this up y'all, checkin dis out homie, aint be disappointed, Hell Yeah! annd Sex! are hot

I remember this album when I was in the 10th grade. I love this album. It is as good as The Life album. The album is about Ginuwine's growth. This is his edgier album. This album also finds him continuing to push the envelope. The album is like his senior year. The album also reveals the real him. He graduated with this album. This album has been certified Gold. Remember,this was 2003.

so the reports are true, according to ginuwine himself under his myspace page under the name "ginuwinezone," its not an official Ginuwine release. True indeed he signed off on the release to be distributed in the bay area ONLY to help some up and coming artists. But everything on the album w/his voice were basically rejects from other albums/recording sessions. It was supposed to be titled "ginuwine presents:" but to boost their sales they have ppl thinking its a ginuwine album. true indeed, his last few albums have been far less than stellar & i felt after "the life" he needed some Timbo back in his life. But thats beyond the point i knew there was NO WAY he coulda put out this crap. i didnt buy the CD, but a friend was stupid enough to. I told her the pic looks like old ginuwine from the "bachelor" album and the title writing looks like 100% (all the singles from that era) something just wasnt right. They aptly named it 'i apologize' because whoever did tis owes us all an apology. They just did the opposite 4 all those they were trying to help by being jerks about the situation. And they're going to make it hard 4 anyone else who genuinely wants help from a solidified artists because look at what happens.

Giuwine bombed with his respectable yet overlooked and under promoted last album Back II Basics and a little over a year later he's totally disrespected by some wack DJ with this CD release. Truth be told Ginuwine is only on two songs and neither one really show's G's true vocal talent. Avoid this CD at all costs and if I can offer any advice to Ginuwine for your next CD I would hook up with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, The Underdogs, Polow Da Don and Sean Garret for your next CD.

This Is not an official Ginuwine Album...This Junk Is Garbage,except for that "Like Me" track with Loon.I was very disapointed after this purchase,I suggest you take my word for it and pass this one up on the shelf....

Ginuwine appears on a few tracks but the album is the work of a shady Bay Area producer that has misused Ginuwines name to make money.

This is not an official Ginuwine release. Most of these songs do not feature Ginuwine. The songs that do feature Ginuwine are songs left over from the "Back To Basics" studio sessions.

Some guy is trying to pass this off as a Ginuwine album and its quite obvious with old photograph and the dated logos used from "The Life" project that this is not authentic.
