A statement by Nancy Wilson expressed her feeling as "being fu*ked over" having their song used at the Republican Convention in St. Paul because she does not share the same views as the Republican Party. The same also goes for John Mellencamp, Jackson Brown and Boston. REPUBLICANS LET'S KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF ANY OF THIS MUSIC IN THE FUTURE. OUR MONEY IS NOT WELCOME HERE. I think there are still some that would be happy to have all people play and enjoy their music. Most people just didn't assume or care that the Wilson sisters were in anyway supporting the McCain Palin ticket when hearing the song, so why make people hate you now Ann and Nancy. Take your O-balla and go home. About this CD, who knows? I wouldn't buy your music now!

The sisters are so much better live in concert. They haven't aged a bit. I saw them at the Oregon state fair 2007. What an awesome, flawless performance.......Tanya

This collection is great - it has all their best songs, I listen to it over and over, and never get sick of it!!

This covers Heart's entire catalog--some may favor the older songs, some may like the newer ones, but we think the entire collection is great. If you like Hart we believe you with like this disk

For any Heart fans out there this is the CD for you. It has all their greatest songs and many more. It is 2 disc's of great music. I would recommend this CD to anyone who is looking for all the good songs on one album.

I received the Heart CD on time. It was like brand new. Heart is one of my favorite groups from the 80's era. I enjoy listening to them.

Very good CD, had all the songs I was looking for and was cheaper than the newest Heart CD.

Its a great Album!!! I've already DL to my I-pod nano. My fav. songs or I listen the most are "Never", "Nothin'At All", "Stranded" and few others songs as well. Heart You Rock!!! and They're Hot!!

Being a long-time Heart fan, it infuriates me when bands/artists that have been around for awhile (at least 20 yrs) churn out these "Greatest Hits" collections that only have half of the good songs from said time period with a bunch of fillers. Who decided the song list for this album, please?!? Where are "There's the Girl," "Bad Animals", "Secret",
"I Love You," "Almost Paradise" etc.??? Heart has released at least 3 different 'Greatest Hits' albums that I know of, none of which include all of their great songs. So many good songs were omitted from this album that I would NOT recommend it to any die-hard Heart fans. Until Heart comes out with a TRULY cumulative box set (that includes the previously mentioned songs AND "Sweet Darlin'" from the early years) this consumer & Heart fan will continue to be disappointed & will probably end up buying all of their old albums on CD anyway. :(

Heart was one of my favorite groups from the past. The sisters always amazed me with their vocal and guitar solos.

Here is a great buy that can be found for usually less than $10.00. If you, like myself just wanted a short summary of the early years (before MTV) this is it. All of the Heart classics on one CD without the 80's radio friendly ballads.
Magic Man, Crazy on You, Barracuda, Kick it Out, Love Alive, Dog and Butterfly, Even it Up, Straight On, mostly the guitar oriented stuff and including Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll. The song list reads like a tribute band's song list. If you like me, don't want to shell out over $20.00 for a compilation this is it.
It doesn't contain everything they ever did but only the highlights, the guitar oriented songs. I don't need a compilation that takes over 2 hours to get through. I just want to hear "Barracuda" once in a while without the filler from those days.

I love Heart, and nearly all of the songs on the CD are the original favorites. But Dreamboat Annie has always been my favorite Heart song and the version on this CD is a slower version than the familiar one I grew up listening to on the radio. I wish I had read Amazon's reviews before purchasing this CD because others have expressed disappointment about Dreamboat Annie as well.

I have always enjoyed the dynamic voicings of the Wilson sisters and am trying to build a collection of my favorite Rock and Roll CDs before CDs become extinct. This album is in my TOP 15 of all time greatest.

This compilation is about what is expected. Heart had some big hits and good music, but they also had some lesser-known works and mediocre music. This compilation contains both. Heart's basic song construction and strong vocals make for good "work-out" music.

If you'd like to have a female Led Zeppelin band, then Heart is for you. This is a great hard rock album. The songs "Magic Man", "Crazy on You", "Sing Child" are fantastic like all of the songs. The only trouble is the song "Dreamboat Annie" which is three times in the album. Still, if you love 70's hard rock sound, then "Dreamboat Annie" is for you. It's maybe their best album. Those two girls really had a great influental affection for fem-rock. This music has a heart and a soul!

This is Heart at its best - a great rock and roll album. This one belongs in every true rock fans' CD collection. White Lightning & Wine is a GREAT tune, worth the cost of the record by itself.

The first and best Heart album. This is an essential and must own album for any fan of rock music.

I remember when "Magic Man" hit the airwaves, I was so impressed that I went out & bought the album. The Wilson sisters from Seattle did not disappoint. "Magic Man", at the time, was a radical departure for a lead female vocalist. As the Wilson sisters were so fond of saying, "We rawk!" This was an impressive debut from the group. They did three different versions of "Dreamboat Annie", albeit each subtly different. "Crazy on You" was the other hit from this album though it didn't chart as well. "Crazy on You", in my opinion, was just as good as "Magic Man". What set it apart was the acoustic intro, Nancy was an excellent rhythm guitarist. Ann had the killer voice that could gravitate from soft to harsh in a second, a very gifted vocalist. Other great songs on this album include "White Lightening and Wine" & "Sing Child".

Heart could do ballads and rock hard. They have been compared to Led Zeppelin, even called "the female Led Zeppelin". I'm not sure who propagated this myth but Heart didn't do anything to disprove it. They wholeheartedly covered Led Zeppelin songs. I'm not familiar with them before they hit it big but did see them in concert about the time the album Magazine was released. They put on a great show but they didn't do any Led Zeppelin songs. Since that time, however, they have released two Led Zeppelin songs that they covered: "Rock and Roll" & "Stairway to Heaven". It's even been claimed that one song from their second album "Dream of the Archer" was a complete appropriation of the Led Zeppelin song "The Battle of Evermore". Certainly there are some similarities. But the comparison to Led Zeppelin was an unfair one. Ann had the vocal ability to match Robert Plant but the rest of the group weren't on the same talent level of Led Zeppelin. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed Heart, they were a group that was capable of many styles & they did them well.

For a long time this has been my favorite Heart album. It's their mellowest from their early era. Side 2 of the vinyl edition just blew me away, this would be songs five through eight for those unfamiliar with that format. I hadn't owned this album in many years until I got this remastered edition. At first I didn't see why it was my favorite Heart album but upon repeated listenings it's the four songs "Dog & Butterfly", "Lighter Touch", "Nada One" & "Mistral Wind" that really impress me. "Mistral Wind" is one of the best 'mood' songs ever done by anyone. All four of the songs are mellow but "Mistral Wind" has some passages that get heavy.

Ann Wilson is one of rock's greatest vocalists, her gifts are showcased here brilliantly. "Cook with Fire", the opening track, is the hardest rocking song here. The hit "Straight On" is great, maybe not as memorable as "Magic Man" & "Barracuda" but it holds its own with those two classics. "Hijinx" is somewhat funky, very enjoyable. The weakest song on here is the title cut. Many people don't consider this album to be as good as their first two but I disagree. Heart made a conscious effort to be mellow here & somewhat distance themselves from the comparison to Led Zeppelin.

The cd has three bonus cuts "A Little Bit", "Feels" & a live version of "Heartless" which originally was from the album Magazine, many don't consider Magazine to be a 'true' Heart album because it's mostly demos that Mushroom Records released due to Heart's new-found fame. "Heartless" was the best thing from that album & a hit in its own right. Though I'm glad it's here, it doesn't thematically agree with the mellow tone of the original album. Enjoy Heart's last album with their classic lineup of musicians, with Bebe Le Strange changes were happening within the group that would start leading to personnel changes that would hinder the group for a few years.

The live "cook with fire" is worth the price. Anne Wilson has the sexiest voice in Rock. Everything on this record is excellent. You should really check out their entire catalog. Still love these women.

It took me a few listens to fully appreciate "Dog & Butterfly"; at first it seemed too bluesy and eclectic compared to their other records. But after a few listens it really grew on me, and now it's one of my favorite Heart records.

"Cook With Fire" is arguably Heart's toughest-rocking opening track, and they had QUITE a few of those, believe me. I really like their decision to make this track a live performance rather than a studio recording - it increases the energy and intensity of this track tenfold. Nancy Wilson "plays a rippin' harmonica(!) on this song.

Next is "High Time", with a bouncy rhythm that anticipates the sound of "Bebe le Strange", their next record.

"Hijinx" is an sly little blues ditty, but seems to be missing something.

"Straight On" is one of Heart's signature tunes; listen to the sample if you've never heard it before. If you don't like it, don't bother with this record and abandon any hope of ever calling yourself a Heart fan.

"Dog & Butterfly", the title track, is probably Heart's most heartfelt song (pun not intended I swear). Just listen to the lyrics; they're warm, melancholy, and metaphorical all at the same time. It's also one of the few songs that has made me cry. This version is quite good, but I prefer their live version of this song from "The Road Home".

"Lighter Touch" is a typical Heart depth cut, laid-back and soothing, but there's nothing particularly special about it. Ditto for "Nada One". You'll either love them or skip over them while listening to this CD.

Then there's "Mistral Wind". This is about as close to "Stairway to Heaven" as Heart ever got. "Mistral Wind" is absolutely epic, capturing the two moods of lying on a boat in a period of calm and then getting tossed around by a sudden tempest. It's an allegory for falling in love. The lyrics to this track are truly poetic and smack of Robert Plant. It's my favorite song on this CD and probably my favorite Heart track from this period in their careers.

This CD remastered edition features three bonus tracks - a live version of "Heartless" and two studio outtakes. The live version of "Heartless" isn't that different from the studio version on "Magazine", just roughed up a little. "Feels" is a great song, probably an earlier version of "Johnny Moon" (from "Passionworks"), judging by the chord progression. "A Little Bit" is just an acoustic guitar ditty.

With "Dog & Butterfly", Heart begins to move away from the folk-rock of their earlier albums and towards a more blues-rock sound. It's not flawless, but it's one of the better albums out there.

Only a few songs stand out to me on this CD, and that's everything past, and including, "Dog and butterfly". These are some beautiful songs. I started listening to Heart during their big-haired glam 80's days, so I had to travel back to appreciate this CD. And while I prefer the pop-synth 80's variety of Heart, "Dog and Butterfly" does have it's charms as well.

Of course now Dog & Butterfly is a rock classic, but in 1978 the Wilson sisters wanted to keep doing what they love and make a record that was significant in their career. They achieved their accomplishment with an idea to create an album that was half melodic and half cut your teeth Rock'n'Roll. Besides the radio hit "Straight On,"(#18 on the singles chart)they made an album that brims with sophisticated imagery and melodies that visit both camps on many of the songs. My favorite tracks would be "High Time," the Zeppelinish "Mistral Wind," and the title track, which is a masterpiece of a song as it combines string acoustics with Ann's poetry and fades into a serene backdrop of sound effects. A significant piece of the band's history was the end result, and as Ann Wilson said several years back during an interview on the Bravo network, "It was a bottleneck time because Creem magazine was starting to write about us and we had a Rolling Stone cover or two, and there was the question of women being relevant to rock and women being credible in rock. They weren't sure about us, and so that album really was the one where we felt like we had to push. We had to prove ourselves."

While this album certainly isn't the same music Heart was known for in the 70s, it brought them back into the music spotlight and brought new fans. Some people who like to act self important wanna call this type of change "selling out", but look at all the other bands of the past who refused to change - most of them are nowhere and forgotten. Very few bands of that era have a sound that maintains through time. Put "bands of the 70s" in your search browser and see what comes up. There's maybe 5 bands on that list that continued to produce music successfully thru the 80s and 90s. And Heart is one of them. When it comes to entertainment, if you wanna survive, you gotta give the fans what they want. And that's what Heart did on this disc and a few more after this.

Heart's self-titled album is not Heart's first one. Their first album was "Dreamboat Annie". However, after about 10 years these two women release one of their best albums. The opening song "If Looks Could Kill" is really rocking and after that there's many great songs, and you could almost say that this is an ultimate fem-rock album...but then the ninth track "What He Don't Know" proves to be so basic rock. The ballads "These Dreams" and "Nobody Home" are great ones, as well as "What About Love", "The Wolf", "Shell Shock", "All Eyes", and "Never" which are great classic rock songs. "Nothin' at All" has great "echo sounds" which were later copies by The Corrs. This is a great hard rock album although not so similar to "Dreamboat Annie".
Stars: What About Love, If Looks Could Kill, The Wolf

It sounded like everything else from the 80's - overblown synthesizer ballads. I got my first job in a restaurant in the early 80's and remember hearing this on the radio (in the employees only area, that is)
I graduated high school in '77 just as Dreamboat Annie became a big hit and thereafter I purchased Little Queen and Magazine. I liked the vocals and the guitar parts, kind of a female Led Zeppelin (they are the only band that should be legally allowed to cover Led Zeppelin). By the time I got my job in the restaurant Heart had become just another MTV band, which is not to say that they were bad, it's to say that MTV was and still is bad.
The 80's attracted a lot of criticism of this kind and I didn't feel like paul parroting what's already been said: That MTV videos are choregraphed to death much like the music and that it lacks any individuality or personality.
I picked up a copy of this on CD just recently to learn "If Looks Could Kill" for a band. Couldn't stand to listen to the rest of it and then I remembered why: as a restaurant employee, grateful to have a job, it seemed silly to complain about the background music and if we were really busy it was easy to ignore the radio altogether!
They sold out (sort of) but at least it looked like they succeeded and who could blame them if it sells records? Glam it up and get rid of the hippie girl look from the 70's.
It was indeed easy to ignore and that's the problem. Nothing really gets your attention one way or the other. It's great background music shows signs of maturity all of which has it's place in the world but...it's been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely, lonely lonely time. (Hint Hint)

I liked this album since it debuted. The radio stations in Chicago played the hell out of the singles. 9 good songs. The only one I didn't care for is " What He Don't Know".

Ann was gaining alot of weight around this time and in the video's her body is blocked by props on stage or the camera zooms in for jsut head shots of her singing. She's still got a strong, powerful voice.

One of my favorite things from the 1980's was the synth-heavy pop-rock of Heart. Wow, how I love this album. Chock full of that classic 80's lite rock sound, with fantastic Ann and Nancy Wilson vocals. All around great stuff.

Not considered classic country and surely not new country this occupies an excellent mid era that encompasses such artists as Doug Stone, Hal Ketchum, Deana Carter and many more.

Compilation of a group that produces harmony and lyrical genius that anyone can enjoy, i must admit this takes me back to a younger and simpler time and never fails to provide enjoyment.

If you aren't a fan of this mid range country you may still enjoy some of these songs and its worthwhile to listen.

This album contains many of Restless Heart's greatest hits, such as "Back to the Heartbreak Kid," "I'll Still be Loving You," "That Rock Won't Roll," and "Long Lost Friend." I agree with another review;RH isn't a traditional country group, but when you listen to this album, you can see why they were so successful. All the songs are remarkable, and the group has great vocal harmonies. Get this album if you get the chance. I'm glad I did.

I totally agree that Restless Heart sounds like Little Texas. Too funny...but I have always found I confuse their music.
Anywho....this is a great compilation CD. Restless Heart has some great tunes on here that I had totally forgotten about. From the hit That Rock won't roll- which just makes you want to dance, to the most touching of songs like Long Lost Friend with the sharp piercings sounds of heartbreak. Dancy's Dream has always been a favorite of almost anyone who is a RH fan, and it includes the sweet I'll still be loving you.
There are a whopping 16 songs on the CD with very little filler. There were songs here i never realized belonged to them, or had forgotten all together- like Why does it have to be wrong or right....what a fun song!

Can anybody explain how "Til I Loved You" got left out of this compilation? Where is "Wheels"? I think "Mending Fences" would have made more sense than the inclusion of the last two songs. Save your money and download the tunes you want from elsewhere - this cd isn't worth the price, and is hardly all of Restless Heart's greatest hits.

I really wouldn't classify Restless Heart as a typical country group. Let's face it, when I hear the name "Restless Heart," I don't categorize them with country staples such as the Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, or even Alabama. I do see them fitting in somewhere along the lines of Little Texas and the Desert Rose Band, however.

This album is a great compilation for the casual fan and the hardcore Restless Heart listener. It includes all of their biggest radio hits like "The Bluest Eyes In Texas," "I'll Still Be Loving You," and "Why Does It Have To Be." It bridges the time when Larry Stewart was in the group to the time that he was out of it. The biggest hits minus Stewart are here("When She Cries" and "Dancy's Dream"). For some reason, "Mending Fences" is left off of this compilation, but I'll live.

I managed to see this group minus Stewart a few years ago when they were supporting their "Big Iron Horses" album. They were excellent. Their appeal was evident in the crowd that night, what with everyone from cowboys to preppies and even a few bikers roaming around.

Restless Heart was one of those groups who just played their own style of music. It wasn't really country, but then again, it really wasn't adult contemporary either. They snuggled up to both crowds and did it without changing their style. They didn't become popsters like Faith Hill because it brought in more money. They didn't have to change because they believed in their own music. That's a rare quality in the country scene these days, and I commend them for sticking to their guns.

Get this album if you enjoy groups like Little Texas, Desert Rose Band, maybe even the Eagles. Also, I think Diamond Rio and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fans can appreciate these guys as well. Check them out.

This is a fine followup to Dreamboat Annie. Even though their second album was "Little Queen," these songs were recorded in between the two, except for the live songs, which were sort of pre-fame, I think.
"Devil's Delight" alone is worth the price of the CD, but the whole album was fantastic, from start to finish. This shows Heart while they are still an idealistic young band, before they became such a worldwide phenomenon.
They were really hard rockers back then, with a huge Zeppelin Jones going on. That they could always throw in a beautiful, sweet acoustic moment such as "Here Song" is a testament to the true musical talent these ladies and their bandmates showed, and continue to show to this day.

Like they say, Heart is the female version of Led Zepplin. You can't love rock n roll without loving Heart. It's a shame there was no male version of Led Zep. in the US.

I have to wonder why Heart even bothered to make their "own" version of Magazine. I found a copy of the original Mushroom version in (what was then West) Germany in 1980 (and I found it strange they didn't wrap their LPs in cellophane, like in the US), and later found the "official" version released by Heart.

I always got the impression that the changes made for the "official" version were made simply for the sake of change. This version is OK, but the (for lack of a better word) magic was gone. Heart would continue to put out good albums afterwards, and really should have let this one go.

I won't go into all the drama that was behind this album because many have already spoken to it. Let's just say this is a classic 1970's rock album. Magazine, Heartless, Without You, Here Song, Just The Wine and Devil Delight are killer songs and Ann Wilson is simply the best rock vocalist that ever lived. The live tracks are fun and show how Heart could go from pop (I've Got The Music In Me) to blues/rock (Mother Earth Blues) without missing a beat. If you are into classic rock, get this gem!

Heart are such a classic in every since of the word. Every song they recorded in the 1970's were simply put, MASTERPIECES!

You had to be there. You had to go into (K-Mart, it was for me) and buy that album with the disclaimer from the band on it. Only to return later and buy the album over after the band approved.

Heartless and Devil Delight are perfect! Magazine is almost as good as Mistral Wind. Just The Wine and Here Song: great ballads with exceptional playing. Without You does the song justice and the live tracks are COOL!

Takes me back to the days of 80's metal. Excellent Vocals,with some screaming added in. A perfect ballance. I am very impressed ,with the vocals,music,the whole package. If your a fan of 80's metal, I highly reccomend this cd. You wont be dissapointed.

this band is really awesome and have established their very own sound that no one else has. there is truly no other band like this, great cd!

love this CD! One of the most fun discs I have ever heard. Great to work out to, great to drive to, great for a pick-me-up. It is so fresh and just good plain fun. And if you are looking for some great music to work out to...look no further! This group is one of the most unique, awesome, different bands I've ever heard! The only bad part about this album is the looks you will get from other people while your rocking out in your car! Seriously, this album is classic.

this album is amazing for what it is. It is 80s style rock mixed with hardcore. Which makes it a heavy album but with many catchy choruses and amazing guitar solos. The band is very silly theyre corny and tacky they even dress up 80s style but thats what this is all about FUN. They are sorta like old Avenged Sevenfold before they sold out but with a huge 80s influence. Their guitarist Shred Sean is absolutly amazing he is definitly on road to being the next Yngwie if not already. Just go to their myspace and give em a listen and see what you think. If you do decide to purchase the album i would suggest going to Hot Topic where they have the album with 3 extra bonus tracks. Who knows they might just be your new guilty pleasure?
