Juanes

I simply love Juanes. I've been listening to him since Fijate Bien & he just always seem to make a good album. Sometimes a few of his songs tend to sound a bit the same on past albums, but on La Vida.. he strays from the usual. I liked the slow, intense ballads & continue to adore him.

I have to say, I've been a fan of Juanes' since I first heard "Nada" on MTV en español years ago. It's been absolutely amazing watching him grow as an artist, and as a fan, I feel privileged to have been a part of that. When I first heard this album, I wasn't sure about it. I felt it lacked the charm of Mi Sangre, the passion of Un Día Normal, and the fire of Fijate Bien. But the more I listened to it, and after seeing him perform his songs live, I fell deeply in love and the veil was lifted from my eyes. Me Enamora, which I had instantly liked, fell to the wayside. It's easily the weakest song on the album. If you want fun, there's Gotas de Agua Dulce. If you've had your heart broken and need to scream, there's Dificil. If you want to dance while washing the dishes, there's Tres. La Vida es Un ratico is reminiscent of Un Dia Normal in message and tone, but it's far more heart rending. Maybe it's the knowledge of the pain in Juanes' personal life that gives this CD more heart and soul, but while I respect and love his earlier CD's, I feel like this album was born of his sweat, blood, and tears. It's going to be hard to top.

Love this albulm too, it is mixed with great beats and lyrics. Juanes won't disappoint you and the bonus is that there is a great message in his music.

Juanes is something of a phenomenon. Who would have thought that the little metalhead boy from colombia would have the vision to break up his competent if not spectaular Metallica like band and then put out four consecutive 5 star Colombian rock albums? Who knew that he could write from a deep well of sensitivity--not only anger, pain, joy, encouragement, and love, but optimism too? Who knew that his guitar skill were so insinuating that they would worm their way into your unconscious so that each delicious guitar line seems to be the soundtrack to your life? Anyone that heard "Fijate Bien" probably thought it was a great album by a little boy who may or may not have any longevity. Then he blew away Fijate with the gigantic Un Dia Normal. Mi Sangre proved that he had completely grown up, and now he takes us so far beyond with Un Ratico.

The first song, No Creo en Jamas, is simply one of the best songs I have heard, English or Spanish in years. I am humming or singing it all the time. The heart of the album is his incredible title track, which seems so amazing that he has perspective that he does. I don't know how best to describe how music that is so encouraging, so beautiful, so touching is also musically so darn good! No cheese here! Pure invention, fantastic rockers, all with Colombian traditional backbone making them stronger.

Juanes is incredible. He deserves all 17 Latin Grammy's that he has won, and I am certain that he has a ton more left to win. But even if he never put out a single song again, his musical legacy is secure with this spectatular album. If you are a Juanes fan, then you probably already own this album. High five. If you are a fan of Rock en Espanol but have somehow had your head buried below ground for the last several years, look for further than Juanes. Buy everything he has without fear. If you are an English only speaker who is even the tiniest bit open to music in Spanish and you are a fan of rhythmic, well sung, well played, well constructed Spanish Rock, then put down that Mana album and buy this!

For those who don't know Juanes or his music: This is really good stuff. I'm not into Latin Music, generally. I love this CD. I bought it for the first track- A Dios Le Pido- GREAT song, btw- and was surprised to find the rest of the songs were just as good! It's the only CD I don't skip tracks on- I like all of the songs. Really a rare experience. Intricate guitar playing, great vocals, variety- each song is unique. Lyrics are wonderful- get the translations off the internet- topics range from love to the societal problems of his native Colombia (he has his own foundation for giving back to the country and providing humanitarian aid). It's poetic, interesting, deep, and fun- very enjoyable listening. There isn't anything out there quite like the sound of Juanes.

Loved it the first time I listened to it and love it more and more each time I hear it again. My kids love it just as much as I do. It's become our traveling music. You'll love it to when you decide to get your own.

This was the only album in our condo in Mexico, and we listened to it over and over. I like Latin music anyway, and this was a great option. We ordered it to listen to at home, and it takes us back to our beachside paradise.

I have a weakness for Spanish music and this man is no exception. He makes me feel like he is singing only to me.

I have bought this CD along with 'undia normal' after listening Juanes on PBS's Austin City Limits. I love two songs from this album especially: la camisa negra and damelo. There are few other great tracks as well, but overal I enjoyed more the'undia normal' CD. You can buy the tracks you like separately, but I wanted to have the CDs in my collection. This album, as a whole could be better, but I don't regret getting it as these CDs make a great beach or party companion.

I really enjoyed this CD. He has an outstanding voice and it was a pleasure to listen to.

Juanes, hitherto unkown in the United States, has shown that Spanish-language, and non-American at that, artists can make just as much a splash on our charts as anyone. This award-winning album is nice cross section of Juanes's talents as a musician.

After reading other reviews for Juanes albums this will not come as a shock to anyone that listens to his music as always he is totally BRILLIANT nothing that he writes is bad.This particular album i have found represents Juanes in true fashion a brilliant musician and a poet of a song writer.I could not pick out one song that is my fave as they all are and are all equally uplifting.My advice to anyone would be to purchase this album as you will not be dissapointed even if you do not speak or understand Spanish you will understand what Juanes is singing about as it comes form the heart and soul.

I already loved the album, but now it has 2 new songs extra.
The live part (en vivo) reminds me of the 2 concerts I visited this year. The DVD is just an extra gift. I only watched it one time. But is good!

For me, Juanes is the best artist of the year, also in live performance.
The price/quality-relation is o.k..
I just would like have had more live grabations.
Unfortunately there are no live-grabations as DVD.
But all around i'm happy with this product.

This album is a bit more serious than his other two, but I still love it.

This was the album that preceded Juanes' "Un Dia Normal," a CD that truly reached audiences from all backgrounds through the Latin Grammy show and into other venues, as well. "Fijate Bien" (Watch Carefully) is a cautionary, sensitively written and well-performed album that really gives us a sense of Juanes' profound ability to write songs that really speak to the heart--not just about love, either. I get a sense that he was leaning more toward a rock sound than the latin fusion that we have heard in his last two albums ("Un Dia Normal" and "Mi Sangre"). There are still generous doses of cumbia-inspired elements ("Fijate Bien" in the bridge part, toward the end of the song), as well as the very latin, syncopated hooks ("Para Ser Eterno").

What I enjoy most about the album is the fact that Juanes isn't afraid to take himself seriously an artist and performer. Many of his songs address social injustice, sensitivity and consciousness in a world that can be cold, violent and narcissistic. I am glad that we have one artist to inspire us and also lead us with strength and grace, like we do in Juanes. He is definitely one great example of much of the beauty, versatility and innovation that exists in the contemporary music of Colombia. Muchas gracias, Juanes.

Juanes sings bea-u-ti-ful!!!!!!! This cd and his other cd "Un Dia Normal" are both very good! He is very talented!

Here is what I have to say about "Fijate Bien", I love it to death. Seriously, it is one of best CD's I own, without the exception of Shakira, and Mana CDs. I don't know about you, but my fave song is "Fijate Bien". I went through a lot of mess-ups to get this CD and now I know it was completely worth it.
Viva Juanes!

Let me start by saying that I have both albums and I have a hard time deciding which is my favorite. I love them both I love the folklore of the music and the truth but sad reality of which some songs speak of. I am amazed by the honesty and spirituality and maturity about life that Juanes transmits in his songs. Some speak of love others of the crude reality of the world that we live in but it offers hope as well. It does not matter if you are Colombian or not anybody can indentify whith what the songs are relating to the listener. I hope that God blesses Juanes with more songs so we can enjoy them.

If ever there was an artist with an uncanny ability to evoke emotion through his vocal styling, it is Juanes.

This limited edition is a steal! The cd is incredible - we played it 3 times through at almost full volume the first time I put it in the cd player. WOW!

Juanes never ceases to amaze this is a wonderful collection of songs and with the added bonus of a few videos and interview you can't go wrong. This is a must buy for any Juanes fan and I highly recommend it!

I'm a BIG fan of Juanes so obviously I'll say that its really good. But the truth is that this is the WHOLE "Mi Sangre" CD except for the live songs that he sings (which are really good), but like somebody else said, they should have released the CD with the DVD live, COMPLETELY, not just three songs. Oh well... If you buy it, I really hope u enjoy it as much as me.

P.S.: Juanes has a great voice and he really knows how to put a good show, so if you have a chance to go see him in concert, I recommend you do that, its worth it.

This limited "tour edition" is a re-issue of the "Mi Sangre" CD. If you already have the "Mi Sangre" CD, the only thing new that you'll get are seven extra songs and a DVD video. If you're a hardcore fan of Juanes, this might be a worthwhile purchase even if you already have the "Mi Sangre" CD.

I think labeling this CD as the "tour edition" is misleading. There are four "live" songs on this CD which are pretty good so I can't understand why they didn't release a completely "live" CD.

The three videos on the DVD are MTV-type music videos. Again, I would have preferred live footage from his concert.

Hopefully, the next time Juanes' label puts out a "tour edition," they'll make it 100% live.

Juanes ha demostrado que es un artista con mucho que ofrecer y con una energia y alegria contagiable. la vida es un ratico es una produccion madura y solida. Juanes no trata de quedarse en el paso pero mantiene un cordon umbilical con su estilo musical que le da continuidad a este trabajo. Como artista tiene que decidir si se entrega a la maquinaria promocional y mantener siempre la misma linea musica o si aprovecha su talento e innova en la musica y en la interprestacion de la guitarra.

I was really looking forward to this release. Un dia normal and Mi Sangre had really catchy melodies, excellent guitar parts and good rhythm. I had to listen to this CD 3 times before I started liking 3 of the songs. For my taste, the vocal melodies aren't as good as the first two CDs. But, I'm a huge Juanes fan, so I would have gotten this CD either way.

This is typical Juanes. You can't stop listening to it and it makes you want to go back and listen to his other CDs too. If you love Spanish and you love good music, you can't beat Juanes. He and John Mayer would make a great duet. I hope they get together and develop a few songs. WOW! You wouldn't be able to beat it.

Juanes is a real true force in the Latin market, and this album proves it.All the songs are great, and the singing and arrangement are fantastic.Juanes wrote all the song. This man is very talented.I seen him already three times in concert and he never dissapoints.This is a must have in your collection especially to those fan of Rock en Español. I really enjoy it alot. I hope his new album is as good as this one.

I bought this CD because I wanted to hear more of this wonderful singer who sang with Tony Bennett on his new Duets CD. I am enjoying it, especially a few cuts...but find his rhythms repetitious and wish he would record more ballads, or at least songs with a different pace. His band, especially the percussionist, doesn't do him justice.

Although each cut is in Spanish it is still a beautiful cd. He has a great voice. Once his English gets better he will be big here.
