Opening with the bullish 'Empire', which is a storming anthem very much in the same vein as the debut album, Kasabian set themselves above the average English rock band early on. The album highlight, 'Shoot The Runner', reasserts this, a four minute blast of wonderful 60's esque dance rock.
'Last Flight' keeps the feel good mood going, an adequate, VERY British piece of pop. 'Me Plus One' is an incredibly dull song, and an inexplicable choice for a single,but 'Sun Rise Light Flies' breaths fire back into the album.
Apnoea and By My Side plod by without leaving much of an impression before 'Stuntman', a devastating, bass driven, monster of a song.
The record mellows out there after, firstly with the surprisingly pleasant 'Seek And Destroy', then with an acoustic number, British Legion.
Album closer, 'Doberman' is an epic finale. It begins slowly before exploding into a Spaghetti Western soundtrack style jam, a truly triumphant climax to a solid album.
If you want the big tunes, then buy the first album, where they are in far greater numbers. Empire, however, has far less filler and is a more durable listen. If Kasabian can carry on in the same spirit, then album number three has the potential to reach the heights that the band so clearly crave.

This CD is exactly why I don't go buy CDs at the store. So I was at Best Buy buying a new cd and saw that Kasabain came out with a new cd. Since I bought their last one aroud the time the Killers came out and seeing as THEY were able to come out with a good sophmore album, I took the plunge.

Stupid stupid stupid. Why did I stray from my usual, "check out the reviews on amazon first, then buy" philosophy that has worked out for so many years!?!

This is a lackluster follow up at best. It's o.k. but the songs just all sound so vanilla compared to their first album.

Most reviewers that own the first album are right on when reviewing this album. I think it should get 2.5 stars.

Sun Rise Light Flies is it! Love it!

Look no further for the awesome music playing during the closing surf montage in the HBO/John from Cincinnati's premiere episode. It's Kasabian's "Sun Rise Light Flies". Haven't heard the rest of the album but this song rocks!

I loved Kasabian's CD, Kasabian (so very much). This was not as great. Still a good sound, but I found a couple songs annoying. Kasabian has just not topped their Kasabian CD. On this disc there's only a couple songs I listen to. Would've been better to just download those particular songs.

The uniqueness of the songs immediately grabbed me with their propulsive beats, tasty hooks, skillful writing and fresh arrangements. It's one of those rare albums where every song is a winner -- no filler here. To me, their sound is a unique blend of what would happen if a brooding indie rocker had his songs remixed by a club DJ. (Note: This album is far superior to their follow-up CD (Empire), so get this one first.)

I recomend this for everyone who loves Rock. It's english and has some english slang. It is hard hitting and so very fun. I love it. It's a favorite CD.

I'm surprised. I'd read something where Noel Gallagher from Oasis was saying good things about Kasabian, so I listened to a few songs on itunes, read reviews, and bought this. I like it too. the music is pretty clever and catchy all at the same time, which seems so rare nowadays. Some songs take a minute to get going, but never seem to dissapoint. I'd hit it...

I can't get enough of one track on this CD: Processed Beats. Great for work out, walking, driving.

"Kasabian" may not be extremely original (though different than most bands today) and some of the songs aren't that good, but overall the pros far outweigh the cons. If you've heard anything about the band then you've probably heard the songs "Reason Is Treason", "Club Foot" or "L.S.F.". If you liked any of those songs then you should definitely pick up the album because you're going to love the rest of it. Sometimes the lyrics are cheesy and childish, but you won't really mind (in other words, you won't be ashamed that you're playing this album). Lead singer Tom Meighan is pretty much perfect for the band's style (I'm not sure how to describe him but you'll understand). The songs are also very groovy and I suppose you could say pretty "cool" sounding. The only problem with the album is that the lyrics aren't that good and the songs feel produced (i.e. there arguably seems to be a lack of personality or soul here). Some of the tracks aren't that good but most of them are dead-on. I'm giving it "4.5" stars because of its slight uniqueness in today's music and for the fact that it has so many good songs on it (and also because the singer is very appealing). If you're looking for a cool new mellow album to groove to, you're gonna love "Kasabian". Highly recommended!

Well, it's about time Manchester got a revival -- it's been around fifteen years since bands like the Happy Mondays and Stone Roses erupted onto the music scene. Now with late-70s and mid-80s music being revived in newer, trendier bands, it's about time we got to England in the late-80s and mid-90s.

Enter Kasabian, a Leicester band who put out catchy, synthy, and extremely entertaining rock'n'roll. What does their self-titled album sound like? Well, it has some echoes of those Manchester greats, except that it has a synth edge over those heavy riffs. Add in some very radio-friendly melodies, which are almost guaranteed to get these guys noticed by the media.

Not that that's a bad thing -- they resemble fellow electro-Manchester band South, which happens to be among my favorite Britpop bands. Kasabian is just lighter. They kick things off on a strong note with the expansive "Clubb Foot," which pairs gritty rock with sweeping synth, over Tom Meighan's languid vocals.

Fortunately this is not one of those albums that has one good single, and then gets lazy. Things stay catchy and gritty, all throughout the album, with heavy riffs and steady rhythms, and Kasabian keep their style varied enough that listeners won't be left thinking, "Oh man, are they playing that riff AGAIN?"

Not to mention the singing: Meighan has a very strong, melodious voice. In almost every song, he sings slow and lazily. He sounds either stoned or inattentive, except for a few wonderful songs where he sounds completely into what he sings. "John was a scientist, he was hooked on LSD/Interested in mind control and how the monkey held the key/Said that all life is experiments somebody's planning for the heir/It's for the unexpected citizens who hallucinate in fear," he purrs happily.

Yeah, it can get pretty heavy. but the music is also tempered with an ethereal edge -- there's a brief interlude which is all muffled riffs, deep synth and angelic vocals. At the very least, all that synth serves to lighten up what could have been a dark album, and adds an epic edge to what could have been terribly ordinary music.

The flaw? It gets a bit fragmented, with two peppy electronic "interludes" sitting between harder rock'n'roll. They're pretty, but they feel out of place.

Things climax with hints of another possible direction for them to go in: "U Boat," a rich soundscape that fades away into silence... before fading back into a different mix of "Reason is Treason." It's all hard angles and explosions, and if anything, this mix is even better than the radio-friendly original. (Talk about having your cake and eating it too)

One of the few albums that is catchy and musically rich, Kasabian's debut is one of the best releases this year. It's reminiscent of Britpop greats, but somehow that doesn't matter -- they're original enough to have their own fun sound.

Kasabian is one of the best groups to come out of the UK in the past few years. I simply cannot get enough of this cd. The band's sound is original and the songs are so catchy, making it an awesome debut cd.

Easily the best song on the album. So catchy, so brilliant. It is a true testament of what Kasabian is capable of at their best. I cannot say enough about this song it is just SO GOOD.

A near miss. The chorus is pretty good, but what ruins the songs are the wierd verses. It is also one of the slower songs. It's not bad, but not a "oh skip to track 7 I can't wait to hear that song" song.

fusing the narcotic frenzy of the MC5 with the righteous anger of the mighty Primal Scream, this is an assured, mesmerising debut.

While the eclectic mix of singles grabs the attention (Club Foot, Reason is Treason, LSF), there is not an ounce of flab on this killer album. If you are into good music of any kind - be it Primal Scream, Massive Attack, the Doors, Janes Addiction or whoever, this will put lead in your pencil.

This is only the second time ever where Ive heard a band on the radio and immediately got into the car and bought the record. Last time was Curve, and that was, like 1992 or something, and the record was not quite worth the journey. This time round, it would have made sense to carry on driving and tell all my friends about it as well!

Kinda electronica, kinda alt, kinda rock, kinda rap. Bit Madchester to start off with, but they soon get into a more original style, and when they do, the mix really sounds different from all the chart filler out there.

Finally, as some other reviewers have mentioned, there isnt a single bad minute on the album. Perfect.

Here's a band to namedrop, anyone remember The Shining? Well just think The Shining combined with a little Cooper Temple Clause, combined with a little Muse, and you'll have Kasabian's CD. I was looking at another Kasabian review courtesy of Amazon. It described the recent wave of bands/sounds coming from the UK, which I couldn't have summed up more perfectly. It's worth repeating here. 'Kasabian are part of a movement of emerging Bands in 2004 from the UK that have been raised on a melange New Wave, experimental electronica, dub beats and Rock 'n Roll who take the precepts of the DIY philosophy and fuse all these into an exciting brand of rock. They have pulled back from the grunge and shoegazer extremes to a more grounded, focused music that can appeal to prog rockers of the past and kids who consider themselves on the cutting edge. While musically they have more in common with latter day Radiohead, their soul is with Sex Pistols and The Clash." Now using this as a pretext to my description, once again, Kasabian = The Shining + Cooper Temple Clause + Muse.

What can i say? this is perfect from song 1 to 10, it last just the good time (this is not a guns n'roses megalomaniac trip "a la Use your Illusion) this album is 46 min. long.
I discribe it like the only album in my collection (500cd)who sound so futuristic...it's just the sound of fightin' years in a cold future...
It make me think of David Bowie 77'"Low" LP or Kraftwerk in their electronic approach but with more punch (check the xtrmntr LP of the Primal Scream).
But this band still very different of other bands...they really had their own world.
They're futuristic 'cause they mix with so much natural Rock and Electro with a singer who is a sort of Liam Gallagher with a Proclamation to tell...so there's even rap rock and punk in this voice...
Rappers may even love them, Rockers will adore them ...everyone with just enough rebel blood will be a fan...

this is the band of the future right now in our present(if this is not a gift!)...

"Trash Can" is a non-album track only found on this CD-Single. "Reason is Treason" is actually a different version/remix of the album version, and in my opinion, is better.
