Lily Allen

Lily is a rare talent! She infuses wit and humor in a variety or styles making it eminently enjoyable to listen to from beginning to end.

The current US mainstream acts are SO LAME, more about image and making a fast buck than any real substance. For this reason, I tend to look more into international acts such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Camera Obscura, Jens Lekman and Duffy, just to name a few. Even Amy Winehouse before rehab!

Being from the United States I didn't get blasted by the Lily Allen phenomenon that took over England after the "Queen of MySpace" debuted her first single "Smile" and debut album to the music world. Sure, MTV played the music videos and I heard occasional talk about the girl who came out of nowhere (well, the Internet is more like it), but I didn't really pay too much attention. But the infectious, albeit repetitive sounds of "Smile" permeated through my ears recently and I was drawn to the British pop star, and I ended up buying her CD. The album contains a good share of great songs, including the hilarious bro-bashing "Alfie" and "Not Big," and although Lily lacks powerful chops her sweet coo suits her individual style quite well. Lyrically, you can't get anything more entertaining - or, at times, odd - than here, but, again, that suits Lily's personality perfectly as an outspoken, unabashedly unique singer-songwriter with an excellent debut.

This is an Amy Winhouse clone and this sounds like fake rasta music. Save your money for a real artist with talent.

Considering when I heard Lily Allen's song LND, I found it quite impossible not to like it. I'm pretty much very wary with music these days, especially when it comes to more mainstream music. I thought that she could be a potential breath of fresh air. The results of the album are pretty mixed.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with any of these songs. But just because there's nothing wrong with these songs doesn't mean there good, and that pretty much is why this album isn't that great. WHile I could potentially overlook the fact she probably didn't compose the beats (I think it takes a special person to compose some of the background music, definitely more rich and entertaining than most crap that plauges today's pop).

But there are some very good tracks on here, that definitely are worth downloading. The first track "Smile", is a quite bittersweet sounding, with some great singing, and lyrics about watching other people suffer (cool!). Knock Em' Out is pretty funny, with a lively piano and horns, giving it a bar feel, you can only see the story happen in your mind, easily. LDN is a very breezy song, latin sounding, a very feel good hit, ironically with some lyrics about random acts of vices on the street. Not Big is another good one, though the lyrics are entertaining, it doesn't really interest me, but I love it anyway. And Alfie is hilarious, and the music is really quirky, another winner. Nan, Your A Window Shopper, is a fun song, with great music and beats. Her singing is catchy, too.

The rest of the album, however, isn't that great. IT's nothing that makes me want to smash things out of anger (bad music pisses me off, period), it's got some interesting ideas, some interesting lyrics, but nothing that memorable.

The music is very complimenting of the lyrics, and they work very well. Just listen to both and how they go together. Great work!

She can write better lyrics than most, even though people complain that she has no street cred. But hey, she knows that the world is dangerous. I'm from the sheltered middle class suburbs like most of the people writing reviews on this site (probably), and I know that the streets aren't a good place to be. Sure, it's a stereotype, but the world is simply not a pretty place. I hope those gangster wannabees get stranded in a bad area and get shot. She is sometimes biting, in her lyrics, but it's far from the fakeness that some idiots want you to believe. Hey, I could figure out that random acts of crime can happen on the streets, it's just common sense.

Alright, so I'll give credit for the rest of the songs I don't care about, after all, they are merely just not that interesting, nothing too cool, but mediocre. The six songs are worth listening to, but other than that, meh. Still though, better than Amy Winehouse (hate her).

I had high expectations from this album due to all the praise. She has this amazing way of putting whimsical and upbeat melodies to lyrics which are anything but. She is a new part of my musical daily diet.

Animal behaviorists have done some studies showing harp music is good at calming animals, especially cats. My cat was very skittish and unhappy as a result of very loud construction work next door and all other efforts to calm her down had not been totally successful. I got this and she (and I, if you must know) relaxed immediately.
It is a beautiful sounding album. (And the bahaviorists have a point. Cats do seem to hear vibes in harp music we can't. It was like instant prozac for her.)

I heard her songs on the radio LDN and Smile and I loved them, I bought the album not sure what to expect I was pleasantly surprised I like every song on the album I highly recommend this album if you like what you heard on the radio. Eagerly awaiting her next one.

Good songs, as expected, but a few of the cuss words were edited. My fault for not noticing that in the product info before purchasing...

The songs are very clever, a few have mature, but not raunchy themes (Not Big). Great, clear sound that is infectious. Kind of an English reggae (but not quite Ska), but very Pop also. I listened to it on the train to work this morning. Worth every penny.

Lily Allen is a witty rage-filled artist whose music is both danceable and hilarious to listen to. The skanking beats are just what her lyrics are meant for.

Lily Allen is wonderful. Every song on this CD is worth listening to. Her style is a mix of sca,reggae and pop. This is not just for the young....it's a toe-tapper!

She isn't as fake as everything else out there and she is adorable which makes you want to squeeze her cheeks and say it's alright love. The tunes are just catchy.

I LOVE THIS CD! And she's great to see live if you get a chance.

This is absolutely the most catchy, well produced album out there. Way outside my normal interests (Dungen, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Blur) but I can't seem to get the songs out of my head! Highly recommended by a picky music person. Looking forward to the next release, you rule Lily!

It's not often I feel compelled enough to write my thoughts on a cd, but this chick Lily Allen deserves a few minutes of my time. I can't praise this cd enough. It's completey out of my diverse collection of genre....but after a few hundred listens to this cd (literally), it really hits every genre of my interest, coming to realize that this beauty is in a genre of her own. I do hope she continues on a successful path, if her follow up is even HALF as good as her first disc, I will love it just the same. Cheers to new talent, and to one who knows how to present good music. No fillers AT all on this cd, every song is infectious and addictive. Buy this cd, you will have no regrets. It's blowing me away! Cheers!

THIS is a great song but ITS NOT WORTH 99.99 I would suggest getting this single off itunes same songs and everything for 2.99 better deal! whoever is selling this for 99.99 is crazy! like WTF!

I love the way Lily Allen can turn a phrase. Great vocals. In your face lyrics.

I love this song and it's video. The lyrics to the song are very straight forward and the video is a cracker! Well done Lily!

More genius from the very refreshing Lily Allen. "Absolutely Nothing" resembles a Happy Mondays track more than her typical sound, but "Cheryl Tweedy" is typical, with its great rhymes. Worth it if you liked "Alright, Still".

Lily Allen like the title of this CD makes you SMILE. With her slight Cockney speech and endearing matter of fact delivery. You feel like she is confiding to her closest friend. The upbeat, melodic, reggae arrangements hook you and won't let go. Without a doubt one of the best new artist of 2006. This mini album will bring life to any party.

i was walking down the street really sad about my past relation and i heard littlest things by lily, the right song at the right times, it described my feelings easily.
so i went inside the store bought the cd single, and i was amazed by it, so i i ripped it to my ipod and went running to buy the cd.
the paino, the lyrics, the calm suething voice, the tones, the guitar, made it simple to me, Littlest things by lily is one of my All time favorites, You wont go wrong with this song, i PROMISE you.

I was first introduced to Lily Allen on Saturday Night Live, when she was the featured performer. She struck me as quasi-Debbie Harry (from Blondie) and I really wasn't sure what to make of her sound. LITTLEST THINGS really solidifies, for me, just what a wonderful performer and talented songwriter this 20 year old wonder is. The lyrics are beautiful, the melody is romantic and you feel like it's a throwback to another time, and then you hear the percussive background and you are brought back to 2007. The music video is reminiscent of old, Natalie Wood movies, with Lily dressed up as a deadringer for the great actress. (yes, they look a lot alike) Great song.

Come on now. It's a Lily Allen CD.

the remastered version is cute, dancy, you cant rate a remix, its not the song its self since it varies to alot of people.
the video, THIS is why i bought the single, i already have the album, but the video is hilarious!

For starters, this song has a great, upbeat and bouncy sound. It sounds like liquid sunshine on vinyl. Secondly, the lyrics are about revenge. Lily's boyfriend wasn't faithful and she decides to get even by rounding her friends up and getting even with the jerk. And (to quote the song) "it makes [her] smile." You'll smile, too. Anyone who has a sadistic bent and has experienced love's betrayal can relate......the rest of us will have a hard time resisting Lily's charms because she is infectious (to say the least).
