Never reviewed any album ever for amazon. After downloading this album from Lindsey I couldn't help myself. Do your self a favor and buy this album right now. You will not believe how catchy this cd is. I am on my 3rd straight run through of the album and I can't believe how good it is! Been a fan of Mac, Stevie, and Lindsey for years and this is AMAZING! believe me!

At first listen I wasn't quite sold on this disc so I thought I would give it a few months before reviewing it. After repeated listens this cd gets better and better. This is a great cd if you are a fan of LB's solo material. I enjoyed "Out of the Cradle" and "Under The Skin" however I think this one has slightly better songs and the songs are more memorable. My only problem with this one is the vocals are too far back in the mix. He's an excellent singer and his vocals should be up front and center. As usual, the guitar playing by LB is fantastic. He's on a roll....maybe he'll put out another one soon!

Go Insane, Out of the Cradle, Under the Skin and now this. He uses less instruments than Insane and Cradle, but is becoming such a virtuoso on acoustic guitar you dont notice. I got it today and have probably heard it 5 times so far.

I have been a fan of Fleetwood Mac since about 6th grade in 1978. I fell in love w/ Stevie and admired the superior guitar work of her ex-lover Lindsey Buckingham.
Now, there is a new solo LIVE CD, Bass Performance Hall. (BPH is, by the way, in, Fort Worth, Texas) His performance is excellent, yet his interpretation of "Go Insane" is way wrong. And, his new stuff from "Under the Skin" is OKAY.
But, he comes the good parts. Cuts of his classics: "I KNow I'm not Wrong" from TUSK; "Holiday Road" from the NL's VACATION st; and "Go Your Own Way", a smash hit from 1977's Rumours were absolutely sensational. These clips games me goose bumps. "Second Hand News" and "Big Love" are good as well.
Overall, it is a strong LIVE CD, not as good as FM's 1980's LIVE album (ITS PRINTED IN THE LINER NOTES: performed at Rochester's (NY) War Memorial in 1979) that is an outstanding recording.

Great performances by Lindsey and his band. If you appreciate an intimate setting and are a fan of Lindsey's solo work, you will enjoy this DVD. It includes a great documentary as well.

If you enjoy music - you will LOVE Lindsey Buckingham in this DVD/CD. It seems that it would be impossible to play a guitar the way that Lindsey Buckingham plays throughout this concert. Pretty much just Lindsey Buckingham "blowing you away" by himself on stage, no back-up band or theatrics - just intelligent music performed in an awesome way.

I have always enjoyed certain songs of Fleetwood Mac - BUT THIS IS A UNIQUELY INCREDIBLE music "experience". The "Big Love" performance is probably my all-time favorite musical presentation, Live or recorded by any artist!

It is truly sad if you don't experience Lyndsey's performance on this DVD! Played it on a big screen, with a PS3 blue ray player - BLOWN AWAY!

Nice guitar work from Lindsey, and overall an enjoyable performance. However, his vocals on many of the songs are strained.....out of key...and often annoying. His performances on "The Dance" and "Live in Boston" blow these away. I'd buy those before this one.

This is one of my favorite albums, but I do wonder if anyone really *looked* at the pricing structure for the MP3s. Items 1, 7, and 11 are very brief tracks and it seems to me they could be marked down to .25c for individual purchase. They are not worth as much as the full length songs on the album by comparison.
That said, the album as a whole is magnificent, and "Countdown", "You Do or You Don't", and "Don't Look Down" stand out as iconic masterpieces.

You either love or hate the music of Lindsey Buckingham. When it comes to this artist, there is no middle ground in the opinion polls.

Lindsey, is an animal of his studio, an artist possessed by demons you and I can't afford. Sometimes the result of thousands of hours in solitude is a Pop Masterwork, other times he produces the strangest sounding sound collages, that are attacked with fury from music critics and the fools we be. Lindsey Buckingham is without doubt one of the most interesting musicial characters of our times, a true: "One-Off".

This 1992 CD release entitled: "Out Of The Cradle" is very accessible work. This record is easy on the ears, well crafted and full of Interesting tones and colors. From the acoustic introduction that bleeds into "Don't Look Down", this Disc presents Lindsey at his best. His guitar is brisk in the acoustic settings to downright blinding when he solos electric.

But playing and production aside, "Out Of The Cradle" has it's merits in the songs presented here. Many of these tunes are as good or better than his contributions to Fleetwood Mac during his tenure as the driving force of that great band between 1975-1988. "Wrong", "Countdown", "This Is The Time", "You Do Or You Don't", "Surrender The Rain", "Turn It On" and the lovely closing song: "Say We'll Meet Again". There are instrumental links to a few of the numbers persented here, and a spoken introduction to: "Surrender The Rain".

From upbeat and quirky to moody and introspective, this man can go either way, he tends to pour out his feelings within his music. There is an Honest feel to this material that echoes the best of any Singer/Songwriter of our day. Lindsey, will always live in the shadow of: Fleetwood Mac, and I believe after all these years, he understands why his solo music takes a back seat to the mega-sales of The Big Mac. The combination of those players in FM is so unique and the songs so popular to the masses, even the Musician who masterminded their sound, and wrote so many of their Hit Singles, has to take a backseat to their massive appeal.

Fleetwood Mac will indeed be back in 2009 {we still do not know what form the Band will take on in the future.} Lindsey, will be there producing and singing and playing as he does better than just about anyone in the Music Business. This Veteran Warrior, will not back down. Lindsey Buckingham is already up there at the Top, and I believe he is going to stay there a little while longer.
This is a Fine CD.

This is a fantastic album, Great slow songs, Great fast songs, and some songs are very uplifting like "Turn it on". I would recommend this album to Fleetwood Mac fan or non-Fleetwood Mac fan.

If Lindsay Buckingham did nothing else, and I include his work with F Mac in that (brilliant as parts of that are), this recording would be enough to establish him as a Master of his craft. The instrumental, lyrical, compositional and narrative standards he sets here are rarely matched in anything recorded since. By anybody. In any genre. It took him, I understand, 8 years to finish this. Considering everything that's in "Out of the Cradle", that's damn fast work.

Over the top you think? Well not so because if you spend enough time with this CD you'll discover how seemingly effortlessly Buckingham weaves his lyrical themes and instrumental performances to create this piece of art, in Rock/Pop style no less. And all of it with Buckingham playing all the instruments and singing all the parts. Or almost all.

"Out of the Cradle" is a song cycle. As the title tells us, Buckingham starts from the first point of life and the CD takes us to the final one, with much to say as we go. It's all of one piece, the sum greater than the parts, it's Whole.

The brief, and beautiful, acoustic guitar instrumentals that are interspersed amongst the tracks separate the recording into "chapters". Each chapter has several tunes that all deal with fundamental existential issues. These are, to name a few, spirituality and human potential, personal despair, death, (your own and a loved one's), sexuality as diversion, love as salvation, solitude, resolution, and finally triumphant transcendent peace. Its all there, and more. Buy it and listen to it. Over and over again. Its wonderful.

"Out of the Cradle" is unmatched, and un-recognized in its time. This would be a sad state of affairs if Buckingham were not a wealthy and influential artist. But he is all that, for sure, so all you need to do is rejoice in finding this Lost Treasure.

I highly recommend this CD to any Lindsey Buckingham fan! Total genius! The music is great and leaves you wanting more!

Love this album, Lindsey is the best guitar player of all times and his albums rock. I love him in Fleetwood Mac, but he is great alone. Some of the tunes are odd, but you will love them all. Play in the rain is excellent, part 2- its all music, no singing, and Im addicted to it. Have it loaded on my MP3 on continuous play

Buckingham's sophomore solo album was another experimental set that was popular with music critics, but it failed to win much interest from the music-buying public and stalled #45 on the Hot 200. It seems as though many listeners were accusing Buckingham of putting style above substance and of being more interested in production gimmicks than actual song-writing. While it is true that Buckingham often prefers to place much of the emphasis on obsessively detailed production and lyrical tags rather than the traditional "song" format, I can't help but feel that many of these cynics have an extremely narrow-minded view of Buckingham's particular craft. It often goes unheralded, for example, that Buckingham also loads his tracks with compelling melodies and memorable hooks, which allows his compositions to function as true music rather than novel sound effects alone.

Perhaps a reflection of Buckingham's own personal strife at the time, GO INSANE is a rather dark recording, lacking the almost fun house-like fun of 1981's LAW AND ORDER. All of the wild and seemingly unrestrained production tricks crash in a harrowing collision on the stellar tracks "I Want You," "I Must Go," and "Bang the Drum," all which are consistently surprising and instantly memorable. A similar effect occurs on the terrific hit title track (#23 Pop, #4 Mainstream Rock), in which a mass of choral vocals combine into one nervy master work. The intoxicating "Playing in the Rain" retains it's mesmerizing hold through an effective reprise (which originally carried over to the second side of the original vinyl LP), while "Slow Dancing" and "Loving Cup" incorporate subtle electronic funk into Buckingham's catalog.

Best of all is the amazing "D. W. Suite," which closes the album. A tribute to the late Beach Boy Dennis Wilson, who was one of Buckingham's musical idols, this nearly seven minute track is a tour de force of sonic landscaping and effective song-writing. It is the one moment of the entire disc where Buckingham truly drops the mask and writes straight from his heart. After a full album of top-notch synthesizer-heavy rock, this bittersweet, genuinely moving epic is the perfect way to bring the whirlwind to a close.

This is one of the greatest Rock Albums in history, easily in my Top 10 of all time. The music, the lyrics, everything is so powerful, and from one of the premiere musicians of all time.

I first purchased 'Go Insane' on vinyl back when it was first issued in 1984. A year or two later I bought in on cassette. Listening to it today I think it has pretty much stood the test of time.

Buy it..you won't be sorry.

I think I gave this review 3 stars instead of 2 just because I am a big Lindsey fan. I truly enjoy his singing and absolutely love his guitar mastery. I bought this album without hearing all of the songs and I was worried I may not love it, and I was right. Just too slow, and no real feeling in my opinion. They all sound kind of the same. My favorite track is Down on Rodeo, but I prefer the solo accoustical "improv" performance on his Youtube site. Out of the Cradle is one of my favorite CD's in my collection -- this is totally different. Don't know if he has another album in the works -- I'll buy it for sure, as I really respect Lindsey for what he has accomplished and the passion he obviously puts into his work. Unfortunately, this CD just didn't really do it for me.

Happened to see Buckingham on "Ellen" last year - I was totally intrigued by his awesome guitarwork. He sang "Not Too Late" and I thought "Wow, there's really some substance (excellent) here". I bought Under The Skin and was totally blown away by the quality of the music - you don't hear this kind of good music anymore, nowadays. I've been playing this cd nonstop since the day I bought it. I'm now backtracking to Buckingham's previous solo releases. Can't believe I'd never noted this music genius's body of work outside fleetwood Mac before.

The most under-appreciated guitarist in the annals of Rock `N Roll, this his passion play; an intricate delve into his psyche where, for the first time in years - perhaps ever - he displays a coherence in his intrinsic confessional that threads the sum of its parts to create a gorgeous entity, without an iota of self-indulgence or pretentiousness. There's strangeness to it, still...the layers reflect an eerie, haunting serenity piece, interrupted at times with his genius fingerpicking craft. Stevie Nicks should take notes on its beguiling intimacy. My grade: A-

From reading several dozen reviews here, I get the impression that most of the people who really like this album also are big fans of the Buckingham/Nicks incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. I am not, I prefer the pre-Buckingham/Nicks lineups though I allow that the first couple of albums featuring that duo were pretty decent despite being blatantly commercial.
So why did I buy this? Well, I read a couple of reviews in magazines I generally respect that were quite positive and that stimulated my curiosity. So eventually I got around to buying Under the Skin when I spotted it for a "great" price at a local big box music and book store. That purchase proved to be a rare but fortunately inexpensive mistake on my part.
What do people hear on Under the Skin that I am not hearing? Musically, I have a very open mind and wanted to like this but I find that there is almost nothing here worth hearing twice. Way too poppy is my first impression and then there is the annoying way that Buckingham plays three times the notes necessary. About the only song that passes muster is Down On Rodeo, and even that is weak.
So its been fourteen years since Buckingham's last album. If he is going to feed us rubbish like this, I hope he waits at least another fourteen.
I guess if you think the last thirty years of Fleetwood Mac represent its best, then you will like this. But if you are expecting anything close to new and innovative, you'll not find it here.

This a very listenable CD with a lot of guitar notes. Lindsey's style keeps getting more complex and he keeps adding notes. This time out, he does a lot of classical guitar style playing. I don't know how he can sing over all of it. It's also a folky type CD with not much going on percussion-wise. I miss the FM rhythm section. --It's strange. Lindsey has loads of talent but he has yet to cut a classic solo CD. All of them have their highlights though. This one has Down on the Rodeo which sounds the most like a FM song. Rest assured, the sound and different effects that he has created for the CD are excellent. I liked all his doctored and watery vocals actually. I wish he would have created some more rockers for the CD. It also has a lot of personal lyrics that seem quirky and self-indulgent at times, but at least we know how he feels.

This album is best described as his early quirky days as a solo artist. I only bought this album for the hit song from 1981 "Trouble". I'm looking forward in buying his latest CD "Gift of Screws". It has a few well written songs. And of course, I listen to Fleetwood Mac too from which he is a member.

I admit that I originally bought this cd for the song"TROUBLE" After jumping through the other tracks I always would return to the fore mentioned song.
It took me a while but I finally dared to really listen to the other songs.

Love it, what can you say, its Lindsey Buckingham- one of the greatest musicians of all time. I love all his stuff, both alone, with Stevie Nicks, and of course in Fleetwood Mac.

No one can ever accuse Lindsey Buckingham of playing it safe. For his first solo album apart from super-group Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham decided to continue the experimental sound that he began on 1979's TUSK. Instead of crafting a routine pop/rock effort that surely would have guaranteed commercial success, Buckingham chose to continue his pursuit of the testing the limits of the conventional rock sound. This results in a wildly eclectic, but fascinating, recording.

The bulk of LAW AND ORDER is given over to the skewed take on fifties rock n' roll that made up the bulk of TUSK. The breakneck tracks "Bwana" and "Mary Lee Jones" burst forth with a madcap energy that would have traumatized even Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry, while "I'll Tell You Now" and "Love from Here, Love from There" are harmonious, choral-driven love anthems that would make the Beach Boys proud. There is a carnal aggression behind "That's How We Do It in L.A." and "Johnny Stew," both of which mix nervy, warped instrumentation with a wicked sense of ironic humor. In between such aural chaos contains major pop gems like the haunting smash hit "Trouble" (#9 Pop, #12 Mainstream Rock) and the absolutely gorgeous "Shadows of the West."

All of Buckingham's original material is first-rate, although his success with cover songs is a mixed bag. Buckingham's helium voiced, paranoid cover of Skip & Flip's early-sixties' doo-wop hit "It Was I" is loopy fun, where all of the oddball production gimmicks combine to create a giddy masterpiece. Unfortunately, the covers of the Maxwell Anderson/Kurt Weill Tin Pan Alley standard "September Song" and Porter Wagner's country hit "Satisfied Mind" sound clanky and awkward under Buckingham's cluttered production, leaving them sounding more like a string of production tricks rather than actual songs. This is forgivable, however, given that it only occurs twice.

Although LAW AND ORDER was well-received by most music critics when originally released, it failed to match Stevie Nicks' concurrent solo release BELLA DONNA in sales and popularity. Still, LAW AND ORDER peaked at a respectable #32 on Billboard's Hot 200 and further solidified Buckingham's position as the current king of avant-garde rock. The disc is brave, bold, and daring, and will be best appreciated by more adventurous listeners. All the album's sum may be a little off, it's parts are often brilliant.

Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) released this solo effort in 1981, it includes my favorite song "Trouble". I can remember exactly where and when I was the first time I heard it . . . as if it were yesterday. I bought the album (vinyl) when it was released and then the CD, there is something about "Trouble" that I just can't get out of my head, not that I would ever want to.

Lindsey, an incredibly talented musician, really pushed the envelope on this album . . . maybe just a tad too far, at least for my tastes. There is some interesting music here, however, and the CD is more than worth the price just for the song "Trouble".

This is a CD of 15 tracks of artists performing live on air to a two track DAT. One track contains overdubs, the rest features the musicians huddled around a couple of microphones, almost all of this music is acoustic.

The broadcasting station is KCRW, independent public radio for most of Southern California. The show is called: "Morning Becomes Electric", a very proper title. This is great radio, and it transfers to CD as an alternative to just about every other form of art, that you have been forced to undergo...this is a different experience for the ears...this is a pleasure.

With the exception of a couple performances that are a little harsh and disturbed, this is an easy flow, as if one artist finishes and another right by their side begins to play. And the artists? Well, with: Beck, Tori Amos, Lindsey Buckingham, X, Los Lobos, John Cale, Natalie Merchant and a spoken word prelude by Leonard Cohen, many different paths are explored herein over these 64 minutes.

Beck is weird, Los Lobos is cool as a night frog, Lindsey's nylon strings are outta-tune, Tori Amos & John Cale sound a world apart from each other on the exact same piano, Evan & Juliana are hangin' with their Drug Buddy, and Mark Isham sounds like Miles Davis chopped down his family tree!

The sound quality of this disc is as good as it gets, the performances are right in front of you from start to finish. This CD has been produced with great care and is well thought out. No, I don't care for every single song on this but, what I don't find pleasing might be your personal favorite. Some of this music may be of your past, but for me, most of this material is brand spankin' new to my ears.

This is one of the most unique discs that I have listened to in ages. Right here, on this disc...is my kind of radio!

I used to listen to this while living in San Fran's Mission District with a houseful of bohemians. Most of us were supported by that city's municipal welfare program (General Assistance, or "G.A."). We did various things to have fun and feel better about ourselves, and this album was one of my favorite things. Someone had brought it home from her used-record store job... I think her name was Holly.

It's only just now, searching for it during this nostalgic evening of clicking-around, that it occurs to me why this compilation is so powerful. It's an album about addiction. This is perhaps most clear from the final track. Search for the lyrics to Wilcox's song. It's a powerful testament to the hope and sadness of recovery. The boat imagery there is wonderful. Take also the Dando & Hatfield track, which chants "I'm too much with myself, I wanna be someone else..."

There's a lot more on here about it beyond that... I mean, just scan the titles. Directly or sideways, this album is all about highs and lows. It's brilliantly compiled -- just wonderful. I could easily sit here for a few minutes and link every single song's title to the topic of substances and addiction. But won't. I have a full life to lead, now.

I bought this collection some ten years ago, and it has aged very, very well. The performances are great, and there's a real cohesion in them in terms of production. Whoever produced the CD really loves music, and must have made many mix tapes in his/her life, because it has the ebb and flow of a really excellent mix tape, with shifting moods and styles. I enjoy quite a bit of it, but the highlights for me are Lucinda Williams' cover of a Nick Drake song, the David Wilcox song, and the Peter Himmelman song, which also features an *amazing*, beautiful, lyrical guitar solo coming straight from the heart. In fact, "Always in Disguise" is really my favorite song overall from this collection. BUY IT TODAY!!!

This compilation is, at the time of writing, the best part of ten years old. And, in my humble opinion, it has never been bettered. Production quality is first rate, performances are almost flawless and the mix of music is spot on. You and yours can't fail to be sucked in by this one. John Cale's first poem blending seemlessly into Tori Amos doing 'Silent all these years', Beck's 'Mexico' is hilarious and wry even after all this time, The Modern's just don't want to end and you won't want them to, Lindsay Buckingham comes up with a magnificent arrangement for an old Fleetwood Mac tune (since copied badly by The Dixie Chicks) and a just wonderful ode to Chet Baker to finish. This is a CD that makes much of modern chill out laughable and shows what can be acheived by a group of people who really love music. It is a primer for the rest of the Rare on Air series and a great place to begin. Grab this while it is still in print.

I just wanted to point out that Lindsey Buckingham's songs Holiday Road and Dancin' Cross the USA are actually on the tenth anniversary special release (1999) for the third movie in the Griswolds saga National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Soundtrack. There were only 20 000 copies of that CD made but you can still track them down through any good rare and second hand cd vendor and there's even some on e-bay but I'd look carefully at the product information/seller feed back as unfortunately there's also some burnt copies up there.

Have no idea if the seller on this page is selling a pirated copy but my question is if someone knows for sure why don't they just report it to Amazon or appropriate government department that deals with fraud in your country. I know for a fact this album was released on LP, someone had it when I was a kid (this was before CDs were around). Obviously the version on this page claims to have a few extra songs, Limp Bizkit Holiday Road is on the Christmas Soundtrack bonus as well so it is plausible the same sort of promotion happened with this one when it was released on CD. Christmas was sold at a booth in Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park. My advice if you are going to buy this album would be to write to Amazon with your concerns it may be fraudulent and make them prove the product isn't. Retail stores you can walk into have to put their reputation on selling legitimate rare cds and not copies so surely Amazon must do the same thing. If you receive a burnt disc take it to the fraud section of your local police, get a copy of the statement you give to them and forward it to Amazon demanding a full refund including postage or to find you a legitimate copy for the contracted price you agreed to when you paid. I would point out though all the reviews saying this is a fake haven't provided any proof at all that it is, all they've done is typed in capital letters their opinion that it is, so if you want the album I'd investigate it yourself.

The original soundtrack of the movie was released on vinyl in 1983 and deleted before CD was even invented in 1985. Therefore this is not a legitimate CD. Don't waste $80 or so on this because it's very, very poor quality. A bootleg. I know it's tempting because it's a great soundtrack, but trust me -- don't waste your money because it's an illegal bootleg. There was NEVER a SPECIAL LIMITED CD released commercially anywhere in the world. Never. You cannot, repeat CANNOT get the VACATION soundtrack on CD anywhere in the universe apart from this guy who is selling it. You've been warned.

I like that song since i saw the movie, but 50 dollars! I don't like it that much, anyway I found that this song is available in limewire.

The picture you see up top is not the actual CD. There was an official CD release of this, but it has "Cancelled Passport Edition" in the upper left hand corner. Anyone selling a copy that looks like this is selling a fake.

If you're into classical music and Fleetwood Mac then this album is for you! It's actually quite nice! I think this string quartet did a very nice job remaking Fleetwood Mac's masterpieces! It's quite interesting to listen to, especially if you're a big Fleetwood Mac fan! I would most definately recommend this album for big Fleetwood Mac and classical music fans!
