1990: I was fifteen years old and I was watching MTV one day, and suddenly the song 'All Around The World' came on by this new singer Lisa Stansfield. That was it, I was hooked. I literally felt like this music was speaking to me: the voice, the beat, the catchiness. I sang that song (and all the others on the album) millions of times, wishing I was Lisa. Lisa's debut became MY music, above all else. It shaped my adolescence and I haven't been able to put it down since. Now before you write me off as a Lisa fanatic (which I proudly am, and you will be too after listening to this classic album), let me agree and add to the reviews below.
1. Lisa's voice is intoxicating and hits all the right notes at all the right times.
2. Every song could have been a hit and production is amazing throughout.
3. The music wants to make you dance, cry, sing and chill to.
4. Affection never gets boring, and does not sound dated at all.
5. We Lisa fans need to keep her music alive and help it be rediscovered... it is only a matter of time before the 1990's style becomes fashionable again and this album is given even greater classic status than it already has.
And remember, 'You Can't Deny It', 'This Is The Right Time' to listen to this album 'All Around The World'.

I have this as an album and wanted a CD version of it. I loved the music when it first came out back in the day, and still do

Lisa Stansfield's solo debut pretty much showed that she was the UK's answer to Teena Marie; a Caucasian woman with vocals so soulful that you would swear up and down that she was black if you weren't looking straight at her.

The album is fantastic, and while it hasn't aged extremely well, that is okay. Standout tracks include the midtempo R&B smash, "All Around The World," the thumping neo-disco cut "This Is The Right Time," and the soulful house gem "The Love In Me." That isn't to say that there aren't missteps on the album. "Mighty Love" is happy forgettable filler and the new jack swing-influenced "Poison" seems like a song that is too hard-edged for a sophisticated girl like Lisa and as a result, doesn't quite pull it off. Despite those minor faults, Affection is still worth listening to over and over again.

Lisa's CD Affection is one of my all time favorites. So glad amazon came thru. Been looking everywhere. Thanks again amazon!!!

When all else fails, put Lisa in. I can't believe after all these years and I still play this cd. It's always like a breathe of fresh air when you get sick of every other kind of music. I remember hearing "All Around The World" for the first time on the radio in 1990. It had that then popular thumping "soul to soul" type beat that was the definitive sound of the evoluton of house music. "All Around The World" and "Poison" by BellBiv Devoe were the pop jams during this time and brings back the best of times for me. My all time favourite song is "You Can't Deny It" on the cd. To this day I still love hearing it. I can play this whole cd from start to finish and it sends you that good vibe everytime. "Affection" is one of my fave cds and it's a classic.

Originally pegged by some critics as a clone of white female pop stars like Kylie Minogue or Susanna Hoffs, Lisa Stansfield boldly proved them all wrong by instead becoming possibly the finest white female soul singer since Teena Marie. She first burst onto the scene in 1990 with the hits "All Around The World" and "You Can't Deny It". Her rich, beautiful voice is probably at its glorious best on the 1991 #1 R&B hit "All Woman" which is an intense and powerful anthem for strong-willed, independent women everywhere. The 1991 non-hit "First Joy" is also catchy and melodic. She hit once more in 1997 with "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up," and this affordable, well chosen hits collection is a good way to get most or all of her best work.

This is, by far, one of the best Compilation CDs I've heard in a long time. Lisa Stansfield has amazed me with her talent, ever since the release of "Affection" back in '90. I went shopping recently in the music store and came across "Biography" as a surprise. Having been unaware of its release, I decided to "put it in the bank" with my other upcoming purchases. 2 days later, I bought it on amazon and I don't regret it one bit. My copy is a promo, but it's got the same booklet and images as the publicly released edition.

I really like the photos of Lisa, although most of them are small thumbnails, except for 2 larger ones. Her face is beautiful and she's changed quite a bit in the past 15 years. My, has it really been that long? There are some nice little tidbits about Lisa's songs, inside the booklet. What you won't find are the lyrics, though. The interior of the booklet is white and well-designed. Simple and straight-forward and not distracting to the eye. Additionally, the disc itself is white. The recording appears to have been remastered, which makes listening all the better. Arista is a great Label. Most of the tracks are new to me...as I've only bought the "Affection" CD since discovering Lisa Stansfield. Considering "Someday (I'm coming back)" was on the "The Bodyguard" soundtrack...it's nice to find it here. It's the logical thing to do when your song is among a bunch of other material on another CD.

Buy this CD and you'll agree, it's definitely worth the money. Lisa Stansfield is right up there in the "Must Have" of pop music with Annie Lennox & all the other genius Brits.

In the early 90s STANSFIELD was extremely popular with hits like someday , All Around The World ,In All The Right Places and so many other popular songs but by the mid 90s she seemed to fade away from the international scene infact i bought rhe bodyguard soundtrack exspecially for her songs which i feel made the soundtrack the best with a little bit of luck i feel STANSFIELD could ve been in celiene dions place today STANSFIELD had the best voice ever i feel and about this album it contains almost all her hits including someday my favorite so i m going right ahead to order this compilation right now

The problem with having a fantastic debut album is that one is expected to deliver an even better follow-up. That was definitely a tall order for Brit soul diva Lisa Stansfield, but did she deliver! Real Love is an album that drips with soul from the first track to the last, no matter what the order (the US and UK versions have differing track orders, one being no better or worse than the other).

Don't expect to hear any songs like "This Is The Right Time" on this album, though; Lisa keeps is strictly midtempo this time around. In fact, the fastest song on this album is the barely triple-digit BPM "Make Love To Ya," one of the highlights on the album, by the way. Other standout tracks include "All Woman," "Set Your Loving Free," "First Joy," "A Little More Love," and the Barry White-influenced title track.

No Lisa collection is complete without this gem!

Lisa Stansfield's second release is more a continuation of the first, filled with the same driving beats, sultry vocals, and songwriting/production team.

However, the singer explores a "torchier" side with the inclusion of one of the best songs of the 90's: the passionate "All Woman." The song tells of a marriage going south, with the husband unfairly criticizing his wife for her change in behavior, as well as appearance. However, the wife gets the last word, proclaiming her contributions and faithfulness to the union; thus, the couple reconciles. Stansfield sings as though she herself has experienced the ups and downs of a failing relationship.

Why the singer didn't receive a Grammy for this song is a mystery!

The rest of the album is equally impressive from one of the most underrated singers in the world.

i have 4 of her cds, and have bought most in 2008. i find her music, lyrics, and voice to be connecting, encouraging, uplifting and real. not a song do i ever wanna skip on her cds!!

As a child growing up in Rochdale, lisa's home town, I was one of the few people who new about lisa's early singing.
Lisa was a student of my mothers art class at Sidall moor high school in Heywood lancashire. My mother would encourage her to sing in class.
I have since then folowed her career and think she has and amazing voice. this CD is no exception, pure woman, sensual and classy!

When "Lisa Stansfield" was released years ago, I bought it in cassette form. I played it so much that I ruined it. After searching and searching for months, I finally found it on C.D. It looks like I'm going to ruin the C.D. because I've been playing it everyday since I bought it. I just love her voice. She should be right up there with the likes of Whitney, Barbara, Mariah, and Celine. "Somewhere In Time" is my very favorite track on the C.D. She's great.

I really wish Lisa had come out onto the music scene nowadays. Back when she did come out, her style of music was not really in the American mainstream, but now, woohoo. I know that if "All Around the World" was released as a single now it would hit the top of the charts and that all of her cds to follow would hit the number one spots on all the charts. I think that listeners as a whole are tired of singers and bands that sound all the same and are lookin for a breath of fresh air. Lisa Stansfield is exactly that. This cd showcases her singing abilities perfectly. From the powerful ballads to the blood pumping numbers, this cd is what america needs now. All of her cds are in their own way different, but Lisa remains the same on all of em. Why not give her a try and see if I am wrong america, what have you got to lose?

Easily Lisa Stansfield's BEST release. EVER!! Why this CD did not receive more attention upon its release escapes me. I just came across this disc upon seeing it marked down to a ridiculously low price in the bargain bin at a large music store in San Francisco last week. As many other listeners have noted here on Amazon, there are NO filler tracks here at all. Lisa sounds equally at ease singing her blue-eyed soul on the killer dance tracks and the slow-burn ballads. But I have to say, it is still her remake of Barry White's "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up" and Phyllis Hyman's "You Know How To Love Me" that elevate this CD to a MUST-OWN status for any R&B/Disco/Dance Fan. Her remake of Barry's dance classic easily equals the Big Black Teddy Bear's 1973 classic. The rhythmic instrumentation is a nice update of Barry's great track while still retaining its core foundation. While "You Know How To Love Me" sort of pales in comparison, Lisa still does fans of the late Phyllis Hyman proud with her soulful remake.

There are several outstanding modern tracks here besides the two '70s remakes, like "Suzanne" "Don't Cry For Me" and the surprisingly touching "Footsteps", which reminds me of a gospel tune with its deeply moving lyrics. For any Stansfield fan, Lisa does no wrong here. Her sexy, soulful voice makes every track stand out, especially her cover of the classic Seventies stuff. Sort of makes me wish Lisa would release an entire CD full of Seventies covers. Am I the only one who wishes this? I'm sure many of her fans think the same. Lisa was born 30 years too late. She should have been born to make this blue-eyed soul stuff in the Seventies alongside the likes of Phyllis Hyman, Gladys Knight, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor.

This is definitely one of Lisa's best albums to date with her sultury, jazzy sounding voice. It is a nice treat to her Lisa's voice so capable of such an arrangement of jazzy-bluesy type songs and just plain fun swing. I love this CD, just because it is so different from anything else that Lisa has done in the past, yet her voice perfectly fits the type of songs on this Cd. Pour yourself a glass of whatever and sit back and enjoy the melodies!

I really don't think Lisa or Ian (her hubby) had much time to get this done, as the songs needed to be IN the film that she was (probably simultaneously) making. If you know your Lisa, you know that her best stuff always comes when she's not thinking about it, and this baby is the ultimate proof! Maybe it was growing up singing in pubs, maybe it's Ian's influence, maybe it was her parents, who knows?? The point is that Lisa can sing ANYTHING in her sleep! If you like the standards, if you love the incidental whimsy that music takes on when it's geared up for a film (especially a small one....), if you're a fan of the soul divas but have no clue why anyone would listen to swing music-this is your c.d.!!

My only disappointment was the valiant effort to rework "Baby I Need Your Lovin' " ; it just won't work for anyone who's got Levi Stubbs ingrained in their noggin', but Lisa and Ian get points for trying.

The original song "Why Do We Call It Love?" will knock your socks off, and you'll SWEAR it's vintage 50*s London swing, but it ain't!

I can never do a Lisa review without somehow mentioning Dusty (that's a good thing, Dusty fans don't take such comparisons lightly, believe you me) and here is proof posiitive that Lisa is gearing up to be the heir apparent (if any ONE singer can do it, that is....). Those of us who have followed Lisa closely knew back when she did "Down in the Depths" (and made every big name of 1990 look like an amateur!) that a universal songstress was blooming before our very ears. Wish I could still go down a pub somewhere and see her live....

I bought this CD to complete my collection of Lisa Stansfield's work. I've been in love with her voice since her debut release Affection. But like most of her fans in the US, I knew nothing about the movie Swing. After seeing the video for Baby I Need Your Loving on a public access music show, I decided to give it a try. I have never been more shocked by a cd purchase. This has become my favorite of all of Lisa's music because it's so different from what she's done before, yet the music is so perfect for her voice. From Baby I Need Your Loving to the killler Why Do We Call It Love this CD..well...Swings. The true gem of this release is Two Years Too Blue, if ever there was a voice for singing a torch song, Lisa owns it. Put this disc in and let the music take you. I guarantee you won't be disapointed.

I remembered liking Ms. Stansfield's voice, and I knew that I liked swing music so I put this on my Wishlist. Two of my friends got it for me for my birthday, and I can't thank them enough.

I've never been fond of "Mack the Knife", but her version's good. I've never heard of Georgie Fame before, but his "I Thought That's What You Liked About Me" is a great addition to the album. "Martin's Theme" is a lovely bluesy instrumental.

However, the album belongs to Lisa Stansfield. For upbeat, listen to "Watch the Birdie" and "There Ain't Nobody Here but Us Chickens" which are light and funny. How she made the "Chickens" sexy is beyond me. For sensuality, "Two Years Too Blue" can't be beaten.

My only disappointment is "Our Love is Here to Stay." It's one of my favorite songs and after hearing "Too Blue" I was looking forward to a languid and sensual take on this classic. It's done in a more upbeat style which still sounds fantastic, it's just not what it could have been.

Buy this. It's terrific.

with this cd Lisa Stansfield shows that if she were ever to record a cd of "Standards" she would blow other artists away!! This cd of swing music is marvellous with some standards & some songs written for the film by Lisa, Ian Devaney & Richard Darbyshire. Two of the songs that have not gotten much praise here are "Two Years Too Blue" & "Why Do We Call It Love" both are close to perfection!! As for the STANDARDS...They are magical!!!! All in all, This is a great cd of GREAT performances!

Lisa Stansfield has an amazing voice - articulate and expressive with great range and power. FACE UP was an excellent release and this 2003 reissued edition with bonus tracks is amazing. The packaging is beautiful and the remastered sound quality is crystal clear.

Lisa Stansfield is very eclectic in her style of music. She starts from the r@b genre but ventures into exploratory pop, dance and jazz. The hit here is LET'S JUST CALL IT LOVE. This song as well as the opener I'VE GOT SOMETHING BETTER are both sensual, rythmic r@b jams. There is very little filler here on the 14 tracks (plus 2 bonus). Standout ballads are HOW COULD YOU, WISH ON ME and WHEN THE LAST SUN GOES DOWN. Her voice soars and carresses each note. But the standout ballad, indeed the standout of the whole set, is DIDN'T I a ballad that is heartwerenching and beautifully interpreted here.

When Lisa does pop it is very mature adult oriented pop with a tinge of r@b. Standouts are I'M COMING TO GET YOU, 8-3-1, DON'T LEAVE NOW I'M IN LOVE and ALL OVER ME. The only tracks that are filler for me are the dance tracks CANDY and BOYFRIEND. Bottom line, Lisa Stansfield is a very underrated singer and this cd fully demonstrates her amazing vocal talent and prowess. Enjoy.

Come on get with it! This is definitely one of "Mrs." Stansfield's best albums to date. This is one of my absolute favorites from Lisa, there are so many of her best, most recent, songs on this album. Lisa's albums only get better with age, and thank goodness for that! Lisa has said that she thought to be one of her best albums, and I agree. Get this CD and be thrilled with the superb vocals(from the one and only Lisa Stanfield) and wonderful songs, you will not be disappointed!

I will never forget my teen days plugging up my walkman earphone and turned on the radio loud when ALL AROUND THE WORLD came into the air of the local stations...

Even I was 15 I knew and I could tell Stansfield was going to be the new Best Brit Pop Diva, she will only get better and classier than her peers Dina Carroll, Cathy Dennis and Kylie Minogue. (Check out the scene in her latest video LET'S JUST CALL IT LOVE as she steps out of the dark limo in a scarlet evening lace dress and sashays down the street to meet her "Lover in Crime"!)

FACE UP is the 5th full-length studio record and effort in 4 years from Stansfield and her long musical companion/love in life/husband/buddy Ian Devaney, with a few tracks co-written and produced by their musical partner Richard Darbyshire.

The Love Duo proves once again at best with their typical upbeat tempo, outrospectively soulful live jazz dance music in the great opener I'VE GOT SOMETHING BETTER. "Open up show me love turn up the music..." Stansfield pronounces in her deep Rochdale accent with a veteran diva vocal that exudes that kind of energy which makes you jump up straight and tap your feet along every beat as she sings...

YOU CAN DO THAT is a pretty funky number in contrast right after the contemporary upbeat exciting sound of the first 2 tracks.

And yes, the most probably biggest smash hit from this album, EIGHT-THREE-ONE, is the indeniably best classic Stansfield trademark disco rhythm (check out the David Morales mix in the new single) after her self-titled 4th album's single NEVER NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP. Sound as if we haven't got enough of great stuff from Stansfield, the follow-up title track FACE UP continues to encho her much Barry-White-defined disco sound.

The European Union edition of this album I owe is a deleted copy which only features up to track 13, WHEN THE LAST SUN GOES DOWN. Ironically, this track is the ultimately sentimental ballad that is rather appropriate to round up the album at last and best for a romantic evening you have shared with your love partner.

You know we lovers or fans love this album and only expect you to do even better, thank you Lady Lisa Stansfield.

I used to watch this movie all the time when I was a kid. Just this past year, I had bought it on DVD for five bucks. The music immediately caught my attention! It was gorgeous! One thing that Mr. Horner does is he treats a kids film or an animated film like any other film. He doesn't really try to cartoonize his music like Loony Tunes or something.
I bought the CD. The opening title theme is amazing! I love the music he wrote for adventure! My favorite track is probably Loneliness. There you hear the main theme played very expressively just as he did with The Whispering Winds in the Land Before Time. (sigh) So beautiful.
The song Whatever You Imagine is pretty good.
Those tracks that I've mentioned are my favs but the CD as a whole is fantastic! A must buy! Great kids film, too!

I have never seen the pagemaster. I had heard from my friends that the score was pretty good. And let me tell you the score is fantastic.I loved every minute of the score.Sure you hear some parts from willow like in the Main title track and then you can hear parts of glory, but then the movies theme brakes out into a fanfare, sort like how willow started. If you are a first time Horner fan than this soundtrack will sure to please a first time fan. But if you do not like his self-ripoffs than please save your money. But this soundtrack rocks and it is performed by The London Symphony Orchestra so you are sure in for a performance. Like i said before James Horner YOU DA MAN

The magic does not end when the credits appear on screen, this warm heart warming fantasy brings the world of Richard Tyler. This product has a part to play for evreyone. With simple but enchanteding wounderus music composed by favorite music maker James Horner.

What a great soundtrack by a great composer in James Horner! The music fits the mood and setting of the film perfectly. The beautiful tracks "Main Title" and "New Courage/The Magic of Imagination" are some of the prettiest pieces of music one could wish to hear. The excitement of "Stormy Ride to the Library", "A Narrow Escape", and "The Flying Dragon" lend some diversity to the soundtrack. The adventurous tones of "Meeting Adventure and Fantasy", "Towards the Open Seas", and "Pirates" are just fantastic. There's really something for everyone in this soundtrack. It's definitely worth a look see!

The Pagemaster is a wonderful movie, and so is this music! James Horner has created a masterpiece of music that I absolutely love! The first two songs, all in themselves, reflects the meaning of the whole movie...even their titles do. Dream Away and Whatever You Imagine. They are both beautiful songs that I love.

The actual score is very good as well. They each have a unique sound and are all magnificent. The first handful of songs in the score are the best, then the sounds slowly flatten out, but the end is still wonderful!

All who enjoyed the movie will enjoy this...and even those who didn't will. The music is beautiful and a great structure for the film! Enjoy!

WOW. after all these years lisa Stansfield come back with one great cd. thanks to trevor horn, the vocals are some of the best lisa has done. i am a big stansfield fan, and i really like the newer pop sound, got tired of the R&B thing she was doing before, it all started to sound the same.....with trevor, he helps breath new life into lisa and her work...some of the best songs, easier, when love breaks down, lay your hands on me, the moment, only wish there were more uptempo songs, but all and all.....what a wonderful cd. some people said it took them sometime to get use to the new sound.....i say, bring on more. if your a fan, and love lisa's voice,...then youll love this cd, i cant wait till the next one. thanks lisa. keep up the good work.

THE MOMENT is a new testament of Lisa Stansfield's return in her significant Rochdale's deep crooning vocal styling with the sound of UK-based pop songwriter-producer genius Trevor Horn.

This collaboration brings us yet a few more remarkable hits i.e. TREAT ME LIKE A WOMAN and the consequent WHEN LOVE BREAKS DOWN with Horn's powerful trademark chorus in Stansfield's veteran soulful and seductive package, HE TOUCHES ME/TAKES A WOMAN TO KNOW with Stansfield's further polished and sophisticated all-woman demeanour of a female vocalist, and IF I HADN'T GOT YOU with every positive drug chemistry that will make any geek crave to dive in the dance floor!

Often regarded as the pride and essence of UK pop music, Stansfield proved once again her reign is still way too far from over.

Sound, Music good as previous LP. But not the best as 1st or 2nd albums. If you're the real fan, don't worry go get it.

The last production I bought by Lisa Stansfield was "Face Up" which I felt was a mixed bag of catchy funk and soul numbers with an equal amount of lackluster vocals and melodies. "Face Up" was mediocre compared to "Real Love" or her third album-I can't recall the title-it may have been simply "Lisa Stansfield." (also LOVED the remix cd with that awesome Hex Hector version of "I'm Leavin'")

The Moment is different from Lisa's other CD's, but not at all in a bad way. This is a wonderful CD, which grows on you after the first listen through. In my opinion all of the songs on here a worth listening to more than once. I love this Cd not only because I'm a huge Lisa fan, but because "The Moment" is really, really a great CD that I never get tired of hearing. I cannot wait for Ms. Stansfield's next Cd, which I've heard is in the works, but this time with her husband Ian.

While this box set CD is mana from heaven for Stansfield fans, I really wish they would have splurged and put out a bonus CD of really RARE remixes from the 90s that never made it onto CD - for example, the 11-minute US remix by DJ Mark 45 for ALL AROUND THE WORLD - NEVER officially available on CD anywhere except a promo 4 min edit...or the MORALES mix of WHAT DID I DO TO YOU?...or the MASTERS AT WORK remix of SET YOUR LOVING FREE...or the FRANKIE KNUCKLES remix of CHANGE...I could go on & on - this is the kind of CD that Lisa Stansfield fans hanker for - so why doesn't Arista/BMG finally listen up? Mine the catalog while you still have fans actually buying your CDs instead of downloading - hello?! Still, the box set is value for the money, and a nice place to collect (mostly) all of Lisa's greatest moments.

When this box set finally arrived I felt like a kid in a candy store. I couldn't wait to hear all of the bonus material, especially the Live/Rare/Mixed CD which you cannot find anywhere to buy. Eventhough I already have all of Lisa's Cd's I had to buy this box set for the great bonus material. Boy, was I glad that I did! However, I really would like to see ALL of Blue Zone's material released, their "Big Thing" Cd is great too by the way. Oh, and just to plug Lisa's "The Moment" newest release to date, that one is really great as well.

Each cd comes with nice pocketbooks with lyrics.Bonus songs are nice additions and the box set brings back a lot memories. I got it for $42 from a used cd place but much to my surprise it was in a brand new packaging.Her latest cd "The Moment" is one of the best releases as well.

I didnt know what to expect from this box set of Lisa's work, but I am very pleased with it, if not extactic! All of her albums are here, with new liner notes and packaging. The CDs are Digi-Packs, with new cover art. The insides of the CDs are simple, they contain the CD with a booklet that fits into a slot inside of the front cover. Each booklet has something written about Lisa that focuses on her mind set and how the songs were composed for that particular album. This set also contains a seperate CD that has some rare and remixed songs on it. The box is simple and has Lisa's name on the front,it holds all 6 CDS nicely. All in all, this set is excellent, and I am happy to see it finally released. This is your best chance to find her music this side of the Atlantic, as her music rarely touches our shores. I highly recommend this set, believe me, it is well worth the money!

I really dug Her voice&found Her to Be a solid Artist&when She truly put Her feelings into a Song you felt it.She wasn't generic.this Box Highlights alot of Her strongest moments&it's sad that She kinda got forgotten because Her Voice is way more Soulful than many acts out now who are getting so much hype with half the Chops Lisa Stansfield has.
