Little River Band

I have always loved this band. Alot of nice songs. Brings back a lot of memories in my younger years.

Two good songs-"Cool Change" and and the one with the chorus "Hurry don't be late"
Otherwise forgettable.

I've enjoyed the CD from the day I received it, it's well worth the money

This album is a slightly pared down version of the original Little River Band "Greatest Hits" album, which had all the songs on this CD plus "It's a Long Way There" and "Down on the Border." According to the official Little River Band web site, neither of these songs were released as singles. On the other hand, every one of the songs on this CD was at least a top 40 song, and most were top 10. I do like "It's a Long Way There," so I prefer the original version of the "Greatest Hits" album over this album, but the highly rated original version of "Greatest Hits" featuring 12 songs is available only in limited quantities; it has been replaced by an 18 song version that is much lower rated, probably because it includes many songs of questionable popularity.

The Little River Band was one of those groups whose music was a presence on my radio in the late 70s and early 80s, and still is on pop-rock and classic rock stations. In general their music is enjoyable middle-of-the-road pop. Some of their songs I consider to be outstanding, such as my favorite, "Cool Change." There are others that are more commercial, but still easy on the brain when you are looking for light rock.

The Little River Band created very good middle-of-the-road rock music in the age of disco. That music was wonderful for those of us who preferred what would eventually be called classic rock. However, the group may have had more success had they not been competing with disco.

If you listen to classic rock or remember the 70s very well, most of these songs will be familiar. Some of my other favorites are "Take it Easy on Me", "Lonesome Loser", and "Reminiscing". These are all middle of the road rock songs, occasionally tending toward light rock.

Little River Band was a product of its time and were one of a number of good groups that always are the music of the moment. Their songs are very listenable and enjoyable. If you like Al Stewart (another under-appreciated and barely remembered artist from this era)and Chicago from the late 70s, you should enjoy this compilation of Little River Band's hits.

I listened to these guys growing up and loved every song on this album. I didn't realize till my 20's that the same band had done all of these songs, because they were pretty different sort of like ELO. Also, it is nice to hear music that isn't angry.

If you like The Little River Band, you must add this album to your collection.

I waited until the longer version of "It's A Long Way There" was available and at 8:39 of pure joy it was well worth the wait. I had one or more LP's way back when (those were plastic things that warped if you left them in the car). How they ever got away from my collection is beyond me. Now they are back and I am all the more happy for it. Other reviewers have made note of several other of their wonderful songs so I'll mention one of my favorites, "The Night Owls" - very enjoyable for it's highly danceable beat. Do a slow EC swing, or fast WC, or Samba or even Cha your heart out and know the joy these guys can transmit. Serendipity, pure and simple.

this cd while a good collection is no way a definitive collection. the reason i say that is songs from cds such as playing to win, no reins as well as a few others are missing. the definitive collection could easily be a 2 or 3 disc collection without trying. this cd while worth the price could use more music & hits that are missing,

Little River Band played here last summer and brought back many memories from the past! So I ordered this CD and enjoy it thoroughly!

My era was Sinatra, Como, Crosby. Then Kingston Trio early 60's in SF. Don't know how I missed LRB. Arrangement, harmony, writing, rhythm. Definitive Collection has it!

LRB vocalist Wayne Nelson (who joined the band in 1981 and was lead singer on the top 10 hit "Night Owls") is featured on many cuts here, and the new original "We Call It Christmas" is excellent. Also a great rock version of Neil Diamond's "You Make It Feel Like Christmas", which no one ever covers. Several enjoyable and surprising choices, such as Do They Know It's Christmas, and Celebrate Me Home.

Finally, Little River Band has put out a Christmas CD. Actually I was lucky to purchase this last year but now it's available in quantities almost everywhere thanks to a new distribution deal. It contains everything you expect from the finest band on the planet. Perfect, tight harmonies and brilliant musicianship. This CD contains mostly non-traditional Xmas songs done in their own unique style. One exception is Stephen Housden's from-the-heart instrumental guitar version of Silent Night and another, my favorite, is the band's original The Season of Love creatively penned by Greg Hind and Billy Thomas. Wayne Nelson and Greg Hind continue to deliver striking heart-felt emotion in their lead vocals. As hard as it is to imagine, they seem to get better with age. Also notable are Chris Marion's keyboard work and Rich Herring's guitar leads and of course the production and arrangements are top notch as usual. I highly recommend this CD to anyone with high musical standards. You won't be disappointed.

The Little River Band just keeps putting out great music. This Christmas collection contains some outstanding new music and nice arrangements of existing classics. I especially like the treatment of Kenny Loggins "Celebrate Me Home". This collection also remembers the "Reason for the Season" as several of the songs are wonderful sacred Christmas songs. Although there have been changes in the line-up through the years, the concept of well arranged music being sung and played "exceptionally well", has only gotten better with these guys. Wayne Nelson's lead vocals are as striking as ever, and the tight, clear harmonies are amazing. Only the Eagles and LRB ever got this pure "cool" sound and thank goodness, they are still doing it.

There are three alternate mixes that appear on some copies of this CD. 1) Man on Your Mind (With horns), 2) Night Owls (Heavy Guitar solos), 3) Take It Easy on Me (Wayne Nelson vocals). These versions were recorded at the same time as the final versions. The producer George Martin (Beatles Producer) had produced these versions. These are alternate original mixes that were considered for the original release. Most LRB band members were not happy with the alternate versions being released on the expanded greatest hits in 2000. None the less, they are interesting.

A previous reviewer stated that he/she received a CD that had the correct version of Take It Easy On Me. I wish I had received one of those CDs. I got the messed with version and let me tell you it's bad. this is 8/25/08. If I were you, I'd expect the same disapointing version.

Little River Band has a style that one can listen to at any time in any mood. Great harmony.

I just got a copy of this cd summer of 2007. I've been listening to this on vinyl for many years. From what I've read, early copies of this 2000 release cd mistakenly include the reworked version of "Take It Easy on Me" other reviewers refer to. I read this elsewhere. Mine does not have the reworked version. My copy has the original version. Trust me, it's the original. I have no idea how to tell what copies have the correct version, but you're probably safe with a new purchase now that this cd has been out for about eight years.

I really do not know how many stars to give this. On one hand, the sound quality is excellent! On the other hand, the track order is very different from the original. The original was so good, and they just butchered it. For example, Cool Change was the finale on the original and perfect there. Now it's the third song! Plus, they mixed in this newer crap that was released after the original Greatest Hits. That should have been placed at the end.

Whoever made these poor, poor decisions should be flogged, then fired, then flogged some more. However, don't despair. Rip the cd, then put the original tracks in the orginal order, then burn to a new cd. That's what I'm going to do. Peace.

Honestly I didn't want to hear the whole CD and I just needed one song for an animation that I am creating. However, judging from the reviews and comparing originals to these digital versions, the results reminds me of the Pink Floyd Anthology where the digital version hacks up the original and even omits portions apparently to fit onto the CDs or the artists/record label felt the portions where not something they wanted to keep in their songs.
If you ever heard a song hundreds of times and then get it on CD, you automatically notice things missing, and then those little missing elements appear all over the place and you just can't ignore them.
The record labels need to learn to leave what they think is junk in there especially classics, and just re-master/digitize the thing leaving in the static, back noises and other things that by now are an integral part of the song.
We buy these things because we remember them so offering changes into the product is not suitable.

These are my 2 all-time favorite LRB albums. I have them on vinyl and I was happy to see that they came out on cd, which includes 2 extra tracks, You're Driving Me Out Of My Mind and We Two, which also happen to be my favorite LRB songs. These have been my favorites albums for over 25 yrs. Get it, you won't be disappointed.

If you want to listen to some music with a real "thowback in time" feel, you might want to buy Little River Band's "Sleeper Catcher/Time Exposure" 2 disc CD. When "Sleeper Catcher" came out in l978, Little River Band was swimming more heavily into "soft rock" waters and slowly abondoning their "Crosby, Stills, and Nash" flavor. "Sleeper Catcher" is a very pleasant sounding album with a blend of quality songwriting from group leaders Graham Goble, Glenn Shorrock, and Beeb Birtles. "Time Exposure" was released a few years later in l981 with, essentially, the same band and producer (John Boylan), but with a different musical flavor directed toward "pop" as opposed to "soft rock". "Time Exposure" contains some of LRB's most commerical hits, such as "Take It Easy On Me", "Man on Your Mind", and "The Night Owls". "Time Exposure" was the band's commerical peak with key members slowly disbanding on the albums thereafter. All in all, this 2 disc album is a smart buy for pleasant '70's music with quality songwriting.

For real LRB fans, the fact that this CD contains an far-too-short edited version of "It's a Long Way There" is reason enough to avoid this one. That cut was their magnum opus - how disappointing to have it truncated.

This is mellow rock at its best. I have always liked anything The Little River Band has put out. My favorite tracks are Lonesome Loser, Reminiscing, Lady, Happy Anniversary, Help Is On Its Way and The Night Owls. These are truly LRB gems. They are a true down to earth band with a big sound to them. Reminiscing is about a man who wants his girl to go walking through the park with him and reminiscing about all the good times they had together. Happy Anniversary is about a man wishing his wife a Happy Anniversary and he can't get her off his mind. These two are true love songs. Lady is another love song. This man is telling his wife or girlfriend that he loves her reguardless of what she thinks. Lonesome Loser is about a man who has lost at love and he is very lonesome for affection and he can't get it. All in all The Little River Band will always be one of my favorite bands.

Little River Band is one of the earliest Aussie bands that made huge success in US charts during 70s though early 80s. Particularly late 70s hit sensation was remarkable. I can say this compilation is a nice proof how the musicians of the era created excellent songs still memorable to music fans. CD version from '82 original greatest hits has less tracks than the recent extended version. Yet 12-track version is more than enough for you to enjoy their music. Because all 12 songs are so great.

Among their great songs I would pick...

REMNISCING: This nostalgic hit no doubt represents their entire music career. Also one of the most hard-to-remember-title songs.

LONESOME LOSER: A touch of Styx or Kansas dramatic progressive hard rock style. I used to misrecongnize this song as Kansas's CARRY ON WAYWARD SON.(Introducing part is so similar).

TAKE IT EASY ON ME: Feel of westcoast rock, somewhat Eagles or Jackson Browne styled.

LADY: Masterpiece ballad track that can easily rival Eagles and Abba.

Verdict: Shorter than recent version but still keeps core hits.
Rating: 92 out of 100
Recommended: Anyone who like late 70s rock. Particularly Eagles, Doobie Brothers, and some of Styx fans.

the sound quality is excellent. so clean and crisp. but the original versions of man on your mind, night owl and take it easy on me are other versions. not to my likeing.

I originally purchased this album because I remembered a couple of songs, and I got it for a really good price. Then, as I listened to the CD, I realized that I had heard most of the songs on this CD. The music is good, which at first might make you wonder why the Little River Band isn't one of rock's greats. Part of the problem may have been that they were in the right place at the wrong time. The Little River Band was churning out rock music in the age of disco. Bad timing/good timing. Bad timing because they had decent music that, while having an occasional flavor of disco, remained pop-rock. Good timing because those of us that weren't disco fans were listening to the alternatives, Little River Band being one of those.

This is a great first album by LRB. I am very happy that I finally found it, now I can replace my record and cassette tape.

I looked for a very long time trying to find the extended version of "Long Way There" on other sources, but finally resorted to puchasing this album. It's a hard one to find, and Amazon was the only place I did find it finally. I'm not sure its worth the price of the entire CD for just one song, but it is one of my six all-time favorite rockers, so I bought it. Not real thrilled with the rest of the cuts, but to each his own.

Little River Band is my ALL time favorite band! Their title album is one of the greatest album's ever. The song "Long Way There" is one of my favorite songs. If you want music at its finest, I recommend this CD to EVERYONE! I would also recommend "Sleeper Catcher" 5 stars!

The first album recorded by the Australian Little River Band is probably their finest apart from their second album After Hours. Prior to their MOR/Pop personna of the 80's this album has their original rock/jazz/country fusion laced with impressive harmonies. Along with Mellencamps' Scarecrow and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road a must have for an album collection.

LRB's first album has great harmony vocals and some good guitar work. The fact that it has the original version of "It's A Long Way There" makes it worth the price, which is incredibly low considering this is an import. Other good songs are "Meanwhile...", "Emma", and "I Know It".

This is an excellent representation of the original lineup of this band live. The recording quality is good...the bass is a tad boomy and muddy in spots.. but the sound is clean and clear. The 2nd side has several tracks that were obviosuly derived from lp's (as there are very noticeable scratches, ticks and pops present)....I dont know why this wasn't cleaned and remastered...a shortcoming that really hurt a great concert.

I plan to check into the other version available....hopefully it was taken from the master tapes.

I still give this a 5 star rating...just because the performance is worth having and it earned it.

This is a terrific collection of songs. I discovered this double CD set while searching for an affordable CD copy of "Sweetheart" by Franke & the Knockouts. There was no other affordable CD copy anywhere...and it was truly affordable when I bought it here at Amazon--less than $15. As I write this, Amazon apparently no longer carries this CD collection, and the lowest price for it is $40!

Also, for some strange reason the current page is obviously showing the writers of the songs, and not the artists. All the artists on these two CDs are the original ones, and the songs are the original versions. The songs sound great, too, on my iPod. I'm just sorry to see the CD set is no longer what I would consider "affordable".

This is absolutely amazing, the best LRB cd that I have found. Totally awesome, tight and rockin!
