This is a superb collection of one of the best reggae musicians of all times who is known much more in Africa than in the Western hemisphere. He was tragically killed last year but the initial track on this album captures both his music and his life: Nobody can stop reggae. I cannot recommend it more highly.

I Love You Lucky cause you know what you're singing about, and if you get this Cd you'll know too. Every time I can't find it I most buy a new one :) Get one and get hooked. Lucky is the best drug on the market, and it's healthy too. Come on everybody let's get Lucky and have some fun.

This is far my favorite album of Lucky Dube--"House of exile". I saw him in concert in Aruba in April of '98 and it was the best reggae concert I've ever been to!! His music is awesome!!

This is a definite must have CD!!!! I have all of Lucky Dube's cd's and this is not only my Favorite Lucky Dube cd but it is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Reggae cd(I have a fairly large collecton over 150+reggae cd's). What I love about this man is his Lyrics-PEACE,RESPECT,and UNDERSTANDING EACH OTHERS DIFFERENCES, And accepting each other for these differences. They touch my heart and soul and ALWAYS have a positive message. He has had such an emormus impact on the way I think, And my personal politics- and his music is always very polictical, but with a very warm, positive, uplifting message! I finally had a chance to see him live back in April of 2000 and he is just the same live as he is on cd-very emotionally driven and charismatic.

Great cd but I received two cd's of the same and I only ordered one. Now I have to pay for 2 identical cd's.

Luke Dube sings from the soul. You can feel his singing. He will be missed by all who love him, his music, and what he stood for.

I have this cd on my disc changer. I have changed every cd, but this one stays. It has it all. Love, politics, lose, and etc. You will not be disappointed with this cd.

I really enjoyed all the original works on this cd. Lucky Dube is a nice surprise from the traditional reggae with a real message to preach!

Trust me, if you like this, you haven't heard nothing yet. The original Albums are the bomb This is like a sample. For all who are just catching on, you were lost, this is only part of catching up.Now that you found him, you can get your Lucky too I Love "I Got You Babe" and you will too.

This album is packed with Lucky Dube's own unique style of Reggae music - something of a combination of South African pop and the Jamaican style reggae. Just to listen to this music conjures up lively images of a people with dignity and courage. And then..listen to the lyrics, they are more than thought provoking. Learn from them, they are a lesson to us all - whoever we are! Lucky Dube is a truly remarkable artist!

Simply This is The Best of Lucky Dube...and my Advice to you is..... if you haven't listend to it yet ...then go a head and buy it now...and belive me ..you will never lose your money.....

The thought provoking lyrics, mellow melodies and graceful tunes make this my most precious CD. Lucky Dube is arguably the BEST reggae star. Whether its at a party, at work or driving, the music never gets old and always has the desired effect. A must listen.

I believe the BBC cited the song "Number in a book", the opening song of this album in an article on the untimely death of Lucky Dube, words very pertinent to the crisis of violence in South Africa that even cost Lucky Dube his life. I know you must be in heaven good man.

On to this album, it's got a good share of dub and when you touch on African rhythms as one reviewer said and it's not King Sunny Ade by any means, it works. Of course, Dube did do other music before getting involved in reggae. That being said, the accompanying singers are usually women but the roots is there too. Quite a bit of keyboard/straight organ work here too.

Besides the opener every song is a winner, intense messages mostly maybe 2 love songs, relaxing vibes and a pretty good morality. Is a good combination, powerful words if not always the most powerful rhythms I humbly opine. The title song, "The other side" works well enough and is one more reggae song talking about "going back to Africa"; but in Dube's case, he is telling us, "hey, sometimes the grass is green on the other side" versus what they might sing out in Jamaica. The single word titles of almost 3 of the last 4 songs, "Soldier", "The Bully" and "Hero" (maybe this one even reflecting on 911 in an indirect way) come along alright. "Divorce Party" and "The cool down" yes seem to deal with marital fidelity and isn't Lucky's view actually rather orthodox to the institution of marriage. "Family Ties", yes, this is a bit in the same vein as "Number in the book" and somewhat haunting at that.

I don't find overwhelming rhythms here as in some reggae but I don't see that in Alpha Blondy's songs either. Maybe it's partly a cultural difference and how we see music in the west.

I did not know Lucky Dube before I heard him at the Lugano Estival Jazz, in summer 05. I am totaly taken by this music! The whole band lays a mildly grooving carpet to his masters beautiful voice. I bought The Other Side along with Soul Taker because they are the newest albums and thus came closest to the live concert.

This guy is a perrenial reggae favorite of mine. Talk about consistency man. I think with Jamaican artists (contemporarily) they get too caught up with trying to adapt to the popular Yankee market (i.e. try to be too hip-hoppish, most times). African cats on the other hand are more true to their style, their soul, their game, hence; their music. This is why I like Dube alongside his beautiful melodies, harmonies, signature keyboard tone, style, awesome band and back-up voices. A champion of roots reggae!

- Lucky Dube returns to his roots with his signature roots rock reggae sound combined with organ, guitar and sweet background vocals (now including his daughter). If you liked "Trinity" or "Serious Reggae", you will love this one.

It moves your soul with his lyrical treatment of such issues as AIDS, political strife and the most interesting song I've heard called "The Other Side". This one deals with the tendency of African descendants from all over the world to long for a life in their ancestral homeland while many in Africa just dream for the chance to leave. How many reggae songs have you heard about reuniting with African homeland? He casts no value judgment on who is right and who is wrong, but since he has witnessed both sides, he passionately vocalizes the truth that we are all animals of the "grass is always greener" mentality.

A great find for both veteran reggae lovers and new converts ready to move on from the Bob Marley "Legend" training wheels into something equally moving but less overplayed.

His new album THE OTHER SIDE continues to present a fine blend of African, reggae beats and stirring vocals, providing ten new songs on social issues ranging from sexual responsibility in a world of AIDS to longing for a different world.

Anyone who follow Lucky Dube's Music won't regret adding this music CD to their collection.

I first heard Lucky Dube's music while visiting the Caribbean. The sound so captured my attention that I just had to order this CD upon returning to the States.

Dube's incredible vocal range alone is well worth a listen, but combine that with South African instrumentation and a Reggae style reminicent of Marley / Tosh...you just can't go wrong with this one.

Some times i use to ask myself many questions:how come the man like him (Lucky Dube)use to sing about what will happen in the future e.g crazy world "people are dieng like fries" it's an old song but nowadays people are every day as a result of war&crimes,hunger,environmental factors etc.guys keep on tune to reggea music just for a peace of word it says as the kill of the pain, let Jah kingdom be praised. in the name of Jah i can say keep on touch JAH!

South Africa's "King of Reggae", Lucky Dube, comes on strong with 1999's award winning release "The Way It Is" As always, Dube showcases his diverse style mixing his African roots with today's popular sound. This release is a textured mixture of South African rhythms, Spanish guitars, and a bit of a rock n roll flavored guitar work reminicent of Pink Floyd on the track "Man in The City". Dube makes the most of his incredible vocal range as never before on many of the cd's tracks, most notably on "The Show Goes On" and "Man in The Mirror". This cd is a "must have" for Reggae and World Music lovers as it's diversity crosses over into the realm of popular music, that can be enjoyed by everyone today.

No doubt, Lucky Dube is one of the great reggae artists ever, sadly taken from us too early, just like Bob Marley. "Teach the World" has to be one of the greatest songs ever--regardless of genre. Songe for son, the CD is filled with songs that will keep Soul Taker at the top of your playlist.

A must for all Dube fans.This album showcases Dube at his very best.The opening song makes you shiver in excitement....can tell right away that this is something very very special.Phew!!Soul Taker....man...Reggae at its undescribable best.

Besides having 5 to 10 Cds remade with a mixtures of all his hits in each one of them...I'm proud and very excited to have had the chance to listen to this piece of arts...I'm presuming you'll be honored as well to own this CD and cherish it as much as I do....The fact that Lucky took a risk by introducing somewhat of an orchestra to his songs (a first) was just amazingly done and perfect...I own every Cds I could ever put my paws on and I'm to tell you this is the best so far, that doesn't mean any of his last hits has gotten old it's just in the same running also...give it a try you'll enjoy it if ur a lucky Dube fan.

Soul Taker is an explosive assembly of some of the hottest and creative reggae music I have heard in a very long time. Lucky Dube is simply it. His bold message filled with truth and candid facts will move even the passive reggae follower.

The lyrical content of this piece is perfect. I loved every song on the Album particlarly Sleeping Dogs, Money money money, Is this freedom, Fugitive, Good Girl, Put a little love.

Dube will need to collaborate with other artist like SEAL, Beanie Man, Sean Paul, Sade Adu, WyClef and No Doubt in other to expand the base of those who follow his music.

The Album Soul Taker is worth the price tag. Dube, keep preaching your message and change none.

If you've never listened to Lucky Dube before, this CD is a good choice as it's got lots of great songs that give a flavor for the genius that was Lucky Dube. If you love his music, this one will round out your collection nicely.

Another great collection from a reggae master with a gift for writing ...... not always seen in reggae. Sad that there will be no more!

Lucky Dube was one of my favorite artists, reggae or otherwise. But I found Respect to be somewhat of a disappointment, without the standout tracks of Prisoner or The Other Side, and without the wonderfully moving variations of Soul Taker. The pace never really changes.

The lyrics are top notch, however, and enough to make you hurt for the loss of a great man. In Celebrate Life, he sings "Some people don't know what life is worth, some people have the front row seat at the gates of hell, you could be having problems right now, but there's no problem worth your life. People fight to stay alive every day, cause they know, life is worth more than worries. So you got take what you can when you can, make the best of it." So true.

This is a fantastic album by a fantastic artist! The world has truly lost an angel and a prophet with the passing of Lucky Dube. Truly a legend of our time! I am sad to say I will never see him in concert. :(

lucky dube was one of the greatest reggea artists since bob marley and it's a shame we have lost him to senseless violence but such is the way of babylon anyways this album is his greatest work it's a shame we will not be able to hear what other masterpieces he could have created with this new sound that developed on this album but i do strongly recommend that you buy this album

A small shout out to Lucky Dube upon hearing the news that he was killed this week by carjackers; he was and still is the most gifted reggae artist to come from the motherland. I was privileged to see him twice this summer in Colorado & New Orleans. Black people, we're going to kill ourselves into extinction if we don't stop this madness.

This is his final CD and a testament to the great music he has been making for years. However this one signalled a new height in its sound and lyrics. A beautiful final statement by a beautiful African Brother...

I have my copy from South Africa since the album release (2006) This album is worth the buy, it's contain great music that I'm sure you will enjoy; my favorites songs are respect, shembe, changing the world, shut up and monster. There is a song "dedicated" to politicians (political games); it's always good to have somebody ( Lucky Dube) to stand and speak truth in behalf of his people. It's really sad to know that now he is gone.I don't think in my lifetime to see someone to make music like Lucky Dube did since Peter Tosh and Bob Maley ever again. Thanks Lucky for leaving us your great music. Enjoy this great album.
