I am really worried Madonna is going to have an on stage incontinence accident really soon....and those undies look HUGE!

Sad music by a person who should spend less time doing onstage impersonations of a 1980's 20yr old and more time trying to save her marriage, and Africa.

Madge, you just pumped this out to finish out your contract with Warner. We all know that. You could have done much better. This pales in comparison with Confessions on a Dance Floor. There are a few good tracks though so it's not a total waste, but definitely not a "must" for your collection.

Madonna when Justin calls you again, don't answer.

Madonna is the only good thing about this album. The music is horrible. It has no depth and it sounds like a computer. I know a lot of artists use computers to create different sounds and rhythms. I also know that the challenge is to make it sound like it's not being done by a computer. The team of people working with Madonna on Hard Candy failed horribly. The production is distracting when Madonna shines. Madonna's vocals are not on the same page as the laughable "music" behind her fumbles on.

Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, and Nate "Danja" Hills - how could this album have been anything but bad? Madonna would have had better luck teaming up with a toaster.

It's really unfortunate because Confessions was really well crafted.

I thought she got old and not creative.
I was wrong.
Great great songs for years to come.

At least "Candy Shop"
will make you feel like "18 to 22" again.
"She's Not Me" will make you dance again.

I'm not sure what to think of Hard Candy. There's so much to love about it, and yet so much stuff that's so hard to swallow. It's an anomaly in Madonna's career; rather than go her own ways and explore little-known genres or at least make them her own - like she's always done - she explores the semi-hiphop dance flora. Rather than be the risk-taking pioneer, she's joined the club. This is precisely why Hard Candy may be her weakest effort in terms of character.

Don't get me wrong; Hard Candy is full of wonderful songs, excellently crafted and atmospheric. It's just that its principal problem is that Madonna takes a somewhat 'backseat' to it. She hired Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Kanye West to produce it with her rather than engage in a one-on-one musical collaboration as she's been doing throughout the course of her career, more or less. Sadly, this shows. Ray of Light has personality. Confessions on a Dance Floor for sure has personality. Hard Candy doesn't have that personality - even its title sounds like a sell-out. As I listen to it, I wonder what inspired Madonna to make it.

"Candy Shop" is such a weak track, I'm surprised Madonna put it on the album at all, let alone made it the opener. "4 Minutes"'s flair wears off fairly quickly. "Give it 2 Me" is admittedly a very catchy track, but my sister's comments on the accompanying video still ring in my ears when I listen to it - "It must be hard to have to hold on to her sex symbol status at the age of 50". But the thing is, ever since Ray of Light, this hasn't presented a problem. Ever since Ray of Light, everybody said Madonna grew up, and that remains the album where my following of Madonna's music takes off, where she gained unlimited producing freedom and - more importantly - started exploring a certain maturity to her music. All that is out the window with Hard Candy. Some songs even go as far as having rap interludes, whether by Kanye West or others, and this just feels incredibly 'cheap'. It's as though M's previous four effors never happened. Where's the woman who consistently risks everything by going her own way, in order to make original music? It's only in a handful of tracks - primarily during "Voices" - where her vocal maturity actually shines through, too.

To give her right, however, Madonna shows on this album that in spite of lack of personality, this album bears her musical touch. Immediately after "Give it 2 Me", it's as though somebody puts on a different album, because "Heartbeat" is a wonderful surprise. The lyrics aren't the most original - about feeling alive on the dance floor - but it's a really moving song. The melancholic "Miles Away" takes the atmosphere even further. "She's Not Me" starts out cheeky and fun, but towards the end it becomes really engaging. "Incredible" is great, too, but it again pinpoints the 'backseat' approach - right out of nowhere, Madge chimes "Sex with you is - incredible." Way to knock you out of a trance.

"Beat Goes On" and "Dance 2Night" are okay dance tracks. But the three closing tracks form a solid streak of diverse yet enveloping songs. "Spanish Lesson" sounds exactly as it sounds, and is definitely a personality of a song to take in (if it weren't for the "get up on the dancefloor" bits, that is). "Devil Wouldn't Recognise You" again touches upon the melancholic strings, and is a joy to listen to.

However, it's the closer, "Voices", that casts my doubts about this album into the deepest abyss. Not an overly-long track - it stops just when it's at its height - it is a truly breathtaking number; in my opinion one of Madonna's deeper and more mysterious songs. It's a musical mindscape, and certainly one of this album's best reasons for being. If only the "Candy Shops" and rap monologues had been scrapped to explore this kind of sound further.

In conclusion, I am as confused as when I started. On the one hand, it's evident that Madonna didn't try as hard to give this album personality as she's always done, and - worse - chucked out a couple of average tracks. On the other, there's plenty of good music to be had here, ranging from catchy to breathtakingly compelling. How do I rank this? In the end, for lack of personality this album gets a minus. For a number of wonderful tracks (despite some cheap bits here and there), it deserves a loud applause. Hard Candy lacks that originality and productional coherence which shone through Confessions on a Dance Floor, and Madonna needs to remember that she is fully capable of making good music by being true to herself. The cover art is downright scary - it makes Madge look much older than she truly does. But what frightens me when I listen to the album is the inescapable feeling I get that Madonna herself may fear that she's losing her touch. I pray that I'm wrong, and that the most compelling musical artist in history will again show us that she can still kick musical butt.

I've owned this 1990 CD release since 1993. It was the first CD I ever bought. This CD covers Madonna's best songs from her 1983-1989 albums. Everything from "Holiday" to "Vogue". All of these songs are rerecorded versions of the originals, so they sound a little different than the originals. Thankfully they didn't stray too far from the originals though. They are not crappy remixes or anything of that nature, just slightly updated for the time (1990). This is still one of my favorite CD's of my ever growing collection. I love about 15 of the 18 total songs, and that's unheard of!

This is a great collection of all of my favorite Madonna songs. I miss the Madonna of the 80's, so this was my ideal choice of Greatest Hits. Love it!

This is a collection of Madonna's greatest hits from the start of her music to 1990. Poppy gospel music, Madonna remains controvserial and popular despite her age, pushing 50 or 60 by now. Gospel shock pop.

By the time this collection was released in 1990, Madonna had already made about 90% of her most essential recordings, so there certainly are several great songs here. However, this collection is flawed in a couple of ways. Some of her most essential songs, such as "Holiday," "Borderline," "Like A Virgin," and "Like A Prayer" are all here, as they well should be. However, if you listen closely, you'll notice that many of the songs sound considerably different than they did on the LPs or cassettes that you had in the 80s. Also, some of the songs (noticeably "Borderline") have had quite a bit of their original length chopped off. Finally, there are some less-than-subtle omissions. "Dress You Up," "Angel," "True Blue," and "Causing A Commotion," which were all big hits, are curiously absent. What Madonna needs at this point is one of those Columbia/Legacy "The Essential" anthologies, because it's impossible to collect all of Madonna's greatest on a single disc, and it's somewhat surprising that after this much time, this album, along with GHV2 (which concentrates exclusively on the 90s) are the only Madonna hits collections available.

The DVD excelent conditions, but in the music one track doesnt work....Well I dont expect so much because it was used....But The Confessions Tour its the best of Madonna!!!...

For anyone who loves madonna and pop music...this is a mandatory buy and for those who dont...buy this and you will start loving her. One cant imagine that this women is nearing 50. Truly a diva....

This is a great DVD/CD combo. The artistry is second to none by Madonna, and it gets me in the mood for the weekend, for work, or for housework!

I've been a Madonna a fan since 1982 and eveything she has done since the year 2000, has not been so great. I purchased this album because of the concert and live cd with it. I was not impressed with the show at all. I believe it's her 2nd to worst tour so far(her worst being Drowned World Tour) but some parts in the show were good.

The CD was just ok, mostly the same stuff as the concert. Hopefully Madonna has a better setlist for her Hard Candy Tour. She needs to add more old stuff, songs we haven't heard in a long time. I would love to hear her sing songs from the 1986-1989 era. That was my favorite Madonna era!

I am not going to write a lot.... just get it. Plus it comes with the live CD also. Neat!

A must to own this Maxi-Single for all the Madonna's ardent fans out there. I was in Sydney, NSW, Australia recently and the Club DJ spin "Give it 2 Me" Oakenfold Extended Remix and the Dance floor became massive. This is definately another solidified collaboration taken from her "Hard Candy" Album.

I'm a huge, long-time Madonna fan. I buy every single with great anticipation. And I have to say this is one of the worst collections of remixes of one of her songs I've ever heard. They are all so tedious and routine. They show no inspiration, nor any respect to the original track. I really expected better...especially considering "Give It 2 Me" is my favorite track off of "Hard Candy". Nevertheless, three cheers to Madonna for being one of the few artists left that still releases CD-singles here in the US.

This is a unbeleivable dance music CD. Very nice job by Madonna. If you love rythmic dance music, buy this album, its worth it. I am giving five star, bcz all tracks are beautiful. WoW.............

Madonna just never stops bringing it. It's one thing to make it to the top, it's another thing to stay there and go the distance like she has. 1st time I listened to this CD all I could say was, "she delivered again". Thank you Madonna for still giving us tunes to rock it out to over all these years.

There are more than a few sublime moments on this album and it was hard for me to beleive the style and lyrical stance on this album were coming from Madonna when I first heard it. Wow, this one gave me a new respect for her, not that I was ever an 80s Madonna fan. But really, this is a nice album and you just get the feeling that the artist is being true to her time in life, and has broadened - there's a more spiritual vibe (not preachy or over-done as the Amazon review seems to imply, but subtly and tastefully executed and with all the emotional depth that you'd expect of a superstar of her stature - or perhaps I should say with MORE emotional depth than I expected! Electronica suits her well. It almost adds a psychedelic dimension. I enjoy this kind of music, at once accessible and sophisticated. It'll get in your bones too, don't worry about that - well, only took me ten years to discover this album! If by some freak of nature, you haven't yet, you're in for a treat I think, whether you liked 80s Madonna or not (and I never was a fan) - this album would fit well in any collection, and they're selling for the price of the postage on Amazon..

Ray of light is a powerful excursion into a cosmic world of amazing depth. William Orbit is a genius. Madonna has never sounded better. The songs are very spiritual and playful. This album represents two artists at top of their game. Madonna and william Orbit are a great combination. I hope they do another album together. Ray of light is HIGHLY reccommended!!!

The "Mother Of Reinvention" reinvented herself noticeably for this album, but unfortunately it just doesn't work in this case. Not that it's completely worthless (the title track, the beautiful "The Power Of Goodbye" and "Little Star" are worth hearing), but this overlong album is largely uncharacteristic for Madonna, lacking the all-out feelgoodness of her 1st 2 albums and the robust maturity of ones like "True Blue" and "Like A Prayer." Her average singing ability is not at its best here, much of the album is rather bland both lyrically and melodically, and it's filled with too many weird techno sounds that make it even more strange.

Forever a fan. I still have the "Ray of Light" cassette tape I bought in 98', along with the ROL CD and of course a few single remixes from this album. Timeless and classic. Every single song on this CD stands out on its own merit and artistic value. Each song blends and molds perfectly for what I consider to be her greatest masterpiece so far.

For ten years now I have been listening to this CD and not once have I got bored or tired of it. Each play is like hearing it for the first time and falling in love with it all over again. The videos that accompanied the songs from this album only highlight how "full on" in harmony she was for this entire project. Everything was as it should be. And it glowed radiantly, still does.

With the release of her latest album, Hard Candy, which I was less than pleased with, what a comforting gem Ray of Light has been as it showcases her true talent in all its glory.

i didnt really think that i would enjoy this cd even though i really enjoyed "Ray of Light" as a song. But i was seriously wrong and minus maybe one misstep on the cd the rest of "Ray of Light" is one of my favorite Madonna cds (at least of the 3 that i have so far). Madonna really does her thing on this cd both writing and singing as well which in my opinion hasn't always been one of her strong suits. Nothing against it though just something i've noticed before.

But none of that is a problem this time around and its no wonder the cd has done so well. It has a diverse, unique yet familiar sound that will draw folks to it and keep them there throughout. So forget what you've though about her music in the past with Ray of Light, Madonna is making a statement with this one and its one that should be heard by any and everyone that enjoys music, period. Its pop, electronica and a few other things mixed in creating one of my favorite albums of that time and now.

One of the GREATEST album ever. After so many years, this is still my favourite and BEST Madonna's album (I am sure all Madonna's die-hard fans will agree with me). I love every track on the album (even the last track!!!). (If you still can) Check out the remixes for LIKE A PRAYER, EXPRESS YOURSELF, CHERISH, KEEP IT TOGETHER. 1. Like A Prayer - Rocks the church floor with an "in-your-face" sexuality. The sexual lyrics are a mix of the erotic with a sweeping sense of gospel. Seems an odd mix of musical styles, but this works. It works in the sense of a great dance song, the verses are your invitation to stretch and become cognitive. Just before your mind becomes mundane with thoughts of "deep", you are on a trip down the waterfall to the overtly melodic chorus.

2. Express Yourself - The album version of this song leaves so much to be desired to the "dance" ear. The guitar riffs are replaced with a bass line that induces the listener to move. This song is pure extacy on all levels. The lyrics leave you feeling independent, but happy and filled with freedom. One must listen to the "Immaculate Collection" version with Q-Sound to enter into this greatness

3. Love Song - This track is throw away, at best. The instrumentation is minimal as are the vocals. Prince has written this track as an homage to himself. He must have thoughts of greatness and infallibility to think, for a moment, that anyone would enjoy this potpourri of sounds. Madonna must have assumed that having Prince as a guest would boost sales of her LP, perhaps it did.

4. Till Death Do Us Part - Sean Penn and Madonna, Sean Penn and the press, this auto-marriage tale of wedded hell is very pleasant to the listener. It has been said that hard times are good for the artist, true for Madonna here. This pop song begins with a staccato synth line that draws you in and smashes you around the dance floor. Glass smashing and Madonna's voice, how can this be wrong? It isn't.

5. Promise To Try - One of the first in a long line of tracks about Madonna's mother. This ballad plays well in "Truth Or Dare" against the backdrop of a cemetery. A ballad just does not play well with the Madonna fan. We like to dance. We don't like to cry. "Little girl, don't you forget her name...."

6. Cherish - "Boo-boo-be-doo".... Please oh please Madonna. Cherish is Madonna's attempt to re-invent the "True Blue" era. This doesn't work here for several reasons. The synth lines are more suited to the late seventies disco. Most of the seventies riffs worked, but not with this composition. The lyrical content is immature and reeks of adolescent love.

7. Dear Jessie - An homage to youth. An almost danceable track that takes off where "Cherish" ended with the attempt to revert back to childhood. Not a very good track. Leaves you with a dull feeling.

8. Oh Father - Madonna's not an author. This song is Madonna's attempt to write a novel, that didn't work, so she decided to put her words into a song. Perhaps a better idea. But, again, paternal abuse and dance just DO NOT BELONG together. What Madonna was attempting to do with this trashy ballad is beyond me. NEXT!

9. Keep It Together - A bass line with a synth over-lay. Perfection in pop dance. I adore this song for it's simplistic, familial lyrics and equally simplistic composition.

10. Spanish Eyes - Another ballad with a slightly sexual-religious tone. Madonna seems to be infatuated with a certain Latin man and attempts to write a song about it. Please....

11. Act Of Contrition - Contains reverse samples of "Like A Prayer" within a record scratching, ear piercing, hodgepodge of crap whilst Madonna is reciting the Act Of Contrition from the Roman Rite.... Stupidity doesn't work, EVER.

All in all this LP is a good collection. The negative tracks are eclipsed by the dance tracks and Madonna's power as a dance artist is certain here.

For those of us who ran to the record store on March 21, 1989 to grab Madonna's fourth (and widely considered 2nd best album ever - behind Ray of Light) were pleasantly surprised.... sort of.
It seems Madonna had the initial pressing of albums and cassettes scented with her favorite scent - Patchouli - which my cassette STILL smells of 19 years later!

As for the music, "Like A Virgin" showed a lot more growth musically for Madonna. Instead of 10 dance infused numbers, this set included some heavy material in song. She addressed her mother's death on "Promise To Try" and the end of her marriage to Sean Penn on "Til Death Do Us Part". Otherwise, Madonna kept the party light with her signature carefree, bouncy, pop creations we all loved.

Along with the title track, "Express Yourself" helped nickname Madonna the "Stainless Steel Sex Symbol" for her ability to dodge controversy no matter the subject matter. "Cherish" and "Keep It Together" also continued the dance party theme.

Aside from the controversies that accompanied the album (Pepsi, Like A Virgin Video) this is Madonna at her best and 12 million plus copies sold can attest to the power the Material Girl was gaining on her continued feat to "Rule The World" as she had famously advise Dick Clark on American Bandstand 5 years earlier.

She may not have ruled the world (yet) but she was certainly ruling the charts.

Classic,A Must Have,And One of My Favorites Of Madonna.And Is One Of My Last 5 Star albums Of Madonna

I love Madonna's music.

Even though she changes direction so often with both her sound and image,I ALWAYS buy her album without even reading reviews or listening to previews because I can almost GURANTEE I will love it(and you shouldn't listen to reviews all the time because the critics seemed to hate American life,but I personally think it is some of Madonna's best and most personal work).

And despite owning ALL of Madonna's albums...

I am NOT a crazy Madonna fan,who just blindly worships her like some idol.

I don't think she has anything close to one of the 'best' or 'strongest' voices in the music industry but I do think she has an incredibly versatile voice that seems to suit whatever she sings well.

True Blue is ONE of my favourite albums of her's(others are Madonna,American Life,The Immaculate Collection & Hard Candy).

Her is my opinion on each song individually...

1.Papa Don't Preach-This song is considered a Madonna classic,but it annoys me a little(I don't know why,maybe because of the Kelly Osborne association),sometimes I like it,sometimes I HATE it.
I'm going to give it 7/10

2.Open Your Heart-I absolutely LOVE this song.It excites me every time I hear it and reminds me of a certain someone!And it ALWAYS makes me want to dance and jump around!

3.White Heat-Since I only recently bought this album,I also only recently heard this song...and I am shocked it was not released as a single!
It has to be one of the most catchy Madonna songs ever!
I even bought the movie White Heat because of this song,because I was so intrigued as to was it was about!

4.Live To Tell-I believe Madonna has said this is her favourite out of all her songs.
I disagree!
While it is a powerful and moving song,to me it is also slightly boring and I must prefer her song Take a Bow(not on this album,but I think it is more moving).

The Eva Peron voice, although hailed, sucks compared to the vocals on this LP. Madonna's vocals are pure and perfect, wrapped in the wonderful melodies. Pat and Stephen are in great form here too, add "Spotlight" and you've a perfect pop album for all the time capsules.

This album is magical and pure genius. With this album madonna became the biggest star in the world and has remained that way ever since. She is the greatest and most talented artist in the business not to mention the smartest and the one with the most staying power. The songs Live to tell, Papa don't preach, Open your heart, La isla bonita, and true blue are considered classic 20 years later especially now with this remastered version. EXCELLENT madonna.

An artist's biggest fear: The sophomore slump.

The industry's nickname of when a new artist fails to match or best the success of their first release. As we all know, this was not an issue with Madonna. And on November 12, 1984, we all witnessed the now "Material Girls" meteoric rise to superstardom.

What was apparent was what was on the horizon. Controversy.

Titling an album with the word "Virgin" was pretty gutsy in 1984. And what happened on the very first MTV video music awards had some in shock. But, like it or not, Madonna had found America's "button" and she pushed it with glee.

Labeled "An annoying one-hit-wonder, with the voice of Minnie Mouse on helium", Madonna's second album found her branching out to new musical genres. Pop, R&B, and a first for Madonna, ballads.

Selling almost 20 Million copies worldwide, this is Madonna's second album, and a fine example of what was happening musically in 1984.

This is probably Madonna's most Popular and well known Album.
Out of all of her 80's Albums its not my Favourite Album, "Like A Prayer is, after that "True Blue" is my fave, and Behind that is "Madonna" her debuet, and since "Into The Groove" isnt on this CD it looses a star. But this is a fun pop Album. My Favourite songs are "Material Girl" "Like A Virgin", "Angel" and "Dress You Up". ( Basically the singles ). I also like "Stay", but I feel like the other tracks "Over and Over", "Love Don't Live Here Anymore", and "Pretender" are basically filler, even though fun. Out of the filler tracks "LDLHA" IS My fave as it was Madonna's first attempt at a Epic Ballad, though they would get much better on her next album like "Live To Tell". Two bonus tracks are included however. They are extended remixes of "Like A Virgin", and "Material Girl" remixed by the Albums producer John Jellybean Benitez. This is a Definitive MTV Album, and also a Definitive Pop Culture Album. This is for Madonna, what "Thriller" was for Michael Jackson....Of course the flashy video's for the Title track , and For "Material Girl" ( Who could forget Madonna as Marilyn Monroe in that Pink Dress ) and 1984 MTV Video Music Awards Performance of Like A Virgin helped. They were Defining moments in Pop Culture, and this Album deserves it's place in Pop Culture. It just sucks that "Into The Groove" wasn't included on this Remastered Warner Bros release like it was on the 1985 Re Release. It would have also been nice is "Crazy For You" was on here too. Overall the Sound Quality is Excellent. The Album is worth the Money for the Iconic Cover Alone.

After her classic debut, there must've been a lot of speculation about whether or not Madonna could make something as great or better again, as it has been proven over the years that many artists don't. Not Madonna. Arguably her best album and certainly no worse than her debut, it contains four of her most signature songs, "Dress You Up", "Material Girl", "Angel" and the absolutely classic title track. All of these are some of the most exemplary pieces of 80s pop, and the world would have been much different (not in a good way) without them.

I love this album, and the music itself easily deserves five stars, but whoever took upon the task of remastering it did a little too much tweaking, and some of Madonna's great classics like "Dress You Up" and "Like A Virgin" sound noticeably different here than what we've come to know and love over the years.
