Mando Diao

Mando Diao's probably the best Swedish band ever. Ode to Ochrasy is their third studio album. The variation of the songs on this album is wide. Although moast of the songs are similar to each other, each one has it's own unique style and sound. I would call Mando's music "happy-deep" rock. It makes you feel good and puts you into a better mood then you were in before, but you also feel the lyrics and what the guys want to say.

I would like to recommend the songs "Long before rock'n roll" and "The wildefire (If it was true)" There are awesome!

sorry folks, but this band may not be in steep decline, but they sure are living the old adage of the "law of diminishing returns".
the 1st album was near perfect, while the 2nd one only had near perfect moments.
along comes the 3rd record, and guess what? not nearly as good as the first two. there really is nothing wrong with the playing and singing. it just seems like the writing is letting this band down.
oh, nothing on here sucks to be sure, but it's just that everything here is so forgettable it leaves one wondering if they're completely out of ideas this far into their short career.
don't get me wrong, these guys are still better than a lot of bands working the road out there (thus the 3 stars), but it's just that, given the talent the band obviously has, they should be able to put out much better product than this.

When my friend first told me about Mando diao and this album I figured that it would be another indie band that we would both love and no one else would care about. Well, we both love them, he acctually got to go see them in concert, and when I play the CD at work people are always asking who it is. This band is brilliant! Thats the best way I can explain them. I've gotten some of thier other CDs now, but this is by far thier best. the others are worth the purchase though.

Similar to Kasabian, Mando Diao has proclaimed that their music is just as good if not better than anyone they have drawn their influences from. While some might see this as pretentious, such as I, it actually really really works for them. Without that type of attitude, I'm not entirely sure that they could have made all three of their albums as good as they are.

After looking back at both Bring 'Em In and Hurricane Bar, it's really impressive to see how far Mando Diao has come in such a small time. While I think I like Hurricane Bar better than Ochrasy just a little because I heard it first, Ode to Ochrasy is a great direction to go from there. So many of the songs are true classics and the styles are varied while remaining true to the Mando Diao formula. Such examples in my opinion are "Josephine" (One of my personal favorites), "Wildfire (If it was True)", and the title track "Ochrasy".

Let me also take this opportunity to recommend to everyone who likes Ode to Ochrasy or any of Mando Diao's albums to try very hard to see them live. They put on one of the most high energy shows I've ever seen, second only to Dir En Grey, though in an entirely different way I assure you.

In short, Ode to Ochrasy is an amazing album and will bring even more fans to Mando Diao than they currently have, which is growing fast. The same cocky attitudes towards their music like their previous albums and they show no signs of slowing down, pick this one up.

This is an absolutely spectacular album. Mando Diao is a band that never makes carbon copies of their previous albums, and this is the absolute shining example of that. This stands out in their 4-album discography as being subtle and understated, without losing their spirit. In fact, CJ has said that it's his personal favorite.

All the tracks are pretty solid, but my favorites are "Never Seen The Light of Day," "If I Don't Live Today, Then I Might Be Here Tomorrow," "Train on Fire," the lovely instrumental "Dalarna" [which they dedicated to Barack Obama when they played in Los Angeles the day before the election], and what can be considered a new rock anthem, "One Blood." I really hope it's released in America soon because it's such a brilliant album that shows a new side of a very passionate and talented band from Sweden.

string arrangements and hints of country/western, but it
suits the band very well. Ode to Ochrasy seemed a step backward
from Hurricane Bar and Bring 'em In, leaving behind much of their old school rock and roll and punk influences for a more heavy contemporary sound, but they've managed to bring it all together here. i hope they find that one key ingredient that makes them stop searching for something new on each record--that one thing that maybe they hope will distance themselves from other bands. they don't need it. they've got everything they need, they just need to keep rocking. i hope they do.

The latest Mando Diao album is also a really gerat one! If you don't own it yet, you should go and get it right now! It's really worth it!!!

The debut of Mando Diao is a mix of punk spirit, garage rock and some influences from classic sounds of the sixties bands. It's a bunch of 12 songs which run in a hurry, going from a couple of noisy and speedy guitars, like Sheepdog, Paralyzed o Bring 'Em In to sweet ballads, like Mr Moon and Lauren's Cathedral. Due to it's a debut record, there are some unbalanced moments and some songs that seems not to be perfect, but there are big hits from the band too: sheepdog, motown blood and the band are part of Mando Diao current setlists and it shows the nature of the strength and the source of the Mando Diao sound. In a few last words: an essential record to meet this important swedish band and listen a fresh sound which rocks, definitely.

Bring 'Em In is a really great album, there's nothing else to say. I love it so you should go and get it!

Mando Diao-Unbeknownst to the boys in the band, the name means something a bit inappropriate in chinese. However, who cares when after you hear Bring 'Em In the only thing you'll be hearing for a while is their absolutely fantastic sound??

Gustaf Noren is the perfect punk without being annoying while Bjorn Dixgard's soul oozes out of his voice.

This album is really a testament to the fact that if you look hard enough, you will find great music out there. In this case, you have to set your sights for Sweden. I bought this album June of 2004 after hearing Sheepdog somewhere, but after a few listens, it went to the wayside because I got a few Beatles and Rolling Stones albums. Now after a year of listening to great music, I decided I needed to hear something different and as I was browsing through my Media Player, I saw this CD. I started to play it and realized just why I bought it in the first place. In a way I feel lucky that I got to discover it, then after quite some time, I got to rediscover it. Those who are reading this review really should buy Bring Em In. I can see a few comparisons to the early Rolling Stones as well as Beatles in Mando Diao. In a room with the two aforementioned bands, Mando should be able to hold their heads high. I know before this month ends, I should own Hurricane Bar.

Mando Diao, on their latest post-punk garage rock creation, drum up several great songs worth of slightly distorted guitars and crashy cymbals that make you feel like you've just downed several fizzy lagers at the local pub, where strangely, a lot of Swedes have taken residence. In fact, perhaps they've taken over the barstools, as they've made much more forward momentum with singles like the downbeat "Mr Moon" and the radio-ready "She's So." But no, that is not a completely apt description. These guys don't completely own the joint -- the sound Mando Diao are approaching is already better accomplished by that other Swedish rock foursome, The Hives, and The Hives already released a new CD this year. This is a good ride though.

If you're looking for some new stuff to get into, this is definitely the CD to buy. It's really good and full of awesome songs. You'll be the coolest kid on the block and people will ask you "Hey what you are listenin' to?" and you'll say "Mando Diao." and then they'll say "Never heard of them, but they're really good. Can you burn me a copy?" It's that good. Can't Steal My Love and Down in the Past are my favorite songs. Definitely check them out.

Mando Diao should be today's Beatles. However, too many people just have crappy taste in music and Mando Diao just do not get the adoration they deserve. They are rock geniuses, writing perfect melodies and lyrics.

Out of five stars, this album is a ten

Having two singers in the band with distinctly different styles of singing are even more reminiscent of The Beatles. They deserve to have the red carpet rolled out wherever they go.

Hurricane Bar and their previous album Bring 'Em In are just amazing.

Mando Diao lovers should also try to find their B-side songs, which are some of the greatest songs but unfortunately are rare and most are unheard of.

The Editorial Review (provided by Amazon above) is EXTREMELY misleading when it chides Mando Diao for lacking creativity. As a musician, a music enthusiast, and a music fan, I have to say this album (and it's predacessor) have convinced me that a few bands are still in the business of making beautiful music for fun. Perhaps the overdriven Gibson through an old vox amp reminds some people of other bands...but to assert that Mando Diao are copying the Kinks is a joke and shows an amateur bent for appreciating good music. The Kinks could learn quite a bit from Mando Diao. Words don't do this album justice. Have a listen!

How did such ostensibly nice Swedish working-class lads come up with a name like Mando Diao? To an English-speaking-skewed mind like my own, it's a bit misleading, and before listening, I figured them for a Portuguese pop act, or a Brazilian rock band. Well, it'll be a cold day in hell before these guys warm up for the Gypsy Kings, and if they ever do, I hope that a few ambulances are at hand, because they will leave the crowd shell-shocked. Mando Diao are the latest (and one of the best) bands in the recent onslaught of fresh, pure rock and roll coming from the outposts of Europe. I don't want to compare them to the Strokes, the Hives, or Jet, although the temptation is strong. There's a bit of the Clash meets Generation X about their sound, more than a touch of Oasis about their pub-based image, and even a hint of the Beatles in their one/two punch of dual singer/songwriters. Too many new bands determine their posture before they develop a sound, but Mando Diao sound as if they are doing what comes naturally, and having some fun while doing it.
Hurricane Bar progresses with a wild abandon that suits the album title. The sound is youthful energy, slightly naïve but also self-aware. The lyrics are almost totally indecipherable - and even the lyric sheet doesn't help much, since the words rarely make much literal sense - but there are substantial hooks all over the record, and melodies that suck you in and don't let go. I don't know what song will be chosen, but "Clean Town" ought to be the first single, since it fires on all cylinders and does the best job of summing up the band's unique way of making a train wreck sound melodic and fun. Pardon my filthy mind, but "Down in the Past" (one of the few tunes where I could discern some meaning to the words) could (and should) do just as well, provided conservative radio stations don't pick up the same sexual allusions that I do.
Although most of the CD rocks like a garage band on steroids, there are moments of genuine diversity that proves them to be more than a one trick pony. "Added Family" is a moody tune that suggests vintage Robyn Hitchcock, while "All My Senses" features an organ break that makes cheeky reference to the Doors' "Light My Fire". There's even a charming acoustic tune called `Ringing Bells" which helps to pace the record quite nicely.
Today's pop charts might indicate that the glory days of rock and roll are long over, but the current upsurge in talented, hard-hitting bands indicates otherwise. At present, the movement is limited to those with `alternative' tastes, but bands like Mando Diao sound destined for fame and fortune. Who knows, maybe this Swedish band with a Portuguese-sounding name might be the next in line to prove, once again, that rock and roll will never really die. A- Tom Ryan
