Marco Beltrami

The 25th anniversary collection was fabulous so I ordered this the minute I heard it was released...it does not disappoint. It covers the last 5 years gamut of films from lightweight to challenging musicalities. (personal favorite the more exotic disc 2). It is almost overwhelming trying to take in so many different films and guessing the composers to match the soundtracks. Thank you for also including a track from Lost - a real surprise. Producers - please don't make us wait another 5 years for another one!

The two previous "25th anniversary celebrations" from Varèse Sarabande are a must in any music library, not to mention if one likes cinema music (the real contemporary symphonic music, in my opinion). I was a little reluctant about this one at first, as it covers a very short time span (only five years), and many of the movies are unheard of...at least for me (I do confess I have disappointedly abandoned Western cinema for Far East one for quite some time now). However, the quality of the music is simply breathtaking. Virtually every track is worth to be listend to attentively. Pure musical enjoyment. Get it while supply lasts!!

This really seems to, and it's an interesting effect. I agree that the score for this movie was excellent at complimenting the tense dusty minimalist feel of the movie. The movie and score are both reminiscent of the dry and gritty old "Spaghetti Westerns". But there's also something unique about the music here, to which I also agree with other reviews that it doesn't rehash the usual Western genre score techniques at all. It mirrors the intensity and loneliness that the movie emits very well, and allows you to recall that, while listening to the CD. For a remake, the movie turned out very well, and the eerie ghost-town-jangly-spurs feel of the score gets a lot of the credit for that. You can almost imagine the hot dry desert wind blowing on your back while it's playing, no kidding.

A great Soundtrack to a great movie. If you are looking for some solid western background music, buy this, put it on the repeat and go. Bravo.

When I watched "3.10 to Yuma", I couldn't stop thinking how well the score captures the ambience of the film, both in action scenes and in the more intimate scenes. I wondered how the music would sound on its own, and I was pleasently surprised. Marco beltrami managed to present a perfect balance between old and modern, intimacy and action, western and mainstream. It takes a great inteligence and a great heart to achieve that, and the result is just a delicacy for the ears. its fresh and stylish, yet very emotional.
Very, very recommended, especialy for those who are tired of those mainstream, predictable hollywood scores.

The music really complements the film. It never overwhelms the scenes but helps it along . You can hear the train slowly coming into focus. The music almost becomes the Train rather than the actual engine, especially towards the end. I've watched the film three times and wasn't fully aware of the score because it is so integrated with the action yet, when listening to it alone, it is very evocative of the film and enjoyable.

3:10 To Yuma is an excellent film but I was disappointed to receive my pre-ordered copy from Amazon a week after it came out in stores.

This collection is bound to capture your heart and evoke a tin ear on successive tracks. I found much to like and some duds - easy to skip over.

I'm a big fan of this soundtrack music and will be looking for more CD's like this.

For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.

I have been listening to great scores for many years and this collection is truly inspirational in so far as the choice of different scores takes you on a journey of listening pleasure matched by only a few collections.The price is incredibly reasonable for hours of listening pleasure. Don't pass this one up

This product is excellent. You can't hardly ask for a better collection of film music as far as diversity goes. From the smooth beauty of the "Steel Magnolias" theme to the electronic frenzy of "Gone In 60 Seconds", this collection has something for everyone who's ever thought to themself, "The music in this movie is really good!" A must have for film music collectors!

I have two Blade soundtracks. I'd bought Blade 2's soundtrack first. I liked it. After that, I bought Blade 1's. I think that's much better its second one. By this album, you may love hip-hop and electro-rap much.

...is that if the techno beat don't compliment the lyrical flow it's a complete disaster. Now this is the case on a few of these tracks, but I will say that for the most part this album is a success. The key track here would have to be Ice Cube & Oakenfold's 'Right Here, Right Now' which is the finest track on the album, flowing perfectly. Other standouts include the Mos Def & Massive Attack fused 'I Against I' and 'PHDream' by Bubba Sparxxx & The Crystal Method. The few tracks I spoke of that fall flat are Eve & Fatboy Slim's version of 'Cowboy' which is much worse than Eve's album version, and even that version is mediocre at best...and there's Redman & Gorillaz song 'Gorillaz on my Mind' which is just plain annoying. For the most part this album fits, but there are a few reasons to change tracks. I will say that at least the album stands out better than the lackluster film did.

The club scene song is actually Voodoo and Serano's Blood is Pumpin'. You may be right about the fight scene, but that is the name of the song for the club scene. They have their own disk which is really good, I own it:) And you can find Blood is Pumpin' on a number of compulations as well. I hope this is helpful to anyone that likes that song as much as I do although I knew about the song before it was in Blade 2.

Like other reviewers I liked a lot of the music from the film. but having listened to samples of the album I couldn't find that one stunning track that was used in the film (night club or fight scene ?). So I didn't buy it :(

Have since found the track though, it's called Clubbed to Death by Rob Duggan - Fantastic. :)

Like most, i was looking for the more electronic side, and most the music on the album has nothing to do with the movie. Everyone wants to know the song from the club scene, but im curious as to what the song from the big fight scene is? any help?

I recently bought The Hellboy II the Golden Army soundtrack by Danny Elfman; I loved it. I knew then that I had to have the original Hellboy soundtrack By Marco Beltrami. The music is colorful and varied, from exciting to beautiful! I love the main title theme-it just says Hellboy! The only track that I am not crazy about is track # 16. Mechanical Mausoleum. It is somewhat hard on the ears-perfect for the movie-not for listening. Anyway, if you love the Hellboy movie-you'll enjoy this! Two very different great movies and two very different great soundtracks!

The sound..Do understand that the score for Hellboy is catchie through the whole CD. You'll find yourself wanting to listen to it over and over again. Marco Beltrami has made a better then average score for a film that you wouldn't expect to have one.

The love theme for HB and Liz and the theme for Liz are pretty close to sounding the same but utilize different instruments. They're also part of some of the best tracks on the score. Pretty much all of the music on this CD is fantastic. The one thing that I wish would've been included is the music played during the end credits because most of the tracks are about 2 minutes long, or low 3 minutes. Would've been nice to have a repeat of the themes that you can't get enough of. But it's forgivable and the CD doesn't get points taken away for this.

BUT, The real downside to Hellboy score is the quality of this recording is poor. Ever 15 seconds or so there's an annoying clicking sound that shows up. And this goes for the WHOLE CD. It's not just on one track, it's the whole CD. Sometimes I find myself listening to it and it's such an annoyance I just shut it off. I've researched the problem and this is on EVERY CD. Some people say it's not on theirs but chances are they just don't realize it.

Overall: If there was no annoying clicking sound this would get a 5/5. Due to the poor quality it only gets 3/5. It's sad that they put this out like this it's really a great score. Hopefully Beltrami will do Hellboy 2 and we will see some of these themes repeated and his score will get a release without constant annoying clicks..

This cd has a good sound to it Marco Beltrami is a good composer for what i hear and this cd is just as good as the movie. This is the first time i heard of Marco Beltrami and i like his music. This cd is very good and easy listeneing to. A great Movie score cd.

The main reason for checking out this album was because I heard two Dimmu Borgir (Norwegian black metal band) songs in the trailer of the movie. I am rather disappointed to not find them on the soundtrack.

Flyleaf covering one of the greatest most emotional songs by Trent Reznor?!

Wow.

Not only did they completely ruin the song (Something I Can Never Have) by adding guitars and distortion to it (thus making it heavy), but they've also performed it with little to no feeling or emotion.

Furthermore, they also censored, and shortened it.

To me, this is a mockery to Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails, and all that Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails stands for. Even fans would be offended by this cover, as it completely mocks the original, and pales in comparison.

Hell, even Linkin Park did a better job at covering NIN (when they performed "Wish" live.) Atleast they put fourth raw emotion into it. Furthermore, didn't mess with how the song was meant to sound.

If you're going to perform and cover a track by an artist who's entire library of songs defines the word "tortured" and or "pain", then atleast try to sound a bit "hurt" (no pun intended), when performing the song.

Don't just sing it, and expect it to sound good.

Furthermore, the track is heavy. The original was subtle, soft, and emotional. This mess of a cover is heavy during it's chorus.

Don't be fooled by the first (and well done) one minute, and four seconds of the song. Because once it hits 1:05, it gets heavy, and thus, ruins the entire cover.

If Flyleaf were to redo this cover, and NOT include the heavy guitars during the chorus, it'd probably be a superb cover.

But the track presented here on this disc, is an absolutely mockery of the original Trent Reznor masterpiece.

I honestly wouldn't suggest anyone purchase this, for the cover. Because it's def. not worth it. Even if you're an avid fan of Nine Inch Nails. Chances are you'll just end up feeling offended by this cover. As it honestly does not do the original justice.

However, I will say that standalone (comparisons set aside) it's decent at best. Alot better than alot of the other NIN covers i've heard. It's not the worst, but by far, it's not the best either.

If you're looking for a near-perfect NIN cover, look into hearing Bile's version of "Happiness In Slavery". That's how a cover should be done.

i enjoy listening to scores moreso than other classical music because if i liked the movie enough to buy the score, then the score is going to remind me of the movie. specific tracks remind me of plot twists and this particular score is fantastic. every song on it is great. if you don't have this score and you even close to liked the movie, you need this cd.

Here's my story:
I watch Underworld Evolution. I like Underworld Evolution. I love the music, particularly one track that they play a couple times during the movie, I just couldn't get it out of my head.

So, they make movie score soundtracks. Why not buy the Evolution soundtrack, and listen to the lovable music over and over again? So, I buy it, and pop in in.

Track 1 - fast forward. 2 - fast forward. Ditto and ditto and dido until the end of the cd.

I sit, somewhat bitter, cold, and confused - never did I hear anything that resembled what stuck with me from the Underworld Evolution movie. But it is the score, so it has to have all the composed music, right? WRONG.

This is a _(insert your own curse word here)_____ rip off; I wasted thirteen bucks to buy a dud, a peice of plastic with Marco Belatrami's name on it but no memorable music. Later, through reviews and samples on this site, I learn that THE GOOD MUSIC is on the FIRST MOVIE SOUNDTRACK; Marco wrote nothing amazing; some other guy did.

But why is this? I watched Evolution again; the song I remember vividly is in the love scene and at the end. But why is it located on the FIRST movie cd? There ain't no love scene in there that would've needed the music or anything, and plus, if they play it in Evolution, it should be on the EVOLUTION SOUNDTRACK.

I'm furious. Thirteen bucks, shot. And just so you know, all the filler on Evolution isn't that good so it was a total waste.





By the way, the song I just loved was called Eternity and a Day (or something like that). It's the last song on the original Underworld score soundtrack. Beautiful stuff. Just some crappy rip off deal that they didn't put it on the soundtrack to the movie I remembered it in.

Composer Marco Beltrami (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines; Hellboy; I, Robot (Score)) picks up where Paul Haslinger (the composer from the original Underworld movie) left off, and lets the audience have it. With his penchant for melodic themes amidst complex action cues, Beltrami soars to new heights and plummets to new depths. Track 12 "Truckin'" is the cue to sample, with its orchestral assault and fantastic seven-beat charge. The album adds two original songs at the end, including a cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Something I Could Never Have" by up-and-comers Flyleaf.

I absolutely loved this movie and what's not to love about the soundtrack? Cradle Of Filth, Slipknot, Puscifer, Atreyu, Trivium. HELL YEAH I BOUGHT and HELL YEAH I LOVE IT!

This cd was great!I really enjoyed it.Most of the songs were perfect...and if not perfect they were very close.My favorite would have to be Undertaker(Renholder Remix) by Pusifer.

When I first bought and listened to this album, I thought "hmmm, lots of 'emo-labeled' bands." That didn't stop me from enjoying this soundtrack though. I liked the first two songs on this soundtrack quite a bit at first, but they got pretty old.

However, I loved Hawthorne Heights's remixed "Where Can I Stab Myself In the Ears" (my friend loved it, too), Aiden's "Last Sunrise" (which had a lot of references to Anne Rice's Interview With The Vampire), Lacuna Coil's "Our Truth" (have since became a fan of theirs), Atreyu's "Her Portrait is Black," and Cradle of Filth's "HW2"/"Halloween."

Oh, I also liked Trivium's "Washing Away Me In The Tides," Senses Fail's "Bite To Break Skin," and Slipknot's "Vermillion pt 2."

So, pretty much the producers took good songs and made them even better. I think I just named 8 of the 16 songs as being favorites, not to mention the other songs weren't bad. What does that say to you?

So, I guess that 4 is actually more like a 4.5.

This is an acceptable rock soundtrack.The songs are unmemorable,
but they suit the film.OK if you like this sort of thing.

I purchased this CD because I loved the movie and the music which encompassed the flavors of its setting. All I got were 24 tracks with 16 Beltrami filler songs. All he did was string it out with boring, repetitive type instrumental sounds bearing his name. I wish he would have put the movie's best interest at heart and given us all the music that made this move so wonderful.

How can you review an album if you didn't LISTEN to it? Watch the movie and OPEN your ears.

There is not enough information given to rate this album. The album information says that Dwight Yoakam and Merle Haggard are on the album. But the listing of songs above does not give any information about the artist who perform them. Can someone please list the artists for the songs?

The film could be a new version of the Spaghetti Western but with depth and a much wider range of feelings and emotions. It is about Texas and its nightmarish prejudices versus Mexico and its indestructible American dream. A Mexican migrant is stupidly murdered by a young border patrolman (Barry Pepper). The authorities can't be bothered to investigate; they bury the migrant hastily and again in a more remote spot. His friend, Perkins (Tommy L. Jones) a ranchman faces the moral duty of keeping his promise to bring the Mexican back to his village. He kidnaps the patrolman and forces him to exhume the body and to undertake an initiatic journey with it. Their encounters are of all kinds bringing comic and tragic aspects of the life in this barren land of the borders. The meeting with the old man waiting for death while he enjoys listening to a Spanish radio he does not understand is not the least original and shocking.
The patrolman is an acute portrait of a young callous man with a limited understanding of the others. He is undertaking a long and painful redemption. Perkins reminds me of two classic heroes: Antigone and Don Quixote for sticking to his principles to the point of absurdity. I was not keen on the lyrics and missed Morricone's music but the film should make Clint Eastwood jealous.

First of all, This soundtrack will not sound good on an "older" car stereo. If you have a pick-up truck that just has a 6" left and right speaker, then forget it. If your car has a SOUNDSYSTEM, ( 8-13 speakers front and rear ) then you will LOVE this ! I listen to it while I drive. It sounds amazing. I like the mix of classical and industrial. It's great.

I'm a pretty big fan of Beltrami, but this soundtrack was a rather large disappointment.

The main fault is that Beltrami used a Hollywood in-studio symphony for the recording, but it doesn't sound full or grand enough... it sounds processed. Cheap. If he had recorded these epic sounds with a *real* symphony, like Williams or Morricone, I imagine this score would have been much better.

Maybe he was trying to deliberately go for a processed sound because the film is about machines taking over. Unfortunately, it just sounds tinny and thin and - at times - rather laughable. A shame, really.

The music itself isn't really that great either - he was working off of Fiedel's original score and trying to implement some new stuff, and that's admirable in and of itself, but this is one of his weaker efforts.

Although Brad Fiedel - the composer of the first 2 Terminator soundtracks - has stepped aside fo T3, Marco Beltrami has ably stepped into the role & created a very respectable score for T3: Rise of the machines. The score still has a very 'mechanical' feel to it, which ably portrays the events in the movie as Skynet hijacks the Department of defense computers to start the nuclear war that will lead to the events wee all recognize with the Terminator series. A thoroughly likable CD!

Normally a Motion Picture Soundtrack comes in two varieties: SONGS from the Motion Picture Soundtrack, and the Motion Picture SCORE.
This soundtrack includes only the orchestral SCORE, which is quality stuff (as scores go), but if you're looking for those cool songs that set a comedic mood behind certain scenes, don't expect to find them on this CD.

Strangely, this CD DOES include two SONGS that seem to have little or nothing to do with the film (and which may or may not have played during the end credits):
"I Told You" performed by Dillon Dixon,
and "Can't Hide This" performed by Mega Jeff.

But this soundtrack CD omits the songs:
"Sugar," and "Party," performed by Peter Beckett,
"Macho Man" performed by the Village People,
"I told you" performed by Mia Julia,
"Dat Funky Man"
(the song heard in the background while the T-1000 pillages the convenience store) performed by William Randolph III, and
"The Current" performed by Blue Man Group.

Why on earth these tracks were not included on the T3 Soundtrack, or a separate "Songs From" CD isn't available, I cannot fathom.

One of My favorite scores is this one! Its exciting and has the listener's adrenaline following! Most of the tracks roll right into each other making no breaks in the score. Its loud and has good rhythm with mixed electronics and orchestra. A couple songs are located at the end of the CD. Fans of the performers should like them. Marco Beltrami's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines score is an non-stop action packed listen from beginning end! Check it out!
