Medwyn Goodall

I owned this album about 10 years ago. Somewhere along the line I gave it away, because it was good. What I remember most clearly was an incident at home when it was playing, and my husband and brother in law walked in arguing. And while they love to argue, they just couldn't sustain their disagreement while this music was playing.

I enjoy this CD so much, I wore out my first one and purchased it again. This is my favorite of the Goodall recordings, although I enjoy several of the others. I find it to be very healing and I often use it it for a sleep inducement at bedtime. This music with it's wonderful and flowing melodies and rhythm are perfect for meditation. I wouldn't want to be without it!

"Medicine Woman" is the best selling Medwyn Goodall-album, and that's not wondering me at all... panpipes, undistorted guitars, sounds of nature and synthesizers are used to the best effect, when you are stressed somehow, just feed this one to your CD-player, sit back - and let that relaxing flow come over you. This is a recording that's never boring - you can play it over and over again. For example in the car - it prevents you from driving too fast! Even when driving a BMW M3, with this album playing, you'll NOT drive too fast!
But make sure your speaker system can reproduce frequencies as low as 30Hz - otherwise you'll miss half of the relaxing effect of this record. This is with virtually all Medwyn-albums, they have a good, solid, low-end.
When you don't know Medwyn Goodall at this moment, "Medicine Woman" will be a great first album, just as "Druid" or "Merlin" or "Excalibur"....

The first hint that this guy has little talent can be found in the enormous amount of material that he releases. Thsi guy turns out music like Jimmy Dean turns out sausages. This is hokey, bombastic, hack music. Medicine Woman? Let's pander to the goofiest New Agers, eh? I doubt that any of the reviewers who praised this album would trust their health to some backwards medicine woman instead of modern health care givers - especially when they hear that the average Native American Indian looked like an old crone by age 30 and was usually dead by 35. This junk is what gives New Age a bad name.

After listening to this music, you feel as if your "batteries" have been recharged. The pleasant uplifting music is energizing, restoring, and rejuvenating. It's the perfect pick-me-up after a hard days work. I would recommend it to anyone.

What a flourishing way to complete a trilogy of fantastic, healing and spiritual music. As usual, all the tracks in this album are wonderful, but there are some that are superlative:

1. Invocation: This track has a very smooth cadence. Most impressively, the track dips and (kind of) plays in slow motion and then returns to the normal rhythm. Needless to say, all the instruments are timed and mixed to perfection.

2. Farewell To Darkness: This track is a perfect juxtaposition of uplifting and melancholy/reflective music. I have listened to this many times and discover it differently each time. This track resonates with the mind waves and I'll dub it as the "Thinking Body Dancing Mind" track.

4. Sherpa: In my opinion this is the best track on the album. The trademark Medwyn-style Peruvian flutes, the Spanish Guitar and the drums have all been played to perfection. The various instruments have been layered and come into play one after the other, creating a very soothing sonicscape. This track resonate with both the mind and the body and I'll dub it as the "Dancing Body Dancing Mind Track".

7. Temple Journey: The grand finale and the farewell track. This long track has an Au Revoir feel to it. It seems like the grand summation of all the tracks from this and the previous Medicine Woman albums.

Medwyn has really raised the bar for new-age music and reaffirmed his position as one of the best musicians in this genre of music.

I find Medwyn Goodall's music mesmerizing! I LOVE his Druid, his Merlin series, Grail Quest, King Authur. Guinevere, Clan -- all of his Celtic CD's... I'm a writer of fantasy, and no other musician has moved my creative hand like he does!

Although I enjoy Medwyn Goodall's music immensely, Medicine Woman III sounds very similar to a couple of his other CD's. I don't hear anything new and different on this particular CD. It's still very listenable, though.

I've been listening to Medwyn for a few days now, and this ones my favorite thus far. I love the album art too!

I ordered Celtic Women CD and received this instead...it's nice, but not what my Daughter wanted.

As usual Medwyn Goodall has come up with a blend of music that takes us to "another" place. This time that "place" is on a island where you can soak up the surrounding environment and place your self in utter contentment. Most artist CD's have one or two good songs and then the rest are not worth the effort. Island Bliss is NOT one of those CD's. Medwyn Goodall has compiled the music on this CD with great care so that ALL the songs are excellent and compliment one another. I am thrilled to have this CD. Actually I bought two just in case one gets damaged. I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to to to "another place" and just relax. This CD is also really great in the car. You won't fall asleep driving if you listen to it. Purchase this CD and keep the music of Medwyn Goodall alive and well.

I have never gone wrong with buying a CD from Medwyn Goodall. He knows his music. He writes such beautiful songs and uses such wonderful instruments. His music can be lively and get you going when you need it or be soft and spiritual when you need the quietness to reflect on your day.

I have used his music to cheer me up on days when the world seems impossible due to stress etc. Other days when I am so stresed that I need calmness his music takes me away to another world where I can destress and get my world back to normal. He has never made a bad CD. They all have been worth every penny spent.

Medwyn Goodall has completely won me over with 'Moon Goddess'. He's released at least twenty albums now and is hardly faltering in his innate sense to create some of the most breathtakingly gorgeous pieces ever composed! This entire album, from start to finish, holds a very special place in my heart, but certain songs tug at me more profoundly than others, such as the emotional "Full Moon Magic". Every time I hear this song I come close to tears--it's that beautiful! The melodies are all so incredibly lush with a subtle, uplifting source of energy that you can't help but FEEL this music as it courses through your very being. Sound melodramatic? Yeah, well, 'Moon Goddess' will have that passionate effect on you if only you let it...

For all seeking inspiration, you may want to give this gem a spin.

Goodall's music on this CD is energizing while lyrically rolling you from one piece to the next. I found it was perfect as an accompianment to many tasks in my office -- it soothes, yet energizes. I first heard it in Sodona, Arizona, and it reminds me of soaring heights, majestic rock formations and the South West's diverse terrain. The flute, bells and percussion are superb.

I like the music of Medwyn Goodall. Likewise, I have an appreciation of Terry Oldfield. I love meditative, relaxation & New Age music. Om, however, offers nothing to recommend it. It lacks heart, with music that is milquetoast, pedestrian and rather uninspiring ... so much so that I found it annoying rather than relaxing. You would do no worse by buying one of those generic cheap CDs that are sold at kiosks in Walmart and Target.

I purchased this CD to use with my massage therapy clients, but instead I believe I'll drop it from my collection ... something I hardly ever do. I can't imagine working with this music when there is so much more that's better.

My advice is to listen to the samples before you buy.

OM is melodically consistent, transcendentally peaceful and internally challenging. We love the quiet peace it brings. We will purchase anything produced by them.

This is typical to his music and every bit as good. I use it in my massage and facial room and it is great music to work by.

Music that calms and relaxes the body while it nourishes the soul - great for meditation.

Very good!! Upbeat, all the songs are great. No weak link or anything. Lovely soothing and upbeat all at once in all the songs. Panpipes and Spanish guitar masterfully used. No pitiful electric sounds he plays many instruments very well, and records them all in his own home studio. Its Great!!!!

This Medicine Woman was just as good as the first one. Both me and my husband enjoyed it very much. The first time we listened to this CD was a Sunday morning with our coffees and we were quite relaxed just being in the moment!! I am looking forward to purchasing the 3rd in the series.

I have 22 Medwyn Goodall CDs (He's released over 70) so I am a big fan of his music. Medicine Woman II, The Gift was one of the first purchased and is still one of my favorites. The original Medicine Woman is excellent and a New Age classic, but this follow-up is an order of magnitude better. It is hard to imagine that only one person is responsible for all of the music here. Goodall composed, arranged, performed, produced, mixed and mastered this CD. It is guitars, panpipes, and lots of percussion in almost an hour of lively but soothing music that sets you down in the middle of the Central American jungles and then carries you away. Rhythmical and catchy tunes inspired by the ancient Mayan culture expand on the ideas explored in the original Medicine Woman plus introduce some new ones. With touches of male and female choirs and synths in the background, the music has an uplifting mystical quality.

Medwyn Goodall is no stranger to fans of world and new age music. Having released well over 20 albums, this is one of his more appreciated albums. "Medicine Woman II: The Gift" is a follow up to one of Goodall's earlier album release "Medicine Woman" but topples the previous release effortlessly with this relatively perfect collection of songs. One of the amazing factors of this album is that all ten tracks are instrumental pieces as vocals become part of the arrangement and there's not a word that is sung, but the messages and feeling are successfully conveyed through the use of various instruments such as the Spanish Guitar, Bamboo Flute, Mandolin, authentic South American drums along with a host of other instruments.

"Celebration" the opening track sets the mood for the album. It's an uplifting, positive track that sets mind at ease and takes you to a different place. Where you imagine you are standing within an exotic tropical rainforest and the unique sounds only helps to provide you with a more vivid picture. "Invocation Part 2" seamlessly follows through with the positive theme and the rest of the album flows effortlessly from one track to the next. The stand out track would have to be "The Gift", instantly attracting you with it's unique guitar arrangements and it's soothing Enya-like vocals.

Unfortunately, the main downfall of this album is that after listening to the first five tracks, the next five seems like a semi-altered collection of the first five tracks and you get the idea that no new grounds are broken into or explored and you get the feeling that you've heard it all before. As a whole, this album seems relatively complete even if it was released only with the first five tracks with "The Gift" being a severely major reason for purchasing the album itself. Some of Goodall's other releases are not as easily satisfying on the ear as this release but this is definitely the one that is set to please. The album actually is a mediocre 55 plus minutes but the first 28 minutes or so should do the job at setting your mind at ease.

We heard this for the first time in Kauai driving along the sea. It will fire up your soul!

Soothing and up beat. A great cd to just let go with and enjoy the day.

I have several of Medwyn Goodall's CDs and this one definitely ranks as one of his best. Simply wonderful music, beautifully done! If you're a Medwyn Goodall fan I suggest you buy this CD for it is very much worth it.

Also, the last song on the CD is a slightly different rendition of the first track, for those of you who are interested in knowing, but both are excellent (my favorite songs). So don't let that stop you from buying this CD. Hope this helps!

I own a lot of new age albums, but never came across Medwyn Goodall for some reason. I bought "Ancient" and as soon as I heard it, I loved it. It's very rich, and the instruments blend together well. There is NO ELECTRONICA here. The instruments produce very earthy sounds that are calming, but not boring. This one is a winner in my book.

I enjoy nearly everything by Medwyn Goodall with "Medicine Woman 1 & 2" probably being his best works. This CD is okay in that it has a couple of really exceptional songs. "Be All That You Can Be" is my personal favorite followed-up by "Dawn Over Africa" which sounds so much like "Be All..." that when I first heard the two songs, I kept waiting for the chorus of "Be All.." but it never came. That's how much the songs are alike. The entire eight tracks have so much of a sameness that the CD isn't actually boring, it is just... uninspiring or perhaps "predictable" is a better term. I purchased the CD for the two songs I mentioned by name so I feel I got my money's worth. The remaining songs are okay to good but very repetitious which is fine for a while, I suppose. The music is five stars for my two personal favorites but the remainder of the tracks brings the overall package rating down to three stars. This is my first CD by Medwyn although I've heard a great deal of his music from satellite and Internet radio stations. Thirty second samples will never do his work justice as he may take a full two minutes just for the introduction of a song which is why I am hoping that Amazon will expand the length of their samples to a full minute in the New Age music department.

I loved this whole CD; free flowing, yet lively, it brings you out to places within yourself that you've never been to or you have been in another time; familiar, yet not, this is a great CD to listen to any time....LOVED IT TOTALLY!! I wish there were millions more like it!

There are only two Medwyn Goodall albums I really like - this one and Anam Cara. And I love them. This album I can play over and over again and never tire from it. I suggest that if someone is looking at buying Medwyn Goodall, listen carefully to the samples provided on Amazon and go with your own personal taste. This suits mine perfectly. I love Celtic music - and this was refreashingly different.

If you are looking for real Celtic music you'll have to look elsewhere. This CD is mostly eletronic music with cheesey background add ons. Do youself a favor and find some real Celtic Instrumentals. If you like Celtic music with "Dramatic" Keyboard effects you can pick that up at Wal-Mart by the candles.

This entire CD is awesome. I highly reccommend it to anyone who loves Celtic music...especially Celtic music with drums. It's very moving and vivid ...the kind of music where, if you close your eyes while listening, you can envision the story the song represents.

I thoroughly enjoy listening to this album. The music has a very peaceful and soothing affect. If you want calm background music while working away diligently, this is the album to get.
