Its wonderful to listen to all the songs again after you saw the show. Even if you didnt see the show it's a great album. Especially Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, anything can happen, a spoon ful of sugar are lovely songs.

If you did not see that musical yet...do it as soon as possible...we saw it 5 months ago and we are still singing.

I never grow tired of hearing this music. It is always so uplifting. I find my self singing the tunes all day.

In an era of so many Disney feature film crossovers to the stage, we all knew "Mary Poppins" would have to make its way to Broadway eventually. There is a story that the Sherman brothers wrote an ending song for the film that Walt Disney did not like. He said that it was a fine way to end a Broadway show but not his movie. Little did Walt know what was to come!

The original (and beloved) score by the Sherman brothers remains substantially intact among several new songs by the British song-writing team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Their contributions are very much in the style of the originals but never, to my ears, blend seamlessly. Each original song has been re-arranged and re-orchestrated for this show, making them a little more "theatrical" in nature and more connected to the expanded plot of the show. (I enjoy the way "Jolly Holiday" is made into a partner song, for example.) But where are strings? In typical modern West End fashion, the pit is almost totally devoid of stringed instruments, much to the detriment of the production, I feel. Still, the cast is enthusiastic and the score has most of the innocence and charm you would want from a remake of the classic film. There are some very nice moments on this recording that cause me to keep this CD close by, though not at the top of the pile.

This is a much more legitimate and satisfying effort than was the staging of the Sherman brothers "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." I recommend this CD to people who loved the theatrical version and to Broadway collectors in general. If you simply love the film, this CD, while good, may not be for you.

I'm a fan of the original movie. Not the obsessive fan that buys all that's Poppins, but a fan nonetheless.

It's surprising that when Disney started producing for Broadway, they didn't see this among the first obvious choices. Of course, considering that Disney didn't have the stage rights to Mary Poppins, it's understandable why it may have taken so long. Fortunately, they were able to do a partnership to finally bring this to the stage.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see this on the stage. I can't wait until the day that I do, though.

The new songs were done in the Sherman Brothers style enough that the old songs flow very nicely, as if they had always been there. "Brimstone and Treacle" is quite possibly the highlight of all the new songs -- a rather cruel song, but you just won't be able to get it out of your head!

I have heard complaints that the musical is a bit too dark due to its reliance on the books a bit more than the movie -- but the original movie wasn't all that bright and cheerful through the entire movie. "Chim Chim Cheree" got downright creepy at points in the song -- some lines still give me some chills running down my spine!

I've yet to read the books... that's next on my list to do before I see it on stage.

"Tell Me" is a massive hit, one of Melanie's best up to date! I did not like her album that much, but boy, does she have it for the singles! All good...

The producer of this song is Darkchild. Therefore, you know what you get, right here... Nothing really new, but he always delivers the goods, and he sure did not miss out with Mel B here. Neither did she, because she proves here that she handles singing solo very well. I would say that out of all her singles, "Tell Me" is probably the one that depicts her personality best.

The two remixes are good and typically Melanie B, one dance remix and the other one is more RnB, urban-style with rap.

The video is lovely, very convincing and entertaining. The choreography and set-up are perfect for the song and Melanie is also gorgeous. It's a shame that this song did not do very well in the charts, but it's defintely among my personal faves!

Melanie didn't do to well with her last solo single "Word Up." She remade Cameo's hit, and didn't do too well. I think "Tell Me" will make up for it! The song "Tell Me" itself is a hack back at her soon to be ex-husband... , basically telling the listener that he consistantly lied to her about things, and was only there to steal her money.

The Soul Central Remix is a bit slower, and starts with a male voice (counter part) as Melanie sings. There is a bouncy bass line, but a definate rap feel, I'd say...but she's added a bit of "Spice" to it...as if she'd made it back in the 70's. It's got a 70's feel to it...funk like, maybe it would be something you'd hear off a 70's movie. Stringed instruments are involved. The ending is quite unique compared to the rest of the song, and ends without the aid of Mel's lyrics.

The Workout Remix is a quicker pace than the original. The introduction is very fierce but straight. The Bass line is similiar to the bass line in the duet song by Mousse T. vs. Hot N Juicy. It's definately got that workout/dance beat and rhythm to it. Piano counters the bass line during the chorus throughout the majority of the song. The interlude is similiar to the intro, but adds some unique beats and sounds, which creates a lasting effect, then fades to end.

The Video is also very unique...but rather to spoil it, I'll let you buy the single so you can form your own opinion!

This is a MUST buy, just for the remixes, even if you HATE "Tell Me! "

Bells are added, along with a wicked bass line when she sings verse 1, this follows through most of the song. The NDB remix has a simple beginning rap beat, and the tone sounds similiar to Victoria Beckham's featured song with Dane Bowers and True Steppers "Out Of Your Mind." Marimba bell-part (which is the bass line) goes along with the beat. The song seems a little slow at first...but when Mel starts singing...her lyrics are a lot quicker than the orginal version. Definate workout beat and tune. The Chorus is repeatative with the intro, and this creates a kewl effect! The lyrics of the song is basically a hack back at Jimmy Gulzar, suggesting to the listener that he continually lied to Melanie. A GREAT buy if you like Melanie B!

"Tell Me" by Scary Spice, Melanie B is a great track. This CD also comes with the video to her No. 1 R&B single. It made No. 4 on the pop charts but that is pretty well. If you like R&B and awsome lyrics that go along with her life then this is the song for you. Mel has gone on her own to make her flavor of music which was previously unheard from the Spice Girls

Today, and Bad Bad Girl are very good songs by a very talented artist. This single is great, but I would reccomend the album.

Why was this song of all of them released? "Stay In Bed Days" would have made a better single.

This Is Definatley A Fresh And Crisp Record From Mel. It's An Escape From All Of The Trash That's Dominating The Airwaves These Days. The Moment I Pressed Play And Heard "Today" My Spirit Was Charmed & Lifted, What-A Magnificent Opener. Most Of The Songs Here Are Cheerful And Positive With Feel-Good Tempos. While Enjoy The Entire Album Absolute Favorite Tracks Are "Stay In Bed Days" "LA State Of Mind" "In Too Deep" And Everytime I Hear "Bad Bad Girl" I Feel Like I'm Watching "Pizazz" From "The Misfits" In An Episode Of "Jem And The Holograms".

I LOOOOOOOOOVE THIS CD SHE SHOULD MAKE A NEW ONE A THIRD CD SHE HAS A PEFECT VOICE JUST MAKED TO BE A SINGER!!!!!!!!!!!

My how time changes things. Back in 1998, whilst touring America with former bandmates the Spice Girls, Melanie B declared that New York should've been her home. "Urban". "Raw". "Real". Adjectives she used to describe New York, while adjectives such as "tacky" & "false" described Los Angeles.

But motherhood & exposure to the nature of British celebrity must have changed Melanie's mind. Melanie now does indeed live in L.A. Though, after the madcap adventures of the Spice Girls, a divorce, a misdirected debut record, a bestseller book, & a daughter mellowed the "scary" in this spice.

"L.A. State of Mind" finds Melanie not discussing the Hollywood nature of L.A., but celebrating the warm & inviting calm it brought her. After her debut, Melanie took time between that record & this one. The sound here is radically different from "Hot", rightfully & thankfully so. Melanie was much more involved in this indie affair.

The eclecticism Melanie was known for, comes through on inspirational opener "Today", a number that is so positive, one can't help but smile. Even the subject of bad days is tackled with a Sheryl Crow affirmation feel on the bouncy "Stay In Bed Days". "If I Had My Life Again" & "In Too Deep" give the record a sturdy center, as they frankly address life & love, & celebrate them in all their confusing glory.

She's never sounded better, if at times she reaches too much, on "Beautiful Girl" & "Hold On". Hell, she smoulders on the spoken, sexy "Sweet Pleasure".

Overall, while this was not at all a commercial or critical darling in her native Britain or anywhere else for that matter, those that have heard it have come away with positive words about it. Melanie seems content & it comes across here. Honestly, with humor,& a little "spice". Forgive the pun, highly recommended!

On a sidenote, I purchased this version, which comes with a 30-minute mini-documentary on Melanie & this record. If you are a Spice Girl fan who has fallen out of step & wishes to get reaquainted? This is perfect way to do so. For the Spice Heads? This just shows why we love Melanie. She comes across as down to earth & humorous, plus learning the behind-the-scenes of this LP is nice!

Melanie wanted to make a feel good album and this one is what it is. every song is good. this is one of the cd's that i can put in and listen to the whole thing. and the dvd is awesome, its like 40 minutes long, and it is neat to see her house and how she lives life in l.a. she truley did a wonderful job. it has a vary of styles from, rock, r & b, dance (80's style), & latin. a great buy, nice to listen to on a relaxing but hot summer day.

Melanie Brown has made a musical accomplishment over her first album, "Hot", but not a popularity accomplishment... Hot's highest chart position was in the 20's... not good for a spice... but then you look at "L.A. State of Mind"... A better album (without a doubt), but #453 is terrible. Amber Cafe, Melanie Brown, and the other spicers should be grimacing at this number. Terrible promotion and management.

Now the DVD is something else... It's a half hour of your life you'll never get back... thirty minutes of Melanie Brown explaining that she lives in L.A. and not U.K. Boring. I needed a bit more background info behind the tracks... especially songs like "Stay In Bed Days", "Hold On", "L.A. State of Mind", and "If I Had My Life Again"...

Stay In Bed Days - (5/5) - Could have been a top 10 single in my opinion (under the right promotion of course), this song has extreme potential with the theme everyone can relate to: Days you just want to shut everything out... is life worth living outside your home? "Is This Me? Is this what I'm really like?" and "Am I a misery? Have I lost it in L.A.?" are understandable questions. Musically, this song is uptempo and something you wanna sing out loud with the top down on the lonely or traffic road on the way to your next destination.

03. Beautiful Girl - (4/5) - This song has a beginning to it that sounds like an enhanced version of the motifs of India.Arie's "Voyage To India" tracks (Growth, Healing, Gratitude) and is probably directed towards Phoenix. A formidable song, but not my favorite.

04. Music of the Night - (4/5) - A lively beat. Four of five stars for the sole reason that Melanie Brown did not triumph over Emma's "Crickets Sing For Anamaria" in the Latin/Samba/Salsa category, but however, did overpower Geri's "Mi Chico Latino" (which to my opinion is a horrendous tune) and so it deserves its rating.

05. If I Had My Life Again - (5/5) - Last night, I had a dream. I dreamed my friends in choir and I all sang with my chorus teacher who sang lead vocal for this song and at the end said he had no regrets in quitting. This song's lyrics are incredible and to me, they're about Melanie Brown's accomplishments in the Spice world, her life with Jim, her daughter Phoenix, and her first solo album which tanked in the charts... It's a great piece.

06. In Too Deep - (4/5) - An airy piece which I rate for out of five stars for her creative cut off on "STOP." This song shows that she has grown as an artist and has conquered her life's problems. Pop as this track can sound, it beats some of Emma and Geri's pop songs.

07. Sweet Pleasure - (1/5) - An eleven track album has a weak link in this case... L.A. State of Mind would be #353 instead of one hundred lower in my eyes if this song were wiped from the planet. It's hardly worth one star... such a "Hot" sound...

08. L.A. State of Mind - (5/5) - I got this CD for the $26.99 in LA at tower records... West Hollywood/LA is the real State of Mind... (Gay baby shower at the nicest hotel got me this... praise my mother) Its beat is superior to Spice's "Holler" and is a laid back rhythm and blues that could be turned into a top 10 single... who doesn't want to hear of my beautiful city?

09. Say Say Say - (4/5) - This pop track holds its own with describing the qualities a man should have without sounding too much like "Hot" or "Sweet Pleasure".

10. Bad Bad Girl - (2/5) - Melanie Brown claims on the DVD that she loves this song because it goes rock... I hate this song because it goes nowhere... what is it REALLY about? The chorus is what's holding up 2 stars... that's it.

11. Hold On - (5/5) - Beautiful. (What? No paragraph on this track because it is impeccably wonderful?) Simply beautiful.

Overall, this album triumphs musically, but I don't think Melanie Brown will be allowed to produce a third album. She can thank "Hot" and "Amber Cafe" for this... Mel, take this sound to Virgin/EMI, and they JUST MIGHT TAKE YOU BACK! You can be as great as Emma, Geri, MELANIE C!!!

As this is the 'debut' solo spice recording it was always going to be heavily scrutinised. Melanie B rises to the challenge (with the support of Missy Misdemeanour Elliott) admirably. A strong, sleek song with a real American R'n'B vibe - plus a dash of spice thrown in. From the soundtrack to "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" this song should win over Spice critics who claim them to be talentless. Melanie handles the song with required sassiness which could enable this track to be US r'n'b hit (it has already reached #1 in the UK).

This is a pretty good first effort for Melanie B, but considering she worked with Missy Elliot on the track, it was always going to be at least a half decent song anyway. More urban than what shes ever done with the spice girls, the song has a cool r&b touch to it. Not as good as Melanie C' effort, but better than what Emma Bunton mustered up on her own, I've just heard Victoria Adams debut solo track and believe me, she definitely proved all the cynics wrong and come up with a stellar song which is much better than what the other 3 have come up with. Better than anything the other spiceys have come up with, its called "Out Of Your Mind" and is a dance song with a drum and bass influence. Check out as soon as possible. You're missing out otherwise.

Wow! Two great rappers together... Sounds scary! And they've made a great song. Melanie B is great rapper, but Missy Elliott is the woman that makes this song so great. Melanie B's solo-courier has started greatly and so has Melanie C's. Let's hooray for them!

This single kicked off Melanie B's solo career. This was the only single under the artist Melanie B but Mel did one other solo under Melanie G. Melanie has divorced with her husband but still remains Melanie G. This single is from the movie "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" and never got released in the US.Melanie B did really great on this song but Missy did so little it shouldn't say her name on the cover. Missy did bearly anything except a few backing vocals and rap at the beginning. Melanie B does alot better than Spice Girl knock-off Melanie C who has an ugly,rough voice. Ok, so it's not the best song in the world, but it's still pretty good! With some songs you hear then and you wanna move, and this is one of them. Perhaps I have a weird taste in music, but I liked it. I do, however, have to agree with the previous review; I like Geri Halliwell and Melanie C a bit better.

I guess Melanie G is doing O.K. for a solo career.But She is changing her personality to impress her backup vocalist from her previous single,"I Want you Back".Missy Elliot is R&B but Melanie G will not admit she is a pop singer and she is not the best rap and hip-hop singer in the world.I think Cameo's "Word Up" is 2 stars better than this.The music video is O.K.

This single, is one of the worst by far! Cameo's hit "Word Up" was far better than this single, could ever become. Geri Halliwell's single Mi Chico Latino, even hit the #1 spot, whereas Melanie G.'s barely made it into the top 20. Not only is the song boring...the music video is twice as bad! I definately agree with the below review!

This is the worst of the Spice Girls solo attepmts. I realy enjoyed her previous single 'I Want You Back', but this song is absolute garbage. Her voice is awful and I think she will be the only solo Spice that won't survive on her own. The first single was only good because of Missy Elliot. Buy Melanie C or Geri Halliwell instead for solo Spice. If you must have this song, buy the original version by Cameo.

What would music be without the Spice Girls? You tell me! Not only did they completely blow the music industry with countless number one smash hits, now they all start over each on their own and still bring the house down!

This third solo effort from Mel B commands a whole new Spicy dimension - RnB, later explored by Victoria Beckham with songs like "Not Such An Innocent Girl" and "I Wish". Those who thought that Melanie B was not going to do well on her own can now sit back and enjoy this very beautiful, well-written song.

The two remixes are interesting, with track #2 sounding quite like a jungle remix, with the rythm slower than the original version. Track #3 is a true rap, RnB remix, truly Mel B-ish...

The video is very beautiful and original, scary and crazy the way only Melanie can be... She looks totally gorgeous, the most beautiful I have ever seen, with her long str8 hair...

Overall, a great buy, you will not regret it and you do not need to be a die-hard Mel B fan to enjoy that great single!!!

Popular in Europe and in America. But to correct the original review - this is actually "Sporty Spice". The other "Scarey Spice" flopped. ;)

Decent track. Nice beat. Mixed everywhere. Definitely listen to it before you buy it - it's one of those songs that will grow old as soon as something new happens - and at this point it's already growing old.

The song is already a big hit all around Europe, making it in to the top 5 in the singles charts and making it to number 2 in the R and B charts. The track is simply beautiful and inspiring. Its great to dance too. She has a beautiful voice and the lyrics are touching as you can see how she reveals her lonliness throughout the song and makes it in to a happy dance ballad. The single not only contains the amazing track, but it also contains 2 kicking remixes which rock the beat, and are great to work out too. And if thats not enough, it contains the video which is simply breathetaking. A must have for everyone. Its very much worth the money so i think you should defenitely invest in this purchase. Let Melanie B rock your world.

Feels so good is simply remarkable. The song is not only touching and inspiring, but its a great dance song that you simply cannot resist. Purchase this single, its well worth the money. In addition, it contains 2 kicking remixes.

Classical music enthusiasts will have become aware that EMI have been marketing several boxed sets with a French title containing the word "introuvables". The word suggests that when you open the box you'll find items that are so rare as to be almost unobtainable. It suggests also that their rarity is not due only to age or production limitations, it is also due to the incomparability of their quality.

Few would quibble about the quality of what is to be found in this splendid collection of Verdi "introuvables". You will hear how Emmy Destinn portrayed Aida yearning for her homeland in 1908, and how Elisabeth Schwarzkopf portrayed Violetta intereacting with her lover's father in 1953. You will hear several items duplicated. Francesco Navarini, recorded in 1907 with a piano, makes a stunning Fiesco in the "Simon Boccanegra" prologue, as is not up-staged by the more familiar Alexander Kipnis version which follows.

You might regret that your favourite Verdi record is not here. You'll have opportunities to make comparisons, however. I could never believe that anyone could equal Giuseppe de Luca'a 1930 "O sommo Carlo" from "Ernani, but here I have a chance to hear for the first time how the famous baritone Mattia Battistini did it in 1906.

Keith Hardwick compiled and transferred this collection originally in the late 1980s. He has augmented and transferred that issue onto 8 CDs, and provided the annotations. Full recording details are provided, there are many singer photographs but no singer biographies.

The recording dates range from 1903 to 1953. Sadly, almost all the singers - Dame Elisabeth Schwarzkopf being a notable exception - are all dead by now. Those of us who have opportunities to hear and collect their work, however, can be grateful that the older we get the better it sounds. Indeed, I have never heard any of the items included here in better transfers. Elsewhere I have given this issue a five star rating. Subsequent hearings have made me aware of a technical matter which may bother some listeners. This set has been transferred from the long playing records on which it was originally issued. Their pristine sound quality has been preserved but also some of the ghostly "swish" that accompanied each revolution.

I think too many critics have given a bad review about Mel. She was by far the loudest and most outstanding spice in the group. She is so sexy and so is her voice.. Her greatest songs are lullaby, Tell me, Feel so good and many more... You go girl

Now, I grew up with the spice girls and of course they were the best pop group of that time...but looking back the music was a bit [bad] to say the least. Since we have all grown up, so has Mel B. Her sound is phat and funky.

Overall, this is one of my favourite albums ever - this has to be a definate purchse for any real fan of RnB. It is just a shame she excluded songs 'Word Up' (Cameo cover) and the B-side (slammin') vibe of 'Sophisticated Lady' with one hot rapper called 'Dextor' on it.
Mel B is coming back with a new album next year - working with peple like Prince, Jay-Z, Ja Rule etc - And I WELCOME her!!
I just hope she never stops.

Mel B does a good job with this cd. Her vocals are great and the beats wonderful. Definately worth buying since the artist is no long with Virgin and who knows when she will put out a second album. My only complaint is that it is mostly about her tattered love life and nothing more. Though she did sing a song about her son, "Lullaby", which is absolutely adorable similiar in tone to the song Maddona sang for her child, "Little Star".
