Minnie Driver

Since the movie was great, the singers superb, what more can I say? The CD is a good alternative if you are driving by car ...

I saw the Phantom on stage in Toronto. I did not see the movie until 2007. I enjoyed the movie much more than the play. When I saw the play I never got a good feeling of the story. Perhaps I was too close to the stage to get an overall look of it. When I saw the movie, because you see everything up close, it was much more understandable. I bought the two disc version of the dvd and was interested in the explanation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Joel Shumacker of the casting and the production. I think they did exactly what they intended... made it enjoyable to a larger audience.

As to the casting...the only one I did not enjoy was Patrick Wilson, but perhaps its because I thought the character was trying to control Christine too much. I loved Gerard Butler's version of the Phantom.
I think although actors like him may not have the voice of a professional singer they more than make up for it by their acting skills. When it comes to hiting the note or giving the emotion, the acting always wins.
Emmy was very good and I love her low range voice even more than the higher range and there was no break in between, which you often get with
opera singers.

As to the story, I still cannot quite understand why Raoul bought her the music box, unless Christine was obsessed by the phantom during their marriage. She should have really picked the phantom; so what if he gets mad and kills people every once in a while, it's his only fault. (I'm joking)

My one regret is that I did not see the movie on the big screen. I hope that some theatre nearby has a showing of it so that I can see it in its full splendor. I think it's somewhat like "Lawrence of Arabia" or "The Fountain" that should be seen large to get the full video effect.

I have both versions of the cd. This shorter version is great for those who only want the main songs. I bought the 2 disc version because it leaves out some of my favorite parts. But I play both of them all the time.

This is a great classsic soundtrack (as are all Andrew Lloyd Webber Soundtrack's) The condition was perfect and i was very pleased with my purchase.

I gave this as a gift to my younger sister, and she is thrilled. She deeply enjoys the rich music. USPS is the worst shipper possible, buyer beware! Overall worth a buy.

I will watch or listen to anything with Gerard Butler! Of course The Phantom of the Opera is wonderful, but I love the soundtrack and movie to hear him. I even watched 300 just to see the body. Listen to this all the time.

As a 'phantom' fan, I've been to San Francisco to see the stage show. I hopped this video would at least be 'as good' as the stage show. I thought it was better, having told a more thorough story. The actors kept the music as good as the original stage show, but filled in all the blanks in the story. I would go so far as to say this video is better than the stage show.

The Phantom of the Opera music is masterfully written and full of all the drama and emotions that are placed within the music that tells a story of love, obsession, and revenge. Andrew Lloyd Weber's music is timeless!!!

This is a wonderful soundtrack from the movie. I am obsessed with the movie and the soundtrack follows exactly as it is on the movie. With having 2 cds and the movie music is split, you can play your favorite song and section as often as you like. Great buy.

The music is very soothing and the soundtrack makes you think you are almost there. It is good to listen to and can relax you.

Extraodinarily different singer and song writer! I would have never taken Minnie Driver to be a singer as well as an actress. There is real talent here and I hope all enjoy!

I am a FAN!! I have both of herCD, Seastories is my favorite. I reccomend buying both. I have not found a song I didn't enjoy. her voice is smooth,The songs range from reflective, poetry,to rock. She can do it all. I am looking forward to the Cd

I had no idea that Minnie Driver could sing! I came across this cd on Amazon.com while looking for something else and listened to the samples, glad I did! This is a great cd, it has a great sound and lyrics. It is a different type of music for me, but it was definitely a good purchase. I have always enjoyed her acting, now I enjoy her music abilities as well. I would certainly recommend this cd to everyone!!!

Minnie Driver and music? It boggled the mind that such a good actress could sing too? Boy does she, her music is absolutely perfect, her voice clear and it resonates the soul. She has become one of my favorite artist on the iPod! I purchased the first album after this one and will probably buy every one that she releases. Thanks Minnie... I love the music!

While Minnie Driver may not be another Joni Mitchell, or Janis Ian (for examples of the apex of the golden age of the Singer ~ Songwriter), that is not to say that this is not a completely worthwhile CD because it is. If you enjoy the idea of the genre, here are more soul bearing songs, well written, and warmly preformed.

Ms. Driver, continues to please and surprise, in this follow-up to "Everything I've got in my pocket". The tone of "SeaStories" is a bit less genuine than say KT Tunstall, but not much. Overall if there weren't so many really good CD's that have been released in the last couple of months, I might have rated this 5 stars, because as I have said about Ms. Driver before, although I find her a wonderful actress, she is NOT an actress making a CD, she is a very good Singer ~ Songwriter who happens to also be a very good actress.

If you enjoy Ms. Driver as an actress, this may be a pleasant surprise.
If you are looking for a CD that has good songwriting, soothingly sexy vocals, and completely professional production, then this is a CD to Buy.

very laid back, smooth sounding album. Its got a bit of everything for everyone, vocal jazz to a bit of light pop. Very sultry voice.

Minnie Driver put together a CD here that very nicely showcases her beautiful voice. It is certainly not edgy, angst filled pop, which is fine - there is plenty of that around if you want it. This CD is great for a laid back evening, but it is a lot more than background music. Driver does have a very strong vocal presence, and she avoids the common mistake of trying to do too much all at once. Her songs are lush and fluid, not too complex, very satisfying and yet the lyrics are not as simple as the music would imply. Of course there are the songs about love (found and lost), longing and even that Springsteen cover. Yes, I agree with a previous reviewer that the cover is the weak point on the CD, but that should say something positive for Driver's originals. My favorite songs are the title track, "Deeper Water" and "Yellow Eyes". Is this an essential CD? No. Is it forgettable? Again, no. It sits on my ipod with about 1/3 as many plays as my most played CDs, but it is quite a welcome sound when it plays. I think Driver did very well with her first offering, and I'm hopeful to see if she branches out a little from here into more demanding music. She does have real talent, and this is a CD worth having.

Unfortunately the songs, however beautiful, are somewhat dull and undistinguishable from the rest(except "Everything I've Got In My Pocket" and "Invisible Girl") and it took quite a while before I warmed up to them. Now they are very soothing to me. It is also unfortunate that the best song "Complicated Man" is only on the import version. I'm loving the sound of her voice in that and hope to hear more of that sound in the future. Very suiting. I wish the rest of the album was in that style. If I was rating on voice alone I would have gave 5 stars.

Minnie Driver, what can you say...

Very good actress, believable in romance, funny in comedy, spellbinding in her current project " The Riches", is here a self examining songwriter, and once again a very good one. As a bonus (or due to not enough original tracks to fill out a CD) there is a heart wrenching version of Sprinsteen's "Hungry Heart" that is also quite memorable.
Her voice is a sexy, soft, raspy and breathy, no power balads here, and no iratating vocal runs. It gives it a refreshingly honest feel, like it is meant for just you.

If you are looking for something fairly fresh and mellow, (performed by a grown up beautiful woman) you will not be dissapointed with this buy!

A pretty good CD. I really enjoy the title song as well as a few others, but I was not impressed with some songs including the bruce springsteen remake. I would recommend it for the listener trying to find a voice that is enchanting and different than what is currently available in music today

I'm glad the previous reviewer mentioned the bonus track 'Complicated Man'. It really is the best song in the CD, and I'm wondering why it's only a bonus track in the Japan Import version. Totally unique song with a different tempo and sound.

I only discovered it when Minnie Driver sang it in Carson Daly back in 2005, and after hearing it, I knew I had to get the Import CD. Now I see that it's again an itunes bonus track in her new CD 'Seastories'. She really needs to release it as a single and make several versions of it as it's her best song.
