This Tony guy cracks me up. In his review he writes:

Dude, Eddie didn't write that song. That's a Kevin Fowler song that MG decided to hack away at and totally ruin.

Check out Kevin's version and throw rocks at your MG CDc. Besides, they kill little bears that are locked in cages.

I love this CD! I am so excited about this album because it sounds like they went back to their roots. A lot of the songs sound like their earlier work...which I believe was better than the last two albums they've produced. I'm very glad that I bought this cd and I can't wait for a new one to come along! This cd has a great mix of emotion and talent!

Montgomery Gentry are one of the few duals out there that still sing "true" Country Music. Their music tells a story. Sometimes it makes you laugh, sometimes it makes you stop and look at your own life situations, but it all gives you a great feeling when you listen to it. This is absolutely one of my favorite CDs in my huge collection of country music! A must have!!!

this is the best of montgomery gentry that i've heard so far. they have a very unique sound that is very inspiring

This was my first CD by MG. I thought it was an instant classic for country music lovers. Almost every song on here is about redemption (Some People Change), love (Lucky Man), or just puts a smile on your face (Redder Than That). I love this CD.
The only slight downfall is the song "Clouds". It is a tear jerker and does not fit into the tempo of every other song on here.
But still, I love this CD and am glad this is the new face of country music.

never heard of these guys until I saw the video of the song, "What do you think about that?" I really like that song, so true it is. Good album.

I'm not really a country music fan. I normally listen to contemparary Christian / gospel / rock / alt. That being said I really really like this album. It's honest, heartfelt, and just downright good. This is probably the best country album I've ever heard.

No. That song isn't on there. But the country-rock sound of the MG twins still exists with this loaded CD!

I recall hearing the title track "Some People Change" as an unreleased single from the Kenny Chesney CD "When the Sun Goes Down." The song needed to be released. It's a terrific ballad about the problem of alcohol use and racial critizism. In my opinion, it is truly a Montgomery Gentry song.

There's Jay in the backseat! The rocking track "Hey Country" puts fourth the actual sound of country music from where it started out: cowboy hats!

It's about time they acheived a number one hit when the single "Lucky Man" was released. You really have to listen to the words of the song to appreciate that your'e lucky for having a few dollars, a good running truck, supper in the oven, and a "ticking ticker."

If a girl throws you down, she shouldn't be laughing about it for long. This is true in the single "Your Tears Are Comin'". What goes around comes around!

The highlight of the CD would have to be the newly expressed emotion in the track "Clouds." You can tell Eddie felt his son and his father's passings with that side of him that never before have I heard! Their somewhere up in the clouds, and when it rains their's crying. Someday he'll be up there to see him in the clouds. It's a really amazing song.

Every day sons get in trouble with their fathers from not thinking alike. This is especially true in the well-written "Twenty Years Ago" where his dad is running down his friends, hair, and rock and roll. Their differences are forgotten about when the old man waits in the hospital bed and lets go of life. It is then and there that he realizes that all he wanted was to be his kid.

While there is quite a lot of heart-felt tracks that seems like a new gentleman side of MG, the track "What Do Ya Think About That" re-enforces that in-your-face side of Montgomery Gentry that everybody likes! Some people do care about what other people think, and they don't need to. Theyr'e the way they are and shouldn't give a holy damn of what other people feel for them!

There's humor in the song "A Man's Job". Her new guy is never home, and she has to raise the baby on her own. That boy can't do a man's job, and Eddie was called for advice. He said what anybody else in his place would say: too bad. Your'e on your own.

Everybody always thinks they're something until they actually go out into the real world. The song "Free Ride in the Fast Lane" tells you that for every ounce of pleasure there's a pound of pain. One thing in life is true, your'e either dead or your'e hurting!

This record was an excellent choice. I thought it would be mostly calm tunes sense the last releases seemed to have that peaceful and soft new sound. It's good to know that the MG boys haven't changed that much. In fact, they dropped the "A" bomb three times in the record!

I adore this CD. The song What DoYou Say AboutThat mirrors many of my own attitudes. There are a great many people today who think it is their business what their neighbors drive or what color their house is painted. It ain't none of their darn business. If people spent as much effort taking care of their own business and staying out of their neighbors business, it would be a much nicer world.

Montgomery has a vast body of work but this album did a great job bringing together the songs that really strike a chord with you. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing I don't like is their version of "Merry Christmas From the Family." They should have let Robert Earl Keen Jr. keep that one.

Overall, a very enjoyable album.

For the past seven years, Montgomery Gentry has been a country radio staple, but their biggest hits have tended to be hard hitting, country rock stompers like "Hillbilly Shoes," "She Couldn't Change Me," "Hell Yeah," and "Gone." This tendancy is reflected on this "best of", as only a few ballads are included in this thirteen-track lineup (omitted underacheiving slowpoke singles like "Self Made Man," "You Do Your Thing" and the gritty "Cold One Comin' On" would have provided some much appreciated balance).

For the fans who already own their previous albums, there's still plenty to entice here, however. A new track "She Don't Tell Me To" is currently zipping up the charts, while the heartwrenching "Didn't I" from the We Were Soldiers soundtrack finally appears on a Montgomery Gentry album, as does the humorous 2001 holiday single "Merry Christmas From The Family" which concludes this set.

Overall, Something To Be Proud Of is an energetic, engaging collection of hits. Its contents were custom made for blasting in the car.

First album of Mongomery Gentry I have brought. Great album.Great songs. Buy it if you like them.

This little 10 track mid-line does a good job complimenting
"Something to Be Proud Of: The Best of 1999-2005".

Out of the ten tracks there are only four that are on both CD's.

But most importantly & best of all, "Super Hits" includes
three Billboard Top-40 Country singles that are not on
"Something to Be Proud Of: The Best of 1999-2005".

Those three are "All Night Long", "Cold One Comin' Down" &
"You Do Your Thing".

I tried but couldn't get into this music album. Way too country for me and nothing memorable. If you like country you might find it OK but it just wasn't for me.

A wonderful gift for my boyfriend who is a fan of Montgomery Gentry. He plays the CD so much and has such enjoyment from it! Thanks - we both were very satisfied with this item!

Country Singer Charged With Killing A Tame Bear
(WCCO) Minneapolis Country singer Troy Lee Gentry was indicted Tuesday in federal court on a charge of illegally killing and tagging a tamed black bear.

Gentry, of Franklin, Tenn., and Lee Marvin Greenly, a 46-year-old wildlife photographer from Sandstone, Minn., appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Raymond Erickson in Duluth, Minn. Tuesday morning. Their case being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Dees.

According to the indictment, Greenly sold Gentry a tame, trophy-caliber black bear named "Cubby" for approximately $4,650 in October of 2004. Greenly housed several animals for use in his photography business.

After the transaction, the indictment reports that Greenly and Gentry tagged the bear with a Minnesota hunting license. Gentry then allegedly killed the captive bear with a bow and arrow while the animal was still enclosed in a pen on Greenly's property.

The indictment further alleges that Greenly and Gentry registered the bear with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as though it had been hunted in the wild before shipping the animal's hide to a taxidermist in Kentucky for mounting.

According to the Lacey Act, it is illegal to falsely tag a tame bear for the purpose of hunting.

The bear's death was videotaped and allegedly edited after the fact to make it appear that Cubby had been killed in a "fair chase" situation.

Greenly is also facing two further charges of violations against the Lacey Act, including guiding hunters to the Sandstone National Wildlife Refuge, where black bear hunting is illegal, and unlawfully setting up bear-baiting stations in the area.

Both Gentry and Greenly have been released on bond pending their next court appearance. If convicted on the charges, they could both face a maximum potential penalty of five years in federal prison and a $20,000 fine.

I have just started getting into Country Music. I love all sorts of music but never had gotten into Country. This is one of those Cd's that you can play over and over continuously without fail. The lyrics of these songs are really just amazing. 3rd Tract "Lonely and Gone" is beyond amazing!!! Not sure what to say with my review that would cause anyone to buy this CD.....just that if you don't know whether you should or should not............YOU SHOULD...without a question. I never write reviews but I needed to with this CD. Give it a listen....it's special!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I became a MG fan when I heard them (on TV) perform at the Fanfare in Nashivlle. I heard 'Hell Yeah' quite a while before that and I loved that; and If you ever stop loving me. I didn't know who MG where then- then I heard their performance at fanfare (On the TV) and had to become a fan. I got all their albums.

This is their debut CD, and it is really good. Their first single; "Hilbilly Shoes" is about not judgeing people- sends a powerful message and it can still be rocked out.

And "Lonley and Gone" is a great song and they can sing it with such emotion.. not to mention the vid for it!! Wow.
The whole album is good- and their version of "All Night Long" rocks
There are just so many things to say about each song.
"Daddy wont sell the farm" MAN! That song is great- the music singing melody and all. And it is about not being able to take a country boy out of thier setting, no matter what.

The whole album is great- and If i heard this album when it debuted in 1999 I would have said, "These guys will be around for a long time to come"

But apparently Troy Gentry thinks that's perfectly all right. He bought a tame bear named Cubby, locked it in a pen and then shot arrows at it, all in the name of fun. That behavoir is sickening, and I sincerely hope he gets jail time for it. Please do not support the lifestyle of an animal abuser--this was NOT hunting. THis was torture, plain and simple.

Great album. "My town" is one of the best country songs of the last few years.

This album is GREAT!!!!!!! But "Carryin' on" is a little better but they both rock.
This album is great, with only one song on it I could do without and that is "lonesome"

But the album is great from start to finish, starting with "My Town" which was a huge hit for them and I know why.
You got the "in your face" stuff that is great and tells you they mean business- song examples like that are, for sure, "Hell Yeah" "Bad For Good" and then there is, "Good Clean Fun", which some would think is a bad song because it gives the impression that 'having fun' for one night is more important than a commitment, and it is all about, yes all about the sex and nothing else- But when I listen to it I don't feel that way; I think it is just a fun, party song- that is it.

and "Lie Before you Leave" should have been a single; it would have done great on the charts and I feel it would have gotten a lot of radio play not to mention record sales; it would have been a fav. And "Free Fall is one of my fav MG songs as well as "Hell Yeah" and "Didn't I" I'm not sure Free Fall would have done good as a single though.

And this is just to point out a few songs from the album- they all ROCK
MG is the way to go- they rock their country!!

I've been an avid Montgomery Gentry since about 1998 when I first heard this album. They are best country duo in the business and they just don't stop getting better. Their tough, thorough, and modern cowboy ego is extremely intense. In almost every song, there is something great to relate to or laugh at. Not only do they put extremely well written and well composed country music, their concerts are as good as they get. I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO ANY COUNTRY FAN!

The words of Eddie Montgomery in the title track bring up images that seem to stay with the albums tracks of americana life from running away from a bad love in "speed", to getting down at the bar dive even though your life isn't what you expected in "hell yeah".
This Cd also suffers a little from the slump (as described by the amazon reviewer as the "bar band" feel) MG has toward the end of their cd's usually, but was a well thought out cd compared to "carrying on"..But still slumps away from being a totally good albumn because of it.
The remake of the Allman Brothers "good Clean Fun" off their 1990 album "seven turns" is a notable remake of the song but doesn't have the griityness of the original as done by Gregg Allman and co and so is more of a notable tribute to them than a owning of it.
So that's why I give it 4 stars, great albumn but still not a cd full of material to write home about.

The first song, All Night Long, is o.k. The second one (Merry Christmas From the Family)- a grand theft from Robert Earl Keen, is the worst remake of a song I have ever heard. Not only do they change some of the words, and some of the beat, but they take out all of the fun and humor that made REK's song so great. Buy the REK CD containing this song instead. You will be much happier.

Both of the songs are absolutely great. All Night Long is over way too soon and Merry Christmas from the family is TOO funny! I'm buying an extra just in case something happens to the one I already have.

I thought the choreography was one of the best I have ever seen. I liked the music and have most of Charlies Deniels albums (yes albums) tells my age doesn't it? Anyway, he and Gentry are both fantastic artists and they compliment each other very well. I first saw the video and heard the song during the middle of the night when I was half asleep and woke up instantly and KNEW I had to have this album. When will it be available to buy?
