Mötley Crüe

This is a stunning work by the only band that could have created it - a hard rock tour de force concept album that describes the band's early years and the Sunset Strip scene. I challenge any band to match the Grammy nominated title song for sheer power and intensity and then follow it with the sneering masterpiece "MF Of The Year." A magnificent album, easily the best of their storied career.

Bought this after seeing Crue Fest. This is the best Motley CD in years. Good hooks, and really rocks. For the Motley fan, must buy.

'Saints of Los Angeles' is definitely Motley Crue's strongest effort to date (next to the self-titled album) but also encompasses some of the spirit of the old & perhaps the Crue most fans want via 'Dr. Feelgood'/'Girls Girls Girls.' Truly a great balance of bringing the old Crue with a new & heavy direction, not to mention the production is the best of any Motley album & the band has never sounded tighter. Cheers boys!

Motley Crue's "Saints of Los Angeles" joins a growing list of new material from prominent hard rock, hairband, and metal acts from the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Whitesnake, AC/DC, Def Leppard and Alice Cooper are just a few of the other acts on that list. What's really amazing about all of them is that sales of these albums have been excellent and the music sounds great. It proves that some things do get better with age.

With "Saints," the Crue offers up tunes that reflect on their wild past (especially the first half of the album), their ever-present resistance to authority and the fact that even though they've aged a bit, they can still out-rock the majority of today's so-called hard rock bands.

Vince Neil's vocals have matured to a solid level. While the squeals and squeaks are still around, they have a much more manly tone to them. Nikki Sixx' bass sounds excellent. Tommy Lee keeps everything moving at a good pace and Mick Mars is still one of the greatest guitar slingers in the business.

The title track's message is obvious: We came, we saw, we rocked and we still rock. Show us some respect. Filthy rockers include "White Trash Circus" and "This Ain't A Love Song." "Face Down In The Dirt" is a pounder that kicks the album into gear. Other solid tunes include "MFer of the Year," "The Animal In Me," "Just Another Psycho" and "Goin' Out Swingin'."

If there are any shortcomings on this album, it's the fact that some of the reflections on the band's wild past can get tiresome. "Down At The Whisky," while a good tune, gets lyrically bogged by this. Granted, the Crue was never known for their brilliant lyrics, but Nikki Sixx has written much better material than this.

Overall, "Saints of Los Angeles" proves that some rockers get better (or at least sound tighter) with age. "Dr. Feelgood" and the oft-forgotten John Corabi-fronted "Motley Crue" album are the best albums by the Crue in my opinino, but "Saints" definitely deserves a spot somewhere around "Girls, Girls, Girls"

If you grew up on Motley, like I did, I highly recommend this album. It will feed your hunger for hair/hard rock. If your knowledge of hard rock begins with groups born after the grunge era, I suggest you pick this up to see how much fun rock was before Nirvana and company killed it.

This is a very solid new effort from the re-energized Motley Crue. This new cd, featuring all four original members (Neil, Lee, Sixx, and Mars)is an honest straightforward rock album with solid catchy grooves. Vince Neil's voice has truly never sounded better, and the band has terrific chemistry on this sleazy expose of LA rock life. Saints of Los Angeles, and White Trash Circus are my picks for standout tracks, but there really isn't a bad track on the album. This is without question the best, most true to form cd the band has released since Dr. Feelgood. Fans of early Crue will not be disappoiinted, and the band sounds fresh enough for modern rock fans as well.

Well first off, I bought this CD because I was exploring Motley Crue. I head some of their songs, and bought the CD because I wanted to hear more. That said, I do enjoy this music, and it is a lot of fun to listen to.

Motley Crue at their best. Home Sweet Home is one of my favorites. I love to run to it.

All the ppl who like metal should have this one.Always been fan of the crue so it was no brainer for me when I saw this on Amazon for mere 10 bucks.Great songs,music ,drums everything you need from a metal band.I dont like one thing though the guitar work is not as great as some other bands,e.g Defleppard, GnR(in 80's),Aerosmith etc.But still one of the great purchase for me.

Greatest Hits is the most suitable title for this album. Released in 1998, Motley Crue's greatest hits is a great compilation album for any die-hard Crue fan. On the album you'll find hits such as: Kickstart My Heart, Dr. Feelgood, and Smokin' In The Boys Room. If your into the heavier Crue stuff, you'll find hits such as Too Fast For Love, Looks That Kill, and Shout At The Devil! If your looking for a good variety of Motley Crue songs on a single album, then Motley Crue: Greatest Hits is the album for you.

This collection has all the good stuff. Classic Crue hits from the past. If you are a Motley Crue fan this is a must have.

Lot's og rockin out here, plus three new soungs and cool packaging. A good intro to the CRUE.

Pre-Script: I would just like you guys to be aware that I do not own this album but I have listened to it and have listened to Motley Crue long enough to create what I think could be called a "Decent" or at least "Fair" review.

Yes folks, another Motley Crue greatest hits compilation. Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive Motley Crue... or maybe not. This is their 3rd GH compilation released, however this is different than the former 2 in the fact that it's so much better.

This is a two-disc album with 27 (awesome) tracks, just more than two hours of music and has more and better songs than the former two although many are the same. "Live Wire", "Too Fast for Love", "Helter Skelter", "Shout at the Devil", "Smoking in the Boys Room", "Girls, Girls, Girls" , "Kickstart my Heart", and "Dr. Feelgood", Wild Side" "Anarchy in the Uk", "Primal Scream", and (I've saved the best for last) "Looks that Kill" are the strong points of this album, although every track is truly excellent and deserves to be on here.

Well, the songs have individually been broken down and thoroughly discussed, so there's not much else that I can saywithout being repetitive, except that any Motley Crue collector or fan deserves to and should have this wonderful compilation.

PARENTS:Be aware that although this has an EXPLICIT LYRICS sticker from the lame PMRC, I honestly don't know why it's there. Motley Crue hardly ever swares and when they do all it is they say is: "Damn" and "@$$" nothing terribly severe.

OVERALL: kids, adults, men, woman, teenagers, anyone who likes Motley Crue should buy this album and enjoy one of the best "Glam Metal" bands in the world play.

I am not here to dog one CD and play up the other like so many other people in here. HOWEVER, if I were to, I would be singing the praises of disc 2 a lot more. Disc 2 is loaded with great rarities and remixes. "Bitter Pill," "Bittersuite" and "Generation of Swine" are but a few of the outstanding releases on disc 2. Disc 1 has all of the classic standards, but, basically they are songs we have heard over and over. Great compilation overall, especially the outstanding disc 2!

I feel odd even WRITING this review--even odder than I did when I picked up this CD set.

In short, I never liked Motley Crue in their heyday. When I was in high school, cranking up the Cramps or the Flesheaters on my Walkman, a friend of mine praised the Crue, while I thought they stunk. MTV didn't help either, rotating "Home Sweet Home" endlessly (and unfortuantely all of the hair rock power ballads to follow). While my friend Frank praised _Shout at the Devil_ and denied that there had ever been a band called Brownsville Station and insisted that "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" was an original Crue, I scoffed at his inferior musical tastes.

So why the hell would I even bother LOOKING at this collection? To tell you the truth, the omens came threefold--first, I got into Brides of Destruction. I saw the video for S.T.F.U. on Headbangers' Ball and loved it. When I got it, I found out that the outfit was lead by Nikki Sixx, and though it didn't make me like the album any less, I'd still grimace a bit and say to myself, "This band has a member of the Crue in it."

Then, when I went to see _Evil Dead: The Musical_, "Kickstart My Heart" was played during the intermission. Listening, I realized that this was one Crue song that I didn't mind so much when Frank forced some Crue on the turntable. In fact, I kind of liked it.

Last, this CD set was basically for free at a sale I came across at a CD store. Enough said--I figured that I could find at least two or three tracks that I liked.

But in listening to this collection, I've come to realize that the Crue was a band that suffered for its desire for fame. They can no doubt rock - "Kickstart My Heart" remains one of my favorites, and "Live Wire" is a juicy one. But other times their songs felt very off-the-mark, sometimes starting with a good hook but falling off very quickly. "Toast of the Town" was like this, as well as "Hooligan's Holiday," and "Planet Boom" just plain fizzled out. Some songs suffer for trying to sound too pop, and they just come across as empty.

I don't think this set turned me into a Crue 'fan,' nor am I sure that it was supposed to, and possibly a Cruehead may think that this collection is just blast after blast of Crue par excellence, but I did come out of it highly pleased with some select tracks, but also kind of thinking that they were a band who had the wherewithall to strike up hook after hook but forwhatever reason fell flat a lot of the time. Rather than distinguish themselves as a singular band in rock mythology, I think they ended up forging themselves as the prominent name of a name brand of rock, for though they proved themselves to be the better of the whole hair-metal pop-rock genre, they never fully came together to do solid music.

But then again, they had the fame, money, booze and women, and I was just a raging gutter punk, so they may be able to say that the last laugh was theirs.

For 25 years they have been the biggest hair Metal band of all time, now here is a great complation of all their head banging tracks & power ballads from 1981- 2005 with tracks brand new on this CD, the CD features classics like "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Dr. Feelgood" "Looks that Kill" "Home Sweet Home" "Too Young to Fall in Love" & many more on 2 discs, listen to your Crue music b4 ya see em' with America's greatest Rock 'n' Roll band AEROSMITH!!!

After going on cruse control for most of the decade, Motley Crue pulled it together for what many would consider to be their masterpiece "Dr. Feelgood" (1989).

Newly clean and focused, for their fifth album, the band tapped Bob Rock (Metallica) to produce their new CD.

To many, "Dr. Feelgood" is regarded as the bands finest hour--their crown jewel. And While `Dr. Feelgood" certainly has many strengths; it suffers a few drawbacks as well.

Musically, "Dr. Feelgood" is probably the band's best work since "Shout at the Devil." The band--Vince Neil (vocals), Tommy Lee (drums), Nikki Sixx (Bass) and Mick Mars (Guitar), gave a one hundred percent effort. Unlike the past few records, the band didn't just coast. Their performance and Nikki Sixx's songwriting was top notch.

Nikki Sixx penned a great collection of songs, so when the CD is good, it's very good. There is far less filler on "Dr. Feelgood," then their had been on the Crue's last two albums, "Theatre of Pain" (1985) and "Girls, Girls, Girls" (1987).

Some of the band's best work is on "Dr. Feelgood," like the arena-rock anthems "Dr. Feelgood," "Kickstart My Heart," "Same ol' Situation," and "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)." The album's power ballads "Without You" and "Time for Change" are far more effective and memorable than many of the ballads from the Crue's peers during that era. Even the "filler" songs, ("Slice of Your Pie," "Rattlesnake Shake, "Sticky Sweet," "She Goes Down") between the big singles are effective and keep up the album's momentum. All in all, it's a thoroughly rocking and memorable album.

The album does leave a little to be desired. Even if it is Motley Crue, some of the lyrics, especially "She Goes Down" are pretty dated and cheesy. And although "Dr. Feelgood" contains the band's catchiest collection of songs, the album isn't nearly as edgy or dangerous as the classics "Too Fast For Love" (1981) and "Shout at the Devil" (1983). Be that as it may, "Dr. Feelgood" is still one of the best albums from the late `80s pop-metal genre and is sure to please most fans.

The bonus material is cool to hear, as it shows the songs in progress. The unreleased track, the mid-tempo "Get it for Free" sounds like it would have been well suited for the "Girls, Girls, Girls" album. It's quite cool and should be of interest to most fans.

This is Motley Crue's best and most focused album, with Shout and the '94 Corabi album coming in tied for second. After years of shoddy, drug-influenced work with Tom Werman, The boys hooked up with future Metallica producer Bob Rock. They're commitment to sobriety was a long time coming, and with Bob Timmons help, they finally built up the courage to live clean and say nope to dope. This album was recorded around the same time Aerosmith was working on their classic "Pump". In fact both bands studios were right next to each other! On Dr. Feelgood, the production is crisp and clear. The days of partying with chicks and kegs of booze in the studio were over, no more of Nikki being too strung out to play, the Crue finally gave it 110% effort the whole way through the recording process and it paid off. Big time. Their first (and only) album to top the charts. Every song but 1 released as a single. 6 Hit videos on MTV. A Sold-Out world tour played to all corners of the earth. The Metal Edge readers choice award for 1990. An American Music award for favorite Hard Rock album. I could go on & on.

1.T.nT "Terror 'n Tinseltown)-Nice intro, sets the tone. (5/5)

2.Dr. Feelgood-The infamous title track, features an excellent Tommy Lee back beat, clever lyrics. I Like Mick Mars demonic voice at the end. (5/5)

3.Slice of your Pie-Has a great blues influence, Steven Tyler co-arranged it. (4/5)

4.Rattlesnake shake-Rollicking mainframe, with a full horn and piano section. Vince Neil is in fine form vocally. (5/5)

5.Kickstart my heart-A top ten hit, Heavy riff, excellent slowed down bridge, and a kick-ass Tommy Lee drum solo to finish it off. The video was a blistering, in-your-face performance. (5/5)

6.Without You-Motley's second best ballad besides "Home sweet home". It's very deep and sentimental, heart-felt. (5/5)

7.Same ol' Situation-Nikki Sixx plays a nice bass line, tells an interesting story. I loved the video back in the day, Motley were at the top of the mountain, music-wise and commercially.
This song, along with Dr. Dre's "Next episode" played in my head while in line for my last paycheck of Summer 2000. (5/5)

8.Sticky Sweet-Top notch musicianship. Takes me back to September 1990 when I got my new bike. (5/5)

9.She Goes Down-Packed with sass, raunch and a chugging backbeat towards the end. (5/5)

10.Don't go away mad (Just go away)-Yet another megahit, it's a power rocker, with a catchy chorus. The coda is terrific. the video sort of foretells the internal conflict and tensions that arose in early 1992. (5/5)

11.Time for a change-A perfect closer. It's socially aware with relevant lyrics. And the chorus sounds like a choir singing. The only downside I can think of is in the title, The band is talking about change. Unfortunately the wrong kind happened, 2 years later in the Fall of '91. Music changed big time. Grunge exploded out of nowhere and bands like the Crue fell out of favor. It was the end of an era. The reign of the Hair Bands ended overnight. That said this track is still a 5/5.

If you don't own this album yet you're in luck. In 1999 the band acquired their back catalog and Master tapes from Elektra and started their own label called Motley records/Beyond. Their previous albums were re-issued under the Crucial Crue series, it's fitting that this was their best album, because it's also the best of the re-releases.

There's new liner notes pertaining to info on selected songs, and Demo versions of songs as well as unreleased tracks. The title cut has different words and it's an interesting listen. You can hear what's missing and in turn corrected on the final songs.

The demos for "Without You" and "Kickstart my heart" don't pack quite the punch of their album counterparts, all things considered, they're still pretty decent as is.

The unreleased track "Get it for free" Is good, but it seems more fit for the Girls, Girls, Girls album. It would have seemed out of place on Feelgood. It makes sense to me why it was left off.

My review is a bit lengthy, but by now you get the point. Don't miss out on this Rock-N-Roll classic. As I said before, It's Motley Crue at their creative and commercial pinnacle.

DR FEELGOOD is the biggest album in MOTLEY CRUE'S collection. This album has it all, sex drugs and rock n roll. The band cleaned up their act, got straight and put out their best album yet. If I can remember, I think almost every song was released as a single back in the day. This album has some great rock songs that will forever be played on rock radio, DR FEELGOOD, KICKSTART MY HEART, S.O.S, DONT GO AWAY MAD, WITHOUT YOU. The less played songs here like SHE GOES DOWN, TIME FOR A CHANGE, STICKY SWEET, SLICE OF YOUR PIE are songs that the listener should give a listen to also. The musicianship on this album is top notch. Tommy laying down some furious beats on the drums, Mick just giving us some killer riffs on guitar, Nikki really worte some great songs for this on and Vince sounded really good on this one. The unreleased material is good also. So all in all I think that this is an album worthy of being added to your collection

I've never been a Motley Crue fan in particular (I can't even remember how I bought this album) but Dr Feelgood is the band's tour-de-force...and is an excellent introduction to Motley Crue.

Although the band's image is a ruff and tuff party band, this album is in fact, extremely well-produced. The riffs are chunky; the melodies are sweet and the playing is tight. This is as ultimate rock as it gets. Dr Feelgood has a drive and verve that hasn't been matched since, and deservedly sold loads of copies. It's hard to explain why some albums hit the sweet spot more than others, but this one does with an array of tracks..."Kickstart My Heart" is a great song, and a personal favourite of mine. Motley Crue is perhaps somewhat underrated against their other rock peers but they transcended for a time above a crowded field. This shows the band's songwriting and rhythmic skills at their peak. Take it from a non-diehard crue fan. If rock is your forte, you'll have fun with this one.

In 1989, Motley Crue put out a very good album in Dr. Feelgood. Overall, it's not nearly as good as 1987's "Girls Girls Girls", but Mick Mars' playing is better on this than on any of their other albums. Almost all the songs are good on this album, the best being the title track, S.O.S, and Kickstart My Heart. For some reason, out of two ballads on this album, the bad one was the hit single. "Without You" is nowhere near as good as "Time for Change". W/O U drags on and is uninteresting while Change has a good guitar solo, a good melody, and better than usual vocals. If you've got several Crue albums, buy this. If you haven't purchased any Motley Crue albums before, don't start with this one. Get "Girls Girls Girls" first. It's much better than this, but this is a close second.

I've been a Crue fan since this album came out, when every kid on my block sat around listening to it. Now, 25 years later they re-release their albums again. This gimmick is also done by the movie industry who keep re-releasing DVDs after a while. Now I love this album as much as anyone, that's why they got 2-stars; I subtracted 3-stars for selling us an album we've already got, why not just do that in the first place? It's not like they just "found" some lost footage!

For the fans who got the record, the tape, the CD, and who were dumb enough to buy any "special edition" CD's afterward, PLEASE stay away from these cheap cons!! Save your money for food, heat, clothes, anything else but crap that you already have!!

I love everything about this album. The songs ALL rock, the costumes were cool and the sound quality is crisp and clear. Dispite what concerned parents say, it is not Satanic. Hello?!? It says "Shout AT The Devil", not WITH! I've never even had such thoughts and I've been listening to this album for 25 years now. They cover a Beatles song on this album for crying out loud! I can't really choose a favorite here because I like them all...but if I had to it would be "Too Young To Fall In Love."

Shout At The Devil will always be the Crue's best album. When they released the cd's on their own label they included the demo's. This Japanese import includes an extra the extra cut Too Young to Fall in Love. This extra track is worth the extra bucks. The demo's were so much better then the finished product; so if your a true Crue fan buy the import.

If you like hard, raw, rude & aggressive Rock & Roll, this album is a must!!!! If I were stuck on a desert island with a CD Player & 5 CD's, this would definitely be one of them!!! Yes, it's that good. If you've never heard it before, just take a leap of faith & buy the album. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!

If you like 80's Heavy Metal, then you'll especially enjoy this one. It includes classic cuts, Shout at the Devil, Looks that Kill, and a couple like head banging metal, you cant go wrong with the raw sound of Motley Crue.

This is the album where Motley Crue began following the trend of the time...GLAM ROCK. Their first two albums stood the test of time because they were following their hearts. The minute a group begins to make money, they will do whatever is necessary to keep it rolling in. If you listen to the demo for "Louder Than Hell" (Which was called "Hotter Than Hell") from the "Shout At The Devil" remastered CD, you can clearly imagine how this album could have been more metal sounding. It does rock, don't get me wrong, but the style here is pop metal geared to the MTV audience. Personally, I like it! The best songs for me on this album are "Home Sweet Home," "Raise Your Hands To Rock" and "Tonight (We Need A Lover."

I don't remember buying this through Amazon, but Motley Crue is awesome and so is this Album.

Motley Crues first 2 albums "to fast for love" and "shout at the Devil" had some punk rock elements in the sound. this album is sonically slower and more blues influenced with a very little amount of country-rock injected into the album. If u like ZZ top and old Van halen u may like this album. This album is considered to be Glam metal.

Vince Neil's embarrassingly, uh, "lacking" album cover shot is indicative of the naive and raw 1982 debut of the now-famous Motley Crue.

There are highlights and some amateurish low-lights on this album. I own the original vinyl release and have not listened to any remasters or mixes on CD.

This album sounds like a quality basement recording of a band who've written some songs on the early 80's LA metal scene, with potential.

The songs are very consistent, all are of similar quality and aren't nearly as dark or sinister in nature as their next release, "Shout At The Devil," (when they hit it big on MTV and the charts).

Motley Crue are a result of post-punk LA metal where image, attitude, stage presence and the ability to write good, catchy songs were the key to success, mastering your instrument and writing deep lyrics were not required.

The sound of TFFL is a bit more bubble gum and stripped down than anything else in their long career, making it a novelty and more of an indulgence if you grew up listening to early Motley Crue.

If I had to pick favorites it would be "Piece Of Your Action, "Starry Eyes," the title track, and "Merry Go Round."

It's a bit silly and funny at times, not purposely, but again it should be something you know if you're a fan of the Crue in any sense. Personally I quit listening to them, outside of what Iwas bombarded with daily on the radio, after "Theater Of Pain." So, take my words with a grain of salt.

This is not only my favorite Motley Crue album, it's one of my favorite albums of all time! I think bands and artists are at their peak BEFORE they begin making money because they are driven by the music and nothing else. In my opinion, this is what makes a great record. It is the only way to truly get that special raw energy sound. Every song on this album is a GEM! I have a difficult time trying to choose a favorite. They all have a great "stripped" rock sound.

this is the album that made me the rocker i am today. never disappoints

Too Fast For Love was a great debut album. The guitar riffs were explosive and great songs on there were Starry Eyes, Take Me To the Top, etc. I thought Too Fast For Love was a great name for the title because it's a great song. I thought it could have had a little more songs on it but other than that everything was great, especially the album cover.

This album is good but I like the older live album better. Some of the songs on this one are already on the other live album. Probably just another way for them to make money.

They throw in some older songs that you won't find on other recordings and a couple of new ones from Red, White and Crue.

Awesome live album, The Crue live better than ever!!!!! Can't wait for the next album!

I commit no sin by saying I am #1 Crue fan in Mexico. My devotion for this band is beyond words but...
When I attended two of this tour's shows (one in Mexico City, the other in Laredo, TX) I was already thinking about the DVD and Live Album. When both products came out, it took me minutes to have 'em on my filthy hands. I spent many days filling my ears with the exquisite material but after a while, something started to sound a little too familiar. A soft noise, something on the back. Primal Scream was the test track, I played it 5 or 6 times before I realized that there was a guy whistling many times,...it wasn't the number of ocassions that I disliked, but the identical way in which he performed it every time...It was a loop!!!! a recorded whistle over and over again. To my dissapointment the engineers did it in almost every song!!!!! The terrible, ear molesting, brain torturing whistle is everywhere!!!!! Since then I've tried not to pay more attention because I am sure that many more copy-pasted noises, screams, whistles and litter are staining this masters work.
The song selection is flawless, the desing, and general work is awesome! But those noises are a sign of something I don't even want to write about.
Long Live the Crue!

The two volumes of Motley Crue's Carnival of Sins cds have been rereleased as a double cd set instead of two separate discs. The music itself is awesome! I attended two concerts during the Carnival of Sins tour. The cd itself captures as much of the excitment as you can on a cd. However this is censored just like the previous edition. If that bothers you, go with the import version.

All Motley Crue fans, beware...this live album is censored. A couple years ago, shortly after the Carnival of Sins tour ended, Motley Crue released this same exact album exclusively through Wal-Mart. I bought it knowing the Wal-Mart version would be censored because it was Motley Crue, it was a great show and the setlist was top-notch. Then I saw the Crue was releasing the concert again, only this time it was going to be through major retail stores like Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. I figured, great! I'll get the uncensored version as well, right? Wrong. Sure the packaging didn't have a parental advisory sticker on it...but I figured if anyone is buying a live Crue album you should expect to hear all the F***'s and S***'s. I put in my stereo and low and behold it was the same album I bought a couple years prior from Wal-Mart.

If you're a Motley Crue fan, you want to hear how they REALLY are live without the censor police ruining an album. If the record industry wants to make 2 seperate versions of a CD, an explicit and a clean, fine. But album buyers should have the choice.

I rated this album 3 stars. It is a great concert, a great setlist and the band sounds very tight. You get a perfect balance of all 4 men and their instruments (the drums sound amazing!) This would have easily been a 5 star album, had it not been censored. If you're a Crue fan and you know what they're like live (and you didn't already buy the Wal-Mart copy) I'd pick it up. If you're a new fan that wants to hear how Motley Crue sounds live, I'd probably still pick it up since they sound great...just beware that this record does not represent a real Motley concert.

OK, just a very quick overview of this 1998 released Greatest Hits with just a few points that sort of spring out at me regarding this release that may give you some food for thought before you click `add to cart'.

1) Firstly this album was in many ways a stop gap release. The previous year the band had released Generation Swine which was critically panned and/or ignored. And not just because of the hangover from the grunge phenomenon. But basically due to it being very weak. So this album to me has always felt like a band realising that the spark had died and putting out another best of when the only product they'd released since the previous best of (Decade of Decadence from `91) was one album with Corabi singing which was ignored and G/Swine which was very poor. It's not like the world was hungry for another best of that would by definition probably just overlap with the previous best of.

2) The album itself doesn't seem to hang together. For some reason it doesn't induce the listener to repeatedly hit the play button. It is actually a weaker collection of tunes than the aforementioned Decade of Decadence.

3) Despite my above comments I'd defend my score of 3.5 stars given the sheer brainless brilliance of some of the songs such as Girls Girls Girls and Kickstart My Heart and Primal Scream. Though quite what possessed the band to mess with their early daze classic Shout At The Devil I'll never know. But numbers like Looks That Kill and Same Ol' Situation will always have their place in party play lists due to their toe tapping energetic delivery and breezy simplicity of composition.

Fans should consider getting this, but given they probably have all the studio albums already they can probably burn their own Crue best of disc for their car/office/whatever. But still worthy of three stars. And dig the Draw the Line/Long Live Rock `n' Roll drawing of the band on the otherwise fairly horrid cover...

I hadn't heard Motley Crue in many years but one day out of the blue, I found myself singing on "Smoking in the boys room". I couldn't get rid of the song in my head, so what to do? Yes, I went down town to try to get the album "Theater of pain" which featured the mentioned song. I couldn't find it (guess these guys don't sell too many albums these days...), but I stumble upon this "Greatest hits", maybe even a better choice (?).

But with hindsight, Motley Crue's fame and popularity seems to have been more about image and attitude than making good music. Most of the songs sounds very thin and the guitar sound is far from good (is Mick Mars playing in a tin barrel?). Vince Neil's singing abilities can sure be questioned and the same goes for skills in the writing department. Motley Crue were high priests of the dreadful L.A. metal scene that were doomed to collapse and leaving a permanent stigma.

"Smoking in the boys room" (a cover of course...) is still good, and some of the other songs can be listened to mainly for nostalgic value, but over all Motley Crue isn't a band that make you excited anymore. My point is that you should be aware of the fact that some music doesn't stand the test of time, and what you thought was cool, groovy or whatever some 15 years ago may be rather ridiculous today!

Great compilation of tracks, but this is a band that can not get away with just a greatest hits. This is a band well worthy of a box set!

After watching the hit t.v. show "Behind the Music," which happened to feature Motley Crue one time, as well as the new (soon-to-be-hit-show) "Driven," which also featured Motley Crue, I just HAD to run right out and purchase a copy of their brutal yet fun greatest hits. I'll tell you one thing, THESE GUYS ARE A TRAIN WRECK JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN!! At least that's what all these shows about them seem to suggest. As for this fun Greatest Hits album, it's got all the Motley you could ever want - AND MORE!! The songs about girls and excess will always be classic, but I prefer some of their more serious songs, the ones about changing yourself for the better and loving who you are.

Well, if you're up for some brutality and ballads all in one sitting, don't miss this batch of essential Crue hits. You won't be disappointed.

In some respects, I'm not really the right person for this review. I've never been a big fan of hair metal, but only a fool wouldn't recognize Motley Crue as the bad boys of rock in 1980s. These guys did it all! Their music was the soundtrack of true decadence, and this incredible hits collection is a sample of their sound: loud, dumb, and fun guitar rock. Their lyrical range sure doesn't go very far, but who cares? "Dr. Feelgood," "Looks That Kill," and "Smokin' in the Boys Room" are such undeniably guilty pleasures that have aged well. I totally cannot believe I'm writing this, and I'd never thought I'd live to the day I'd actually praise the Crue, but you should get your hands on this collection even if you're a casual listener like myself.

1981 was a peak year for rock music. I can remember being a sperm in my fathers nut sack and thinking about how SO many great records came out of this year, alot of bands were splicing styles, mixing up a raw breed of metal, punk, and glam, that hadn't gone into the void of hair metal yet. It was the pinnacle of a building rock sound that had started rolling around 1974, and just got harder, faster, and more tripped out as it went along.
Motley Crues debut album from this year is no exception. The following year would bring Shout At The Devil, where the Crue blew heads with a room filling, ace kicking sound (this was before the outrageous eighties production values) but on this first album, the production is very meat and potatoes, and is all the better for it. No other Crue album has the same straight up feel as Too Fast For Love. This one is a straight up hard rock classic. LIVE WIRE is a killer track, and is the template for most of the bands future hard rockers, but every other song on here a unique slice. Take the title track, completely a raw type of energy on that one, shout along chorus, almost a punk song. The ballady STARRY EYES with its haunted heavy mid break section. The ripping PEICE OF YOUR ACTION, or the head spinning MERRY GO ROUND, or the plain old bad assness of PUBLIC ENEMY #1. This is a rockin peice of work, and undoubtedly; along with the follow up, Motley Crues finest hour.

This was early Motley Crue with its real raw sound and lyrics. Eveything was upfront and thunderous like real heavy metal should be. Created during the era when metal was rising. Attitude is the main ingredient for the recording of Too Fast For Love.

One of the most powerful debut's in rock history. Motley Crue delivers big time on this album! You love metal/rock look no further!

The essence of a raw rock n' roll record, Mötley Crüe really score with this, their debut. Before they had fame and fortune, they put out this record. It has none of their hits, but so much grit and groove. I've heard that this is, essentially, a demo that was rushed out as an album. From the sound, that may be true. Songs aren't tight, in that well rehearsed way, and Vince misses a note or two, but there's a lot of good rock n' roll here. Highlights are opener "Live Wire" and "On With the Show."

The bonus tracks (especially "Toast of the Town" and "Tonight") flow really well with the original album. I honestly didn't know they were bonus tracks, for the longest time.

This is the greatest glam record of all time. Way better, more pure and harder rocking than Shout at the Devil.
