Musiq

What can I say is that I luv luvanmusiq! The sound is fresh and original. I love the beats; especially in the selections on b.u.d.d.y and Teach Me. Luvanmusiq has a hip-hop/rap sound, but more mature that adults can really get into. I'm glad I purchased this CD.

The first time I listened to this album, I thought Musiq lost his touch that was shown on his 3 prior albums. I took another listen to it and grew to like it more. Its a really good album. Musiq has really changed the game of R&B. I know D'Angelo came before him, another classic artist, but Musiq brought his own style to the game. I can't really say which are my favorite songs because I like all of them.

Musiq is back and better than ever! I was reluctant to buy this CD because although I still have aijuswanaseing and juslisen in HEAVY rotation on my iPod, I was sorely disappointed with soulstar. I finally bought luvanmusiq after receiving a gift certificate. Let me tell you, I made a wise choice. You can really hear his maturity as a man and as a musician in this CD. Each track flows effortlessly into the next. Each track allows us to witness his maturity from pining after the Girl Next Door on aijuswanaseing to really reflecting on what it takes to become a Better Man on luvanmusiq.

Since I waited more than a year to buy this CD, hopefully his next release is coming up soon so I won't have a long wait.

I guess my title says it all. I really think Musiq did it this time. I have all 4 of his CDs and this one is right up there with his debut for me. On Luvanmusiq, I found that I enjoy the entire CD except for "thequestions" which is just a lil boring/sappy for my taste (sorry, lol).

Anyway, on to what I love about this CD. Great Ballads! And really great uptempo grooves! It's really hard for me to pick favorites on this CD. I definitely think that as great as it starts off, it gets even better towards the end from Millionaire on...wow. I really hope he can follow this one up with something just as great.

I have all of Musiq's albums, so I'm a true fan. This one is like the others--soulful, beautiful, and touching. My favorite is "TakeYouThere". I can listen to it over and over. The lyrics on his songs are always so endearing and deep. I just want to interview the man and learn what his love life has been like. He sings, and I feel his soul. Great album.

i have all of his cd's and i think this one is my favorite. i like every track on it.

This CD tries really hard to be creative and unique, but I just don't see it. It seems too contrived and fake. Almost formulaic. I feel like I've heard all the songs before.
It's not horrible though, don't get me wrong. It's a solid 3-star effort.

THIS GENTS DEBUT ALBUM WAS REFRESHING! I MADE ME REALIZE THAT THERE IS HOPE AFTER ALL FOR SOUL MUSIC. EVERY SONG ON THIS CD WAS WELL PRODUCED,
HIS VOCAL STYLE I HAD TO GET USE TO,BUT LYRICS OVERSHADOWED THAT.I HOPE THE MUSIQ CONTINUES TO MATURE AND GIVE US MORE OF WHAT HE HAS TO OFFER.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT SOUL ARTIST WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO.......NOT TIMELESS YET! BUT HAS POTENTIAL.

Well this album can be described in one word, BORING! Now i know for a fact i am not goinig to get alot of helpful votes on this one because for some reason people loved this album, even though it is truly boring. And it has nothing to do with Mr.Soulchild cause he did prove he has a great but very unique voice. He can do alot better than this, there is only like two maybe three songs at best on this album that i consider to be keepers. One of the being the mid tempo "Me & U" which sounds like it could be a Darkchild beat, this song he shows his vocals and the song actually has meaning. The other song being "Marygoround" which is very similar to "Me & U" in the way they sound. They just have totally different song meanings. The one is about love, while the other is about how she plays him. See the rest of this album is just boring nothing jumps out. I will admit Musiq does shine through a few of those boring songs with his great vocals but still doesnt save the album. Overall it is not a complete and utter failure for a debut album, but it is still not worth having unless you are a huge Musiq fan.

This cd is good, still his best. Intelligent and creative song writing with songs like Love, Me and U, Girl Next Door. He needs to find some of that to have an album equal or better than this one some day. A must Have

This maybe the most heartfelt album you will listen to from a recent artist. I'm buying this album for a second time b/c I played out the first copy. I touches every area of life. Its so down to earth that anyone can relate to what he's expressing. Theres no crap about sex in a club or getting tipsy, I'M A GROWN MAN. I can't relate to that. This is just a real album. Highly underated, but thats what happens when your content is too deep.

Musiq Soulchild is one of those artists that always shows their potential for greatness at every opportunity. I liked Aijuswanaseing but this album I love. Newness sounds like an updated version of Just Friend(Sunny) but its passable. Caught Up, Stoplayin, Babygirl, Realove are the funky tracks that Musiq always seems to excell in. Halfcrazy(first single), Dontchange, Onenight and Time are the beautiful love ballads that Musiq always excells in. Future is Musiq giving you words of inspiration that you should follow your dreams no matter what. Something is a decent rendition of the George Harrison tune by the same name. IfIwouldaknew(Girlnextdoor remix) feat Aaries is pretty solid too. There are some tracks I could do without. Previouscats and So Long are two of them. BestFriend is not properly executed so it ends up being laughable especially when the guest vocalist Carol Riddick joins in to give her two cents. Religious is an okay track but MotherFather is ehhhh. Bottom Line: Musiq's Juslisten is a pretty good follow up and is another notch in Musiq's belt. There are some times when the album falters but those times are far and between. All in all it was a great effort by Soul Music's(I refuse to say Neo-Soul) brightest star. Standouts: CAUGHTUP, BABYGIRL, TIME,HALFCRAZY, FUTURE, REALOVE, and DONTCHANGE

Whoa! This is a blast from the past. This is such a good album, i will be the first to tell you, i did not like Aijuswanaseing, i thought it was boring so i was surprised i bought this album. But something told me to give him a second chance and i did and i do not regret it for a second. This album is so good to see compared to all the music now a days, everything R&B now a days is all poppy and dance stuff. Which is cool sometimes, but its nice to see someone bring back that 70s/80s retro groove soul, that stuff that puts you in a good mood. Thats what this whole album is, but obviously with a more new sound to it, but for the most part its the type of music Marvin or Teddy would be making today if they were around. And its great to see that someone can still make that kind of music and still succeed in the bubble gum world of music lately. This will be a classic album for the ages right here. Its going to put Musiq in a league of his own because besides D'Angelo and Maxwell on occasion no one has made and album with so much soul and groove in it at the same time. I mean the standout in my mind is "Religous" which is how Musiq describes his love for his girl, but its got this 70s soul bounce feel to it, just one listen to it and it puts you in good mood. Then the other track that sticks out in my mind right away is "Previouscats" which is actually one of the few songs on this album that doesnt have that soul feel to it, this is just another great cotemperary R&B track. Its a mid tempo story of how his woman doesnt trust him because of the pain caused by her previous boyfriends. I mean the positives are endless on this album and that goes without to mention the two smash singles "Dontchang" and "Halfcrazy". Just trust me buy this album, because i doubt there will be another one like this in a very long time.

It would be nice to submit a review if I actually recieved the product. It's been over a month since I used my gift certificate to purchase two cd's from Amazon - I have yet to recieve either one. I write this after numberous attempts to contact either Amazon or their participating vendors with no success. I'm trapped in email hell without anyone giving proper attention to the fact that I've been ripped off! I would prefer not to use Amazon since this is the second time ordering from them has become a problem - the last time my product was shipped half way across the country!

Musiq's sophomore album was "Juslisen" (2002) an eighteen track release from the Philadelphia singer. After the introduction Musiq get's things started with the upbeat "Newness", getting to know a woman and asking her questions. A couple of decent track's follow and lead up to the impressive single "Half Crazy" a track where Musiq sings about moving from a friendship to a relationship. With the deep "Time" Musiq provides another standout reflecting on his own growth and love. My favourite track on this release is the slow love ballad "Don't Change" - Musiq provides an outstanding track about life and love - in a track about timeless love. Musiq shines on this powerful and heartfelt track about true love. Musiq pays his respects to his parents on "Motherfather", then drops another memorable slow jam with "Something". The bonus track is a semi-decent remix of "If I Woulda Knew" which was featured on the first album. The music on "Juslisen" vibes well, Musiq provides a lot of upbeat track's, I agree with reviewer J. Highsmith who found the highlights of this album to be in the slow jams. 3.5.

Soulstar, Soulchild, whatever, just keep the Musiq COMING!!! Musiq is a talented, original artist. Not in an eclectic Erykah Badu kind of way, but more like a Curtis Mayfield. Shucks this CD is so good that the first time I listened to it in my car I stopped at the package store to get a pint of Hennessy.... It's old school brown liquor GOOD!!!! Like a good vintage wine, it keeps getting, better & better with each listen.... His creativity with the Monopoly game in "Womanopoly" is sick!! Fantasia can have her "Baby Mama" anthem, Musiq keeps it real with "Babymother"! Aijuswanalisen!!!

Musiq's first album Aijuswanaseing was wonderful. Juslisen was great album to follow it up with and Soulstar is his continuing his consistency in giving you great music. Soulstar feat Carol Riddick is dope intro to this album as DJ Aktive provides scratching over the track. Youloveme is pretty decent follow up track but it's not vintage Musiq. WhoKnows is vintage Musiq. Forthenight feat Aaries was a good first single for the album as the two sing about not being ready for a relationship. Womanopoly has a creative storyline involving women with Monopoly as a backdrop. Infatueighties is another great track with singing over a booming bass beat. Thereason, Her and Whereareyougoing are also highlights. There are some songs that could have been left off though. The Munsters theme music sounding Romancipation is one of them. Dontstop feat Bilal is a failed club joint. Momentinlife feat Kindred The Family Soul and Cee-lo is far from terrible but it needs work. The rendition of Mick Jagger's Miss You is forgettable. Babymother is kind of weak and Givemorelove and Leaveamessage are boring. Bottom Line: Soulstar is still an exceptional release from a singer that has never given you a reason to doubt him as one of R&B's best acts. Even though he might have a song here and there that is not his best, he still gives you a quality music the rest of the album so a few minor missteps can be forgiven. What more can I say. Musiq is on fire! Standouts: WOMANOPOLY, FORTHENIGHT, INFATUEIGHTIES, WHOKNOWS, THEREASON, HER, and WHEREAREYOUGOING.

This album was damn near unheard of. I mean it did not even crack the top 25 album sales in its debut week. The problem with this album is that it is a mix of to many different styles. Unlike Juslisen which fit together perfectly, this album is a mess. And they did not choose a good single for this album as it did not break the top forty songs once. Overall sales wise this album was a failure. It was not a failure music wise, even though it was no where near the level of Juslisen. It still managed to produce a few solid if not great tracks. Such as my favorite on the whole album, "Youloveme" which has bounce to it, and it just has a great story, its the man simply asking his woman... "You love me dont you???". Then there is the very smooth and relaxing "Infatueightis" which describes the infatuation stage of love. I mean other than those two stand outs the rest is decent at best. Like i said earlier the biggest problem with this album is that it does not fit well. All the songs dont go together. But it is still better than Aijuswanaseing by far. Soulstar is at least listenable. Only buy if you are a huge Musiq fan.

Soulstar is the soundtrack of my life, and the awnser to every problem that i can't awnser with logical reasoning. With every track theirs an awnser, solution, or idea that makes you think, about life, love, and decisions. He is the male India Arie. I loved Musiq ever since Ijustwannasing. "Mary Go Round", "Me and You Against", and "Just Friends" were my favorites off his first album and now his third album i love every song. I must have played this album every where i went. Musiq is also good for just listening to get your thoughts in order. He pusts relationships in retrospect with harmony and rhythm. If your not going to buy it, do yourself a favor and just skim through. There's something for everyone.

Give Musiq a hot track and he's gonna tear it up.
As evident on Womanopoly, and infatueighties.
but then again, i dont like slow beats.
But this gets a 3 off the strength of the 2 tracks.

Musiq's soulstar his third album release was somewhat mediocre compared to his earlier albums, don't get me wrong I love this album from tracks like "whoknows" which is a song about a guy trying to take it to the next level with his girl which he feels could catapult them into love, its basically about letting go and acting on their attractions toward one another. On this track excellent vocals, instumentals, and lyrics, good song. Another song I like is "momentinlife" which is song about what we all really want a moment in our lives where every thing is working out for us accompanied by Cee-lo and Kindred the Family Soul this is an astounding uplifting track. I also enjoyed his Rolling Stones remake of "miss you" and the intro "soulstar" which is a beautiful song with melodic vocals of Carol Riddick, the beat, harmony and overall theme, you'll listen to that one at least five or six times in a row. Also this album has somewhat of a Stevie Wonder feel to it. Like in the song "where are you going" kinda gives you that vibe but I love that track. Besides the tracks that I have named this album becomes repititous at times like he just trying to come out with an album fast. Musiq's attempts to make us dance with songs like "forthenight", "don't stop" featuring Bilal, and "Romancipation" are futile efforts and shouldn't be further explored. Like I said ok But not his best.
