My Chemical Romance

This is a very provacative work. I have been listening to it nonstop for weeks. I love it. MCR is a great band and I will be waiting for their next endeavor eagerly!

This CD reminds me of that choked up feeling you get when you listen to Queen and you feel like the music is bigger than yourself. It really is beautiful, and passionate, and makes you feel alive. Epic.

I thought that this album would just be the same as the others but wow was it different! It was slightly like other songs in the way that they have taken bits of them to improve there old songs but I am not saying that the original stuff wasn't good but it could be better. The one song i am not sure about is i don't love you. This album has slightly gone over the top with things about death and breaking hearts. But I would suggest buying this album if you liked there previous stuff.

Shooting for the housewife and schoolgirl vote with a piano ballad that's the collaboration between Keane and Fall Out Boy we hope never happens in "I Don't Love You?" Lame.

The feeling you get after The Black Parade ends, when you can't figure if you just heard the worst prog-rock album ever, the worst off-Broadway soundtrack ever or the worst Goth-punk album ever? Lame.


Knowing it doesn't matter which of the three The Black Parade leans to most, as, when it's all said and done, over-the-top crap is over-the-top crap no matter where it comes from? Lame."

Now, I'm not exactly a goer of this website (I really don't care about professional websites, anyway), but I thought this was an apt description. This album bites and it still warrants another hideous one star review.

Like the other parents that have enjoyed this music because of their kids, I have to say it is very theatrical, musically progressive and fun.
Yes, there is a parental advisory but I suggest you listen first before you judge. It has a few "potty words" but nothing extreme and I don't feel its really worthy of the label like some of the current mainstream music today.
If your kids ask for this one, give it a shot- you will most likely end up enjoying it yourself.

I seriously believe this is the best album (especially MCR album) I have ever heard. Yes I am one of those punk kids who dies their hair and wears black, but I was doing all of that long, long before I heard any of MCR's music. I believe their music is really inspirational and sung well. I also do like groups like the Sex Pistols, but I think MCR is way better.

Fast shipping. I received the CD a couple of days before the date marked. The CD was in good condition, there were some minor scratches, but the CD played perfectly. The case was not cracked or broken. Everything was in a good condition.

I heard The Black Parade for at least a year, always complaining extensively about it, then suddenly realized how great it was. It was sudden and completely unexpected. I guess I just had to get used to the very dark and somewhat violent lyrics. But I have to say, now My Chemical Romance is one of my favorite bands ever. I heard about Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and got it since I was such a great (if late) fan of the other CD. At first I wasn't that impressed. But by the second time over I heard it, I was already convinced it could compete with The Black Parade. However, I don't think I would recognize it immediately as My Chemical Romance as based on their other CD. For one thing, on average, it's a much heavier CD, (for example, here you don't have any songs like Cancer, with just piano, or Disenchanted, with soft guitar and a little drums). There's no piano here and all the songs are obviously love songs, which wasn't true for the other CD. The rather jazzy undertone from TBP is absent here. Besides, Gerard's voice is very different. At the beggining of Cementery Drive I thought it was a woman singing. And, well, not much in the matter of music, he looks completely different. All songs have more or less the same structure and if I have to point out a weak point is that the last thrird of every song is like they're just filling in some more time by repeating parts over again and adding some unnecesary instrumentations. Still, all the songs are excellent, although I don't particularly get the Interlude (although it's just 57 seconds). Also, I don't think sensitive people should read the lyrics, because they're a "little" violent.
All things considered, it's still the best sound I've heard in a long time, not since their other CD and Evanescence. I recommend it. They deserve every bit of their five stars.

I hate emo. I hate bands like Taking Back Sunday, Finch, Hawthorne Heights, etc etc etc. This is a dying trend of music that came and went pretty fast in the 2002-2005 time period, and frankly I'm glad it's gone, even if the pseudo hardcore/ freaky deaky stop-start-stop-start music is no better.

So what is it about this CD? Well this is what it is. My Chemical Romance and the Used, which are the only two bands in the emo/scene that I can deal with without wanting to kill myself because of how bad the music is, have one thing that the other bands do not. Rhythm and flow. That is, the music sounds like rock music that is chock full of quirks and curveballs, not a bunch of incoherant sounds that were accidentally meshed together and then saved by mistake. No, My Chemical Romance, while I admit that I used to hate, actually deserve some credit here, because they manage to make a music that is so incredibly mainstream friendly, but they still stay true to the fact that they are musicians. The craft songs that have a rocking feel to them, that you could bang your head to if you wanted. YES I SAID BANG YOUR HEAD NOT HARDCORE DANCE LIKE SOME OF THESE OTHER BANDS OUT THERE. Now I don't know what fans do at shows like these, I've never seen this band live and never intend to. Honest to God I sold this CD to protect my ego and pride, and get some money to buy some more Bad Religion, but I burned myself a copy before I did and every once in a million years I listen to it, because as much as I would love to dismiss this band as mainstream codswallup, I can't, because they're not. Their new CD, the one after "Black Parade" has rumors about it returning to a simpler punkier feeling roots. If they did that, that'd truly be great. They need to step away from the mainstream garbage because quite frankly, they're a step above it.

I don't have all that much more insight to the typical person who would read this review or like this band, but that's okay 'cause they probably spend more time in Hot Topic than they would actually reading anything, and they probably already have this CD illegally downloaded for their ipod anyway, so it's not like I'm going to be the decision maker as to whether you buy this CD. But if I hypothetically was the decision maker, I'd say borrow it from someone, listen to it, maybe burn a copy, and if you're really into that, why not buy it.

Highlight Tracks: "Thanks for the Venom" "Till the End" "Give 'em Hell Kid"

I purchsed their first album "I Brought You my Bullets, You brought you me your love", and I was taken aback my how great these guys are. So as soon as "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" was released, I ran out and bought it. I was NOT disappointed at all, amazing album. Every song on that album is beautiful. Gerard Way has an beautiful voice, and does an awesome job of making you feel the emotion of the music, I mean really feel it. This being their sophomore album, they definitely didn't hit that sophomore slump as most bands do. My favorite song on the album is "Thank You For The Venom", the words to that song are BEAUTIFUL. Especially "You'll never make me leave ,I wear this on my sleeve Give me a reason to believe." "Gimme all your poison, and gimme all your pills, gimme all your hopeless hearts and make me ill. You're running after something that you'll never kill, if this is what you want then fire at will." There is definitely a story behind this album, and you can hear the story in each individual song. This album takes you on this amazing journey. It's beautifully put together, and I listen to it just about everyday :)!

I have a new favorite concert video. As great as Live in Texas was (Linkin' Park) and my previous favorite, The Who Live at Royal Albert Hall, this one out performs them all!

First, a slight technical quibble. The case is CD sized, not DVD sized, so shelving is more difficult. Second, why oh why do they insist on still producing DVDs that default to the 2.0 audio track rather than the 5.1? There is simply no reason to do this! If you have a 5.1 receiver, you'll get 5.1 and if you have a 2.0 receiver, you'll get 2.0 even if it is set for 5.1, so why add the unnecessary step of having to switch the audio format each time you play the DVD.

There, that's out of the way. Now, the good stuff. No one gives a live show like My Chemical Romance, no one! Add to that a cinematographer who understands that we pay to see the band, not the audience, and you get a great view of a great performance. Now, the editing is fast and choppy when the music is fast and choppy. It just adds to the great effect. Finally, even though I don't pay to see the audience, the audience in Mexico City is the best audience ever! Most audiences sound like a crowd of drunks, but these folks can carry a tune. More than that, they actually sing backup! Listen during "Dead" when Gerard Way gets the audience started on the background vocals, then he takes off on the lead and the audience stays on the backup! Awesome job Mexico City!

I can just watch this one over and over again. The NJ show is a throw-in and I have watched it once. It is a nice extra, but the main show is what I loved!

Not a huge fan, but I have all of MCR's major releases, and was looking forward to a live DVD. Unfortunately, for the main event (the Mexico City concert), it's a disappointment. Gerald's voice is very weak, especially early, and as the better songs (imho) are all on the first half of the set, it gives a very flat feel. The band is fine, and the concert was clearly high-budget, but the vocals you get on the studio album seem to come through in small bits and then it's whisper-like, almost talking as much as singing. Too bad.

The other DVD track with the off-message show that was just a band was a lot less theatrical and less interesting to watch, but much more appealing to listen to. Somewhere in the middle could be a great show (or, I guess a terrible one); it's a shame that they didn't pick a better performance to film for the main event.

This CD is okay as it is just the compilation of already released songs played live in mexico. I was a little disapointed cause I though it was a NEW cd and i couldn't wait to buy. i already have all of these songs!!! any way it's worth the price cause of the AWESOME DVD!!! it has 2 hrs or so of live footage at the mexico and new jersey show. the jersey show is excellent and feels like your there, w/ the band & GERARD!!!! so, yeah totally recomend. (if you can find cheaper than 20.00 or the DVD alone i would recomend that more.)

My Chemical Romance, a band from New Jersey releases a CD/DVD combo which covers their last tour for their Black Parade Album. The DVD contains some great live footage from Mexico and also footage from a concert they had last year at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. The CD is all live songs also from the tour, but if your a fan, the video makes buying this a must. Awesome!

I'm brazilian and I went to MCR concert in Sao Paulo earlier this year, and they are AMAZING! The Mexican concert captures all of MCR glory!

My Chemical Romance's quality and originality has decreased steadily since this CD. Those goth-looking and alternative rockers are not what My Chemical Romance started out as. In this CD every song is unique, each with their own touch in both music and lyrics. The whole album carries you in an avalanche from begining to end, and somehow the slower songs have as much energy from every source as the harder, louder ones. Gerard's voice is just amazing. Completely original and full of uncontained, raw energy, unlike, I regret to say, the later CDs. The lyrics are just damn amazing, to the careless eye open and somewhat violent, but under that shallow layer (which seems to be what My Chemical Romance stuck with for The Black Parade) lies a world of coils and metaphors.
Now I'll do a review of each song, because they're all so unique that I can't capture the whole album in a panoramic view.
Romance: A short, musical introduction which sets the stage for the next song. Beautiful and romantic, in a My Chemical Romance sort of way.
Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us: Yeah, I love that title! The song is more breathtaking than a fall flat on your back and just as impacting. The lyrics are simply superb in that MCR "open" style with all those twisty little metaphors inside of it. The singing and music are amazing also, leaving me to wonder why they changed. This is MUSIC the way I've never heard it before.
Vampires Will Never Hurt You: At first I thought it was a roll and tumble downhill after Track 2. The melody didn't seem to follow a set pattern and it seemed as though the words didn't really fit. Then I realized they were all points in favor for the song. It makes it diferent and unique, and the fact that they pulled off this dangerous variation only proves them better. Gerard doesn't shy away from a good scream, and they carry the song not only on but up. I cried with this song.
Drowning Lessons: Half a step down from the previous songs. While the lyrics are just as good the melody is a little on the hysterically happy side. I can tell that they did it on purpose and I admire them for trying this variation but they fell a little short.
Our Lady of Sorrows: Oh man. The energy of this song is just unmatched. The only thing I have against it is that it's too short (a mere 2:05 minutes). It's what I call "Wham!" Just about left me on the ground (again).
Headfirst for Hallows: Another of the Drowning Lessons type. Here they did better though, with more apt lyrics for the mood.
Skylines and Turnstiles: *Snif* One of the saddest songs ever written. It had me crying by the fourth line. From what I've heard, it's the first song Gerard wrote (album-quality, of course). It's about the fall of the Twin Towers. It just brought me back to the moment it all happened and all the pain and sorrow and USELESSNESS of it all. I've honestly rarely cried like I did lying in the dark listening to Skylines and Turnstiles.
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville: This song, while being much slower than the others, and down-tuned musically, is the pinnacle of Gerard's singing. The sweet, romantic start fades into a desperate cry of mysery and pain. I cried through the whole thing. There's something about the way Gerard chokes out "But does anyone notice? But does anyone care?" "And there's no room in this hell, there's no room in the next" and overall "And in saying you loved me made things harder at best" that just reveals the part in you that cries not only its eyes but its heart and soul out.
This Is the Best Day Ever: Another short one. Precariously balanced, I think, on slightly different lyric style, catchy guitars and singing and the strategy of racing through the song, it did quite well.
Cubicles: Although not my favorite song, the proud owner of the best line ever written: "I'd photocopy all the things that we could be if you took the time to notice me". And I'd plaster that phrase all over my room if I could. Just wonderfully ironic and metaphoric and smooth all in one.
Demolition Lovers: what can I say. If I had to pick my favorite out of the whole CD it would be this one. Another crying song, by the way. Not so sad this time, just so incredibly beautiful. "I'd end my days with you in a hail of bullets.//I'm trying, I'm trying, to let you know just how much you mean to me.//As snow falls on desert skies, until the end of everything." Everyone displays their talents without plain showing off (as they did in the ending track for Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge). It starts out slow and then builds up to a eardrums-blasting grand finalle, both for the CD and for the last "real" My Chemical Romance we will probably ever hear.

I bought this for my 13 year old, she loves MCR and was happy that it arrived in less than a week! It was packaged very well also.

I bought this album when it came out in 2002, andI'm still jammin to every song like I did when I first played it. It's a great album, and I sometimes prefer this album to the other two that the band has made. All of the songs are great to listen to over and over again. I have recommended it to many of my friends who are just as obbsessed as I am, and we all agree on one thing...

I bought this cd last summer and am still enjoying its content.
This cd is wonderful for people who like hard fast rock, and want something interesting to listen to. It has interesting, deep lyrics that will leave you with much to think about long after you listen to it. I wouldn't recommend this cd for someone who was attracted to My Chemical Romance's music because of The Black Parade, because the styles are very, very different. However, I would recommend it for people who were attracted to them by Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, because the style of the music is much more similar. This is an awesome cd and it will keep you entertained for months.

If you love MCR and good music, you have to have this CD. It's their beginning, how they started off; it's great. I absolutely love this CD and haven't heard anything else like it.
Buy it, you'll love it even if you don't like their later CDs (which i doubt).

Everything was in very good condition. The CD'S and DVD had little to no scratches. The case was in a very good condition along with all the inserts. I was really happy with my purchase.

From the first second to the last I feel tempted to play it all over again. My respect for them increased after I watched the DVD, this show why they write their music. Hearing their inspiration and how they made the band made us fans closer to them.

Go and buy you, you'll laugh the whole time!

I LOVE THIS THING! I CAN'T STOP WATCHING IT, ESPECIALLY ALL THE MAKING OFs. (those are really funny) My favorite part is the part where Gerard has his iPod and singing "DREAM, OF COUNTING CALORIES!!!" and the Bob and cameras part. Its not boring, and it has a lot of funny parts. If you don't like MCR, i suggest you go away, 'cause they rock. :] oh yeah, and i'm waiting for the black parade is dead to come out in april :D

Yeah, there are some S-bombs but the F-bombs are completely bleeped out. And besides a CD that is clean doesn't necessarily have no swearing.

Do you like Incubus? They have a CD called Make Yourself and it has F-Bombs that AREN'T bleeped out.

Why would you need a CD that's not explicit just cause you're in school anyway?

Don't we all have iPods or other mp3 players where the sound only goes to OUR ears anyway?

The first time or two that I heard this CD nothing really stuck out as catchy or noteworthy besides Cancer. That one stuck out right away.

Now all the singles plus Cancer, Sleep and Mama and such stick out and I'm ready to give this CD about 4 stars.

I'm rounding it up because the other guys complained because it wasn't clean. I only got this version because it was way cheaper than the unedited version (used). Usually, I CAN'T STAND edited stuff. But they still drop S-bombs here so I was pleased.

Standouts (no order):

Sleep, Cancer (my favorite), Mama, Famous Last Words, Teenagers and Disenchanted.

end note: (11-4-08, 7:13 am) I want to get to know this CD more before I stamp an accurate rating on it. But it's somewhere around 4 stars.

This isn't clean. What you get is a shorter version of Welcome to the Black Parade, all swears intact (including F-Bombs), and the sense that you just waisted money. I bought the Limited Edition CD (which is essentialy the same as the regular album with a different box) and then bought this so I could listen to the songs in school. I was so pissed off to find out they didn't edit a single swear. Just buy the real CD.

If you are looking for "The Black Parade" without explicit lyrics, THIS IS NOT IT!! This just has the shorter (single) version of "Welcome to the Black Parade" other than that it is the same as the version with the parental advisory on it. I don't understand why they put this out labeled this way. It doesn't even have the "clean" singles verion of "Teenagers" that was used for radio play.

Now, I'm not exactly a goer of this website (I really don't care about professional websites, anyway), but I thought this was an apt description. This album bites and it still warrants another hideous one star review.

Like the other parents that have enjoyed this music because of their kids, I have to say it is very theatrical, musically progressive and fun.
Yes, there is a parental advisory but I suggest you listen first before you judge. It has a few "potty words" but nothing extreme and I don't feel its really worthy of the label like some of the current mainstream music today.
If your kids ask for this one, give it a shot- you will most likely end up enjoying it yourself.

This is a great cd! I love the B-side songs too--Kill All Your Friends and My Way Home Is Through You. I only wish Heaven Help Us was included on here also.

The CD was what I expected in terms of My Chemical Romance's awesome live performance. Being a CD dedicated to their Japanese fans, I was impressed to find the lyrics translated - and done so fairly accurately. I would like to have been able to find the information about it being an EP, with only 6 songs, easier than it was. That was information I didn't find until after I had already decided to place the order.

the cd was nothing less than amazing. the product arrived in great condition and i've been listening to it since i got it! i couldn't be happier! :)

The price was phenomenol, and the response time was great. The product was in the condition promised. My son loves this band, and thought the CD was awesome. We were very pleased!
