The album is a dream beginning with the reflection of oneself, and it produces a thought, "It's so hard to love your body..." It produces a lot of concepts, beginning with that one. After that, you kick back, relax, and enjoy the dreams as you may begin to find yourself dreaming along with the songs too. It is a trip of mellow undertones, relaxation, and a subtle passion hitting your heart with each guitar swoon and vocal line. The seventh track, "She's A Ghost" seems to be a distant day dream of the day something happened, and it hurt your love from the outside in. Simply acting on that to get away as stated in Jake Bellows lyrical line, "Just do what it takes." It ends with a man and his dream. I mean, I could go on and on, but listen to this and you might be feeling the warm fuzz that listening to an old folk or rock record from the 50s or 60s produces, or the 70s folk rock of Neil Young or Crazy Horse. I'm not gonna go on and on about how perfect this album is. Anyone that has listened to it knows exactly what I mean when I say it is "melodramotically exceptional."

I heard it playing overhead in a music store and was instantly hooked. From the slow, to the catchy, each song will make you reflect on life's circumstances.

Do not expect an instrumentally complex album. It's simple, but very effective. The lyrics are, deep, rich and emotional...be prepared, this album will break your heart, then make you smile.

This is an amazing band, especially live- i saw them play with Bright Eyes and it was the greatest show i've ever experienced. Give it a listen. I also recommend their self-titled album (I love the song "Dances Fantastic".

This album helped me get into the grove of this surprisingly under-known band. One would think that after their ep with Bright Eyes, their new release would do very well, but i have found that many people just dont know about them. I suggest buying both of their albums, but you may have to listen to them a few times to really get a feel for them, which will then make you fall in love with their very distinct style.

neva dinova have dropped to a lower key with "the hate yourself change". after some time in the studio and on the stage with bright eyes, they've taken on a charming new collection of pop songs focusing on depression, loneliness, etc. it comes damn near to breaking your heart a few times, but then they smile and wink and we all sigh in relief. i really do like these songs, but it doesn't feel complete for some reason. they don't work together that well and i think neva dinova is good enough to pull off a really good album. they're growing in a new direction that's worth a listen, but really isn't much better than their debut. i hope that they pull it together and release something truly great someday, but i'm satisfied giving this a spin every now and then in the mean-time.

I've followed this band for a while now, yet all of the CDs I've ended up buying by them have been collections of very good songs with mildly interesting ones sprinkled in throughout. Hate Yourself Change is different. Every song grabs you and makes you want to hear it again, just to make sure you heard it right. This CD really shows Neva Dinova's musical maturity, yet not losing any of that personal feeling to the music that makes you like them in the first place. Two of my favorites from the album would have to be "Can't Wait to See You" and "She Can't Change". "She Can't Change" really lays their band's composition open at the end, when they slow it down and then build back up, showing their instrumental layers as they layer three guitar parts and then the drums and it really catches hold of you. This album is a big step, very accessible and the ending makes you want more.

I stumbled across this band one night while searching for new music (something besides the same old boring crap). I was very happy that this cd has the rarely found unique quality of making you feel like you've been on a journey (like reading a great book).

I am slightly embarrassed that i heard about this band when i was a Bright Eyes fan, but they are very good. They dont try to overly impress anybody with fancy guitar solos, they focus primarily on lyrics, and they do a great job with them. They have a very distinct style that i am drawn to because of its emotion, but not to the point where it is annoying. Their simple and pretty melodies put the listen in the perfect state to recieve their lyrics at the right frame of mind. And surprisingly, every thing sounds sweet, like the tone was set just right when recording, its truely beautiful.

That just about sums it up pretty good. It's a low key album (with a few exceptions) that's good for autumn and the winter months. I really like the lead singers voice, for some reason it's very calming and compliments their style very well. What I found very surprising was the instrumentals on here; the guitar in Dances Fantastic is irresistable. Lucifer's Lament is another great song but goes in a slightly more acoustic folksy direction which works very well. Mainly i like this record because there are so many different sounds and styles on here yet they always keep their mellow-ish cozy sound. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is b/c there are a few fillers on here but they are by no means BAD songs. It's a solid record and very enjoyable. Oh and by the way I'm not emo and neither is this record. There really needs to be less labeling and more listening....

Its a beautiful olla podrida of sound, stumbling in a sincere poise and science of rock songs; lonely ones that will stay to dwell in your ears.

This album is a must for anyone who loves heartfelt emo. Brigt Eyes and Cursive fans will want to add this to their collection. The songs are melodic and downright beautiful at times.

Jake Bellows' [the 'other guy' singing] and Conor Oberst's voices and styles mesh perfectly here and every song on this EP is worth hearing again and again. 'Get Back' is probably my favorite. I'm a longtime Bright Eyes fan and Conor's influence is apparent even on songs he's not singing lead on.

Conor Oberst himself has said that this is his favorite music he has created. That should be enough said.

But while Neva Dinova's contributions on this EP clearly outweigh those of Bright Eyes, somehow it works. All six tracks on this disc are painfully beautiful -- and, perhaps shockingly, -- those sung by the Neva Dinova singer are the best on the CD.

"Poison", "Tripped", "Get Back", and "Spring Cleaning" are four of the best songs you will ever hear. The two songs sung by Conor Oberst, "Black Comedy" and "I'll Be Your Friend" are good, but not great.

I can't overstate how amazing these songs are. If you're into either Bright Eyes, Neva Dinova, or modern indie rock, odds are you'll love this disc. It's absolutely incredible.

It appears that this EP was designed to get Neva Denova some releases out there alongside Bright Eyes. Well, the Bright Eyes name got me to buy this, and its very good. Neva Denova is worthy of playing in tracks alongside of Bright Eyes tracks, and I enjoyed this EP very much.

While it's true Bright Eyes only performs two songs on the split, fans of Connor will find themselves easily falling in love with Neva's smooth, similarly meloncholy style. It is blues at it's bluest, capturing life at some pretty sad points. However, the rolling style in which they sing, just makes it so easy to learn the words and sing along. I emphasize that it is very sing-a-long accessible. Even though the content is sad, there's something about singing along that feels so...uplifting. It's a great album to listen to when you've got something on your shouders, cause singing along just lets you- put it down.

I would assume that most people buying this album are Bright Eyes fans. Only two of the songs are sung by Oberst. Spring Cleaning is written by him but the other guy sings it. Black Comedy and I'll Be Your Friend are the only two he sings and they can be downloaded on Itunes for 99 cents a piece.
