Nickelback

Awesome CD! There were only 1 or 2 songs that I wasn't thrilled about, but the rest I kept listening to over and over.

I don't even know where to start. I've always liked some of Nickelback's songs from the very beginning but never could like an entire album of theirs so I just never bought a Nickelback album.

Then one of my friends who also loves the true rock like I do was telling me that this album is everything and more that I love about being a rock fan. So I heard some songs on YouTube like Gotta Be Somebody and just totally fell in love with that song! I mean, any true rock fan would be crazy to not love that song.

So just today I went to the store and bought this album and from the time I started listening to the time I made it home, I heard the entire album from beginning to end and I am just totally speechless! I just cannot believe that a band whose albums I've never liked in their entirety before could make a total masterpiece like this where when I got home, I felt like the album just started!

I mean, I was completely in rock heaven and never once got bored! Even some Def Leppard Hysteria sounds I heard on this album and just couldn't believe how much this rocks!!

My all time favorite is Gotta Be Somebody and other all time favorites are I'd Come For You, Burn It To The Ground, Something In Your Mouth, Never Gonna Be Alone, and Shakin' Hands but this whole album just totally rules and there's no reason at all for anyone who loves true hard rock to not love this!! And especially since this album actually has REAL guitar solos that have been missing for so long!!

This is just too awesome for words and I will be keeping this CD in my CD player for months to come and I will always be hearing this album for years and years! THIS is what Nickelback are all about!!

I love this cd. I have probably listened to it at 500 times. I don't think there is a song on it that I don't like.

I'm a big Nickelback fan and this is easily their best album yet! There is not one song on it that I don't just love. It is a rock-n-rock trip that everyone should hear.

It was cheaper here than anywhere else I looked. Always have fast delivery, well packaged items, when buying from Amazon.

This is as generic and bland as rock music can get. This CD is immensely boring. This album basically embodies all the stereotypical radio rock elements you can image.

If you want the monotonous truck-commercial sounding riffs and awful wannabe-Pearl Jam sounding vocals, you have it all in this album.

There's honestly A LOT a band can do with 2 guitars, bass and drums. What drives a band to produce a CD of music which seriously sounds like it was made specifically for the radio? Probably money. Don't buy this album if you're a music fan. Leave this one for the casual radio listeners.

This album earns 5 stars from me! I love Chad's voice. The way he croons "hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar!" just blows anything sung by Roger Daltrey or that Plant guy out of the water! The way he sings the deep lyrics "look at this photograph, every time it makes me laugh" just tears out my heart. He sings with such honesty and integrity with a gritty edge to them that assures me that Mr.Kroger is one of the finest vocalist of all-time. The virtuoso guitar playing, maniac drumming and intense bass makes this album a true winner.

This is possibly nickelback's best cd. every song is awesome. i especially love the base on animals. all in all: this cd ROCKS!

The CD is great, but I will never shop at Amazon again. It took over 3 weeks to get 3 cds from California, I live in Reno, NV. Not acceptable!!!

Where to start...ok, these guys are obviously pearl jam wannabes who are bad at what they do. pearl jam isn't even good to begin with so why they copy them i dont know. all these songs sound the exact same! they are also all about pretty much the same thing. why they have fans, i dont know. i actually went out and bought this cd, i brought it home and listened to it, then burnt it.

This CD makes NICKELBACK famous - worldwide. And i can only agree with other customers. It's still the best! The Real Thing - because of tracks like "HOW YOU REMIND ME" and my all-time favourite "TOO BAD". It hits you like a hammer! That are burners! Because of that 4* - The rest is trash!

All other albums haven't got a soul - every single repeats itself. In a very few moments Chad can get a hit (for example only in corporation WITH SANTANA "INTO THE NIGHT" 2007). But that's it! I LIKE NICKELBACK VERY MUCH, but every artist had TOP CLASS times - now (in 2008) it's going down... Mainstream - making money as much as you can...

WHEN YOU LIKE NICKELBACK AT IT'S BEST - TAKE THIS ONE... (from 2001). This album contains the hot stuff.

Whenever I hear these singles on the radio, I want to gouge my ears with an ice pick just so I never have to hear another Nickelback song. I flip through 4 stations and sometimes all 4 are playing Nickelback(or someone trying to sound like them). If this is the sound of this generation, then music is dead.

Nickelback is one of those bands that critics and "real music" fans hate, while their fans lap it up in droves. To me, they are the typical saga of a hard-working road-warrior band that finally grabbed the brass ring. Listening to "Silver Side Up" drives the 'bar band makes good' tag home, with a caveat inserted...I pretty much like this album.

Granted, Nickelback distills their favorite bands into an easily digestible sound. Soundgarden and Alice In Chains seem likely contributors, but in my heart, this reaches back to all the travelling bands of the 80's like Reo Speedwagon, Head East or BTO from the 70's. Singer Chad Kroeger has a distinctive if not very distinguished voice, the songs are generic grunge-lite, and the band throws in "issues" to make themselves relevant. When the lead song on your album is a chord bashing revenge song about an abused spouse who fights back, well, it ain't your typical party anthem stuff.

However, that happens to be the best thing here (and when you remind yourself that the followup The Long Road's "Figured You Out" is a song about debasing someone sexually, it seems off-kilter), and the album soon begins to sound like the same song 9 different ways. That's not to say that Nickelback is bad, they stand out from most of the early century grungettes (Staind, Puddle Of Mudd, Incubus, etc) that seem to think sounding heavy substitutes for good songwriting. And if there's one thing this band has a knack for, it is laying down a hook, over and over. Both "How You Remind Me" and "Too Bad" deal in sour topics (a cynical break-up and growing up without a father) while sticking to the roof of your brain.

So critical and snobs be dammed. "Silver Side Up" matters most to the folks that buy CD's. In a time when hardly anyone, even the heavy hitters, can sell past gold, Nickelback (along with Daughtry) was one of the very few rock acts to go multi-platinum in 2007. From the POV of the jury of purchasing peers, their workmanlike chops and rock-cum-pop sense gets the last laugh.

Having heard the two most popular albums by Nickelback, SILVER SIDE UP and ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, I decided to buy this one as well because I knew a few of the songs on it and remembered that I didn't have this one yet. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but after listening to it a few times I decided this is their best album of the three that I've heard. It's the closest to perfect I've ever heard on a post-grunge album.

I thought SILVER SIDE UP was too heavy on the guitars and all of the songs sounded too similar, and I thought ALL THE RIGHT REASONS was a better album but sounded too forced for the mainstream. This album has the perfect balance of metal-influenced heavy rock and hook-filled choruses that would sound great on rock radio (a few of them proved they do). The reader is probably familiar with at least the song "Someday". That song and "Do This Anymore" are probably the most ballad-like, with lyrics focusing on broken relationships over soaring harmonies and great hooks in the chorus. Other songs are heavier, such as the barn-burning opener "Flat on the Floor", "Because of You", and the merciless guitar-riffer "Throw Yourself Away". What makes this album stand out from the aforementioned others is the consistency of this album; the band knows what they're doing and sounds like they're having fun doing it. Even on tracks like the acoustic-based "Should've Listened", which is a step in a different direction for the band, the quartet pulls it off perfectly.

Buy this album if you're a casual Nickelback fan like myself, and get a taste of this popular group at their best.

Note that in my introduction I've pointed out that this album has increased the number of options the band has for it's live set. What it doesn't do is expand the Nickelback sound beyond some slight alterations to the production qualities from their previous album. What it does do however is to expand their catalogue with more of the same accomplished and very rock radio friendly hard rock. And there is nothing wrong with that.

What your unlikely to get from this band are departures like their heroes Metallica did with their Load and Reload, this is a band that seems very focussed on what they want to achieve and they go after their targets and it's a form of professionalism that can stunt creativity a bit but it also produces consistent results.

Listening to this album while writing this review it becomes apparent that the bands love of musuclar riffing that bludgens their audience has not diminished. Opener Flat On The Floor is a perfect example of the sort of post grunge hard rock rifferama your going to get with this. Second cut Do This Anymore is more of the same with it's Chad Kroeger vocal lead laid over the top of unspectacular yet insistent guitar blasts.

This consistency means Nickelback are a very safe bet for punter, their fans know just what they are getting in the same way that AC/DC fans or Yngwie Malmsteen fans know what they are in for before the disc even hits their stereo. That could be construed as a bad thing but I'm willing to forgive Nickelback their familiarity, their lack of real departure from their norm, in order to get an album I know I can throw on and listen from beginning to end.

That's not to say that there are no variations from the opening note to the closing one. There are rockers such as the first two cuts mentioned earlier. There are songs that are ballads and there are songs with a sense of humour, all tied neatly together with that feeling you get when one of your mates starts telling you a story you've heard a dozen times before. And there are a number of songs that fall somewhere between rocker and ballad, a sort of rock radio staple sound and I find it impossible to hate Nickelback for their discovery of a successful formula.

With musicianship that's of a decent standard yet never ego driven, good production qualities that retain a human feeling and a feeling of familiarity in almost every sound bite this album is more of the same in the best way.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this album as I do "For all the right reasons" I can't imagine anyone not liking it. They are my favorite band ever (and I'm almost 50) and I never get sick of listening to them EVER!

FAN 4 LIFE!!!!

I bought this CD shortly after I bought my Father the limited edition version , my advice is , if you don't own the Punisher , Daredevil or three sided coin CDS , buy the limited edition version , otherwise this CD is a must have.

I just heard the song "Figured you out" last week - June of 07'. I was flipping around on my car radio, and stopped on this song cause it totally rocked! But, once I payed attention to the lyrics, I was appalled they were playiing this song at 1pm in the afternoon! This song is degrading to women - it promotes sexual violence and applauds a female who is submissive and has low self esteem. How can we as a society say it's okay for radio stations to play a song like this, especially during hours most children could be listening. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed in Nickelback for writing this song - as well as the new song "Rockstar". Shame on you guys. You may not have asked to be role models, but you are now. Show some integrity and live up to it.

I can't listen to mainstream rock anymore and these guys are to blame. Everything sounds the same - I don't know if these guys are trying to sound like everyone else, or if everyone else is trying to sound like them. Either way, it just makes me want to throw my radio out the window and learn to play music myself. Anyone with any musical aptitude can write and perform better than this drivel.

not as good as their "reason" cd. This one is sort of like a bunch of racket. Gets better each time one listens to it

I received what I wanted in a very timely fashion, would do it again.

In my opinion, this is the only Nickleback album worth buying. All of their following albums sound like they are trying to make radio friendly songs, as opposed to a great album. Not that this album is great, but at least it sounds like they made an attempt. The same can not be said for their other albums. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with any Nickleback album other than this one.

Most people consider this to be the first album by Nickelback, but Curb was actually before this one (1996). However, this was the first one (2000) on a lable that could push them (Roadrunner). I heard Leader of Men and Breathe a few months before they started getting radio play and I knew this band from Canada was something to contend with. Little did we know silver side up was going to be a massive pop/rock success, and bring nickelback into everyhouse hold, from teenage girls singing along, to 20 something metal fans rocking to the cruching sounds, to Mom and Dad finding something they like as well.

Highlights from this album are Breath, Leader of Men, Old Enough, and Worthy to Say.

For first time fans (hearing them on ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, or THE LONG ROAD), you might not like this right away, but it will grow on you quickly. For those of you who heard them back then, and just havn't picked this up, what are you thinking, BUY IT NOW!!!!!

I'm not a Nickelback fan; I'm one of those people who thinks they've been releasing roughly the same three songs over and over again for the past few years, and don't really have a high opinion of them. That said; by circumstance I ended up with this album, and as I started listening to it my first thought was: This is Nickelback? With relatively unique grunge-style material? While not the best by any means, it's still pretty decent and worth a listen.

this is nickelbacks debut album from '96 or so...this album is very good, my personal favorites are little friend, curb, and i dont have. the reason that this cd only gets a 3.5 star rating is because most of the other people that reviewed this CD are fans of newer nickelback..."mainstream nickelback" this is before they sold out to make their millions

all the songs in the whole alblum sucked and i bought it because all of the other cds were good i thought this one would be good too bad it wasnt if you want to buy it do if you want to waste your money

I'm sorry, but this just doesn't sound so great to me. If you like grunge, try Pearl Jam or Nirvana -- they're so much more original and... convincing. Sometimes Nickleback sounds like they're trying way too hard (or not hard enough?). Seriously this is kid's stuff, man. Don't say I didn't warn you.

In a world of iTunes and music downloads, we often download only our favorite tracks, missing out on the art in an entire album. Get "All The Right Reasons" and discover the tunes not on the radio or top downloads... bet you have a new favorite track.

Nickelback needs to stop making music. They are one of the most overplayed band on the radio these days, and their music is trite and forgettable. No one will even care they existed in 5 years from now.
There are hundreds of better bands, new and old. Listen to them instead.

Originally, I had purchased this for my daughter. It's mine, now. This articulates what Rock is. It ignites those smoldering embers of Rock 'n Roll we have been anxiously prodding over the past couple of decades. The drums on "Animals", get out! Can't listen to it enough. This is certainly Nickelback's best album.

I've listened to this several times, as well as an older Nickelback. I think this one's better. The earlier one I've heard is harder rock. This one's more my taste - a mix of rock/ballad stuff. Great sounds.

Very few bands actually rock out these days, and it seems that Nickelback is one of the few.

I wanted only the single song, so I bought this and I don't regret it. The 2 versions are great.

Can you pour more sugar over top of this song? Sorry... A long fall from the old days. I can't be too excited about any album that Mutt Lange is producing. Makes we want to play Pour Some Sugar on Me or some other cheesy 80's pop/rock song. Heck, I might even break out a Shania Twain album!

I really like Nickelback, but this song is pretty top 40...Usually they do pretty well at the songs that don't make the radio...let's see how the rest of the album goes...all I know is that now I get to see them in concert again, and they play a rockin' live show!

This, THIS - is the reason I listen to NICKELBACK. I listen, I reach for the emotion in the music, and to be able to match it to the untreated emotions of disappointment, jagged emotions poking prodding at our motivation. Say it out loud and it is heard and shared...hope.

This band's secret dream is to open for Bon Jovi because it is the same "cut my hair and go girley" brand of rock. This is synthetic leather music that is for people who drive a Geo or a motor scooter. Yes, Nickelback now has a song for those that have PMS.

I recently recieved this as an Easter gift. The format that Amazon descibes isn't exactly correct. They say this is live, when the CD is not, but the DVD is. I have owned 4 copies of this disc since it came out in '01, because I played them to death. This is absolutely worth the money. Plus, if you're an Alice In Chains fan there is a little bonus. On the live DVD, Nickelback+Jerry Cantrell perform "It Ain't Like That", a song off of Alice In Chain's "Facelift". I highly recommend this live DVD+CD set, it's one of the best.

As a fan of Nickel back this is the bomb, I wish more bands bunddled DVDs with CDs or put both video and thier tracks on DVD.
