Nizlopi

I absolutely love these guys. I don't know how well known they are in the UK but it is a shame that more people do not know about them in the states. I definately recommend this album.

I also bought this CD after listening to JCB song... which is amazing. I was never expecting this CD to become one of my favourites EVER though!!! It has the most amazing groove feeling, great lyrics, horns and of course standup bass. Every song is a hit! If you like Van Morrison, John Mayer, Norah Jones or any great song writer... then trust me you will LOVE this CD... and pray that they come to Canada soon!!!

I came across a Nizlopi song while listening. It sparked my interest because of it's unique sound. Lots of accoustic guitar with capo. Along with an upright double bass and a human beatbox. So, I picked up this album and wasn't disappointed. I don't know how to describe their music in terms of other bands as it is so unique. It's from England, so it doesn't get much attention in the states. Check out the samples and if it intrigues you as it did me, then it's a must have. However, in my opinion, their two best songs are on another album entitled JCB Song. "Helen" and "Clear" are just hard to beat.

Why these guys aren't huge in the U.S. is beyond me. I feel lucky to have discovered them. The music is great and refreshing.

Arguably one of the best albums around at the moment. A superb balance of traditional folk and soft guitar give it an excellent vibe. If this was a a drink it would be a vintage red wine. The songs Girl, Faith and Wash away are just a selction of the songs that send a shiver up my spine and there are not many songs that do that to me. The JCB song was great for the first month but that has now, unfortuantly, been overplayed and the life has been squeezed out of that song. Sorry Jason but no disrespect but you are so wrong about this band. My only fear about this band is that the songs they do release will suffer from being over played and will be a victim of the corporate machines. Long live Nizlopi.

I love this song - its innocent lyrics are so touching in a world where every song seems to be about a hollow kind of love. Cute.

Nizlopi were a rather obscure UK folk pop act, and "JCB Song" sold only a few hundred copies when first released. However, the duo made a sweet, homemade video and posted it on their website (it's still available); the song subsequently became a sensation. Re-released on a major label, "JCB Song" recently debuted at #1 on the UK chart, preventing Westlife from claiming yet another chart-topper. Hee!

So is the song worthy of this adulation? Sure, it's a simple folkie winner. The wistful lyrics are told from the lead singer's point-of-view when he was five. He and his dad are driving a JCB - a large construction digger - down the bypass. His young mind imagines his dad as Bruce Lee and using the JCB to crush the school-yard bullies. The lyrics are somewhat silly, but the tone is reminiscent of Alan Jackson's brilliant "Drive" - just a dad and son bonding. Relatively few songs explore the father-son relationship, and "JCB Song" is a surprisingly strong addition to the list.
