No Doubt

I've listened to this cd alot and I love it!.My second favorite is "Rock Steady".

I don't usually like many greatest hits cds because many artists tend to leave out my favorite songs, but I love No Doubt's The Singles 92-03. Each song from this retrospective is excellent and reminds me of certain times when that song was a hit. Tracks from Tragic Kingdom takes me back to middle school while songs from Rock Steady reminds me of senior year. I'm not a big No Doubt fan (I only have Tragic Kingdom) but this is hands down, one of favorite albums of all time.

I just pulled this CD out again after quite awhile - Hey, I was in the OC mood I guess, and who better to trash the suburban dream than Miss Gwen and her endless ska, bleeps and blurps. I can't help but to love this band of fun loving Cali kids. Walking into spider webs when you're just a girl will leave you feeling hella good... shhh.. don't speak just listen.

Every single little ditty is here in full glory and I guess it takes a few years off to go back and revisit just why Gwen and the boys became so popular. Every single is infectious and excellent, and so much better than the solo stuff Gwen has been playing out.

Perhaps now that the band has reformed we will get the band experience as Gwen is never as good on her own as she is with the band and the singles compilation is definitely the best place to go to relive the No Doubt experience.

I have not listened to the entire CD since I bought it. Go to I-Tunes and grab the one or two you really like and keep moving.

This CD is amazing! It is so high energy and fun! This is No Doubt at it's finest and it's most fun! The songs on this CD make me get up and jump around like nothing else. I would recommend this CD at anyone looking for something amazing, fun, and full of attitude.

Bottom Line : Buy this CD! You won't regret it! :)

Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt is highly overrated. The songs released were pretty good but after all these years, this album is dated and annoying now. This disc is heavy in ska which is no longer popular, no wonder they had to change their sound after this album. Don't Speak was a great ballad but after you hear it 30,000 times you get sick of it. The only track I still appreciate is Sunday Morning, great hook and chorus. This album is considered their masterpiece, but I've heard better.

I adore Gwen Stefani.Tom Dumont,Tony Kanal and Adrian Young are awesome!.If No Doubt were back togeather and released another album,I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Rock Steady by No Doubt is their last studio album before Gwen went solo, and boy that was biggest mistake she ever made. Gwen can't sing but the band rock! Gwen is all about image and looking good (which she rarely achieves) she knows her voice is lacklaster and that's why the only thing she can focus on is the materalistic BS! Rock Steady has too many producers and not a clear and simplistic sound. Songs I do like include: Platinum Blonde Life, Don't Let Me Down, In My Head, Hella Good, and Running. The rest of the tracks are over-played and filler. Hopefully the band will reunite in years to come but the talent and success doesn't go to Gwen, it goes to the hard-working and under-appreciated guys.

This CD is too much of a detour from their traditional sound, but it is pretty good anyways.

Rock Steady by No Doubt is a mixture of good tracks with some rather fluffy, insubstantial, not too creative stuff. The album begins with some catchy, energetic tunes: Hella, Hey Baby, Making Out. Underneath it All is a slower, crooning tune. Thereafter, the album doesn't really have much punch. Detective is kinda catchy, but also silly. Don't Let Me Down and In My Head and light and bouncy. Platinum Blonde Life has a good rock edge and is a good tune to have toward the end for some balance. Overall, a very listenable album, but doesn't register too much impact on the listener. Tragic Kingdom was more forceful.

I have always liked No Doubt no matter what everyone says, on this album you can tell what direction the band was heading towards its more pop with a mix of everything from reggae/dance/80's new wave/funk/r'n'b/rock and No Doubt's music has always been diverse but not like this so you can understand why some fans were upset including myself, it wasn't untill I heard this at a party in 2003 thats when I dicided to check out this album cause I wasn't interested at the time and I'm the type of person who listens to heavier music. This album was good but only if you don't compare it with Tragic Kingdom, you have songs like Hella good, underneath it all, platinum blonde life, start the fire and the funky and catchy song with Prince called Waiting room which is my favorite cause it sounds like an 80's r'n'b song from Prince and Gwen does a good job of singing on this she sounds really good or Hella good ;-) bad joke, the whole album has its moments but there are some bad songs like Detective and In my head which just sounds repetitive and some parts sound like a video game with the weird sound fx. Overall this album is quite catchy and fun to listen to especially if your a No Doubt fan atleast it was better then what Gwen Stefani did with her awful solo career.

Return of Saturn by No Doubt is considered their most mature but least-selling album. This album is good but not brilliant, there are a lot of slow songs with heavy lyrics which are nice but depressing. Bathwater, Dark Blue, New, A Simple Kind of Life, and Magic's in the Makeup are standouts but the rest of the album gets boring pretty fast. This is a mixed bag but I like it better than Tragic Kingdom.

IF you like No Doubt before they hit the main stream, then you should get this one

Pros: Great songs with a unique feel to them and the sad themes never become too mellow-dramatic, they're balanced well.

Cons: A few songs need a bit more energy...

I must confess, I'd never been familiar with No Doubt as a band before hearing Return of Saturn. I'd only heard some of their singles (I'm Just a Girl, Don't Speak, Hey Baby, Underneath it all, etc.) I also stumbled upon "Comforting Lie" and was blown away. Wow! That song alone is amazing - the heightened beat, drums, and Gwen's voice all come together perfectly. So I bought Return of Saturn just to hear the rest of the album. I wasn't sure what to expect. By the time I was done the CD I was satisfied.

One thing No Doubt does best is create catchy melodies; but changes things up a bit. "Ex-Girlfriend" for example, is a great song you want to get up and dance to. On the other hand, a "Simple Kind of Life" is more relaxing; whereas "Six Feet Underground" recalls a more retro (maybe 80s) feel to it and "Home Now" has a very sweet nostalgic feel about it. Most of the songs have their own unique feel to them, making each one a nice surprise. This is wonderful because if I find a song is predictable, it gets disappointing.

Lyrical content is quite surprising as well. This is considering that some of the songs could potentially be immature. Most artists are unable to capture the emotional impact of the message without sounding like they're whining. No Doubt manages to avoid both pit-falls. Even on the break-up songs, ie. "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Bathwater", the lyrics are sung with a sense of maturity about them. Gwen Stefani (lead singer) allows the listener to feel the emotions through her singing; but at the same time creates a more pensive atmosphere to the songs. She sings about the issues people think about daily (Being jealous of others, wearing a mask, the repetitiveness of life, lying for love, etc). Yet, Gwen allows a sense that you're taking a journey through a person's mind. She's not trying to belt out a message, but merely allowing their listeners to interpret and apply what they see in a song, what's presented, to their own lives. It's a different approach and it works very well.

So why only 4 stars? Well, I find it just falls short of a 5 star album. I believe it's because there are a few songs, in listening to the whole CD at once, that seem a tad mellow compared to the others (ie. New). Now, these songs aren't bad, but I feel they just need a bit of an extra push to them to allow me to get more into the song.

In conclusion, the CD shines for the most part. I'm not disappointed, so I would say if you're looking for a new band to check out, No Doubt would be it.

Recommended: Yes. Return of Saturn will be worth your time and money.

I believe this is No Doubt's best cd. The hits on this album are great: Ex-Girlfriend, Simple Kind of Life, Bathwater.... but i also love the other songs..... Suspension without Suspense, Magic's in the Make-up, Artificial Sweetener.... wow... I love all the songs. I am a huge No Doubt/Gwen Stefani fan...so I'm very familiar with all their CDs.... If you like No Doubt at all....this is the CD to own.

It would take another 5 years from "Tragic Kingdom" to make the follower "Return of Saturn" and many things happened since, On the previous we found Gwen Stefani sing about the painful breakup with bandmember Tony Kanal where most of the songs were Ska/Punkish, now 5 years later Gwen was over 30 and was not only more mature but wanted to get married and start a family also. The music was also closer to New Wave, like early Cars even if some songs are still on fammiliar territory. While this may have alienated some fans from "Tragic Kingdom" this album show growth as a band and "Saturn" works fantastic as a concept, instead of recycling what worked in the past No Doubt tried something new and it worked just fine. However, there aren't as many highlights for the charts on this album but it's still perhaps the concept of songs that makes it this good. "Ex-Girlfriend" reminds you of their previous album's song's. A catchy ska-punk song and also a hit single. This song is actually about Gwen's future husband Gavin Rossdale. Second single called "Simple Kind of Life" is one of many simular song themes of this album which deals about Gwen's maturing and realizing what she really wants in life. In the video for it, you'll also see her getting married. The song is more of a midtempo but equally strong as the first single. "Bathwater" and "New" were also released in some countries as single's and the first a catchy uptempo is pretty good. The second is a new wave song. Good songs continue throughout the album with "Artificial Sweeter" about trying to be happy on the surface but feeling bad on the inside "Magic's In The Makeup" wether people would still love her underneath the makeup and "Suspension Without Suspense" about being in a relationship that doesn't go forward. I think No Doubt's music is excellent, their sound is unique full of admiration, but their best ability is to create feelings that fans can relate to and songs that really mean something. This album is a prime example of that where many songs are part of a concept with a mature Gwen Stefani dealing with relationship eventually leading to marriage and a family. I really can see why this album has a special place in many fans hearts, even if there weren't many hit singles like "Tragic Kingdom" here. Needless to say, this is another fantastic album from one of the best bands.

I don't have all No Doubt albums yet, but so far, this is my favorite. It has everything that was good about No Doubt: ska, reggae, punk, funk, and pop. Sure, I don't hate No Doubt's new stuff, but it doesn't really hold a candle to this. I can't believe this only sold a few thousand copies upon its release. I don't get it. It was better than most other albums out that year.
I also can't believe the amount of people that don't like this album. It may be the recording quality or whatever, but I still don't get why people don't like it. It's at least a little bit better than most that came next, in my opinion.
Anyways, there's the end of my rant. My favorite song is probably Ache.

Wow! This is one of No Doubt's greatest albums. Who knew? I grew up on Tragic Kingdom and The Beacon Street Collection back in the mid 90s, but I wasn't familiar with their self-titled debut until years later. I love all of their albums, from this first one all the way down through Rock Steady. But that's just because I have fairly broad musical taste. It ain't for everybody. The advice I would give to anyone thinking of buying this CD is to not expect it to be like No Doubt's later work. It's an almost completely different sound. You have to approach this record with the understanding that it's mostly lighthearted, upbeat, jazzy, and occasionally goofy Ska music with 80s New Wave undertones. It's not as "cool" as their other albums but it's very energetic and fun. So be prepared to hear the band's immense talent applied to a different musical style than you may be accustomed to hearing from them; and enjoy. I hope this helps some prospective buyers.

No Doubt's first self-titled album is an excellent ska album. It starts off with a really cool instrumental and has a bunch of cool songs that are fun to listen to and are totally different from anything you hear in popular music today.

A great album from a great band, a must-have for anyone who likes ska or is interested in 90s music. And even if you aren't sure, just listen to the 30 second samples and decide for yourself.

This was No Doubt's first album and has heavy use of ska and punk elements. You may not care for this style of music, but it is certainly worth a listen. Here's a song by song:

1.BND: It's an intro. It uses the very catchy ending for Brand New Day (but without the lyrics). It does its job just fine. 10/10

3.Ache: A funny song about toothaches and coding. It's ok. 8/10
4.Get On the Ball: First two or so minutes it's kinda repetitive, but then it finishes with a cool jam session. 9/10

6.Sad For Me: It's one of their slow songs. You might not care for it. 7/10

8.Big City Train: This one's ok, not really special. 8/10

Though a bit Bare Naked Ladies in humor, which I appreciate, my favorite part of this album is listening to Gwen's huge control in her voice; what was she like 19 or 20? She's a huge talent as well as her brother. Though ska driven, I find it fun and quirky, couldn't give it 5 stars though because it does take a certain taste. I found Tragic Kingdom was more structured since it was with a larger label, this is what makes bands successful, but this first album was fun.

I didn't know this album was gona be this good... I LOVE IT!! :D:D:D Highly recommended, especially if you like No Doubt's older style and good instrumentation...

I tend to like No Doubt's odd collections, like BEACON STREET and EVERYTHING IN TIME, because the songs that are left off the albums (or done on the side or, in the case of BEACON STREET, recorded while waiting for other things to happen) are less slick pop and closer to their first album. I was a big fan of theirs before they were famous, when I was in high school, and tend to prefer their more ska and power-pop songs.

First off, I would like to say that I love No Doubt (but though I love Gwen, and her music is good in its own way, I think that the solo career was a mistake). I think that they are the most talented band of all time, certainly the most talented band that I have ever heard. I just started to love No Doubt recently, and ordered all their CDs. Though this is a CD of B-Sides, I think that it is one of their best and that the songs should have all made it onto the records they were written for.

1. Big Distraction: 5/5. I love this song, I can't exactly explain why. The horn parts in it sort of sound like their early ska stuff, and I love the tune.
2. Leftovers: 4.5/5. Not my favorite on this CD, but it is good in its own way. It is a bit slow, and reminds me of a cross between something from Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn.
3. Under Construction: 5/5. I like the tune and guitar parts of this song. It reminds me of 'Six Feet Under' from Return of Saturn.
4. Beauty Contest: 5/5. A sad song, and has very deep lyrics. The phrase 'born to blossom, bloom to perish' is originally used in this song, but some of you may recognize it from Gwen's 'What You Waiting For?'. Wait until the last few seconds of the song, it's really cute!
5. Full Circle: 5/5. I love this song. The tune is really catchy, and the lyrics are good.
6. Cellophane Boy: 5/5. Another song that reminds me of a cross between something from Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn. Slow tune, not very catchy, but the lyrics are great.
7. Everything In Time (Los Angeles): 5/5. This song and Everything In Time (London) sound completely different, but they are both sad sounding and very beautiful lyrically.
8. You're So Foxy: 4/5. I like it, but it's just not one of my favorites. The verses are completely different from the chorus, and that's what sets it apart. On the inside cover of the CD, it said that this was a possible single, but if it was I don't think it would have even made it into the top 20. It doesn't sound like a song that you would hear on the radio.
9. Panic: 5/5. Love the lyrics, but the tune makes me all jittery. Another song where the verses sound completely different from the chorus.
10. New Friend: 5/5. This is one of my favorites from this CD. It's very reggae sounding, and the tune is so catchy! I think that this should have made it onto Rock Steady. Also, the song 'In My Head' from Rock Steady came from this song.
11. Everything In Time (London): 5/5. A very good song, great lyrics, but it makes me want to cry sometimes.
12. Sailin' On: 4/5. This was a cover song, it was originally by the Bad Brains. I like the way that they have adapted and made it theirs, their version is much slower than the original.
13. Oi To The World: 5/5. A really cool Christmas song. The lyrics are awesome, and though this wasn't their song originally, Gwen sounds truly great singing it.
14. I Throw My Toys Around: 5/5. This song was from the Rugrats movie, and features Elvis Costello. The tune is slow but catchy, and the lyrics are really cute.
15. New & Approved: 4/5. The remix is good, but goes on for too long. Personally, I liked the original better.
16 and 17. A Real Love Survives and A Rock Steady Vibe: 3/5. Catchy beat, but it isn't really by No Doubt. It mostly just has Miss Dynamite and Sweetie Irie rapping, and then occasionally has Gwen saying "A real love survives" in the background. Not my favorites.

No Doubt is one of those bands that trys new things, but still acts like.....themselves! They don't try to be someone that everyone likes, they just act like who they really are, and if fans don't accept them, then....fans don't accept them....but, saying that I would also like to add, that not everybody has the same taste---and therefore, don't always like the same genre of music.. but all I wanted to point out, is that Gwen is a beautiful hearted girl, and she loves being an artist and preforming and all that stuff.........this CD is one of the best that I've listened to in a really...really long time!!!! If you don't consider buying this CD, you're crazy!

I have been a fan of No Doubt for about 8 years now, and this is just a little something to show how much they have achieved.

The singles album is something everyone should own, track to track it is pure genius, from upbeat rocky classics that instantly put you in a good mood to slower beats such as running, that just make you smile and relax you.

Then the everything in time album, is just as good it contains rare songs and remixes, and they all hold a unique catchiness.

However the dvd's really top off this package, the videos dvd is pure genius the videos are amazing to watch, and the live in the tragic kingdom just gives you an example of how cool they are live.

If you are a no doubt fan, you must own this. Enjoy :)

I bought this boxset once it was released, and absolutely loved 3/4 of the discs.

I thought the first disc was great (A "greatest hits" CD witch just about every one of their best songs in one collection), I just didnt care for any of the music (Besides 1 song) on the rarities/b-sides disc though. I must've taken it out about 2 times before giving up on it.

Pretty much any No Doubt fan already has the content on the first CD (The greatest hits) and the real reason I bought the set were the final 2 discs, the DVDs.

The first is their entire Video Collection up to the point of Its My LIfe, the 2nd is the DVD Release of the VHS Concert "Live in the Tragic Kingdom" which I've been waiting for for quite a while and was the big selling point for me.

Each of the 4 CD's come in thin cardboard cases much like 'demo disc' or 'free trial' CD's, all packaged in a cardboard box about 2 inches thick.

2 of the 4 discs have been released seperately (The singles CD and the Music Videos DVD), each in *REAL* CD/DVD Cases for a low price ($10 each), Had the Tragic Kingdom DVD been released seperately as well, I would recommend the 2 DVDs + The singles CD opposed to this set, but since that didnt happen, I can easily recommend this set.

3 of the 4 discs are excellent for any fan, and others may like the 4th disc (The B-Sides disc) as well, but I just couldnt get into it. Alongside this set I highly recommend the No Doubt Rock Steady Live DVD.

For No Doubt FANS and casual listeners alike, this box set is a perfect way to sum up everything you've ever heard or ever wanted to hear. From their first radio hit, "Trapped In A Box", to their cover of "Ob-la-di Ob-la-da" and their wonderful video for "Underneath it All", this box set covers EVERY facet of No Doubt.

First is their Singles disc. You cannot go wrong with this, as every track sounds immaculate, including "Trapped", which sounds remastered and wonderfully louder. This disc also includes "It's My Life", their Talk Talk cover.

The next disc is their Rarities and B-Sides, which contains the cute Rugrats soundtrack song, "I Throw My Toys Around" and a couple remixes of "New". This disc makes the box set worth it alone, as all the wonderful "download only" No Doubt tracks are well represented in their full spunky glory.

The third disc is their Video Collection. This shows the simple mastery and wonderment of No Doubt, and the true constantly-improving glamour of Gwen Stefani. Their evolution from ska-punk band to electro-reggae-rock band makes sense while watching their videos. The themes in their videos range from Gwen's inability to snag camera time to a wonderful get-together involving spaghetti being thrown everywhere.

The last disc is something truly awe-inspiring, as it is a disc of Live performances from their Tragic Kingdom album. You cannot go wrong with any live performance from No Doubt. Their energy is high, and JUST in case you doubt Gwen Stefani's stage presence, see how much she sweats in every show. It's insane.

Just like you'd be to pass this gem up. Any No Doubt fan *should* already have this, but if you don't...here's your chance to redeem yourself. A+++++

This is a great set, and makes a great gift for every No Doubt fan! I got this for Christmas last year from my brother (THANKS, MAN!). If anyone is wondering about the Parental Advisory lable on the front,. it's no big deal. On disc four, the Tragic Knigdom concert, durring the song 'Just a Girl', Gwen pauses and says "F!@#$ you, boys". Like i said, no biggie if you dont mind that word.
You MUST buy this!

I love Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, adn I figured, to tide me over until the Sweet Escape, I'd get one of ND's older CDs since I have all of them Tragic Kingdom and on. It was between their debut and this. since Beacon Street got rave reviews, i bought it over the self-titled one.. When i popped it into my stereo, it was only alright. Some tracks were ok, but some made me feel nauseated and I could only listen to it for the first 5 seconds. *cough* blue in the face *cough* The only songs that I liked were By The Way and Doghouse was ok. I lovvveee by the way though. Overall its worth two stars for me. [I love the inside of the disc all the pics are so cool. I also like the disc with all the little band members!]

Beacon Street Collection is with out a doubt one of the best No Doubt cd's they ever produced. Second, barely, to Tragic Kingdom. the Beacon Street Collection is just great, true ska.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I like this one more than No Doubt's self-titled album. They are both excellent albums and everyone should listen to them at least once. Here's a song by song:

2.Blue In the Face: This song is really annoying to me; it's too slow and Gwen's buzzy bee noises are annoying. 4/10
3.Total Hate 95: No Doubt and Sublime team up to bring us this incredibly catchy and fun jam. One of my favorites from this album. 10/10

I highly recommend this album if you (1) are interested in hearing what No Doubt sounded like before Tragic Kingdom (2) you really like Sublime (3) you are just interested in high-quality albums that are generally avoided by the mass media. Easily one of No Doubt's finest, the Beacon Street Collection stars amazing frontwoman Gwen Stefani in the band's early, raw, ska sound. A must-have for hardcore ND fans!

This CD is amazing! It is so high energy and fun! This is No Doubt at it's finest and it's most fun! The songs on this CD make me get up and jump around like nothing else. I would recommend this CD at anyone looking for something amazing, fun, and full of attitude.

Bottom Line : Buy this CD! You won't regret it! :)

It's up there with BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK and HIGHWAY TO HELL.
It's that good.

Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt is highly overrated. The songs released were pretty good but after all these years, this album is dated and annoying now. This disc is heavy in ska which is no longer popular, no wonder they had to change their sound after this album. Don't Speak was a great ballad but after you hear it 30,000 times you get sick of it. The only track I still appreciate is Sunday Morning, great hook and chorus. This album is considered their masterpiece, but I've heard better.

Amazing CD. It is a must have for any No Doubt or Gwen Stefani fan.

This is a best of live compilation from KROQ's Acoustic Christmas (in New York) throughout the years. Only half of the songs are acoustic though, nor are there any Christmas songs on here either (incase you wondered). The slip on the inside of the CD features pictures of all of the concert posters for the 10 years that the Acoustic Christmas has been held. The CD starts with a stellar "non acoustic" performance from Blink 182 of a less than stellar songs. It's a very fast paced song complete with electric guitars. Stupid Girl by Garbage has some nice crowd reaction and it's a very nice version of the song, different sounding than the original version. I don't care for Everlast, but even What Its Like was pretty good to hear. Hole performing Doll Parts was nice, even though it does sound a lot like the original. Walking On The Sun performed by Smash Mouth, is not as good as the original song, just because this version is sang very slow, so you can understand the singer clearly. Spiderwebs has a fast new swing to it than the original has, but unfortunately the crowd is not into the song at all, when singer Gwen asks for the crowd to sing the next verse... there is absolute silence (its awkwardly funny). Everclear plays a slow country style version of I Will Buy You A New Life, singer Art's vocals sound slightly muffled though. Everything Zen has an incredible crowd reaction, girls screaming in the background, and the performance is every bit as good as the original. I'm not a big fan of Cake, but the Distance was performed excellently, with some good crowd noise and horns backing up the lead vocals. Fake Plastic Trees is probably the worst song, in fact I tend to fall asleep to it, because it is so mellow and slow paced. Unfortunately I have heard I Alone performed live so many times by the band Live, I no longer care to hear it. Finally, Blister In The Sun, I am surprised KROQ or anyone else remembered Violent Femmes! It's a very short and crazy performance, getting the crowd going.

i have this cd and its all live, i didn't go to the xmas concerts those years, but i went to the KROQ acoustic xmas concert this year and let me tell you... IT WAS FABULOUS! blink 182 is the best and the rest of the CD is pretty good too so if you like all these bands you'll love this CD

To clarify to those who don't live in the Los Angeles area, KROQ's almost acoustic Christmas is a concert held yearly that gathers top rock/alternative bands for one big show. This CD has songs from the past concerts. So if you like live recored performances, then this CD is for you. KROQ also produces a christmas cd with the same bands doing christmas songs.

To the NY guy who reviewed this cd saying it was supposed to be christmas music, IT'S NOT, and it doesn't claim to be. It is advertized as the best of KROQ'S annual show "Almost Acoustic Christmas", which is held around Christmas every year with punk and rock bands. This recording contains GREAT versions of live songs from Blink 182, Everlast, Everclear, No Doubt, Cake, Smashmouth, Bush and more. I am a big fan of most of the bands on the cd, so if you aren't a fan of mainstream rock, this one won't tickle you pink, but if you are a fan, this one's worth it! And thanks to the NY guy for giving this great cd one star simply because he mis-interpreted the title, GOOD ONE BRO!
