I love this soundtrack. The storyline is more relevant than ever, but even if it weren't the music is terrific.

Hair...the seminal Rock Musical for the ages... Once upon a time in the mythical land called America great thoughts and changes began to appear across the land. People, especially the younger one's began to actually listen to the music...their music...Full of promises and prayers, asking the questions and finding the answers... Love...Understanding ...fellowship... permeated the soft sweet aromatic waves of the times.
The age of Aquarius came and went...only the music remains.... Let the sunshine, let the sunshine, shine through...

I came to this backwards in time; I saw the movie version first and listened to that soundtrack. Go and buy that one, not this one; that one is way better. The musicality is outstanding on that one, whereas this has a second-rate AM radio sound. I was a pre-teen when the play of Hair came out and I remember most of the songs from AM radio in the late 60s--but after listening to the soundtrack I realize why most of the hits from Hair were recorded by other people. "Aquarius" was popularized by the Fifth Dimension. "Hair" was popularized by the the Cowsills. "Easy to Be Hard" was popularized by Three Dog Night. All those versions are better than the soundtrack (and some are not very good). Listen to Cheryl Barnes sing "Easy to Be Hard" in the film: it is outstanding.

This is certainly a classic of the era. To understand it fully you would have to have seen - even if it was 40 years ago.

King's Singers Greatest Hits was disappointing. The contemporary music included did not have the smooth feel that one expects, and the classical pieces were all right but not spectacular. I did not feel that some of these pieces were greatest hits. I will probably go back to listening to older collections of their music.

Kings Singers was a happy surprise to me when I bought "Beatles Connection", then I did not stop buying these extraordinary group and I fully recommend this double disc album, because it is a collection of the best of each album.

Everything from madrigals to the Beatles with a little Christmas music for color. Even if you're not a big fan of madrigals or folk songs, the King's have a way of making them thoroughly enjoyable and very easy to listen to. The track "You Are the New Day" will bring tears to your eyes - it's that beautiful. Can't say enough good words about the work of this group, from their beginnings to the present day, all reflected in this CD.

It is a beautifully rendered and a varied selection of excellent choices. The best I've heard and I love it! My favorite Christmas album of all time.

Over and over we played "Die Menge der Engel" - - it is stunningly beautiful! The loftiness of the voices, wonderful.

We loved the boys/children's choruses on many of the other pieces on the album. Duets by Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavorati - - magnifico!

It is a pleasant compilation of traditional favorites and awesome classical pieces that are worth listening to again and again.

If you love Christmas as much as I do, you will probably enjoy this album. It features plenty of standard favorites - especially sung by the MoTab, who seem to be a holiday staple. I probably wouldn't pay $17.95 just to hear songs like 'The Little Drummer Boy' of 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas.'

What makes this compillation interesting is the liberal sprinkling of less traditional - or, anyway, less well-known - classical pieces. Vivaldi's 'Gloria', Corelli's 'Christmas Concerto', and the opera 'Hansel and Gretel' all make an appearance. The standout, in my mind, is the ethereally beautiful 'Watt's Cradle Hymn,' which I have never seen or heard anywhere else - that one song alone makes this album worth a listen.

Good mix of the expected ("Silent Night", "O Come All Ye Faithful", etc) and the unexpected (the Vivaldi Gloria, Gabrieli, Schutz). Kudos to the Sony team for uniform clarity & quality of sound, despite source material from 1959 through 1998. Word to the wise: the performance of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" credited to Marilyn Horne is actually by Eileen Farrell from her excellent "Carols for Christmas Eve" release. No disrespect to Ms Horne, who is well represented by two performances with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. If you're truly a classical music fan but don't mind a traditional carol or two, this is an excellent buy.

The voices of the Vienna Boys Choir are as crystal clear as bells. Just the best renderings of our favorite Christmas songs and hymns. I have given several as gifts and no one was disappointed. A joy to listen to and sure to keep you in the Christmas spirit.

Did you know the boys from Vienna also sing in English? In this album they do. Drat. I should have looked more closely before buying it.

This CD is a holiday season must.The way these boys sings these christmas songs really puts you in that Christmas feeling.My favorite of course is track number 3-John Lennon-Happy Christmas(War is Over).But surely I will be playing this CD every day during the Christmas season.
Also this CD sound quality is excelent.
I fell in love with the Vienna Boys Choir a few years ago and in my opinion -I feel that the Vienna Boys Choir is the best Boys Choir in the world.
But sometimes I wonder If these Boys are a Heavenly Host Praising God.
Buy this CD and you will see what I mean.

With a fine combination of traditional and modern Christmas selections, this is the best Christmas album by The Vienna Boys Choir that I've ever heard, and one of the best Christmas albums still available by ANY artist. Included are very pleasant versions of John Lennon's perennial "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime", and Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree". Among the prettiest numbers are "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", "The Christmas Song", "Suo-Gan", "White Christmas", and "The Little Drummer Boy", but the best is saved for last - the seamless blending of the last three songs spread over the last two tracks of the CD is superlative.

When in Vienna we attending a Boy Choir concert.

Gave an album to each set of grandchildren. They loved it.

The Karate Kid (1985 film)

This disk brings tears to my eyes everything I listen to it. When I listen to "Best Around" I have the power to take on anything. Well worth it - everyone should have a copy of this disk.

If you enjoy this movie like i did then you'll want to have the soundtrack to this good movie or if you are a big Paul Davis fan like i am then you are in for a surpise so enjoy the soundtrack.

As a fan of 80's movies such as the Karate Kid series, it's fun to revist the nostalgia of the film in the music. Being able to play the music while traveling or even while at home relaxing, creates the mood and the enjoyment of the exciting story. You have to enjoy singing along with "You're the Best Around". But there is a better collection of Karate Kid Music now. There is a collection of the Scores of all four movies. For the die hard fan of the Karate Kid oriental music, the Score collection (though expensive) is the best to have, however, having both is the full experience since the score doesn't include the popular music.

This is the most complete collection of the hits of a greatly underrated singer/songwriter/producer of the 1970s and 1980s. We remember these songs; we also need to remember the man who recorded them (and who passed on earlier this year). -- janderso, Olean, NY

I bought 'Sweet Life- His Greatest Hits" in December, 2008 and then bought two other cds. The quality of the cds is great. I remember hearing most of these tunes played on the radio in the late 70's & 80's and then sort of forgot about them until I heard "Cool Night" on the radio last fall. I love these songs. He had a fabulous voice and was a great songwriter. Paul Davis died recently, (4-22-08), one day after his 60th birthday, of a heart attack.

This is a good compilation of his hits. I bought it mainly for my old favorite, "Cool Night".

30 years after I first heard it, "Cool Night" still plays in my head regularly. Finally located this album which has "Cool Night" as well as many outstanding songs. "Cool Night," "Sweet Life," and "65 Love Affair" are still timeless, amazing songs that sound as good today as they did back then. I remembered most of the songs on here well, and even enjoyed the country songs (which are not normally my cup of tea). This album is a wonderul, hidden gem from a gentler, kinder era. Listening to it made me FEEL like I was back in the 70's! Paul Davis has enormous talent - he has to be one of the most underrated and overlooked musicians of the era. I would love for him to make a comeback! I would love to hear more from him. This album features great vocals, simple yet profound lyrics, and wonderful music! - sadly, they don't make songs like these anymore. I highly recommend this album!

I treasure this music; for the memories it evokes of Jane Austen's story and the film and for the uplifting and inspiring melodies. All notes rise up and satisfy the ear and the heart.

I was a bit dissappointed that some of the wonderful music from the film was missing, but seeing that the film is 5 hours long, I suppose that it is understandable. This CD is very relaxing and it brings to mind some wonderful scenes from the film. A must have for the diehard fan of the film.

Was very pleased with the music. Couldn't have been better. I do wish Mr. Beveridge's Maggot was included, tho. Some of the in-film music also could have been included, but overall I enjoyed the CD.

I am very pleased with this soundtrack, the music is beautiful. The reason I gave it a 4 is because it is somewhat repetative.

Beautiful soundtrack... this is all of the music that the composer, Carl Davis, created for the movie. There are 24 tracks on this disc and the music is so lovely. It really takes you back into the movie, especially track 14, Pemberley, and track 15, Darcy Returns. Melvyn Tan's performances on the pianoforte are beautiful. It is also a chance to hear more complete selections rather than just bits and pieces used in the movie. Play this in the background when you can't take the time to watch the movie.

Other reviewers commented on the fact that many of the selections from the movie that they wanted to hear once again were not on the soundtrack. The music pieces they mention are what Mr. Davis refers to as source music, anything played or sung by the people in the movie. Much of the source music is available as MP3s if you do your research -- suggestions are the IMDB web site & right here on Amazon. Voi Che Sapete from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (Lizzie sings this at Pemberley with Darcy looking on]; Beethoven's Andante Favori (Georgianna's piece immediately afterward); Haydn's "My Mother Bids Me Bind My Hair" (poor Mary starts to play this at the Netherfield Ball and is fortunately interrupted by Mr. Bennett) -- can all be found on Amazon as MP3 downloads. Unfortunately, you will have to purchase an entire CD to have a copy of Mr. Beveridge's Maggot. Be aware that the selections will not be arranged as they were in the movie, nor performed by the same people, but many of them are worth having for their own sake.

I also recommend getting the book, The Making of Pride and Prejudice, for the lovely chapter devoted to the music.

Christmas music in a magnificent setting. A beautiful way to help celebrate the Christmas Holiday

You won't be disappointed by this CD from Andre Rieu. He brings new life to best-loved Christmas carols and songs while also introducing us to some less-familiar, but very beautiful, Christmas songs.

Personally, this is one of my favorite relaxing Christmas CDs, though some of the songs do have a more up-beat tempo, which is nice too. Really, this CD is what you've come to expect from Andre Rieu-taking well-known songs and causing you to experience them in a whole new way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Christmas DVD . I want to buy more of Andre Rieu.

All of Andre Rieu's music is very enjoyable to listen to.

Sometimes I think the only person who is happy that Public television is financially challenged, other that certain legislators who believe that it is too liberal and the culmination of all that is evil, is Andre Rieu. Now don't get me wrong, this happy Dutch musician who models himself after Johan Straus is not a cruel or vindictive person. At least from what I can tell he's not, but let's face it. If PBS did not have financial woes, Andre Rieu, one of its favorite stars, would not have received the exposure he has, and his sales in the United States would probably be next to nothing. Of course for anyone who has ever seen one of his extravaganzas, we would be missing something enjoyable. He's musically sound and he knows how to entertain, and quiet frankly, though some classical purists may cringe at his name, I don't believe the composers whose music he uses are rolling in their graves because it's become popular once again.

Of all his concerts and CDs, I enjoy THE CHRISTMAS I LOVE the most. The jitterbug version of "Jingle Bells" shows that an old tune can produce new tricks. His arrangement of "The Holy City" (a.k.a. "Jerusalem") is almost as moving as when it is performed with a vocalist. The recording has a number of medleys that include favorites from all over Europe show how Christmas has such an international flair. For me, however, this album provides true variety. Many of the carols are not familiar to Americans, so we hear something different yet also authentic to the holiday season.

I'm surprised that there have not been other Rieu Christmas discs. He's an original musician and a consummate showman, so I'm sure there's more he could do with holiday music, but maybe he knows he has a classic with this collection and it will stand the test of time.

Thomas Hampson has a wonderful lyric baritone voice and I love the music, so why only four stars? Most of the pieces are a little laid back for my taste. (Maybe the fact that I'm a Mario Lanza fan explains that.) Exceptions are Alleluia, O Holy Night, and Ding Dong Merrily On High. The orchestra plays with wit and taste, which is almost a given when they are conducted by Hugh Wolf. If you love Christmas music sung by a lower male voice, then this album is a must. Does anyone know if Erich Kunz's marvelous carols album is available yet on CD? For anyone who likes Thomas Hampson, Erich Kunz should be tried. His voice is similar to Hampson's voice and his affection for the music shines through. Hampson's vocals are clean and well-focused. This, as one reviewer said, is music for other seasons too.

Once in a while we come across a Christmas recording that is out of the usual silly lot to which we are subjected this season. No elevator music here. Actually Thomas Hampson interpretation is probably too much to stomach for those that just want the "feel good and be merry" holiday music. The artistry of Hampson shines, and the Hugh Wolff musical direction is flawless. Their combination brings the greatness of some of our oldest Christmas music reminding us that the inspiration is in faith, in love, in the hope of new beginnings. It is to their honor that they allow us a new look on things that we just took for granted. Be it an almost heart breaking "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" when we suddenly think about those that will never be with us anymore; be it the awesome "Macht hoch die Tur" where even the agnostic in me recalls the days of faith and the meaning of Christmas; or be it the winsome rendering of "In dulci jubilo" that links us with the spirit of Christmas through ages, a tribute to the never ending freshness of this holiday. If there is one Christmas record that one can listen during the rest of the year, this is it.

The voice of Thomas Hampson is really wonderful, it is warm and light and clear. This cd is a good mixture of christmas song, but the interpretation of the german songs are not in the right tempo, especially the "O du fröhliche", it has to be the half of the tempo. "Tochter Zion" and "Macht hoch die Tür" is aswell to fast. The musical interpretation is brilliant.

Wow! This guy is terrific. All the other singers seem to have their own reinterpretations of the Christmas songs. That's OK too, but he sings them straight and with energy and style. You would not believe how many recordings of "O Holy Night" I listened to before I found this one. Joy, joy, joy.

All Shook Up is a lot of fun. The music can't be beat because it's all Elvis and the singing is super. This Broadway cast - all the ladies are great belters and Cheyenne Jackson as Chad has a big range. I can't wait to see the show.

The music in this show is great. They didn't hire some Elvis impersonator to come and do this show. These are Elvis songs that have been reinvented in a musical theater style, and they sound great. That being said, just from listening to this CD you get very little about the actual plot of the musical. After reading the synopsis you can listen and understand what is going on, but just popping this CD in without glancing at the production notes will lead you to musical theater Elvis songs. I really enjoyed the music on this CD. Some of the voices need a little work, but overall my toe was tapping and my head was bopping. Good for new musical fans, as well as musical collectors. Probably not good for Elvis purists. Favorite song: "Teddy Bear/Hound Dog"

The CD is fom SONY and BMG 2005 issue, RCA who released the title song is not mentioned. Also, there seems to be no 33/1/3
12" vinyl record album for this title. The music industry has created something out of nothing. I started enjoying Elvis Presley in October 1957 "Jailhouse Rock", and it still does, but this ALL SHOOK UP seems bogus, without songs by Elvis Presley.

Once I saw that this musical was had a soundtrack cd, I just had to have it!! I saw this play on broadway in NYC and fell in love with it even though I didn't know any Elvis music. This is such a fun soundtrack and keeps you singing and dancing along.

Over the summer I got to experience the Broadway show All Shook Up and it was highly enjoyable. Because critics don't like shows that are based off unoriginal music, they missed the point of All Shook Up. It was a fantastic tribute to one of the greatest singers of all time.

The cast of the show puts every ounce of energy behind the songs and fills them with such zest and pep that it is impossible not to see the charm. Some of the best numbers come when the cast all join in together in such ensemble efforts like "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Can't Help Falling in Love" to produce rousing chorus numbers. The voice talent matches expectations for the songs, as Cheyenne Jackson nails a good mix of Elvis with roustabout charisma in his spotlight songs like "Roustabout" and "C'Mon Everybody."

What the show does a fantastic job of is mixing up the songs, how they are song, and the different voice talent put into each piece. There is a wonderful cross of "Teddy Bear" and "Hound Dog" (words are changed around to make it work), that is fun back and forth song.

The same can be said for "Don't Be Cruel", which is one of the best adaptations of Elvis' songs. It mixes cool, slick, and humor to give another quick duet, back and forth piece to the show.

In short, there are so many fun songs on this CD that you won't be able to stop listening to it for weeks. There is so much charm and energy in each song that you'll feel a little remorse for not seeing it on Broadway (yes, it's run is over), or for not going to go see it again.

So...C'mon everybody and clap your hands right now...
