Peter Frampton

When this album came out, it was an "album"--33 1/3 black vinyl "in the round" and it was unconquerable!!! Nothing has changed. No matter the format, this album is a classic, from 1975 when it was first released, to present day--quality that cannot change. Frampton at his absolute best! Rock at its finest! Peter Frampton was probably the first to pioneer the use of the "Talk Box" which is still in use by top singers. I had the ultimate pleasure to see him in concert in the glory days and he was every bit as fantastic in the flesh as on the vinyl! Quality that never loses it flavor.

This stands the test of time and is truly one if not the best live album ever made. With a mix of the overall genre of Rock music Frampton captures the mood of the seventy's perfectly.
His use of the voice box and the guitar solos is forever captured when he was at his prime with this record.
What can i say, I love it!

All that was sent was Volume 2, which meant I did not get the first side of the album (Baby I Love Your Way, side one, was what my wife wanted). No follow up by seller at all and Amazon just said they were sorry. My first bad experience with Amazon, but it truly stunk -

I recently purchased Frampton Comes Alive cd and it still sounds as good as the day it was released.The music from this era is timless!!!!

The music industry gimmick in this era of measuring the success of an album due to units shipped - and not sales - makes this 1978 soundtrack appear to be a success, as it did hover for a time in the top ten of the album chart; but it was a staple of cut-out bins for years and a major financial blow to the record label, RSO.

The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton are the featured performers, though there are numerous artists in the 83 minutes of music. Out of the three charted singles on the Billboard Hot 100, Got to Get You Into My Life by Earth, Wind & Fire reached the highest at #9, while Oh! Darling by Robin Gibb peaked at #15 and Get Back by Billy Preston limped in at #86.

The highlights with EW&F are actress Sandy Farina providing an elegant interpretation of Strawberry Field Forever and Aerosmith delivering a sizzling cover of Come Together. But the album sinks due to a greater number of muddling performances like Because by Alice Cooper, Fixing a Hole by George Burns and Maxwell's Silver Hammer by Steve Martin. That Frampton's career as a top recording artist was essentially over may be seen as a bonus by his critics.

On paper, an extravaganza of Beatles music over two albums and featuring some of the monsters of the Billboard charts must have looked like a huge winner. But where EW&F clearly showed the correct musical direction, it was a trail that the project failed to take...and ultimately tanked miserably.

I am a Sgt. Pepper child too. I have the fondest and happiest memories of me going lots of time to the movie theatre to see this flick, conning and tricking every adult that i knew into taking me to see it again. I had the triple casette that was ultimately destroyed by the use and father time. Later I spent month after month monitoring the satellite tv programming hoping that they would have to show the movie again, eventually, which they did more than 10 years later at 4 am. Finally, I got hold of this CD in London in 98. I was soo excited and happy. It sounded great although obviously with a dated 70's sound. The album has some great covers, maybe the best covers of Beatles' songs of all time performed by Aerosmith, EWF, and of course the BeeGees. Peter Frampton vocally was not up to the challenge but his guitar work on almost all the songs he played gave them a unique sound. I am terriblely biased as I loved the movie (which is headed for cult status, just wait and see) and the start of it makes me feel like a kid again, my daughter loves the movie too, and I love the soundtrack, but don't be fooled by all the slamming, it is the work of George Martin and some other great producers, by the same guys that made Saturday Night Fever and Grease to name a few.

I liked this album and the movie. It may not be the best movie ever made, nor was this the best album ever made; however being a fan of the artists who worked on the project I'm a fan. 100%. Yes the movie was cheesy I'll give it that, but who cares.

Personally, I got a kick out of Frampton's face when I asked him to sign my copy of the movie!!! (And YES he's still touring and still KICKS MAJOR @$$ on the guitar!!! The hall of fame honor was long over due!)

But hey, what do I know.... : ) Sure there are people bound to disagree, lets just agree to disagree!

If you love musicals this is a must have! This is one of the best musical movies ever made, and I don't give this kind of praise lightly. The Bee Gees sing Beatles songs better than The Beatles themselves (forgive me, even though The Beatles were musical geniuses, it is true). Even my youngest (at four years old) is fascinated by this movie and regularly requests to watch it. George Burns narrates and takes you on a pleasant nostalgic trip back in time. With the great array of singers (The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, Earth Wind and Fire and so many more) you will be singing and dancing along with the whole movie. Then you have the opportunity to try to name all the famous people in the closing song. I bet you can't name them all! Amazing and Highly Recommended. Enjoy this one.

Having seen the movie, and being a Beatle's fan, I can see the animosity of people criticizing both the soundtrack and the film. However, this cover of Beatle's music is no worse than the recent covers done in "Across The Universe". Just remember a cover is a cover. There are some songs that didn't work, but for the most part, the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton did very well. I enjoyed Robin Gibb's cover of "Oh Darling" (which plays the full version on the album, but gets cut in the movie for the scene to work) and George Burns' rendition of "Fixing A Hole" (despite the album's editor editting the final 30 second sequence from the song, the full version is in the movie).

The rest of the album is also outstanding with Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" and Earth, Wind, & Fire's version of "Got To Get You Into My Life". Billy Preston's cover of "Get Back" is also worth it's weight. I recommend this CD set on it's cover value and it's placement in pop culture history.

I was pretty disappointed in the quality of this release. There is too much noise that should have been filtered out in the remastering. I was expecting it to be cleaned up versus the original LP. IMO, not worthy of a deluxe edition.
Having said that, the live performace is top-notch and the extra tracks are nice.

wow great album, they added some songs that were not on the original recording. I'm gonna order another one and keep it sealed.

Do You Feel Like We Do is the greatest single piece of music in the history of all mankind, so for that reason alone I recommend this album. Certainly there will be those of you who will think I am mistaken (I'm not), and that perhaps The Beatles, or Elvis or Mozart can be credited with having the greatest music - but rest assured - it is on this album. The rest of the album is enjoyable as well - but it is as if the Hope Diamond were put on display with other, lesser, more common gems.

Before the release of this landmark double-album, Peter Frampton headlined a summer community festival in Parma, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. After the release, Frampton was the headliner in a music festival inside Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

The former Humble Pie member had four pretty undistinguished solo releases before this January 1976 breakthrough that propelled Frampton to superstar status on the arena tour circuit. But even this multi-platinum monster did not catch fire when it initially reached the record stores, debuting on the charts at a distant 191.

But once it gained momentum, the staying power was incredible; topping the charts at number one for 10 weeks, remaining in Billboard's Top 40 album chart for 55 weeks and staying on the Billboard Top 200 chart for a total of 97 weeks.

Importantly, the success brought a new gimmick to the music industry, with double-album live sets - or a twist, three sides live and one side of studio material - becoming the rage for established acts and artists looking for a big break.

Because of what this meant to Frampton's career and to the music industry, it will remain as important a release to get a better understanding of the marketing of pop culture during this golden era in rock.

Just recently, I've become aware of Universal's "DELUXE EDITION" re-releases of some of pop music's great gems. Case at point, A&M's 1976 phenomenal "Frampton Comes Alive!" Being the owner of all three CD editions...the first one, with 2 discs, completely duplicated the sequence and line-up of the original phonograph album, probably taken from the original 4 analogue tape masters...i.e., 2 albums...4 sides...complete with applause fading in & out between the "LP" side breaks, which can become obnoxious, to the stuffy CD purist. The next edition, the Re-Master for Digital...combined both "records"...all four sides...by the way of "cross-mixing" all four programs together...seamlessly, on one CD disc! But there's one thing that remaster engineers "CAN'T" do very well...and that is to cleanup bad analogue "tape-splices" that were made, back-in-the-day, to compile the songs together over the roaring crowd noise! These "splices" that act as connectivity points for the individual cuts, have no way of "equalizing", if you will, sound levels. If you listen closely to the VERY BEGINNING of the epiconic "Do You Feel Like We Do", a REAL bad hard splice was made over the intoxicated mob noise, that was very audibly apparent, on the record, the 1st CD release & even the 2nd CD Re-Master. NOT SO on this new glorious Re-Mix Edition! When I opened up my copy...I went RIGHT TO that start-up point of "Do You Feel..." and sure enough that horrific SPEED-BUMP had been so smoothly & effortlessly corrected! That short 3 second passageway, went down like a smooth shot of warm Brandy on an cold Arctic day! (And I don't even drink!) So now, it probably sounds the way it ORIGINALLY did, that very day Peter, Bob Mayo, John Siomos & Stan Sheldon, knocked it out, before a mesmerized San Francisco mass of maylaying multitudes. Other cuts like, "Show Me The Way" is cleaned up extensively during the introductory strums of Frampton's guitar, that remained "muddy" over the years on the original mix. As I write...I have the DELUXE CD on my Tascam Pro-CD Player...so there's still SO much more good things to report on...so you'll just have to take your critical ears on a listening journey yourself!

NOW...one item that disappointed me greatly...was the new treatment to the number one ballad "Baby, I Love Your Way." During the Re-Mix process, much less (if that's a word) reverb effect was laid on Siomos cross-stick drum action, as he kept his beat time on the snare-rim. That was sort of a shame. Being a mix-down engineer myself (yeah right, if you hadn't already picked up that "humble" part of my personality), when layering effect for "ballads", it's always customary to add more "grace & warmth" to the drum mix, if you sweeten the snare drum cross-stick action, with some longer-lasting decay (echo) of natural reverb...digital or analogue. In this case, is was drastically lessened...taking away from...in my opinion...the beauty of the percussive rhythm track of "Baby, I Love You Way".

Nevertheless...this Universal Music Company's DELUXE EDITION Re-Mix Release of Peter Frampton's musical Blow-Torch of an album, COMES ALIVE, one more time! (Bonuses include, never-seen-before photos of Peter & the Boys in the underground arena tunnel, lying in wait to hop out on stage...all wearing their iconic mid-70's tight, white Disco-Pants, complete with Street-Sweepin' Bell-Bottoms...!!! Man, Oh Man...! What a visual for them hungry Rock-N-Roll gals, out thar in that audience, that night!)

Wonderful collection for any and all Frampton fans. For those of us who got to experience Peter Framptom in the '70's, this collection will be a nostalgic trip back in time.

...if you're a singles collector. I Can't Stand It No More and I'm In You make this a complete CD. The remastering sounds great, and you get the LP versions, not edits, of Do You Feel Like We Do and Show Me The Way.

Buy "Frampton Comes Alive" most of the songs on this are from that CD anyways...live is much better than studio efforts....

Peter Frampton is just one of many talented musicians of the seventies who's popularity decreased during the big 80's thanks to MTV who saturated the record buying public with Devo like computerized techno-schlock! The art of true musicianship was temporarily lost during that era. This greatest hits collection profiles a fantastic guitarist singer songwriter who reached the peak of rock n roll stardom with "Frampton Comes Alive". Listen to his guitar work on his cover of Stevie Wonder's "Signed Sealed Delivered" which brings one back to the days when one played air guitar to their favorite tunes. My daughter may listen to the "Backstreet Boys", but she also listens to "Peter Frampton". Good music lives on in any era. Buy this cd if you appreciate a fantastic performer.

After a long hiatus from listening to Frampton (like decades), I saw him in concert a couple months ago. The magic was there and it reminded me of just how many great tunes he'd created. He's truly a masterful guitarist. Anyway, it prompted me to update my old vinyl with some CDs and that's when I came across Fingerprints. I am completely blown away by it and I literally get the chills from some of the music. Its that good! Definitely some of the best music I've heard in years and possibly his best work to date. The range of styles and melodies on this album is amazing and really showcases his talent. Buy it! Enjoy! Its something you can listen to over and over. Thanks for bringing more musical joy into my life Peter.

All instrumental and I don't really need another "Jeff Beck album". Peter, please go back to being yourself, I miss you!

Peter Frampton deserves a lot of credit for making this album.. This album got me into Frampton, I wasn't around during his 70's fame, but I saw he made a new album on TV, and when I purchased it, I thought it was awesome,, it doesn't even need any lyrics, the guitar speaks for itself, after this album, I got frampton comes alive as well, and that is great too, but this album is definitely chill, relaxing, blues-rock,, hell theres all type of genres in this one compact album, if anyone is a fan of just good guitar music than this album is great for you! ... "my cup of tea" and "float" are the most relaxing songs ever...This is frampton maturing, and just playing wonderful music that he loves, he doesnt need to show off to anyone, because he's a respectable musician and he clearly made this for other people who appreciate music as well..so Download or buy it!! you will not regret it if you appreciate good music !! Peter Frampton Please make more albums like this!! You Rock !

Peter Frampton needs no introduction - "Frampton Comes Alive" remains one of the top selling double-live albums of all time.

However, "Fingerprints" may be Frampton's best work to date. It showcases what a talented musician he really is. No singing - just music spanning a wide variety of styles.

I've already listened to "Fingerprints" countless times, and am sure you will too.

That being said..I would download Warren Haynes Blooze and Souvenirs de Nos Peres. I think that track with Warren is one of the best example of where the major pentatonic can take you. Amazing and haunting as it should be! Peter has Django's phrasing down and really captures the essence as well as anyone can of that genius. Sorry but for me I don't need another Jeff Beck. This guys got a great voice and can turn a good tale as well. Ask Jeff or Satriani to write a great lyric! There are so many shredders and "prog rockers". None of them could hold a candle to the package that is Peter Frampton and to me he has nothing to prove. Every cut on here is great and well crafted but they are vocal lines played through a rack. Come on Peter write the song and use your whit and great pipes accented with your brilliant guitar.

Why do really great guitarist turn to "the rack". That almost DI sound with Warren is so much better (compare to Warren who uses at most an overdrive pedal into a probably a old Fender Twin). Obviously an old Martin on the Django piece into a mike could not feel any more live and immediate. Peter is better than all that sound fluff in his rack. When you play live alone as he does, the multiple delays and chorus makes the sound fuller but it loses its edge and somehow immediacy. He needs to go to tone rehab and "clean up"(or at least get dirty without the rack!).

So for me these two cuts for 2 bucks.

By the way do see Peter live if you ever have the chance. Great showman and very entertaining not to mention a brilliant guitarist that has devoted his life to mainly that Gibson Les Paul of his. Plays until they throw him out normally. And you still want more.

This is a great package. Two great Framp albums all ready to rock. If you only have Frampton Comes Alive, then there is no choice but to pick this one up. Great songs, great Framp. Love it.

I've been listening to both of these albums since sometime around 1976, skips and all, and they are even better revisted on cd! Theses albums never get old. Frampton is incredible whether it's 1971 or 2008. If you haven't listened to him in awhile you should. He gets better and better every year and like I said, he was incredible in 1971!

The DVD-Audio two disc set of this classic recording was manufactured during the earlier years of the DVD-Audio format. That being said, this production has a few mastering/production flaws. Most noticable is the audio glitch/dropout shortly into the track (I'll Give You) Money. Also noticable are the audio gaps as the tracks change during the bonus video content, the video does not cut as the tracks change but the audio does. This is only on the bonus video content.

The DVD-Audio format has undergone many improvements over the last few years since it's emergence into the consumer market, and while this release is nice (but flawed), I would suggest waiting for an upgraded DVD-A release or picking this up as a remastered audio set.

If you dont mind the flaws on the DVD-A release of this classic album, then by all means this is a worthwhile purchase as the channel separation is fantastic.

Frampton's classic album (now on one disc) contains the same fantastic collection of songs from his double album, including, "Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way," and "Do You Feel Like We Do?". This is the way this album was meant to be heard.

I have owned this for two days, and listened to it 4 times, it gets better and better to me each time through.Great to see Peter continue to stretch and grow through the years, he is unmistakenly a genius at playing the guitar and song writing.I would recommend this cd to anyone who likes Peter Frampton, he is here NOW and he's Back !

I am probably the typical Peter Frampton fan--played the vinyl version of "Frampton Comes Alive" over and over, and then forgot about him. Then, after seeing him recently featured on A&E's "Biography," I remembered how gorgeous his guitar playing is and how hooky his songs are. So I took chance and ordered "Now." All I have to say is, wow! This is the best possible type of CD--maybe it doesn't bowl you over on the first listening (I don't think the little 30-second excerpts you can listen to for free really do the songs justice.) But it'll grow on you, believe me. It's now in my daily rotation.

There's a nice mix here of hard-rock guitar-playing and softer ballads. Go ahead, take a chance. He sounds as good as ever.

It has been nearly 10 years since Peter Frampton's last studio album, and it is unfortunate that we have had to wait so long for it to materialise. Though this `comeback' album is a good effort of the standard we are accustomed to from Peter, it is hardly the `magnum opus' that one might have expected after a decade's virtual silence. The sound of the album is quite basic and stripped-down, being essentially loud electric guitars (or ringing acoustic guitars), bass and drums, with subtle keyboard textures, the band being the same as that featured on Frampton's 1999 `Live in Detroit' concert album - Bob Mayo from the 1976 `Comes alive' album, John Regan (another longstanding Frampton associate), and Chad Cromwell the regular drummer with Mark Knopfler. There is little of the synthesizer overdubbing previously used on albums such as `I'm in you' and Frampton's 1994 studio album; the sound is very much that of the live band, but performing in the studio.

The songs are typical Frampton - mostly not particularly memorable at first hearing, but pleasant enough to grow on you when heard several times. Stylistically the album covers Peter's usual territory of acoustic guitar ballads and heavier R&B influenced rock, and listeners hoping for much innovation or experimentation would be disappointed - this is standard Frampton material, and though it is done well one can't help wondering why it took so long for the record to be completed. For me the most satisfying moments are when Peter departs a little from his usual formula, and performs a powerful version of George Harrison's `While my guitar gently weeps', followed by `Greens', a long instrumental piece reminiscent of some of Jeff Beck's `jazz-rock' work in the mid-70s. On these two tracks the extended guitar solos are somewhat more eloquent than in the rest of the album, and are a reminder of Frampton's past track record as a very tasteful and melodic electric guitar soloist.

For anyone not already familiar with Frampton's work, this would probably not be the best place to start, although for the committed fan it will be an essential purchase. I feel that with its generally simple musical arrangements it is a good complement to the 1994 `Peter Frampton' album (his previous studio album), which is more complex in its arrangements and is possibly a more carefully crafted album. Consequently I recommend that the listener should not buy one without the other, and along with the Detroit live album these studio recordings would give a good representation of where Peter Frampton really is at `Now'.

It should be noted that the German edition of `Now' contains three extra tracks compared with the original American edition, and in Britain it is also cheaper. This extended edition on the Framptone / SPV label, with 14 songs and a total length of just over an hour, is a particularly good bargain, and much better than the 11-track US edition. (All credits and vocals are of course in English.) The SPV version of the Detroit live album is also much longer than the US version.

i bought this cd because i heard his rendition of "while my guitar gently weeps" on the radio. his version of the song is a powerful one. typical of frampton guitar play. melodic that becomes more powerful towards the end of the song. peter does the song justice as i could feel the pain through his guitar play. as for the rest of the songs they are ok, something for noise while you do your homework or pay bills, but nothing that really grabbed me.

I took a listen to this thing at Border's today, thinking, "what the hell." I thought he would sound like a dinosaur, but I was astonished to find myself tapping my foot to the first song. So, I listened some more, liked it and bought it. Now, I'm playing it constantly.
Nice job Peter! I'd never bought one of his albums, but I'm glad I got this one.

I went into this album expecting a pleasant listen, because the few songs I know from Peter Frampton have shown me that he is a pretty good songwriter who just writes nice music. That's exactly what this album is- a nice listen. I didn't hear any wild guitar playing (not that I went in expecting to) but I did hear a listenable collection of nice tunes.

The way Peter Frampton seems to *almost* write ballads, but insists on throwing in *just* the right amount of guitar playing as a way to seemingly trick the listener into thinking he's writing a ballad when in fact it's actually somewhere in between a ballad and a rocker, is probably his trademark sound. That's the thing I always remember about him, anyway.

Another thing- the back of the album says this album was recorded in a castle, and Frampton comments on how freaky that is, and how the music reflects that. Not really. Now, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is an album recorded in a castle that really SOUNDS like it was.

Anyway, this album is just what I expected- a nice listen with nice songs coming from a nice guy. It's nice to hear versions of "Show Me The Way" and "Baby I Love Your Way" that AREN'T from Frampton Comes Alive. In the case of "Show Me The Way", there's a certain empty vibe about it that the live version seemed to fill, and surpass. "Penny For Your Thoughts - (I'll Give You) Money" is a really good, energetic way to end the album, too. The former being a good instrumental, and the final song being a pretty decent rocker. Good music.

This is Peter Frampton's best studio album!!! It was recorded recorded on location at Clearwell Castle in Gloucestershire,England!!! Captured on tape inside the late Ronnie Lane's "Reels On Wheels"!!! This great album is chock full of awesome tracks including the original versions of "Show Me The Way" and Nassau/Baby, I Love Your Way",as well Day's Dawning,One More Time,(I'll Give You)Money,and five more!!! Great remastered sound too!!! Two thumbs up!!! Five stars!!! A+

Yeah, I'll add a vote here too, I was just writing about Frampton era Humble Pie, and noted that the first four Frampton albums were fine music. This one was a disappointment to me at first. I liked the light touch on the first three albums, especially the garage sound of "Something's Happening", and the rather bombastic title and more serious tone here put me off. But after a couple listenings it was apparent that this was his best effort, and a really fine album. It should have been the start of an interesting and musically rewarding career, the maturity of his craft.

And then . . . pink hair and screaming teenies, the live album and appearances in drek like the Sergeant Peppers movie, any crass superstar junk you could imagine. Classic rock and roll ruin, an instant joke among all males. Can you imagine this guy used to crunch and his guitar could scream? Do you feel? Yeah, sick to my stomach. Wow, were the seventies lame until punk saved the day, and Frampton's image unfortunately went right along with white suits and the word "boogie". Unbelievable.

Anyway, if you can't imagine someone with fuzzy pink hair is worth a listen, I can sympathize, but check this out and you'll be rewarded.

My best friend Josie gave me this as a surprise gift and I haven't stopped playing it. Frampton is an excellent guitarist as this cd illustrates. This is a must have for any Frampton fan.

Doesn't this guy ever get old? Here it is, nearly 30 years after his definitive live album, and Frampton still sounds like he actually still enjoys playing his old favorites on stage. Of course there are the inevitable Do You Feel Like We Do, and Baby, I Love Your Way, but what makes this album special is his unique interpretations of his newer songs from the Now CD. Verge of a Thing, and Not Forgotten both sound great, as do the rest of his numbers. Sad to think of Bob Mayo not playing here, but everyone here is a first rate musician. Hopefully we'll get another studio album soon from Peter with all new material; the Now album was his best since... well, I guess I'll just say it; it was perhaps his best ever. Also, am I the only person who would love to hear Frampton live with totally new material? Or maybe a disk featuring tracks with only Frampton's vocals from The Herd & Humble Pie years. (sorry Steve Marriot!)
