REO Speedwagon

if you don't want to buy several of their CD's, this is a great choice. I would have perferred some more of the older stuff.

REO's individual CD's are not too good, so this is a good way to own their music.

Maybe I was a bit fuzzy through the 70's and 80's, but I don't remember too many of these 'greatest hits'. Was really waiting for 'Riding the Storm Out', but got some lame 'live' version that didn't do the original version justice. My suggestion is passing this one by and finding another 'greatest hits' version.

i love this cd. Ive been looking for it everywhere and I finally found it at Amazon. Yea. They sent it to me really quick too.

I cannot help but turn up the radio when I hear "Roll With The Changes" and "Time For Me To Fly". It's too bad they don't write music like this anymore. The song "Riding The Storm Out" without Kevin Cronin is just as good with him singing lead. I am glad I bought this.

"Infidelity" would prove to be REO's most successful album spawning several huge hit singles and sitting on top of the album chart for a multitude of weeks. Although the public seemed to love it, for older REO fans this one was a huge letdown. REO had been toiling away for years in the Midwest (this is actually their 11th album), before this thing broke the dam wide open. "Don't Let Him Go", "Keep On Loving You", "Take It On The Run", and "Tough Guys" were all top 40 hit singles, and pretty much everything else on the record was played on AOR radio. The singles were so overexposed that even if you liked them you got sick of hearing them so much. Of the album cuts "Shakin It Loose" is a cool rocker and would have fit right in on the "Tuna Fish" album, and the final closing power ballad "I Wish You Were There" is decent enough. Overall though I don't this album holds a candle to the best of their earlier works. It remains an all time classic for some people, but I just barley give it 3 stars.

The rest of the album is enjoyable, but the 45's that came out it are great. "I Just Want To Keep On Loving You" is a CLASSIC & worth the price of the album alone! I believe this is the best REO Speedwagon has put out.

Released in early 1981, this album shot REO Speedwagon to the top of the pop music charts. Despite having limited success earlier in their career, this album established REO Speedwagon as one of the top bands of the 1980s.

Blending powerful ballads with excellent rock-and-roll, "Hi Infidelity" has something for any music fan. The disc opens with the hit "Don't Let Him Go", a song which REO has used to open their concerts for years (and they still do today!) Up next is the #1 ballad "Keep On Loving You", which features Kevin Cronin's excellent vocals and piano. Also included on the disc is the top 10 hit "Take it on the Run", "Tough Guys"-complete with an intro. from the Little Rascals, the up-beat "Out of Season", and Bruce Hall's "Someone Tonight".

This album's popularity has remained high for over 25 years, and REO still sounds as good today as they did when this album was released. I recently saw REO in concert, and they can still rock with the best of them.

I give this CD my highest recommendation. Kevin Cronin is superb on lead vocals, and Bruce Hall, Gary Richrath, Alan Gratzer, and Neal Doughty on bass, lead guitar, drums, and keyboards, respectively, give REO a unique, driving sound. Listen to this CD and hear some great rock and roll from one of the supergroups of the 80s (and today).

The compilation is acceptable. I might have picked a slightly different combination of songs, but this is definitely a workable listing. The sound mixing is another story entirely. The person that mixed/mastered this collection managed to completely change the sound. Playing the originals against this - there is absolutely no comparison. Go back to the original mixes.

THE ESSENTIAL REO SPEEDWAGON is the most complete anthology available on this great rock & roll band, proving that there was more to them than their hit ballads would indicate. Besides all the great songs the band cut for Epic, it also features the few good songs from the band's twilight years after guitarist Gary Ricrath quit in 1990. This collection was compiled with the input of singer Kevin Cronin, and thus includes the version of "Son Of A Poor Man" with his vocal, rather than that with Mike Murphy singing. Often, when the artist has a say in compiling a best-of, it can be problematic, as fan favorites are passed over in favor of songs the artist prefers, but such is not the case here. This anthology is consistent from soup to nuts, with both the obvious hits and many great album cuts.

REO was a really good live band in the beginning, who backed it up with 3 excellent records in a row. Around the time "Keep On Lovin'You" hit it big on the charts, It was all over. Going for Pop hits is one thing, but really BAD pop hits is another. Watered down drivel with inane lyics was the new REO. "Can't Fight this Feeling" should be used to torture suspected terrorists!-And the lyrics? Nobody will ever mistake this for Dylan.
So a few good cuts are to be found on disc 1, the rest of it is a painful waste. Too bad- since they started off so strong

As a newcomer to REO Speedwagon this is my first cd but soon it won't be my only one. I absolutely loved every song on this double CD set. My introduction to these guys was on the Styx/REO Arch Allies colaberation and I had to go out and buy this and I absolutely love it. My favorite song is the live version of 157 Riverside Ave. All the other live songs were greatly appreciated too. I loved it from start to finish I am definetly hooked on this band. I really like how they have taken 70's rock and 50's roll to combine a very unique sound. That was very charachteristic of alot of the 70s/80s bands or "The Golden Age Of Music" as I like to call it. This truly is a great collection and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I received this 2CD set in the mail and was horrified at the sound quality of the so called "mastering". I have original un-mastered copies of some REO Speedwagon albums that sound BETTER than this set! I love REO to death and the track listing is good to go, but in all honesty, this compilation falls flat on its face in regards to sound quality. The band seriously needs to find a good remasterer and give the fans what they have been waiting for. I cannot recommend any previous greatest hits releases that even come close. Save your money and wait.

I am a big fan of REO SPEEDWAGON starting back from 1971 all the way to ...well Id say 1990. Cant say Ive enjoyed their last 2 albums; Burning the Bridge(1996) and Find your Own Way Home(2007)...thats neither here nor there because we are taking a trip back in time to 1977...the year of the LIVE album...the year of the speedwagon picking up speed. Kevin's back in the band for a second time and the new songs on COW(1976), while not surprisingly successful, are already brandished with hints of the AOR sound of REO in the 80's. The band has been laboring for 5 or 6 years polishing a solid fast rockabilly act and its evident EVERYWHERE on this album...let the good times roll. Listening to the album, you can almost feel the band on the cusp of fame and fortune. A band this good live deserves some recognition. "157 Riverside Avenue", "Lay Me Down", "Ridin the Storm Out","Keep Pushin", "Golden Country", "Music Man"... GREAT solid songs.Gary Richrath still reigns supreme as a good hard rocking guitarist (remember this is pre VAN HALEN) with "The Flying Turkey Trot" and his awesome guitar solo. This live album payed off for the band and they would score a million sales the following year(1978) with the "TUNA" studio album. The 80's is another story so for now check out the 1977 REO LIVE album; a time when the band didnt have the huge hits or the huge fanbase YET and is dishing up some good ol' rock n roll. Enjoy!

I have been a BIG Reo fan since the mid 70s,and love the early stuff! I dont have time to B-S you with TRASH...WATCH-OUT for sellers who are selling the OLD EPIC release as the 2008 edition. Many of them are! Some think the price is so cheap,that you wont return it! Mail the seller first,and ask if they will make sure it is NOT the old EPIC edition....YOU WANT THE ADVERTISED PRODUCT! Then buy it.

It has been years since I've listened to an R.E.O. album. Recently bought the CD (had the LP since it first came out, but haven't listened to in ages.) This album reminded me of why I liked R.E.O. They were a great concert band - at least back in the 70's. This is R.E.O. in their prime.

I have owned this album since 1977 when I first bought it on 8 track. It's in the same league with other classic 70's live albums such as Frampton Comes Alive, Skynyrds - One More From The Road, The Outlaws - Bring it Back Alive, UFO's Strangers in the Night and Bob Seger's Live Bullet. I love this album but never really liked the CD version because they removed Little Queeenie and Gary's Guitar Solo to fit the record on one disk. The track listing on this 2008 release lists Little Queenie but NOT Gary's Guitar Solo, and lists Golden Country twice. So my question is....Could this be a 100% restoration of the original release complete with Gary's Guitar Solo (with an erroneous track listing) or some other weird assembly of the original (with Little Queenie restored and a "rare bonus track" version of Golden Country added? Is there any remastering? Doubt it for less then 5 dollars. I am going to buy it and see....you cant miss with this one...if you dont own it, and like 70's rock...get it now....it will be a bonus if it is the original

To my ears this is easily REO's best album. Everything that the band had been working towards up to this time came together to create what is really a great hard rocking album. The band finally got a taste of commercial success with this one and the songs "Time For Me To Fly" and "Roll With The Changes" are still classic rock radio staples to this day. I really like every song on this disc. As usual Gary Richrath (guitar) and Neal Doughty (keys) really have some nice moments all through this album. The album also marks the first appearance of bassist / vocalist Bruce Hall who would go on to have a positive influence on REO's music. If you only purchase one REO album this would be my recommendation.

These are good songs ruined by a top forty comercialized polish! It was all downhill musically speaking for this band from here as they gave in to Kevin"schlock"Cronin and sold out bigtime!

Trying to get everything I had in the late seventies through the mid eighties that I used listen to as I cruised around in my 72 AMX and this one is a must. This is a classic for that time period and a must have which goes along very well with Ted Nugent- Ted Nugent, Kansas, Styx, early Journey (Wheel in the Sky), Bon Scott's ACDC, Head East, Sweet, ELO, Pat Travers, Fog Hat, Boston, BOC, and a couple most of you never heard of that are real classics Greame Edge Band's Kick off your Muddy Boots and Moon Martin. All are simply outstanding. Getting back to REO, Gary Richrath had his own sound on the guitar which I would say is the true signature of the bad. Not enough has been said about Neil Droughty and his ability to play the piano and everyone knows what Kevin was good for. That three-some were the nucleus of REO like Dennis Deyoung, Tommy Shaw, and James Young for Styx and Roger Boyd, Mike Summerfield and John Schlitt for Head East all really great bands. If you are looking for bands of the late seventies and early eighties these are some of the best. Let keep putting these and more onto CDs, bring them all back.

I have been looking for this C.D. for years and finally got it new from Amazon last month. I've been playing it ever since. I've been a HUGE fan of REO forever and " Good Trouble" is one of my favorites.I don't understand why it was considered a failure when it made the top-ten on the album chart,sold a couple of million or more copies and had the top-ten hit "Keep The Fire Burnin'." I don't think the band or the fans should have been disapointed!! The songs are extremely catchy and classic REO.I LOVE "Back In My Heart Again" It stayed in my head all day and I think it should have been a single."Sweet Time" is one of my favorite REO ballads and I love the bells on it. The album has great pics of the band as well.I wish REO would go back to this,namely with Gary Richrath,for at least one more album since Gary's great guitar work was such a big part of it all. I'm sooo happy I finally got this C.D.!!!!!

REO followed up the enormous success of "High Infidelity" with this album that although similar, did not relate nearly as will to the record buying public. "Keep The Fire Burnin'" was a top 40 hit, but it did not stay on the charts long and the album sunk like a stone fairly quickly. Personally I think it is quite a bit better than "High Infidelity", but still a step down from "Tuna Fish". Bassist Bruce Hall contributes and sings lead on a good one ""Let's Be Bop" that is kind of a tribute to the band's fans. "I'll Follow You" is another good one with some nice guitar work from Gary Richrath. I also like "Back In My Heart Again", "Stillness Of The Night", and the title track "Good Trouble". Ya know...after listening to this again for the first time in years, this is not a half bad album. I find it interesting that the record buying public ate up the material on "High Infidelity", but pretty much shrugged this one off. For the most part "Trouble" is far from the band's best, but it has quite a few good songs on it.

I'm a big REO fan & this has always been one of my favorite albums of theirs with great sing along songs. Glad to finally get this on CD. Of course it's not quite as good as High Infidelity, but then again, how many albums are?

Although not widely ranked up there with Hi Infedelity its still popish enough to carry listeners through.Laced with over keyboard textures its hard to hear Gary's guitar screeching.Good trouble,the Key,Keep the fire burning are all good tracks.Its obvious they didn't want it to sound like their others but its still has that eighties sound.It was only two years later when this was released.I still remember running down to the record stores when new albums came out.That was a time when it was worth scooting down,not like today unless its Bob Dylan.

When i first heard reo speedwagon was when i got drafted in the army.The song was take it on the run from hi fidelity and was the best song i have heard and it opened my eyes for this kind of music.Next was when i heard reo for the first time in swedish radio it was the song Keep the fire burning from Good Trouble.And i was so happy that day so i took my bicicle and went to the local recordshop and bought it.Songs like Every now and then with amazing guitar by Gary Richrath has inspired me when i started to learn to play music in a band.I tried to played bass and when i tried to write music i was very inspired by songs like the key and sweet time in this album so if you must have one cd with reo i recommend Good Trouble because every songs makes together the best studio album reo speedwagon ever did.

Man, does this take me back to circa 1970. We would go to Mt. Pulaski IL to a combo swimming pool-skating rink to hear live bands. Guess who we saw on more than one occasion. REO with Mr. Luttrell, on vocals, what a good rock and roll band, no mushy ballads and would even close with Sympathy for the Devil. This cd is a link to my midwestern music heritage and therefor a must have.

Not that there is anything wrong with the REO SPeedwagon music from the 80's,it is good pop, it is just not my big cup of tea as it were.

Here in REO's first two LP's(now CD"s), is a much more rock and roll REO, similar to Early E Street Band and Early J. Guiles Band. Sophisticated Lady was my big favorite, but there are many other songs just as good. This is more good memories for me from my High School days, yes I was too young to go clubbing in High School but this education came from my older brother, and I took to it.

So here's the deal, if you like the old roadhouse rock from the early 70's you might really like this set. However, if you are from the MTV generation, you may just hate it.

Too bad I had to purchase REOTWO all over again to get this cd, because it is widley available where I live, not mention I already own it. I don't hear the sound quality improvement on these cd's either. Nonetheless it is GREAT to have REO-1 again. This cd represents REO at their rockin best with everything that came after just so-so. I would imagine a vast majority of REO fans have never even heard REO-1. Well this is their chance.

REO TWO is my favorite REO album and I haven't been able to find the first album on CD until now! These are pretty much the original recordings without much doctoring up, but I am glad I bought it! It is GREAT to hear good ol' Rock 'n' Roll!! If you like older REO recordings this is an AWESOME package!! I would also highly recomend REO REO (the brown and white cow hide looking cover) as another FANTASTIC release.

When I ordered it I thought it would be a cheap 2 for 1 deal. I mainly ordered it to listen to the first album. When I got it I was very impressed with the quality of the package and the liner notes.

Your REO CD collection is not complete without this one.

I got this REO's album last week. It was a really nice surprise since I was not following the band after the
"Building the Bridge" album and haven't learnt about a new release.

I've been a REO follower since late 70s and have every single REO record since the very first one.I must confess that even not all tracks in the FYOWH album are 5 stars in my personal taste of REO, it has some powerful tracks.

Is not fair to judge Kevin Cronin vocals, this guy has my respect to be such a poet and to express all those feelings through an always delightful voice tone that take you inside the lyrics of any song.

REO reached all the highs of its career with the songs and voice of Cronin. And this gentleman can delivers still. I will fired his present hairstyler, however. In some pictures he looks like and old lady. Sorry Kevin.

In the album there are different rithms, not usual on REO songs and that's refreshing.It is not only meat and potatoes rock and roll. Bryan Hitt brought some new flavors on the baseline of songs. I have liked Bruce Hall playing since he entered the band, Neal with simple but beautiful Keyboard layers and the more aggressive guitar playing of Amato is a nice blending.

If you are a REO fan or just want to be touched with a nice and melodic story of love and life, give this album a try.

I started listening to these guys in the late 70's, growing up 45 miles from them in central Illionois, then saw them in concert twice, have "our song" with my wife "Can't Fight This Feeling", and now find this awesome contemporary album from them, with stellar hits "I Needed To Fall", which sounds like REAL 80's REO material, "Another Lifetime", "Everything You Feel" and "Let My Love Find You". All are excellent!! Welcome back, boys! It's really good to hear from you again. Would love to see you in Richmond, VA!

A friend loaned me this and Journeys new cd and I like this one better. I find myself putting this one back in my cd player more often. I watched Reo's performance on Soundstage and thought it was great. I couldn't believe how good they sounded. Dave Amato is a fine guitar player and Kevin Cronin has written a good batch of songs here.

After the previous two studio CD's in the 1990's I thought this band was finished. REO's Find Your Own Way Home is a return to form for the band. No, it is not "Hi Infidelity", but it is a great CD from start to finish. Even without the Live Disc and the Bonus DVD it is still worth the money. The CD starts with "Smilin' in The End" which finds the band rocking harder than they have in years. The singles Find Your Own Way Home and I Needed To Fall (the former a midtempo track and the second a ballad) both hit the top 25 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart. Dangerous Combination (My favorite) and Another Lifetime are both about relationships that were not meant to be. Run Away Baby is a fun track and Let my Love Find You ends the CD on an uplifting and positive note. The only track on the album I skip is Born To Love You that the bass player sings. REO has crafted a set of songs that people can relate to and I think the band will be including many of these tracks in their live set for years to come. How many new tracks will bands like Journey, Styx, or Def Leppard leave in their set list three years from now? My guess, not many. For a great new release by a classic rock band pick up this CD and Loverboys's "Just Getting Started" disc.

REO keeps the hits coming!! They have put out another album with many awesome songs. Kevin Cronin just keeps getting better and better with age! Highly recommended to REO fans!

I guess I only have myself to blame for not doing enough research before getting this but the reason why I went for this and not the more popular remastered "Hits" is because I really wanted "Keep the Fire Burning" which for some reason is not there. I could live with the track selections that do leave out quite a lot of better tracks that are found on the "Hits" package but the poor sound quality is what really gets me. Definitely a misnomer as this is certainly not the best of REO either in track selections or in sound quality.

Although this was released in 1990 in Japan. It was titled "Keep On Loving You". It is long Out of Print there. This is a very good selection from their 20+ year career (at that time). Even after 30 years REO is still together now on tour with Styx and Survivor. Playing the same 'ole tunes night after night. REO has sang Ridin' The Storm Out over 6,000 times since 1973. The song appears on at least 5 of their 30+ disc catalogue. And yes, it is even on this one. Along with classics like Golden Country (Gary Richrath's musical protest to the Veitnam War). Not just the "Hits" it is truly a best of... All song are "Previously Released". I LOVE the cover!

This compilation really did go through ALL of REO Speedwagon's records. It is not just the 1980's through 1995 years here. For someone who is just being introduced to REO you will hear the transformation from a "Country" sounding band in the early 70's, to what we all know and love, the arena rock band. Pick this one up if you're looking for all the favorites, with a touch of their old stuff.

I think "Lost in a Dream" is one of R.E.O.'s most underrated albums and am glad to see they re-released it. Not really a die hard fan, I saw them multiple times in the 70's. Always felt they were a great concert band. "You Get What You Play For" has always been my favorite. Mainly a collection of their early songs done right - live.

This collection is definately worth owning. Add R.E.O Speeedwagon/R.E.O./Two and you have the complete early (and best) years.
