Saosin

Saosin's 2006 debut LP is different from their enormously lauded Translating the Name EP, and that's a good thing.
The songs here are 'poppier' and more 'standard', I suppose, but I thought that was a very fitting direction for the band. Cove's voice is perfect for these songs, and Anthony Green's on here would have felt way out of place (well, that's weird to say anyway, because he wasn't involved in this, so nevermind). I appreciate the fact that the band went in this direction instead of trying to make a 'Translating the Name: LP Version' with a new singer. The band is still very original. A lot of these songs are very good, with only 2 or 3 skippables. My personal favorites are the opener It's Far Better to Learn, It's So Simple, Finding Home, Come Close, Follow and Feel, You're Not Alone, and last but not least, the incredible finale Some Sense of Security.

My friend told me about this band last year, and found it strange that I had never heard of them, being from NB and all. I gave the CD a listen, and instantly fell in love. Best $15 I ever spent. It's been in my car stereo for a month now. Cove's vocal range is impressive, and the instruments are tight and polished. If you like the first song ("It's Far Better To Learn") you'll love the rest of the CD. Highlights (IMO) include "I Never Wanted To" (minus the obnoxious synth at the end) and "Collapse." If you can, go find the bonus track ("Let Go Control"), which is the perfect ending to this CD.

I heard "You're Not Alone" and "Voices" all over the internet and the radio, and immediately fell in love with the band. However, while there were some impressive songs on this album, there weren't enough of them. The album fell short of my expectations by seemingly throwing a handful of good-but-not-great songs in between a few instant hits. Though it may not be an instant classic in my eyes, I suggest purchasing the album anyhow. It's worth the listen. My personal favorites included "It's Far Better to Learn" , "Voices", and "You're Not Alone".

I LOVE THIS BAND, THEY JUST JAM OUT HARDCORE, AND THEIR LYRICS AND GUITAR RIFTS ARE JUST SO AMAZING THANX FOR THE AWESOME AND MUCH LIFTING MUSIC SAOSIN...

The product came in pretty good condition, there was a crack on the case, but it's not the end of the world. I absolutely LOVE this band though! I can't wait to get their other CDs

This CD is really hands down one of the best CDs ever the drummer is amazing i listen to They Perched On Their Stilts, Pointing And Daring Me To Break Custom over and over especially if you have a nice system in your car or truck, it sounds amazing. Now dont get me wrong the new saosin is still good but this is the original singer and he sounds great. highly recommended. If you like double bass pedal buy this but i agree with tacomaboys review go to the website that he suggested smartpunk dot com is the way to go

Saosins Translating the name is simply the greatest cd I own. The 5 songs you hear on this track represent 5 of the finest music your ears will ever hear. The genre is impossible to classify.

All you need to know is, Anthony Green's vocals are awe inspiring, as well are the drums, guitars, and overall production of this 5 song ep. Only downside is you will be CRAVING for more. But Saosin did record quite a few more full length songs/demos with A. Green before switching singers to a point where the band took a slightly different direction, but they owe all their fame to this album right here..

Best way to sum this cd up, a grouping of musicians that could put out music so intense and hard, yet something so embracing as the acoustic. To transcribe something so hard into a lighter feel of an acoustic range, only real talent can walk this line. Without a doubt one of the most important EPs ever recorded. The tracks "they perch on their stilts..." and "lost symphonies" drum lines (as any Saosin fan knows of this cds drumming)... well the only way to put it in words that do it honor is transcendent. Anthony's vocals, both singing and screaming, are superb and for those with an aversion to screaming, it's rather limited.

To put it plainly, if you're trying to decide to purchase this album or their full length. I'd pay the 40 bucks for this one of 5 tracks over the full length of 12 or so songs of average price. The full length is toned down, formulaic, crap fit for the AR label guys hoping to appeal to a wide audience based of the success off of this album.

I just can't get enough of this EP. Think I've listened to it maybe 5000 times (no I'm not exaggerating).

This is music at its very best. All five tracks are masterpieces.

Do yourself a favor and go buy this EP NOW!

The 5 songs on this album will rock your face off - anthony green's vocals are amazing, the drum work by Pat McGrath is superb, shredding guitar work, blah blah blah SO BUY IT NOW!!!.....

BUT not here - these sellers are trying to rip people off! You can buy this album for $8 new at smartpunk (amazon will delete this information if I insert the web location...C..O..M). A definite value for such an amazing cd.

I was somewhat dissapointed because I thought Anthony Green was the vocalist for the first Saosin demo.

This was my last purchase of the Saosin collection. I bought it just so I could say I owned it, I already own the other two. I'll write this as if I had not heard the new album, it would probably be much more enjoyable. Actually, this gets 4 stars just for the fact that the songs they did make on here they improved on [Bury your head I have nothing to say about, honestly I couldn't tell the difference]. But "I want another fast song" and "New Angel" were GREATLY improved. Lost symphonies, I didn't care for. I cringed when Cove tried to be Anthony, it just doesn't work for him. Cove is amazing, as Cove, not Anthony.

Really not a bad little EP IMO. Of course its nothing compared to Translating the Name, but its still rather interesting to hear, it shows that transition point between Translating and the LP. In fact I really like the sound they have on 'I wanna hear another fast song,' and 'new angel.' Those songs are much more raw than their new LP versions and they show that cove does have quite a good voice without all the production. In fact New Angel is one of my favorite Saosin songs, I wish they would have stuck with it. Also the general opinion is that this version of Bury Your Head is much better than the new one, and I would have to agree.

If you want to take look at an unpolished, rebuilding-stage Saosin, this will do fine. Although it may be looked down upon by most fans, you might be surprised, there really is a lot of emotion here. It was what first introduced me to Saosin, I loved it then and I still love it now.

translating the name was a masterpiece but this...
well lets just say bury your head acoustic is the only reason it's good.
The truth is the same songs on this album are on the LP. It has a different vocalist but in my opinion anthony green doesn't shine as well as he did in the first ep or circa survive.
sleepers > I wanna hear another Fast song. Enough said.

i won't lie, i never listen to this cd. if you're a sao fan you've heard all these songs before. the only reason i bought it was to have the better version of 'bury your head' i don't like illegal downloading. i'm also a collector so i had to have it.

It's melodic and the songs play very well. SOmething not really found in hardcore rock that much.

This a great cd, well they are a great band also. This band is the kind of band who takes many differnt kinds of genras an mixes them into there own. They could be called emo screamo and many differnt things. But no matter they rock and there are one of the better bands out thease days. The guitars are amazeing and the drummer really knows what he is doing. This is a must own for any hardcore music fan.

This music flows nicely from track 1. The vocalist is young but that doesnt stop him from having a great voice, no screaming here he hits notes well in high ranges. There is a good heavy sound here between the guitar and drums but the melody's are that of a soft alternative rock album which actually makes for a pretty unique sound. You can tell an albums to your liking when you dont skip a track because your getting bored or its not your taste this is one of those albums i think everyone will dig.

I absoutly love this band, I have been waiting forever for them to finally release this album. I deffently recomend that everyone should buy this album, it rocks and I know you will love it!!!

An amazing LP. one of the best i'v listened to in quite a hwile. all tracks took me away but one thing that put me off was the new version of bury your head. but still a good LP nonetheless.

I have always wondered what happened in the music industry from 2001-2005. Was there some kind of cloning drive going on that made just about every band that received any airplay sound almost identical? Was there some kind of vast underground Screamo conspiracy to make everyone think that this was the new direction of music? These guys sound like Story of the Year (doesn't matter which album), who sounds like any other Screamo band out there. Two to three decent songs on the album. The rest is just filler.
