Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McLachlan is on of my favorite female vocalist, right up there with Loreena McKennitt and Aimee Mann. I bought this CD despite the reviews citing its poor audio quality. It really couldn't be that bad could it, I thought. Well it is that bad. It's unlikeable because of the terrible pitchy highs. Sarah deserved much better than this. Stay away from this one. You're much better off buying her original albums one at a time (if you get them used they are pretty cheap) and assembling your own list of 'best of' tracks by ripping them to your computer (I rip using FLAC file type so there is no loss in quality).

Sarah is awesome. The producers of this CD are terrible. Don't make the same mistake I did. Skip this one.

I have been a Sarah McLachlan fan for many, many years now. Her voice is incredibly soothing and her lyrics are always thought provoking. This album does a fabulous job of bringing together some of her best hits from even her earliest album and placing them alongside her most current releases. It definitely showcases the true Sarah style with a beautiful combination of music that won't disappoint.

This CD is exactly what you would expect from a greatest hits collection. All of her big songs are there, as well as some other gems and if you are new to Sarah this is a great start.

For me she has always been one of those few artists who are much better live than with all that studio polish. For that reason I still have to go with Mirrorball over this collection for the best picture of who she is as an artist.

New (to me), interesting artist with more sophisticated lyrics; but, a style akin to Joan Baez.

Sarah has a unique voice and I was really looking forward to a compilation of her work. Listening to "U Want Me 2" ~ This song is especially close to my heart for it speaks the words I cannot express in my own personal sorrow and loss. It is as though she channels on a spiritual wave of human emotions. Thank you Sarah!

What an amazing voice for peaceful Christmas music. She touches each song with magic and warmth for the season. Loved it!

If it's possible to fall in love with someone only by listening to their voice, then Sarah McLachlan must have legions of lovesick admirers all around the world (I count myself among them). You know how it makes you feel when a woman has exquisitely, impossibly soft, feminine skin? Sarah McLachlan's voice does that to you. As it pulls you closer, you sense the peril of falling in and not coming back, but you're also not sure you want the power to resist.

For me, what makes Sarah stand out from just about any other recording artist is that I love virtually every song on every one of her albums. I first encountered her in Afterglow, and it was a musical epiphany. Here, I thought, is a woman who knows the reality of love -- its heat and its ecstasy and its capacity to redeem, yes, but also its disappointments and conflicts, and especially the ache of yearning. And she not only knows these things in her heart; they've become part of the fabric of her voice, too.

So now about Wintersong. Every artist who records a "Christmas" or "Winter" or "Holiday" album tries to create a fresh approach to the all-too-familiar repertoire of the season. I thought Kim Carnes did it beautifully with "What Child is This" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem". But Wintersong was a revelation beyond all others. Sarah's almost startling versions of the same two songs simply blew me away. And when I got to "The First Noel/Mary Mary", I was transported -- I'd never encountered a Christmas song like it. Sarah took risks here, and the payoff is huge. The drums in the middle of the song are indescribable; you have to hear them for yourself. And Sarah's voice is more than equal to the challenge, effortlessly creating varied rhythms and moods that drive the song's many changes. Wintersong is now my favorite Christmas album -- and it's all by one magical artist. (My eleven-year-old daughter, hearing Sarah for the first time, said, "Daddy, if you ever meet her, tell her I absolutely love her voice.")

If you yearn to "go somewhere else" musically during the holidays, this is the album for you.

I am a fan of Sarah McLachlan. For a Christmas CD, however, this one is a downer. The whole feel of the CD is very understated, too understated for my liking. The title song, "Wintersong," is good, and I really like her interpretation of "Christmas Time is Here." I also like her interpretation of Joni Mitchell's song, "River." However, even though Christmas is mentioned in that song, it seems to me to be too depressing a choice for a Christmas CD. Overall, "Wintersong" is not a bad CD, it's certainly different than most Christmas CD's, but it won't get you in the Christmas spirit.

She always has a way to make any song a classic. I love the title song & her versions of Christmas Time as well as the others. This will definitely be one of my favorite holiday cds for now on. Thanks!

I really like this Christmas album. It is really easy to listen to. It puts me in a peaceful mood. :) Perfect for such a hectic time of year!

Very disappointed in this album, there was not one song on this album that I really liked. Normally, I like Sarah but not this time. The album will go in my file and probably not be used!

Closer, one of the best by Sarah McLachlan so far. Her voice has never sounded better!

A great compilation. The inclusion of her earlier material really shows her growth as an artist. I already had all but the new material,but the new material alone is worth the price of admission. In 20 years I have never been disappointed by a Sarah Mclachlan album. She consistently releases stunningly beautiful high quality music.

Definitely the best works of Sarah thus far. I own the entire Sarah McLachlan catalog, and I must say that unlike most artists, this is worth the purchase for the 2 new songs!!!

There is something about Sarah McLachlan's music that has always made me feel good. If I am ever feeling anxious or depressed, I just put her on and I am instantly feeling better. I have been a huge fan since I was in highschool. Thanks for all the great years of music!!

This was advertised with no box but when the print work and CD cames there was no try card. Price was right however.

The hauntingly beautiful voice of Sarah MacLachlan, along with the beautiful words and melodies make this an A-one CD. The song "Angels" is my favorite, and I listen to it over and over again.

This is a great CD and Sarah is one of my favorite singers. Just recently I discovered Arrica Rose's new album La La Lost and it also blew me away.The poetry of their lyrics and beauty of their voices are unmistakeable.

Sarah MacLachlan was the creator of a decade of sound, and a plethora of influenced musicians. Her sound still echoes in the the music being produced today. She was a great writer of ballads. This album is one that can be so easily listened to. No pretense, no electronic covering. The moments of silence are held as highly as are the moments of sound.

of buying hundreds of dollars worth of Music , Books and Etc , making Amazon what it is , I would expect this to be a Xmass Present to All of Us Regular Customers ... It would have been a Nice Touch , too bad we only think of Profits ... When was the last time a Company gave you a Freebee for making it what it is ? ... I can't Remember ... But , hard times are a comming , we will see If we Can Survive The Crunch ... Good Luck ...

The release is a neat cross-section of a decade of pop culture, with an obvious focus on those who were - or continue to be - the chart toppers.

The one artist with the most remarkable staying power is Bruce Springsteen, who continues to churn out timeless music. Dave Matthews Band, Norah Jones, Coldplay and Backstreet Boys cover a lot of musical turf in the ever-changing entertainment universe.

This is a good collection at a great price that benefits an outstanding cause.

I would not recommend this CD. I love all of her music but this has rap
and a bunch of other songs that have been done over with other artists.
A bit different and I can't say that I would have purchased it if I knew
more about the CD. Save your money for one her other CD's.

I just got this C/D last night for Yule it is amazing; I had put it on my wish list because it has a very rare track that she does Prayer of St. Francis which is absolutely beautiful. I am a big fan of Sarah's and there are not enough words I can say but her. Is she beautiful inside and out, if you get a chance go see this woman in concert she radiates pure light. This C/D is a must have for any Sarah fan, it is incredible. My favorite tracks are, Prayer of St. Francis, Blackbird, Don't Let Go, Angel, Homeless, Unchained Melody, and Silence.

This album is fun, magical, mystical and worth repeating again and again. Sarah can do no wrong, her voice is incredible. You will love this album.

Worth the price to just have the Randy Newman tune from Toy Story 2 'When She Loved Me', and 'Rainbow Connection'...

It's when Mclachlan tries to impress that you feel kind of embarrassed for an artist of her stature, like the awful 'Just Like Me' with Run DMC... at least her collaborations with Cyndi Lauper and Emmylou Harris work...

But just in case you think she's gone all soft and MOR, she tries to resurrect the dance hit 'Silence' to remind you she's still got her kickass sensibility... perhaps arguably so...

Sarah McLachlan's "Rarities, B Sides and Other Stuff Volume 2" is an eclectic mix of songs that didn't make it to the albums, or were included in various soundtracks. I personally bought the album just so I could own Sarah's version of "Blackbird", orginally by the Beatles, which I have loved for a long time now.

The album includes the obligatory remix of "Silence", and a truly bizarre cover of"Unchained Melody".

A decent purchase for any fan, although most completists won't find much new here.

I think every so often an artist "hits it"

Don't think she could ever top this one!

I've read some very well thought out and critical comments for other albums on here that speak of the artists talents, shortcomings, etc. This isn't one of those, mine is all about emotion. Listening to this album is almost a rapturous experience for me. This music, the voice, the lyrics...they reach so very deep into me and stir otherwise sleeping feelings of love, desire, fear, loss and the unique pleasure of merciful solitude.

This is a really great album. I am not a huge fan of Mclachlan's later work but I must say that if you're a female and you don't own this album you better get it! I listen to every song on here. The lyrics are poignant, moving and easily relatable. It's a must have!!

All of her music displays a humanism and an ability to make tangible our varied and fragile emotions. Such a relief from current nihilistic or jaded takes on life. Check out her new album 'World On Fire'. This woman personifies awareness, sensitivity, and compassion.

Your space becomes a cathedral when this artist begins to play her piano, her guitar. The music lights invisible votive candles, twenty at a time.

If you want to listen to a beautiful record from an angel who's connected to a rocking attitude yet sings her confessional lyrics in an unforgettable style, listen to Sarah McLachlan's lilting voice croon and calm your world.

Listen to it quaver for a moment, drawing you in to the lyric. "I won't fear love." she promises in the title track. "Just tell me why nothing is good enough," she asks of a failed relationship in another song.

Sarah was born in Nova Scotia, took classical piano and vocal lessons and fronted a "new wave" band called October Game. She must have impressed the Nettwerk Records maven because they signed her to a solo deal.

Her personal songwriting benefits from the long-time collaboration with producer Pierre Marchand. He places guitar licks where they do the most good and presents a dynamic, yet subtle rhythm section.

We are all the better for it. If there is any way that music can be a balm for the soul--Sarah's music is what it would sound like. It transports you into another level of being if you let it.

Her third record, "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy," is a pure pleasure to hear. Please promise yourself to get a copy of it. She rocks to support the message in her music. She soothes with a sigh.

"Possession," "Good Enough," "Circle," "Hold On," and "Fear" are my favorite songs. Yet the entire album flows so sweetly, so smoothly, your body will create a new flow of endorphins.

Honest, earnest music can do that.

The best music, like the best poetry, is a healing, heavenly experience transmitted to the artistic human who tunes into it. Sarah, thank you for bringing it to us. All we need do it tune in.

My family loves listening to this CD. We have numerous Disney music CD's and we listen to them constantly in the car. I would defintely recommend this to any Disney fan.

The songs on this cd are a bit more "adult" than on the others. I really enjoy, but the kids don't really ask for this one.

The songs on this CD are a little newer and less "classic-ish" than the songs on previous albums in this line, but I still find them to be a good completion to my collection. Again, there is a variety of songs, which is good for car trips and such.

I ordered all 3 of the Disney's greatest cds for our road trip to Disney world and they are all awesome! This one is not as good as the first and second but it rounds out the collection well.

Right from the beginning, this CD will move you. Track 1 "I'll Try" might be the most under-rated or under-appreciated Disney track of all-time. Following this is equally engaging "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story. Other good tracks include light-hearted "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast and o course The Siamese Cat song, which is a classic.

I held off purchasing this CD as I have other Disney CDs with overlapping tracks, and those tracks on this CD I was unaware of didn't interest me. I'm glad I bought this CD though, because I didn't know what I was missing.

I have always loved SM, but this CD did not offer me anything new, with the exception of 'Answer'. This one song makes the CD somewhat redeemable. I like the rest of the CD okay, but it's not one that's going to be in the CD rotation of favorites.

Afterglow is exceptional. Sarah has a beautiful voice and is one of the very best Jazz vocalists. This album is very good and a great pleasure to listen to.

Sarah McLachlan is one of my favorite artists and this album provides more of her signature style. An incredibly beautiful voice, haunting melodies, and emotional lyrics mark this as another wonderful album!

I remember the sound almost a decade ago. The beauty of her voice, her heart-wrenching lyrics. She was the diva at the turn of the century! She is still the model for pop/rock/folk singer-songwriters today. This album is simply stunning.

I could never consider ANYONE who gave this CD less than four stars and a music lover. My musical taste is rather eclectic and includes everything from opera, new age and Celtic to acid rock (except for rap, some cry-in-your-beer country and hip-hop). This CD is a gem to be prized in any collection. Sarah McLachlan has a fantastic voice and the music to accentuate her talents.

This is one of my favorite albums to listen to. Many beautiful songs with the poetic lyrics we have come to expect from MchLachlin. Another CD to check out is Afterglow. Not as well-known or as many hits off of it but a terrific listen.
Sarah has one of the most beautiful, soulful voices of today.

I had known of Sarah McLachlan but never took any notice of her until a friend's funeral in which 'Angel'(studio version) was played.
The next day I sought out McLachlan's CDs and luckily came across 'Mirrorball', discounted to $9.99 at JB Hi-Fi(Australian equivalent of Best Buy).
What stood out immediately was the superb production.
Every instrument came through with clarity and (pardon the inarticulateness)'oomph!'
I found myself listening to music that I'd never thought I'd ever like.
'Building a Mystery',Hold On' and 'Good Enough' is a brilliant opening hat-trick and drew me into the record instantly.
Even the standard(for Sarah) 'I Will Remember You','Adia & 'I Love You' didn't get me to press the fast-forward on my player.
The second half is just a touch superior to the first.
The exhilrating 'The Path of Thorns', the starkness of 'Fear' and the desperate 'Posession' is another sublime three-in-a-row.
The (almost) bubble-gum popness of 'Sweet Surrender' and 'Ice Cream' are pleasant entrees for the final two songs.
This version of 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' is the best I have heard from any of Sarah's other recordings of it.
The smouldering build-up,Sarah's passionate delivery of "If I shed a tear I won't cage it, I won't fear love",the high notes she hits just before Sinclair or Ashby (help me out McLachlan diehards!)launches into an electrifying (blues?) solo which gives even my goosebumps goosebumps.
In a fitting final song, Sarah nails 'Angel' perfectly. Better than the studio version. I can see why it is commonly played at funerals.
Magnificent.
I just want to address a few criticisms of the cd from other reviewers.
Fade outs in-between songs is a tad off putting, but for me it doesn't detract from the recording, but I can understand other points of view.
I like the production but I can understand that people, who have been fans of Sarah longer than me, don't like how some songs sound too produced.
Finally for the reviewer who gave it one star after Sarah drops the f-word in 'Building a Mystery'.
You are a very small,sad little person if you let one word get in your way of enjoying a wonderful recording.Your loss.
This record has found its way back into my CD player(along with '10,000 Days' & ' Black Holes & Revelations') consistantly since April 2007.
I have subsequently bought every Sarah CD & DVD and now (shockingly & humbly) find myself a die hard fan.

Came quickly as things usually do from Amazon. Love the CD. Wanted it for the for the song "Angel". Had searched all over and found it in Amazon. Thank you for everything. Have a Happy New Year.
