The CD was excellent. All great songs. For sure a 4 to 5 star rating!

What more can be said about Scandal? With Patty Smyth's sizzeling vocals and sultry delivery, she is the epitomy of the 80's female vocalist. Every song on every album is golden. I listen to her at least once every day. If only they were still together. 10 stars for any Scandal/Patty Smyth material, no questions asked.

How many Scandal greatest hits CDs can they put out when they only technically released one album? They released one EP and one album and this is the second greatest hits CD. I wished they would have just rereleased the EP as a CD (they did back in the 90's, but you can't find the CD any place). Buy this CD because it contains all the songs off the EP, then buy the Warrior album and you'll have all the Scandal songs.

i have previously purchased the cd scandalous which at the time was the only way to find most of the material from their EP. that cd contains 4out of 5 songs. so it was a good collection. Then i purchased Patty Smyth's greatest hits featuring scandal because i was trying to get the rest of the group's material. while it is also a great cd and contains alot of their material ,it still left you wanted more. Now we have it! This cd is awesome. not only do you get all 5 songs from the EP but 4 never released tracks. I have to agree with the other reviewer, why didn't columbia just release all 9 songs and make a full LP?,and yes it would have been wonderful if they would have just put the rest of the warrior material on this release and completed the scandal collection they are all great. this is a real treasure. I also own The Warrior Cd. NOw all i need to complete my collection of Scandal/Patty Smyth is to purchase her 1987 self-titled solo album, which currently at amazon runs at about $25. i guess that isn't bad considering what a rarity that album is. highly recommend this to anyone who is a scandal fan!!! even if you own other scandal or Patty smyth CDs you will not have these 4 unreleased tracks. it is a must have!!!

Scandal burst onto the scene in 1982 with a 5 song E.P. that quickly put them on the map. This was partly due to their low budget video for the smash single Goodbye to You that featured an amazingly sexy, strong and talented Patty Smyth dancing around & singing her little heart out. MTV played the living heck out of this video. The backing band was great as well. What was cool about Scandal was for the most part they were a guitar based band with a twin guitar attack that made their music not quite as overblown as a lot of similar stuff coming out at the time.

By the time they released their 1st full length album "The Warrior" in 1984, the band had already featured some lineup changes and in fact only Patty Smyth and one of the guitarists from the E.P. appeared on the album. The record label had seen an attempt to turn them into more of an arena rock type act. This is evidenced by the title track single written by Holly Knight & producer Mark Chapman (who had worked with Blondie and Tina Tuner on her Private Dancer album). Some fans of their debut E.P.'s were a little let down by the more bombastic nature (and some might say typical 80's) sound of the album though it did have some really good songs on it. Sure, the chorus of The Warrior is more than a bit silly, but when you've got a singer like Patty Smyth belting out those words, YOU BELIEVE HER!

The band would then splinter apart due to constant label interferance in the form of them wanting to constatnly push Patty Smyth to the forefront of the band much to the upset feelings of her backing band.

She would then go on to release some fairly successful solo albums before settling down in the 90's by marrying John McEnroe(!).

This new compilation is part of VH1's "We Are the 80's" package tour from this past summer that Scandal participated in. Other acts who are part of this collection are Rick Springfield, Eddie Money, Loverboy, Bow Wow Wow, Flock of Seagulls & The Bangles.

What sets the Scandal CD apart though is that this is more of an anthology of sorts rather than just a greatest hits package. This is due to them only having a 5 E.P. and The Warrior album to draw from.

You end up getting all 5 songs from the 1982 E.P., 3 unreleased tracks from those sessions, a B side from 1982 and the 5 songs from The Warrior.

All have been remastered in crystal clear sound.

Now, my one beef is that this CD comes just a hair shy of being 58 minutes long. Why not just put the rest of the Warrior on here and make it a true and complete package? Just think about it, on a single CD you could have had their entire recorded output!

But VH1/Sony saw fit to only include the 4 singles from The Warrior. But to be honest, their strongest stuff was from 1982 anyway. And the fact that you get 3 unreleased tracks from 1982 (which are really strong and I can't understand why they were put on their e.p. to make it a full album) in addition to the B side to Goodbye to You makes this quite a buy in terms of fans seeking rarities.

There was a compilation released in 1998 that featured songs from both Scandal and Patty Smythe's solo career.

But I would recommend this over that one if it's more Scandal you're after. This is much more than just a simple greatest hits package.

Scandal's "The Warrior" is a good solid rock album with amazing vocals by Patty Smyth. It's dark, moody, mystical and edgy with songs about those 80's break-ups which were dramatic and always messy. My favourite tracks are "The Warrior" (how many times did you hear this on the radio in the 80's?), "Less Than Half" and "Hands Tied". The lyrics speak for themselves and I relate to every line. Love is a battlefield and Patty Smyth with Scandal know all about it. Sing it Patti.

You won't believe this group only recorded one and a half albums(Patty Smyth did go on to record two OK solo albums)! The songs are filled with guitar hooks. "All I Want", "Beat of a Heart", "Hands Tied": they're all great. A real gem from the mid-eighties of guitar chord pop-rock. Only 3 tracks from here are on the Patty Smyth greatest hits CD, the other 7 are not.

I must admit that the effort was definitely placed into the production of the album: the eponymous, mantra-charged "The Warrior", [however the music video is nothing short of the over the top 80's chintziness], to the hypnotic "Beat Of a Heart."[sometimes a fool gets lucky and wins...sometimes the innocent pay for an old man's sins...] (Why "Beat Of A Heart" never made it into the Top 40 is still a mystery to me).
"Hands Tied", another strong performance by Smythe et. al. was another hit that just missed the Top 40, but still deserves a nod of attention for its lyrics.
But there's an overall subdued malaise sensed on this album, sort of like the record big-wigs demanding that Scandal produce a quick succession to their debut "Scandal" album. Too bad that interference from the higher ups at the record label contributed to Scandal's demise, because Scandal was definitely a band that could've produced many more albums to follow. Let's just say that "The Warrior" doesn't give Scandal their defining moment in rock history, but it certainly associates the gutsiness and daring lyrics that gives Scandal their good name. "The Warrior" is definitely worth having in your collection.

Scandal's impact on 80's hard guitar rock has registered as a brief blip. True enough, but Warrior, the full-length release they spawned, deserves its tribute nearly twenty years after its debut. I mean, it's got that archetypal 80's rock sound, and that's what I grew up on.

The big hit from this album is of course, "The Warrior", co-written by none other than Holly Knight. A searing hard-rock, early Bryan Adams-style guitar opens this single, whose memorable chorus goes "Shooting at the walls of heartache/Bang bang, I am the warrior". Smyth is really the Amazon here in this song equating capturing someone's love to hunting. Bit unromantic, really, but then again, Smyth does have a bit of sensuous rough in her, doesn't she?

The other single, "Beat Of A Heart" is more laid back rock set by the bass and drums. Producer Mike Chapman and Holly Knight did the words and music for "Hands Tied" whose rhythm section has that steady pulsing beat reminiscent of "Every Breath You take" or "Missing You". Another "seeing an ex with another girl" type song, Smyth's (or rather the narrato's toughness reveals deep down more tender vibes: "Just remember each time you squeeze her hand, you crush my heart." She tells him further that "She may be one good reason to leave [me]/But I'm a hundred reasons to stay."

"Less Than Half" is standard 80's rock-ballad, of a couple the night after, with the tensions described vividly: "We move in circles/with our eyes on the door/saying so little/thinking much more." Yet the woman here decides to stick with the rotter: "But everything you've ever said was a lie/so pull me closer to your heart that's no good."

The cover of Journey's "Only The Young" is a straight ahead one, but it shows that Patty Smyth had as much oomph as Steve Perry in this song, and I say this when comparing her version with her solo single "Never Enough." A standout cut here, and as I was apprised of this by Eric Andrews, another bigup for him.

"All I Want" has marching steady guitar riffs and has Smyth smartly telling someone seeking thrills from the street, to stand out alone, that "But now and then you have to see/that it's only you, it's only me."

The lack of communication in "Talk To Me" exposes Smyth's vulnerable side, as she pleads with her dear one to speak to her, saying "Don't you know baby they're trying to break us up?"

"Say What You Will" is another somber breakup rock ballad, but the pace picks up with "Tonight" and "Maybe We Went Too Far", which are mid-paced closers.

Produced by Mike Chapman, best known for bringing out the heart of glass in Blondie, so to speak, and who also played a part in Tina Turner's Private Dancer, Scandal was a probing ground for Smyth until her criminally out-of-print solo album, Never Enough. Scandal's gifted in having a consistent sound which makes up for the lack of other rockers that have the same punch as "The Warrior" or some that are lyrically unmemorable. The only scandal here is that Smyth and company have been forgotten twenty years later.

This title is nothing but a reissue of We Are the '80s, except you get really crappy packaging, and no printed liner notes.

Just a note to previous reviewer,"pac-dan", while this collection does fall one track short of entire EP, there is a new Scandal CD put out by VH-1 and it does feature all 5 tracks from original EP plus 4 unreleased tracks from that same EP. hope this is helpful to you. highly recommend this purchase to you as a fan of scandal.

Well, they fell short one track of finally releasing all five songs from the original Scandal EP on CD. But alas, they've left off "Win Some Lose Some," so all true Scandal fans are still forced to hold onto that old vinyl 12"...

Patty Smyth's powerful voice was the engine driving Scandal's locomotive. Her strong voice carries all of these songs very well; and the music is pretty good too. She's beautiful and sounds as sultry as her looks. Her voice reminds me of the smart, strong, self-confident ladies I'd prefer to meet.

This cd is a stylish blend of pop and r'n'b. Number 1 in the australian charts for 3 weeks in a row and the highest selling australian single in 2001. This really is a fantastic song, made by a fantastic group.

I spent 6 months down under this year and I fell in love with this song. It is the best song..it is catchy and up beat and you will find yourself singing it out of the blue. You will not be disappointed. Me Myself and I is a smash hit...I just wish the US radio stations would play it.

Scandal'us follows in the footesteps of American's 'Eden's Crush', New Zealands 'True Bliss', UK's 'Hear'Say' and the original Oz Popstars 'Bardot'. Scandal'us have a more rock pop influence in their songs which have that American edge. Their first single 'Me Myself & I' sounds like Vitamin C's 'Itch', but abit more stonger. The single has spent 3 weeks at no.1 in their native country but is looking ot be released in Europe and UK next May. I'll place my bets for a top 20 hit.
