Scars On Broadway

As we all know, SOAD broke up a couple years ago due to internal tensions within the band. Many fans and, most likely Serj Tankian himself, felt that Daron Malakian was taking too much control over the band. On the Mesmerize/hypnotize records Daron sang quite a bit more than he had before; it didn't bother me and it sure as hell doesn't bother me now.
After listening to this album it's crystal clear who the genius behind SOAD was. Although Serj delivered wonderful vocals, it appears that Daron has the incredible sense of melody and songwriting that made SOAD so great. This album is less metal and more in your face hard rock.
Unlike the choppy sound on SOAD records, Scars On Broadway brings a much more streamlined melodic sound to the table. The songs are extremely catchy; there isn't a single track that I don't like, and it flows together as an album very well.
I was pretty dissapointed with Serj Tankian's solo record because he tried to make a record that sounded exactly like SOAD, but it didn't work; the guitar work was flat and uninspiring and the melody was almost completely gone.
Scars on Broadway is just Daron writing what he wants to and doing an incredible job. Buy this album now!

this album is just great, Daron Malakian alone. Although he needs Serj, Daron does his best in the vocals and reminds us of some great elements System of a Down used in their songs. Scars is a different take on rock music, and I think its a good step for Daron and John.

About 1/3 of the tracks are good and really rock out. Good stuff!

Unfortunately, the remaining 2/3rds of the tracks are throwaway songs.

It's a good, honest record that ROCKS! Much like System of a Down records, you would either love it or hate - no middle ground. At times it does sound like SYstem because it has the same rhythm section as SOAD, but otherwise, it's really nice and refreshing. Buy it and play LOUD!

This album is every bit as good as the albums of System of a Down. Now I can see where SOAD's best songs came from. It's the best music I've heard in a long time, at least since SOAD broke up!

TO PUT IT STRAIGHT-IT SUCKS.THE SONGS ARE ABOUT AS SIMPLE AS A THREE YEAR OLDS BARNEY CD BUT WITH LESS TALENTED WRITING.DARON'S VOCALS ARE NASALLY ANNOYING AND THE LYRICS GRADE SCHOOL REPETITIOUS. I AM ORDINARILY A RATHER DIVERSE LISTENER, BUT THIS CD HOLDS NOTHING FOR ME TO ENJOY.ALSO, I AM A HUGE SOAD FAN SO I HAD TO GET THIS CD WHEN I HEARD OF IT. WHAT A MISTAKE.
