Scorpions

Many have complained that this CD is not "complete" enough to represent this band. I don't care. It clocks in at 79:55 and all the songs save one are a great listen if you just want straightforward guitar riff rock.

The ballad "Wind of Change" (track 11) is the only song that I don't like - although it apparently was a big hit. It is just too much like all the crappy big hair 80's bands ballads that I never did like. There are a few other ballads on this CD (tracks 6, 8, 12) but they seem to have a little more bite (or should I say sting) to them and are OK.

The two new songs (tracks 17, 18) are fantastic. TMSAISTI.

I've been a big fan of the Scorps since I first heard my local radio station play 'The Zoo' circa 1982 or so, and after Blackout hit the stores, I bought it and I've been hooked ever since. Course, I had a significant dry spell starting around 1992, but about a year ago, I was surfing around the 'net and came across one of their earlier 'Greatest Hits' packages, and fell in love with them all over again.

The boys from Germany are BACK! With this collection we get a great selection of their previous hits, and they bless us with two NEW tracks as well! Talk about awesome, they're even GOOD ones, too. Not like some Greatest Hits packages that include one or two so-so to downright LAME new songs (Van Halen, are you listening??). I was pleasantly surprised that the new tunes were instantly likeable upon first listen.

Fans of 80's hard driving metal--at least the GOOD stuff, aka AC/DC, Def Leppard, Van Halen and other bands in the same vein, rejoice...this is a must-have for the Scorpion fan in all of us. Although I feel as I must pimp the fact that if you are a serious Scorpion fan, you probably ALREADY own most (if not all) of their previous CD's and therefore, you own all of the songs on this collection--minus the 2 new tracks, so I would then encourage you to purchase the 2 new songs and go from there.

The Scorpions are definitely one of the greatest and most successful rock bands to emerge out of Germany, and they prove it to you 18 times of on this collection "Bad For Good: The Very Best of Scorpions". Now as you may realize, this is not an absolutely perfect compilation. There is, after all, the three-disc "Box of Scorpions" that goes for around 35 bucks or so. But hey, if you're planning on spending that much money, it might as well be on the original albums, right? Anyway...
This compilation has everything, packing a big, German-styled melodic-metal punch that delivers the goods. From the powerhouse rockers of "Blackout", "No One Like You", "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and "Big City Nights", to the beautiful ballads of "Send Me An Angel", "Wind of Change" or "Still Loving You", and the slower, more progressive tracks like "Loving You Sunday Morning" and "The Zoo" this album has plenty of greats.
In addition, it comes with two new songs, the balladic "Bad For Good" and the talk-box guitar riff driven "Cause I Love You". Plus, the album comes complete with great linter notes, photos of the band, and pictures of their ever-ridiculous album covers! So if you wanna get into the Scorpions, this is a great place to start. I forgot how much I like their stuff. Even my two year old daughter loves it.

This is not a bad alblum, but I think that there are far better Scorpion songs that the could have included on this CD.

...gotta love it. Finally going through and getting all my old 80's albums and cassettes on CD.

I still have the original vinyl, and enjoy listening to that most, via an Ion Turntable, and ripping to MP3. "Love At First Sting" was very much a big part of the 80's soundtrack, right up there with the best of 80's heavy metal, hard rock and pop music.

How often do you see a German hard rock band produce a top 10 album in the states? This is it.

You gotta give it up to Klaus and the Scorps, this album and "Blackout" are 80's heavy metal/hard rock masterpieces.

Love At First Sting has at least six singles that all received, and still receive, national radio airplay. I am not suggesting that is what defines great music, but certainly shows that it's an album that shouldn't be underrated or scoffed at, in terms of rock history.

Love at First Sting is if not the best...one of the top two albums the 'Scorps released. It still rocks 24 years later and unlike many bands/albums of my head-banging past, I still enjoy listening to these cuts. Even now I occasionally break out the axe and jam along with these tunes....they never get old....unlike me. ;-)

I bought this album when it was all the rage and the front cover photograph was the big controversy. It rocked then and it still rocks now. I used to love to put this on and crank it as I was getting ready for a big Saturday night (big hair and lip gloss days) - it always set the right mood. It still does. Now what did I do with my lip gloss?...

Last solid hit by the Scorpions in 1984 following three successes with 'Lovedrive', 'Animal Magnetism', and 'Blackout.' This album is just solid German hard rock from the 1980s from one of the best bands in that genre along with Def Leppard. Every song on this album is just a classic hit thanks to brilliant musicianship and the outstanding lead guitar work by Mathias Jabbs: simply one of the most underrated lead guitarists from that period who is just as impressive as Randy Rhoads in his style. Also, don't forget to get out your lighters and raise your hands as Scorpions is pretty much the model hard rock band for your power ballad with the hit 'Still Loving You.' Very well thought out lyrically and musically, again, Mathias Jabbs just delivers an excellent solo. You can't go wrong with this album or any album by Scorpions preceding this album. This album was really their last good album.

I recently purchased this album because I have seen the No One Like You video (both versions) a lot on VH1 Classic lately. The only other Scorpions albums I had prior were Humanity and Moment of Glory, and I'm of course familar with their other big hits.

Well I was pleasantly surprised by Blackout! I "discovered" the gem that is Arizona! It is very catchy (which I like) and seems like it should have been a "hit"!

No One Like You of course rocks, everyone's heard it. I really enjoyed this album, its thoroughly and consistantly good. Very METAL! So after that I purchased Love at First Sting. I thought I would love that album as well, thinking it would be a progression from Blackout but I'm disappointed in that one! I won't get into that review here but I have to say Love at First Sting makes Blackout sound that much BETTER!

Arguably the best hard rock album of all time. This album rocks from start to finish with hits like the title track, No One Like You, Dynamite, Arizona, China White and Can't Live Without You.

I remember being a child in the 80's when everybody was flying high and this was one the soundtracks to everyone having a good time. Always a great album to play to get in a good mood. An absolute party album.

I like this album so much that I almost got the Blackout guy tatooed on my arm (Thank God I didn't).

With their 1982 release, Blackout, Scorpions finally broke through the U.S. market. Their previous two albums, Lovedrive and Animal Magnetism respectively, showed the band adapting a more commercial sound without abandoning their metal roots. Those albums would also introduce longtime lead guitarist Matthias Jabs to the band, whose melodic style was a sharp contrast to the wild kamikaze playing of their previous lead guitarist, the excellent Uli Jon Roth. Rather than be a band that seemed to be going in two different directions, Scorpions were now a more focused band and this would come to fruition on Blackout. "No One Like You" would become their first U.S. hit single and would become one of their most enduring songs. Like their future hit "Rock You Like a Hurricane", the track contains a soft spoken verse that builds in momentum before hitting its loud and memorable chorus. Whether it's heavy songs carried by wicked riffs such as "Dynamite" and the title track, an anthem like "Can't Live Without You", or catchy melodic songs like "You Give Me All I Need" or "Arizona", the band pull it off extremely well. Not to be outdone is "When the Smoke is Going Down", another in a long line of great power ballads that the band has done well since their beginnings. Other great tracks include the short and intense "Now!" and the dramatic "China White." All told, this is one of the great melodic metal albums of the `80s. And their next album, Love at First Sting, would be even better. Highly recommended.

Blackout is seen by many as the point where the Scorpions became what they'd be known as throughout the 80's. Basically pandering power ballad lightweights. The again with the kind of sales figures they were racking up it's unlikely the band cared, they'd paid their dues with albums like Virgin Killer and Taken By Force and documented their rise on Tokyo Tapes.

Here we see the band roar out of the blocks with the title track, a metal tour de force with a line of humou running through it. Top stuff. But proceedings take a shift with the next three tracks, Can't Live Without You/No One Like You/You Give Me What I Need and this is sort of the blueprint for so much that went wrong with the band. Individually not bad songs, actually hits in some territories, but stacked up after one another it certainly drains the energy away.

The rockers that come later do restore some order but aren't exactly awesome. But we do get an example of the famously bad Scorpions song title schtick with the albums closer When the Smoke is Going Down. But fans have loved them for such silliness for years and I can easily forgive them.

Rock journos lauded this album as a link between the metal cred 1970's and the more generic hard rock juggernaut of the bands 80's and 90's output. That's as may be, but I can't help but feel a little let down by this album. Some great songs but for some reason it rarely hits my stereo, my vote going to Virgin Killer for that less commercial kill factor.

The Scorpions stay true to their roots, I admire the Scorpions artistic courage. These tracks are full of power, passion and meaning - everything I love about music and unfortunately something that has been lost in popular music of today. Hats off to the Scorpions for giving us music lovers some new music to listen to thats "worth listening to"! Humanity Hour 1 is an album I will NEVER get tired of listening to. BRING US MORE SCORPIONS TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.....................

All of the songs on this CD are awesome! Absolutely no filler. Don't hesitate to buy this CD. You definitely will not be disappointed.

Finally! A group from my youth has the guts to just do their thing and release the music they became famous for. No big changes here. No need to "fit in" with whatever the latest musical fad is. You wont find any "screamo" or "hybrid hip hop" here. Its Scorpions through and through and I listen to this CD almost daily. The entire album is great and one that I can sit through without getting impatient and flipping to a song I want to hear more.

I think 80s metal fans around the world are starving to hear all their favorite bands playing music in the style that made them all the metal gods we saw them as. The Scorps deliver with Humanity Hour 1.

Its all solid classic Scorpions and worth every penny. Keep rockin fellas!

Ahhh, another amazing, and yes sublime, work of art from Scorpions. Awesome visceral, driving guitars, lucid rhythm and of course divinely inspired vocals...
Buy it and a copy for anyone you know needing dark-and-light inspiration. Humanity: Hour 1 delivers timeless hard rock that is nevertheless immediately relevant to today's younguns. Also note the "message" of the album, akin to German-born Eckhart Tolle's spiritual teachings. Tolle, like Scorpions, says, "Humanity: evolve or die!"

This CD ROCKS! I've been a Scorpions fan since the 1970's, and believe me, these guys STILL know how to rock! Kick-butt drums, vocals, lyrics, guitars-a perfect blend of everything. If you don't get this CD, you're missing out on some AWESOME music!!

What an amazing recording! This disc took me the longest to find of all of the Scorpions discs, which is amazing, since I believe it is their best studio album. I could argue about how good Lovedrive is, but that was Michael Schenker. Everything aside, Uli Jon Roth hit full stride on this album and then walked away from Scorpions to front his own band Electric Sun, which had at least 3 releases that I know of. Honestly, this disc has stupendous songs and music wizardry. Roth makes his strat talk and at this point had to of been one of the best guiatrists in the world. Rock solid songs on this release include Steamrock Fever, the Sails of Charon and He's a Woman - She's a Man. Those 3 songs rock and I've heard guitarists try to mimic and fail almost everytime. Other than the hard side there are also ballads and slower songs like Born to Touch Your Feelings and We'll Burn the Sky. On a scale of 1-10 I would give this disc a solid 10. My least favorite song is Suspender Love, but it is a good song in its own way. Whether you like it hard, slow or multifaceted [the Riot of Your Time], Taken By Force will take you there. Klaus Meine, Herman Rarebell and the rest of Scorpions, particularly Uli Jon Roth, lead an assualt on your senses and will leave you stunned. If you're my age you will probably wonder why more stations didn't play this in the day and I would wager if you heard it and knew who it was YOU BOUGHT IT!!! That is, unless you couldn't find it. Don't waste $10 on just anything, get something you will cherish the rest of your life. I like it, I like it a lot!!!

I am a huge fan of Uli-era scorpions and this album has all my favorites. The best track is sails of charon, and we'll burn the sky. Must listen!

I've loved this album for 30 years, and now that it's re-mastered with two bonus tracks, it's just the cream of the original first 5 studio albums! It sounds better than ever! I would have preferred the sequence of the tracks to have been originally rearranged, but that's no matter. Turn it up loud; read the lyrics! Highly recommended! I wonder why they did away with the original cover art on this one? And, what is the full/long version of Sails of Charon? It's 4.24 here. Is there an 'extended mix'? *lol*

Truly one of their best works, with the early crew of Uli Roth leading the FORCE.

The album has very good tunes.The Riot of your time has a very enjoyable blend of guitar sounds. Overal it is one of my favourite Scorpions albums from their earlier years.

a classic Scorpions album with the bonus addition of Rudalphs Fantabulous guitar brother Mike. A good extra guitar to replace Uli. This album is a must have for scorp fans.

I agree with the reviewers that give this 5 stars. The thing I really like about the CD/album is that it is down to earth hard rock. If you are a "Rock Me Like A Hurricane" fan, this CD is not for you. There is not one bad song on this one. I love "Is There Anybody There?" As a matter of fact, all the songs kick. Yes, Holiday is a slower song but it has that classic Klaus Meine whaling that is the trademark of the Scorps! Check out Tokyo Tapes, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, In Trance, Virgin Killer, and Hot & Heavy. These are real Scorpion rock albums. There are not for the light of heart "Pop" rocker. They are for the true Head Banger!!!!

There is a reason hair-metal came to be and this one of the main ones. It's both a blessing and a curse. This album and it's immediate follow-ups were so good that it couldn't be stopped. Other bands liked it and began to imitate it, soon it became mainstream and every one was doing it...just not as well.

The main difference between this and-hair metal is that this was the source. Scorpions created great songs with fast guitars, ripping solos, good arrangements and great production. By the time Poison, Warrant, Ratt and other posers came along they neutered and formulised it. Gone was the edge and originality. Unfortunately, the Scorpions, too, sold out and went commercial around Love at First Sting and, well, too bad. At least we have this.

There is not one clunker on the album. The sequencing is great and the songs are all different. Another Piece of Meat and Can't Get Enough are balls-out rockers. Lovin' You Sunday Morning and Lovedrive are also pretty heavy and their original power ballads Always Somewhere and Holiday created the formula that so many other bands made careers of ripping off.

I'll always have an appreciation for the heavy bands of the late 70s and the early (pre-84) 80s. They did it right and it's a shame that by the time metal became mainstream the great ones had to sell out or become irrelevant. The other worthwhile albums by Scorpions are Animal Magnetism and Blackout. Great, but in a different vein is Tokyo Tapes.

Scorpions take a giant step forward on this album. Some sources say brilliant, yet eclectic guitarist Uli Jon Roth was already on his way out due to "creative differences", others say the band released him following "Taken By Force". Whatever the case, Scorpions hired relative unknown prodigy Mattias Jabs to take over lead guitar duties...that is, until Scorpions also welcomed back Rudolf Schenker's little brother Michael. Jabs was fired in the middle of recording, but was eventually rehired when Michael eventually cratered. Bringing Michael Schenker onboard was simultaneously a stroke of genius and idiocy by the band. He was a musical genius, but his ousting from UK-based melodic metal band UFO due to substance abuse was well- documented. It was thought Rudolf could keep him in check, but unfortunately, Michael is one of those musical geniuses who periodically, inexplicably, self-destruct. Alas, the lineup that all Scorpions fans had waited years to see was short-lived. Still, his contributions to the album are profound. Despite only getting writing and playing credits on three songs, "Another Piece Of Meat", "Lovedrive", and the groove-laden "Coast To Coast", the playing is brilliant and all three songs remain fan favorites. His impact on the album can not be understated, and most fans feel that having Michael Schenker in the band, even for a short while, was the creative influence that put the German quintet on the road to superstardom. Mattias Jabs, finally a permanent part of the group, makes his presence known on several gems, including the reggae-influenced "Is There Anybody There?" and Scorpions first real power-ballad, "Always Somewhere". Is this their best overall work? Maybe, but I would certainly argue that a some of their later releases, namely `Crazy World', `Savage Amusement', and `Love At First Sting" rank right up there as well.

In this case I have to agree with reviewer William Edwards, who made a point of mentioning the rythym guitar work of Rudolf Schenker. Rudolf brings his axe to the forefront in this, and all future Scorpions releases. It's tough to claim that rythym guitar playing can be called "intricate", but his multi-layered yet complementary layers add a texture and richness that is uniquely Scorpions. If you don't yet own a Scorpions album, this is a great place to start.

When this album came out, most people were floored.

8) "The Zoo" - This is the first Scorpion's song that I ever heard. Of course, it was on the radio that I heard it. I told a friend of mine about the song (He had just moved back from Germany) and he said that the Scorpions rock and he had been listening to them in Germany for years. He then turned me on to songs like "Speedys Coming", "He's a woman, She's a Man", "Backstage Queen", "Pictured Life", "In Trance", "Hell Cat", "Dark Lady", "The Sails Of Charon", "Virgin Killer", "Robot Man", and "Steamrock Fever". If you get a chance to buy these songs, do, definitely do. You won't regret it.

9) "Animal Magnetism" - The guitar at the beginning of this song, draws you in, for lack of a better word, like a magnet. Then Klaus extends his vocals along with the incessant drumming and before you know it, you are there, in a climatic transe!

A very interesting album from the Scorps. . .The cover was polarizing enough, stretching the boundaries of 1980's good taste with its' exotic, animalistic, sexually provocative imagery, not to mention the bizarre inner sleeve photo(for those of you who have an original LP pressing).

Although song lyrics and structure clearly suggests the Scorps are trying to ascend the same sexually charged thematic heights reached on Lovedrive, this album in comparison tends to fall short.

My major complaint about this album has always been the production. Klaus Meine's vocals seem tinny and buried in each song. Perhaps Meine was already experiencing some major problems with his voice with the final mix adjusted to compensate for it? "Make it Real" has lead guitar buried at the center of the mix. Whose idea was that? It seems only to achieved giving the mix a mushy quality, which can also be said of the bass sound in many songs.

Secondly, a certain little brother's writing, and specifically solo work, are missing here and leave a demonstrable void when compared to "Lovedrive". It is interesting to consider what might have been were Michael still on board as writing is so similar on each album.

Despite these problems, the album does manage to come to its' feet and put up a good fight. Tunes such as "Don't Make No Promises your Body Can't Keep", (a rare writing credit to Matthias Jabs), "The Zoo", "make it Real" and "Only a Man" keep the swaggering sexuality moving forward. Then there is my personal favorite, "Falling in Love", whose simple guitar line understates a very straightforward theme every young rocker can relate to: lust. It's another example of the Scorp's ability to meld clever lyrics with a sharp rhythmic hook at just the right moment.

The Scorps toyed with themes of misogyny/objectification of women in their lyrics, and pointedly displayed them in their album artwork. I think this album is arguably the zenith of that sexual energy, and despite some obvious production flaws, shows this band in a very interesting period of their career: standing on their own in the lineup that would lead to world wide fame. Highly Recommended despite my technical criticisms. 3.5 stars.

Maybe the Scorps best. Falling in Love and Make it Real are worth buying the CD.

Another great early Scorpions album. This album opens with arguably the best Scorpions song ever recorded in 'Speedy's Coming' and closes with hypnotic 'Fly to the Rainbow'.

If you are a fan of the band you probably already owned this album on record or cassette tape growing up. It is definately worth the price to purchase on CD as the band sounds even cleaner than they already did on vinyl.

When People think Scorpions they think "Rock You Like A Hurricane", they think "No One Like You", they think that german band that helped make the Berlin Wall collapse. They think of the MTV party rock they made in the 80s. Well forget about all of that and lets go back to 1974.

Most people don't even realize that Scorpions existed long before the 1980s, way before MTV and all of that hair metal garbage they have been oh so inaccuratly accused of spearheading. Infact the good ol' Scorps have been around since 65'. "Fly To The Rainbow" was their second LP that was released in 1974 and featured new axe wizard Uli Jon Roth and future prog rock drummer Jurgen Rothensal. This might just be the weirdest, freakiest and downright most bizzare music Scorpions have ever commited to wax, and wouldn't you know this prehaps is the most mindblowingly creative effort of the band and prehaps of the early 70s. This is nothing like the Scorpions that would gain fame post 79, with big hooks and lyrics paying ode to sex, no, this is Scorpions in a full-blown psychedelic prog-fest. "Fly To The Rainbow", much like the first record "Lonesome Crow", has much in common with the burgeoning ambient Kraut Rock genre, with element of Hendrix-like psychedelia mixed in. And to top it all off, the record is concept, with all 7 tracks laying out one's struggle to "fly over the rainbow to freedom", which is an allegory of escaping into West Germany. Lets look at the tracks....

SPEEDY'S COMING
It all kicks off with this cool early Scorpions rocker about a female rock fan. Lyrics like "She likes Alice Cooper, She likes Ringo Star, She likes David Bowie & Freinds.." are a hoot.

THEY NEED A MILLION
A lovely song. Starts off with some beautiful classical guitar melodies and then out of no where punches the listener with a churning electric guitar from Rudy. Rudolf Schenker also sings lead on this one.

DRIFTING SUN
The most psychedelic sounding song right here. It is a Roth penned tune, and he also sings lead. People slag his voice but I think it's great for this music. Klause sings back up on the chorus. The strange voices in the middle are Rudolf talking through a Leslie speaker cabinet. Awesome solo by Roth.

FLY PEOPLE FLY
A slow, mellow burner. Very peaceful with sweet vocals from Klause, and more of Roth's Hendrix styled guitar solos.

THIS IS MY SONG
This is another rocker, albiet with a strong progressive edge to it simular to old school Rush. The bass and drum playing from Bucholz and Rothensal is phenomenal.

FAR AWAY
Another peaceful song. I don't like it as much as the rest of the album but it is still a very well crafted song with nice vocal melodies from Klausie.

FLY TO THE RAINBOW
Here it is, the title track and best song on the album. This song is the mother of all Scorpions songs. It's a 9 minute epic on par with anything by bands like YES, GENESIS or ELP have ever done. It begins with a Dlyan-esque type folk deal, with Roth singing like one of Robin Hood's merry men. It then morphs into a monster, with daul harmonized guitars and galloping bass strait from h%ll, and you can see where Iron Maiden ripped it's entire sound off-of. Then it changes too slow,psychedelic introspection with Roth seducing the listener. Jon Uli Roth is the greatest lead guitarist on the planet, and he shows you why on this song. Amazing!

This is great. If you are wondering what this sounds like, don't wonder, just go out and get this. If you enjoy alot of Woodstock-era music, you will like this. If you like Scorpions, you will like this. If you enjoy anything with even an ounce of creativity poured into it you will like this. I love "Fly To The Rainbow", and it is my favorite Scorpions record by far. Future Scorpions is great aswell, but they were never this artistic ever again. Highly recommended!

Before the Scorpions turned into another faceless hard rock 80's rock band, they were quite unique in the mid 70's the way they combined psychedelic, hippie and hard rock/heavy metal musical ideas. The songwriting was also much better back in the 70's. Hard rock that didn't sound cheesy but instead sounded really exciting and powerful.

The title song has some progressive rock elements, because the song builds to other musical themes, each one immediately fantastic upon hearing them. I love the lead singers voice on this track. "Speedy's Coming" is a really speedy metal song. This was before heavy metal became very ordinary and overstayed its welcome.

"This Is My Song" is probably the Scorpions idea of a pop/rock melody, and you know what, it works really well. The verse melody and chorus rules, and no one has mentioned it yet, but the guitar solo is REALLY melodic. "Far Away" truly rules. It's a very dreamy and psychedelic track that everyone should appreciate. I love the song.

Overall, the Scorpions of old are long gone, but the fantastic music remains available on compact disc all these years later.

You can hear the early talent of the Scorpions shining through on "Rainbow." It is not as commercially known as their 1980's releases, but it is nonetheless packed full of great music driven by intricately woven guitar work around great drumming and vocals. I began listening to the music on Fly to the Rainbow as far back as 1983...and continue to play it today. It is definitely a keeper!

This is an awesome album. The songs are very trippy in some spots and very definitely in the 70's psychedelic rock. Great guitar work.
The only negative is that the album is short.

Early Scorpions at their best. The music is more psychadelic with Uli Jon Roth handling the lead guitar duties and some of the lead vocals.

If you are a fan of the band this is definately a must buy. If you like classic hard rock music you will enjoy this album.

I had an unlabled burnt cd of this album for years, and didn't have any clue what it was. When someone finally let me know that it was in fact The Scorpions' 1976 album Virgin Killer, I did not believe them. It certainly is not the watered down cheese version of The Scorpions that I know of.
But, it is true. This really is The Scorpions. Back when they were a full driven seventies hard rock band... and believe me, this stuff holds up. If you are into that seventies hard rock/metal breed, you will surely dig this album. Just about every song is an intense guitar rocker, with flaring high pitched vocals, on par with Priest and early Maiden, only with a gutter trash metal feel of say Twisted Sister, when they were in their prime. It would be safe to say that around this time frame, The Scorpions may have been one of the heaviest rocking bands around. They have long since left that image in the dust as far as I know of. I saw The Scorps a few years ago, and they sucked. They played one of the longest, most gruelingly boring sets I have ever seen in my life. Needless to say not a single track from this era of the bands career was represented, because if some of these songs had been fired up, I'm sure I would have responded with more enthusiasm.
Anyway... this is a killer disc of hard rock that sounds great blaring through the speakers. Not in a campy-remember-when-this-was-cool kind of way either, like the bands eighties hits (I'm guilty of spinning a few of them). I'm suprised more metal fans don't know this stuff. Why there are no song samples available is beyond me. They're keeping it a secret I guess. There are song samples from their 1975 album In Trance here at Amazon, which isn't as good but it ain't to shabby either and will give you an idea about how much this band sounds NOTHING like the Scorpions you are probably familiar with. However, In Trance has a lot more ballad type songs on it. Virgin Killer is pretty much all heavy.
As a footnote or a "fun fact", this album also has an alternate cover that was banned in the US, where something strange is happening to a seemingly pre-pubescent girl. I admit that even I was just a little bit disturbed by it.
BUT, if you are into collecting that classic raw seventies metal (and I'm sure that if you are, you can never have too much) I seriously recommend this. Seriously, it's not a joke.

The low rating does not refer to the quality of the songs in this album, which is, of course, a total Scorpions classic. The low rating is to thsi edition especifically. It is not remastered, the sound is crap, one of the worst transfers from LP to CD that I have witnessed. Just be warned.

an excellent early scorpions release. Uli Roths final album with the crew.
Another must have.

Virgin Killer is the ultimate Roth-era Scorpions record for me.The others are good,but this one just rocks more and has more variety,not to mention Uli is balls out on almost every track.Catch Your Train stands up to the legendary performance of Sails Of Charon quite well,in my opinion.I actually prefer it,as it just seems even heavier,and Uli is shredding all over the place.The whacked out chord in Crying Days will stick in your mind forever.There are so many great guitar moments on this disc,I could go on and on...the solo on Backstage Queen....the entire Hendrix-tinged Polar Nights.....just magic.

If you only get one Uli Roth cd,let this be the one.

This is an outstanding CD! Wished I'd orderded the DVD to have the visual of this amazing performance.

This is a must have album for any Scorpions fan. It includes a couple of their lesser known gems along with some excellent covers! Klaus Meine has never sounded better.

this cd is of great quality as to be expected by the scorpions. the acoustic versions of their classic songs are all too brilliant.i will say though that i didnt like the versions of always somewhere and still loving you,much preferring the originals.my last word will be to say that the cover songs are of great standard,dust in the wind,especially.just make a point of listening to the version of queens love of my life and the cars drive,how fantastic.....baz

This album is absolutely fantastic. Choice of songs and the performance - out of this world!
