Senses Fail

I absolutely love this CD. It has a great mix of harder songs like "Lungs Like Gallows" and "Wolves At the Door", rock that isnt real hard or soft like "Family Tradition", "Blackout", "Four Years" and my favorite "Garden State", this also has a few softer songs like "Fireworks at Dawn" and "Yellow Angels". I love the balance that they put in this CD. The biggest improvement in this CD is the guitar. They have some wicked solo's and bunches more where you just wanna rock out when you hear them. It took me a little while to get used to Buddy's voice. But after a couple songs the strangeness was gone and it didnt bother me any more and I actually really liked it. Buddy's voice in this album sounds a lot like his voice when he performs so that is a big plus for me. The CD is great throughtout and I never skip any songs when listening to the CD. Not a single bad song on the album. Senses Fail truly did a great job of rockin' like they did in their early years but they were still able to show their progress as a band.

At first, when i listended to it, i hated it.. it sounds different from previous albums at first. but once u listen to it more, u find the same chord progressions and guitar work as before. i like the added guitar details.. overall, a great album

I have been a fan of Senses Fail since the beginning. I looked past the fact that live they were prtty horrible as Buddy would usually show up drunk and just slur his way through the set. But they were so great to watch live that I just tried not to listen. Still searching was pretty good, and with the release of this their latest project, I was excited for some new Senses Fail. But I was horribly let down. I can't even stand to write this because i own so many Senses Fail t-shirts, I've been to many shows, I've supported them the whole way. But I can't support this album. The ONLY good song is Family Tradition. Every other song is either about alcohol or New Jersey, or a shot of jack, or waking up in the morning to Drink more. Come on Buddy, does every song lyrically have to do with your stupid drinking problem? I can't get with it, but if it was even a good song musically I would probably still listen to most of the rest of the songs... but they are not. This new album is patterned after Still Searching. It is basically Still Searching Part 2. "Fireworks at Dawn" is the first song on the record and a frail attempt at duplicating the first song on the last album, "The Rapture". And then there is "Yellow Angels" which comes at about the same place on the record as "The Priest and The Matador" did and they sound basically the same.
A huge problem that I have with this record is one of the songs, Blackout, has a chorus that is basically a rip off of a chorus by Boys Like Girls called Heroine. I hate when bands do that. They have a song stuck in their head, and strangely they write a song that sounds just like what they have in their head. Did you think we wouldn't catch that Buddy? Seriously. Vocally on the rest of the songs Buddy is trying to sound very poppy. compare his voice on this album to any earlier records, IE Let It Enfold You or From the Depths of Dreams and you will see a man trying to sound like someone who should be opening for some teenage pop princess--you know, bands like Simple Plan or Bowling for Soup. Pathetic. Pick it up guys. I expect much better than all the other so called fans who blindly follow not knowing any better.

same sound, same style of lyrics, which in most cases would be a good thing... i just expected more from these guys.

This is overall a really good CD, although it feels a little bit flat; the glossed over drumming and ghostly guitars in some songs kinda make up for the flatness, but there's also the emotional factor. It seems this dude has been through hell since the last CD. "Hair of The Dog" and "Family Tradition" show this best. Songwriting wise, the songs are more coherent/cohesive than the ones on STILL SEARCHING, their last CD, from 2006 (can't believe it's already been 2 years!). The music doesn't have the freshness of their 2004 debut LET IT ENFOLD YOU, but I guess unless the artists completely re-invent themselves (which rarely happens...), that's pretty much to be expected.

This cd is brilliant. Every song is so well written and rocks with some tude homie. The lyrics will blow your face off and you will sing them for days. I can't wait till the new disc October 2008.

Well, first off, music is not to be judged by genre. It is to be judged by instead, talent and sound. If you dont like the sound, you dont like the band. If you dont like a genre because its popular, or becasue of the scnene it created, your an idiot. If you dont however like the genre because of its sound, thats okay. Great bands are rightfully popular. I mean, that just shows there good. Sure, I hate Panic at the Disco, but if there that popular they have to have some talent. Bands like Silverstein, Metallica, and Modest Mouse are AMAZING, and right now, they're all very popular. Of course, MM didnt start that way, but that's not the point. You cant just say, i love 80's music, and all new music has no talent. OIr, i just like grunge, because nirvana are gods (btw, i hate nirvana, but they DO have talent, i admit) But nonetheless, Senses Fail has an appealing sound, and great talent. (dont know their names as of now) but, the lead singer can really write lyrics, and his singing style is very unique, in my opinion. The back up vocals are definately a unique kind of scream, they are awesome. the drumming is phenomenal; very talented, especially on track such as Bite the Break Skin, and Martini Kiss. The guitars are crisp without to many technical riffs, but enough style to be unique, and the bass, with its high tone, definately resembles the style and doesnt clash at all like such bands as Machine Head.

This is a great cd by a great band. I love senses fail, and their passion really comes out well on this cd. Definitely worth having.

Senses fail's first album,"let it enfold you",is pretty good, But It has too much singing and not enough screaming, so here are the songs.

I saw a review claiming that this CD has the F-Word in "almost every line." This CD only has it in it 3 times. This CD is great though, "Choke On This" and "NJ Falls Into The Atlantic" are the best. Also, don't call me emo. I listen to Metal bands like Amon Amarth, In Flames, Cradle of Filth, and The Haunted.

a screamo cd which is uncharacteristic for this group.
i love their previous ablbums, but this one is, despite
track, Calling All Cars, is less than appealing for me.

My Review on STILL SEARCHING by Senses Fail

1) The Rapture- 8/10- short lil song, but it has some good lyrics. This song kind of explains the cd :)

2) Bonecrusher- 9/10- I like its beat! Awesone lyrics! (Drink up the lonliness). The chorus is awesome!

3)Sick or Sane(Fifty For A Twenty)-8/10- Awesome upbeat song, gets a lil repetitive though.

4)Can't Be Saved- 11/10- Single from the cd, the guitar is awesome in this song, and the chorus is awesome! (Im stuck in a coma, stuck in a never ending sleep <3)

5)Calling All Cars- 11/10- Another Single! Catchy and upbeat!

6)Shark Attack-8/10- A very upbeat song! Catchy chorus! Gets repetitive though.

7)Still Searching-12/10-My favorite form the cd! Awesome lyrics and suprisingly has some what of a lot of screaming definetly towards the end.

8)To All The Crowded Rooms- 7/10- I love the chorus! For some reason i didnt liek it much though. Very repetitive!

9)Lost and Found- 10/10- A slow song, but has very well written lyrics :)
( This is the part where i'll admit im getting what I deserve)

10)Every Day Is A Struggle- 11/10- The chorus is so catchy! Definetly one of the best on Still Searching.

11)All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues- 9/10- Has some cool techno, dont you love the song name? The chorus is catchy! Conncets to Negative Space and The Priest and The Matador.

12)Negative Space- Im not gonna rate it cause it's not a song, it's kind of cool. This is I guess this is kind of representing when the guy falls off the building or w/e and it just feels forever. This leads on to Priest and the Matador.

13)The Priest and The Matador-12/10- Kind of slow not really upbeat like other songs. This song is soo sad but it's written very beautifully. :)

This has to be one of the best cd's I have ever heard. It is amazing both lyrically and musically. Almost every song will have you itching for more. When I listened to this cd I couldn't get a lot of the songs out of my head for weeks. This album surpasses their others in the sense of having all of the band members sing, and not just Buddy. The gang vocals are amazing. From the rock hard singles "Calling all cars" and "Can't be saved", to the very catchy "To all the crowded rooms" to the unforgettable conclusion "The Priest and the Matador", this album will not let you down. The only songs I feel did not need to be on this record are "Sick or Sane", and the instrumental "Negative space." Other than that, perfect. Can't wait for their next album. (Favorites on the album are "Bonecrusher", "Calling all cars", "Can't be saved", "To all the crowded rooms", and "All the best cowboys have daddy issues.")

these guys have come a long way since the 1st album. this album is very dark which follows their work in the past. its very creative. i love it!

'From the Depths of Dreams' is pure heartfelt emotion, and 'Let It Enfold You' maintains similar quality. Both are phenomenal life-changing works. I can go a month with forgetting how I feel, and turn on one of these albums and remember there is more to life than the everyday routine. 'Still Searching' sucks in comparison and I'm concerned that the band that I thought I would enjoy for years to come is gone. So many reviews for Still Searching discuss the growth and maturity b/c the lyrics aren't so directly violent and the guitars are more complex. This album feels like someone told them these criticisms and they believed them. The great thing about the lyrics for the first 2 albums is just how blatantly violent and desperate they are, and yet they represent complex inner feelings of desperation and confusion, not a lame interest in true violence like many death metal bands. Moreover, the guitars have lost all feeling and, while the rhythms may be more complex (and still unique and energetic), the melodies are boring, if not cliche. I am not adverse to maturity for a band, but the new guitarist had already matured in Midtown, and their work was never great, though innovative for the late nineties.

So why 3 stars? If you weren't expecting something akin to the immortal previous releases, then I would imagine that this is still a good listen.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet, cuz honestly i'm not a fan of senses fail. I borrowed "Let it enfold you" and "from the depths of dreams" from a friend for about a week. Honestly i wasn't impressed. I had read reviews about how senses fail are "heavy" with hardcore "riffs" and "screaming", please people, especially metal/hardcore/metalcore fans, dont buy these albums. Yes they do have their merits, and yes even though they are emo, they seem to pull it off decently. But still, they are nowhere near as heavy as people make them out to be, hell i find chevelle heavier than senses fail. If you want awesome screaming try thrice (mainly their earlier stuff) all that remains, most precious blood, converge, killswitch engage, still remains, as i lay dying or haste the day and the like of those bands. If you want emo rock/semi-screamo here you go, otherwise avoid. P.S. To the guy who thinks Senses Fail's usage of the F$%K bomb is a bit too much, check "Skeletons" by "nothingface", now there is a band who knows how to swear :)

Sense fail in a quintet that knows how to play. Their only real problem was their genre choice. However they managed to become one of the only real "EMO/Screamo" bands. Most bands these days just talk about losing their girlfriends and being sad, but senses fail goes further than that, and this album shows it. With great basslines; hard, powerful drumming; guitar riffs that only get better in their full-legnth "Let It Enfold You"; and lyrics and vocals from Buddy that show you exactly what Emo is supposed to be. This first album hits the nail on the head. They have powerful imagery in their lyrics and different perspectives on heartache, death, and more. They progress superbly and scream to accentuate the tone. If your into the "Emo/Screamo" genre, definitely get this. And if you dislike that genre, this is one album you should check out; see if you still dislike it when it's done right.

First off people...PLEASE stop bashing posting review for bands you don't like. All you are doing is wasting space. Anyway about this EP...I actually really enjoyed it, much more than even their full length CD. You can feel the emotion and energy in each of their songs while the lyrics for the most part are stunning in my oppinion there is still room for improvement -- as there always is-- but not as much as in other bands. I feel that even now there is alot of untapped potential for these guys, that only needs time to blossum and grow. Ok, songs to look out for (In my oppinion) 1. The Ground Folds, 2. Free Fall without a Parachute, 3. Hand Guns and Second Chances. Though IMO each song brings something new to the table and none should be missed out on.

Pros --

The CD will be stunning for anyone who likes the "EMO" genre and maybe even to a few people who arent to fond of it.

The music in general is stunning from Guitar to Drums.

They dont seem to be your sterotypical "EMO" band in that their lyrics have more emotion and they sing more about actual feelings than about lost girlfriends.

Cons--

While they have been around for a while releasing an EP and a LP the band still has the potential to grow Lyrically and Musically than it already has.

Thee may be limited appeal due to the genre.

Let's start off, if i give this album 5 stars doesnt mean i'm comparing it with other cd's such as Metallica's Master of puppets or Pink Floyd for that matter. I am not comparing it to those bands and their cds. In its own respect I give it 4 stars. The vocals are sometimes off, the guitar is pretty basic, but I like it. I'm not going to say it changed my life, but I do enjoy banging my head to it every now and then. When I write reviews I don't compare it. If I like it, I like it, if I don't then too bad. Doesn't mean that genre sucks or it will never be as good as the classics. Whatever. 4 stars

Alright well all I have to say, is this album is great! Absolutly SPECTACULAR!!!!! I have an un-dying love for Senses Fail, they're great. Buddy, Dave, Garret, Mike and Dan, I love 'em all. This is deffinately one of the best cd's I have ever listened to. If you have never listened to Senses Fail before, now is your chance, do it, and don't be scared to. Download this cd, or buy this cd, or do something. These guys rock, and usually your first time hearing them you think "Oh God, it's screamo...where's the tylenol?" But actually, behind all of the screaming, there's a great message. Usually the first time you hear them, you can't understand it. Oh you think that's a problem? Well I want you to go to google or something and look up their lyrics and read them. You'll find that message. Sometimes you have to listen beyond what you hear. And believe me, I would not be saying all of this if I didn't care about Senses Fail. Like I said before, please listen to this cd, or buy it, or download it or do something. If you love it, cherish it and be very lucky you have something so wonderful. If you hate it, destroy and throw it in a fire. Okay well I hope after reading this review, you will go and buy/listen/download this cd. Okay now that your done reading this, get up and go to your nearest Sam Goody, FYE, or Coconuts and listen or buy it. Don't be lazy, do something and be a great fan to this amazing band. I may be only 14 but I know what I'm talking about. Believe me.

This album is one of my favorites of all time! Blending elements of punk, hardcore, and a little emo(not enough to be annoying). The disc is good from start to finish, every track is worth a listen.

This is a deluxe edition of the best CD that was ever made, has all the songs from Let It Enfold You, a new song ("American Death"), a cover of Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized", 3 acoustic songs ("Lady In A Blue Dress", "Buried A Lie", and "Rum Is For Drinking, Not For Burning"), and a DVD with 2 music videos ("Buried A Lie" and "Rum Is For Drinking, Not For Burning") and 3 live songs from the Taste Of Chaos Tour ("Bloody Romance", "You're Cute When You Scream", and "Irony of Dying On Your Birthday"). If you already own Let It Enfold You, don't buy this unless you really want to see the DVD and hear the new songs, but if you dont own LIEY then it's definitely worth the extra $2 for the DVD and new songs.

this album is pretty sweet, and the deluxe edition is awesome, it comes with a DVD and extra songs on the audio CD. I wouldnt advise buying it from amazon though. i bought it from walmart for 10 bucks. but anyways, if youre a fan of punk/rock/emo whatever you wanna label it as, then i would advise buying it.

I'm a huge fan of senses fail--got all there albums and seen them live plenty of times. When I heard about still searching i was so excited, and then i heard calling all cars on myspace, not as hardcore but still good overall, and i hoped the cd would be like LIEY, but when i got it i was shocked. Granted the songs are catchy, but they do sound more pop and commericialized like theyre trying to be liked by everyone. I miss the screaming and i hate how every song has a chorus in which everyone from the band sings in, plus the rawness of the 1st album is completely gone. The two cds sound like completely different bands. And one more thing, how many times can Buddy mention the fact he was on anti-depressants-i mean i swear in more than half of their songs on SS he metioned them. There is no more creativity in the music. But no matter how much i like LIEY over SS, i will still listen to them. I just hope their next cd is more raw and not as electronic and stuff.

The first CD from Senses Fail was more raw and stronger. This sophmore album is fairly catchy and enjoyable, but not the same caliper as the first.

like the others who posted reviews, i too am not a child. when i heard that senses fail had released an album i was quick to pick it up, especially since a few other fans had told me it was excellent. i bought it, went home and listened to it. expecting to hear the senses fail sound that i grew so fond of on past albums i was shocked to hear a completely different sound. itss almost like listening to 2 different bands, the new version a lot more mainstream and commercialized. there was a lot of creativity they left on other albums that wasnt here on this one mainly when it came to the melody, the lyrics are easier to understand but thats not necessarily a good thing in this case. i feel like they made this 40 minute cd to appease those fans looking for more from them, but more doesnt necessarily mean better, its a regression artistically hopefully not the end to the band.

Anyway...

This is an exceptional album in all aspects of the "Emo/Screamo/Rock" genres. The lyrics aren't your tyipical Emo though, because they're not whining about some girl, it's the band sharing personal life stuggles of religion and stability like their older albums. They put this album together beautifully from begininng to end, throwing everything they could at you. It all comes together just great.

But compared to their old stuff...

This is way different. I think the only way they could possibly still call themselves Senses Fail is because the lead vocalist's clean vocals have not changed one bit. If that's all you liked them for, you'll love this album.
They gained new things on this album, but lost some things too... some for the better, some for the worse.
Examples:
1) On this CD they have lower screams
2) On this CD they have guitar solos
3) On this CD they have very very little violence and insanity in the lyrics
4) This CD is more put together to make an album vs. a bunch of songs randomly placed on a CD.
5) In the old songs on From the Depths of Dreams and Let It Enfold You, the endings used to "make" the song with the breakdown, but they did not use that technique in this album
6) I can't think of the word, and this is my opinion, but I think this album is way too... produced? or mixed? something like that. Like, it's going to be hard to play it the same way, and well, live since they mixed it too much.

Basically they lost most of the things that made them unique in this album. It's not the real Senses Fail anymore.
But that doesn't mean this is a bad album at all! If you're stubborn and want to hear some songs similar to "Bloody Romance" or "Bite To Break Skin", you won't like this album. If you like a lot of different types of music and are up for anything, you'll probably love this CD.

First off im 19 and i was to lazy to make an account so im just writing a review under child so i dont have to register. Now on to the album. I've always liked senses fail, from the EP to let it enfold you to now. Buddy's voice is unique and all the musicians in the band are very skilled. I've always loved the intensity of the band, especially in from the depths of dreams. This album is certainly no dissapointment, the guitars are just excellent as is the drumming and the vocals. Everything flows together so nicely on this album creating a hard rock feel combined with a great melodic feel also.

Senses fail didnt just produce a slightly modified version of let it enfold you and sell it off as still searching. They obviously put alot of time into creating a new sound and it paid off. The lyrics arn't just some sappy emo crap that was thrown in there for little high school girls and guys to dance to and cry about, it is heart felt and deep. You can sense the emotional pain buddy was going through while creating and singing the lyrics. And thank christ its not all just about a relationship with a girl (although senses fail has never been that way) As you can tell im just so sick of these sappy emo lyrics that bands like panic at the disco add to songs that have no substance or thought put into them. Thank you senses fail for not falling into that scene and having the creativity to come up with a unique sounding and heart felt album.

If you've liked senses fail before this record i would be amazed if you didnt like this one. I would say this is their best album to date with from the depths of dreams as a close second and of course let it enfold you at third. Some may disagree with me about let it enfold you being their worst album and i know alot of people love it. Let it enfold you was by no means a bad album, it was very good, but it just sounded a little too poppy and mainstream to me and some of the songs were a little on the weak side. Still searching is just so much deeper and the music is much more complex.

Overall, the band has matured a great deal and still searching is simply an excellent album that is deffinitely worth you money.

this cd was a free compilation given out.. most of the songs can be found on 2 oe 3 other compilation out there.. this is not worth anywehre near 14$
