Shania Twain

As a new country fan, not familiar with much of her work, even though I am 52, I wasn't that impressed with the cd.
There were some nice songs, some pretty ballds, but there is nothing outstanding about her voice or songs to warrant one album selling 30 million copies.
Her voice is pleasant but she has no range or power at all.
My conclusion is her records were produced to appeal to the largest audience possible by being as bland as possible with somewhat risque lyrics.
Is she really a country artist? The only really country song I heard is the last one on the album. The rest are as much pop, disco or rock as they are country.
What exactly is her appeal aside from being very pretty?
Needless to say I will not be ourchasing her new cd if and when she ever gets around to recording one.

Good songs if you like Shania you can't go wromg with this cd. I give it 5 stars!!

This is the first Shania Twain CD that I have purchased, but I was very disappointed with the musical content. Probably will not buy any other Shania Twain CD's.

Shania is one of my favorite country crossover artists from the 90s. This cd is a good collection of her music. It ranges from her roots in country to her pop crossover hits.

Best thing to do is to have all her albums, they are all great, otherwise get this great hits, any big fan of her must have it...cant give here 5 stars cause I'm mad...when is she going to make a new album? I'm guessing it will be a triple cd album full with all megahits LOL

Come On Over by Shania Twain sold millions and millions of albums but I despise this cd with a passion. Shania is one of the worst singer-songwriters I have ever heard, especially in the genre of country/pop. Her voice is completely unoriginal, there's no fire, range, or accessiblility. I can't believe how truly awful her songwriting is! Terrible cliches, junior high filled lyrics and child-like melodies. Songs like That Don't Impress Me Much, Man I Feel Like a Woman!, Don't Be Stupid, and You're Still the One just gives me the willies. The only two tracks that have any emotion in them are From This Moment On and You've Got a Way. Come on Over is a horrible and silliest record of the '90s. Stay clear from this over-rated mess!

Mutt Lange is 16 years older than Shania. He remembered the golden era of rock and the great songs of Elvis and The Beatles. He and Shania penned 16 gems for Come On Over in grand tradition. Come On Over was released in November, 1997. It went on to become the biggest selling album of all time by a female artist, selling 39 million copies. It dominated the airwaves through 1998 and 1999. Come On Over was #1 on the country album charts for over a year. This was unheard of. You're Still The One was Song of the Year. Single after single went number one: Love Gets Me Everytime, Don't Be Stupid, Honey I'm Home, That Don't Impress Me Much, Man! I Feel Like A Woman! Girls around the country sang Shania songs nightly in karaoke bars. 1998 was to Shania what 1956 was to Elvis and 1964 was to The Beatles.

This album is and will forever be my favorite album in music. Period. Shania Twain has got the sweetest voice, this album proves her eternal talent as a singer and a songwriter.
She released 11 singles from that album which is never before seen for any other album in history.
It broke records such as: - Best-selling album by a female artist, - Best-selling album of the '90s and Best-selling country music album...

this is one of the better cds i have found for my wedding and it shipped fast

I purchased this CD for my 78 yr old mother, a widow, who is getting remarried this Sept. and needed some recorded music to play before the ceremony and for the processional and recessional. She absolutely loves the CD and plays it over and over and over! It is a beautiful CD and I would highly recommend it for anyone needing this type of music.

This was a great resource for prelude music as well as music for the ceremony. It is a nice blend of classical and contemporary. I used it for a friend's wedding and we were all very pleased with it.

I am in the process of selecting music for my daughter's wedding and wanted to listen to a variety of music. This CD provided that for me. Now I have a better idea what selections we will use through the ceremony.

I bought this CD hoping to find some background music for my wedding reception and (fingers crossed) ceremony. While the music and recordings are high-quality and the cd does sound great, it sounds a little "father-of-the-bride."

It sounds a little like the kind of music that would be the stereotypical background music in a movie about weddings. Much of the tracks are 4 piece string quartet and, because of this, it lends itself to a more traditional wedding ambience. I recommend this piece for anyone looking for purely traditional, and possibly stereotypical wedding music. If you want something more upbeat, I recommend anything by Michael Buble or standards like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Shania Twain made a country crossover milestone with her 2nd album "Come On Over" which was all written and produced by one of pop rocks greatest producers & song writers "Mutt lange". Mutt just so happens to also be Shania's husband at the time and now x husband. I guess with high expectations to top themselves Mutt & Shania just didn't make UP! a winner. Instead it just seems like every song is trying so hard to be something and falls short. She tries so hard to create pop perfection and it just doesn't work. This album is nothing compared to "Come On Over" and i can see why she hasn't done an album since this mess fest. With her pending divorce i doubt Shania will ever be on top the way she was before. Her husband is beyond talented as a musical artist and without that marriage or union i doubt she will be able to find another hit maker to churn out the hits for her.

Shania Twain's "Up" cd didn't sell as many copies as her previous ones, but I still think it's the best. There are so many good songs, and so many songs, period. None of them are bad. A few are mediocre but most are as good as anything that gets played on the radio.

I especially like "Forever and Always", "Nah", "Waiter, Bring Me Water", "Thank You Baby". These are just great.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think this is Shania's best album without a doubt. I liked her so much after this that I actually went to see her in concert. I never thought that would happen, but here music became more pop and I loved it.

(3 1/2 *'s) Shania Twain is entirely fun, frolicking, and infectious. Her preceding two albums, 'The Woman in Me' and 'Come on Over' are hybrid classics that are remarkable and entertaining. On 'Up' we get the same generous helpings as always, even if the fare is uneven in quality throughout. The best moments are almost at par with her best, but the lesser works sound like middle of the road music from the 1980's. If she were more selective about the quality, she could give us all another great C.D. like its predecessors. If only the delivery lived up to the exclamation points of her song titles, this musical trek could have gotten unstuck in a trot and gone for a gallop.

Off to a promising start, the title track ushers her familiar effervescence with fun lyrics to match. Following is the playful mischief of "I'm Gonna Get You Good,' which is then almost matched by "She's Just Not a Pretty Face". In the slower realms she truly satifies with the heartwarming "Forever and for Always" and later with "I Ain't Going Down". Unfortunately, most of the rest goes downhill. "Ain't No Particular Way" and "Ka-Ching" add variety but in an unremarkable way. Most of the rest is filler that reminds one of middle of the road pop from the eighties.

You can't knock her generosity too heavily. Complete with two C.D.'s one more pop friendly, the other with country leanings, Shania Twain may well rest on her laurels for awhile. For even a decent entry on her behalf, she's always a welcome addition to my C.D. collection.

Up is Shania's fourth album. It is much more of a pop than a country production. It comes as 2 discs, one called a pop version and the other a country version. However, even teh supposed country version has notable pop influences. Genre aside, this is a great CD from Shania. It has a whole bunch of fun songs and a good mix too - the songs do not sound like each other. There's a lot of music, it clocks in at 1 hr and 13 min. Great value for the Shania fan. My favs:

I love the title son "Up" - but there are sooo many songs on this albusm-Shania really likes to give her fans their money's worth. I had to listen to a few a couple of times, at first, they are so different from her previous style. And so many songs! Maybe there's too many-I mean, I don't think some of my favorites got much airtime-In My Car Ill Be the Driver-I thought for sure that would be a really big hit. And "No Particular Way"--that is really great. Not pop-not countryi-I don't know, but I really enjoyed it. And, "I'm Not in the Mood" pop version, really has a great beat. Of Course, "Forever and Always", GOnna Getcha Good, and many others, are good, too. She is my absolute favorite female artist-my kids introduced me to her years ago with "An Man of Mine", and I've been hooked ever since.

Not only was this the first Shania CD I bought, it was the first CD I bought as well. "Any Man Of Mine" is the monster breakout hit from a monster breakout album. This rightly put her at the top of female country singers, where she would quickly decide to go the pop crossover route, and a few albums later, she's retreated to her castle in Switzerland and is pretty much gone from the music scene. But for a few years there, Shania ruled the world starting with this album. Too bad she forgot to dance with the one that brung her there.

there are a couple of songs that are worth listening to. can't say that for the whole CD

THIS CD WAS A GIFT FOR A FRIENDS BIRTHDAY. SHE ENJOYED IT EMENSLY. SHANIA IS A VERY TALENTED LADY.

This is kind of a transitional album. Shania's first album, the one before this, was in the country vein. She begins the transition to country/pop and country/rock that came to real fruition in Come on Over, the album after this one. This album isn't quite the blockbuster that its successor is, but still very good. Very good tunes:

This is the first Shania Twain album that I ever bought and it still sounds as fresh to me as the day I bought it. Her personality and gift for singing with real feeling comes across here more strongly than most of her albums. There is a sensitivity, warmth and zest for life that is communicated that is hard to put into words. Both the fast and slow songs on this album are very good and the ballads are particularly moving.

This is Shania's first album. It didn't become the huge commercial success that the subsequent two albums did, but don't judge it by that. This album has a distinctly more country flavor to it, as opposed to the pop/country mix of subequent albums. So it will be more pleasing to country purists, but is not so "traditional" as to put out fans of other genres. Shania brings to the songs in this album all of the energy and force as to the songs in other albums. The uptempo stuff [What Made You Say That, God Aint Gonna Getcha for That, Crime of the Century] really move along and will make the listener tap the foot. They're nicely balanced by ballads that are meaningful and not at all lugubrious. This album can be listened to straight through without becoming impatient and reaching for the skip button. A winner.

This cd is alright. It is too short to be a shania twain cd. It has some good songs like: What made you say that?, and God ain't gonna get you for that.

SHANIA HADN'T HOOKED UP WITH MUTT. THE MATRIAL IS GOOD. IT IS JUST HER EARLY MATRAIL WITHOUT MUTT.

I have only just obtained a copy of this album and I can safely say I REALLY like it. The first three tracks are also on the 'Platinum Collection' DVD but the rest are terrific, and 'Crime of the Century' just blew me away!

In my opinion the only artist in my album collection who comes close to Shanias effortlessly belting performance here is Patsy Cline, so if you like her you'll like this.

I know it wasn't overly successful at the time but as a retrospective I think Shania should be proud to have it in her back catalogue. It's a faultless debut and a very worthy addition to any Shania fans collection.

You may not think so at first but it WILL grow on you...

I got this album when I saw it in BMG around the time The Woman In Me was huge. I got it because I loved Shania. Although the album is by no means great, it is still a good debut album. Some of the songs aren't really all that special, and her personality doesn't shine through the way it does in her later work. The thing that works in the album's favor is Shania's voice. Her voice turns even the most generic songs on this album into something worth listening to. My favorite song on the album is "Got a Hold On Me", which is the song here that hints the most at the greatness that was soon to come. Even if you're not a huge fan of country music but you love Shania, this CD is only about 30 minutes long, so if you don't like it, it's not too long to be unbearable. However, I think you will like it because this album shows that Shania had a lot of talent even when she was working with producers who didn't really know how to pick the right material for her. It's worth buying.

Shania Twain's album Come On Over is best yet. At least I think so. No matter what you listen to -- rock, blues, R & B, Jazz, whatever -- this is an album you're sure to enjoy, even though it's exceptionally girly, but what can I say, she's a wonderful singer and she really shows what a girl can do. This album can get you syked and pumped for any and everything and match any of your moods. Women go through many different experiences and these songs really nail them.

This is simply a must-have album in your CD collection. It has everything!

I was expecting it to have a lot of International type music to it but it virtually sounded the same as the original. I think I may have mistaken this cd title for another of Shania's. Her music is great but I don't see a difference with the international version.

"For The Love Of Him" is the same cd as "Wild and Wicked". Don't make the mistake of buying both, thinking you are getting two different cd's.

This is a superb addition to the audiophile's collection of DVD-Audio discs, with very high-resolution tracks that let you hear every nuance of the music.

As a bonus, there are several music videos (in standard DVD-Video format but still in 5.1 Dolby Digital surround) including the sensuous beach scenes of 'Forever and For Always'.

An excellent album for contemporary country fans.

First off, the title of this item is a bit missleading saying sacd
dvd-audio. This disc is actually in dvd-audio format, not SACD. The DVD
features the tracks present on the red disc of UP, that being the pop
versions of the songs. You have the choice between multichannel and stereo
tracks.

This was my first dvd-a disc and I must say I was impressed with this new
format. The stereo versions of the tracks didn't really go much beyond the
original CD for me but the multichannel tracks really brought things out of
the music I hadn't noticed. The sound is definitely more defined and the
reer channels are used well. It goes well beyond the virtual surround
offered with Dolby prologic II.
