That being said, there are a few standout tracks:

Babyface/Toni Braxton with "Give You My Heart" was one of Toni's first major appearances on the national scene. I've heard better from both artist but this track is significant for that reason alone. My favorites from this soundtrack was Aaron Hall/Charlie Wilson's "Everything Is Going To Be Alright", Johnny Gill's "There You Go", "Reversal Of A Dog" with Highland Place Mobsters & a very young TLC and "Feels Like Heaven" from Kenny Vaughan & 'The Art Of Love'. I think that BoyzIIMen's famous song "End Of The Road" & "Hot Sex" from A Tribe Called Quest is here as well.

The rest of the soundtrack was listenable but nothing that sticks out. The music I named is what I remember best. Overall, it does bring back feelings from my last days of high school and that summer going into college. Its actually 5 stars for the nostalgia but the actual CD gets a 3 star rating. Still worth it though if you were a fan of New Jack Swing or want to know what it was like back in the late 80's to early 90's.

The soundtrack to the Eddie Murphy movie (which I loved) is a very mixed set, which has one moment of pure quiet storm bliss. Whilst she had her moments as a solo performer, (please see her album Toni Braxton this song is ok, nothing more. 'It's Gonna Be Alright' a duet between those two power house vocalists, Aaron Hall, and Charlie Wilson, is not a good vehicle to showcase their talents. Things pick up with the Keith Washington 'Tonight is Right' (also check out his excellent debut CD Make Time for Love. The less said about PM Dawn the better (very weak) and the Grace Jones offering. 'End of the Road', was a massive hit for Boyz to Men, which still gets airplay today, but I found it too sweet for my liking. I loved the funky' Reversal of a Dog, featuring Left Eye of TLC, and Dallas Austin's group (Highland Place Mob, I think)
Toni Braxton second offering 'Love Should've Brought You Home', was a anthem for dogged women the world over, and was a minor hit for the artist. BUT I brought this on the strength of ONE song. 'There you Go;, the LA/Babyface penned & produced track, is a MUST have for any lover of quiet storm moments. Even now, 15 years later, I can remember when my Boy in my local record shop played this for me. After that I didn't listen to the rest of the CD that was enough for me. The only other hot track on here is Hot Sex', by A Tribe Called Quest. Ruff. All in all a mixed bag, with one jewel included.

The first track seems to be hard to find anywhere else but here, and so for the wonderful songwriting talents of Babyface, the album was worth its secondhand purchase price.

The other songs are listenable, but not exceptional.

This is my message to everyone who does not own Boomerang the Soundtrack or the movie; PLEASE GO AND PURCHASE THEM. This movie is a classic and the CD. The funniest song is by Grace Jones, she makes me laugh like crazy, but her lyrics go along with the movie itself. Listen to "Reversal of a Dog", which talks about how Eddie Murphy was dogged out or what is called reversal of another dog whom is Robin Givens. The most romantic songs are by Johnny Gill called "There U Go" and by Keith Washington called "Tonight is Right". This is just some beautiful music! I had both the movie and the soundtrack on what we consider modern day recording VHS and cassette tape. I replaced them with DVD and CD. You know the strangest thing that I realized with the movie itself is the fact that the way they dressed back then or for that particular movie is kind of how some of us still dress for our corporate jobs or to go out on a date in 2006. Some folks are still rockin' Halle Berry's signature haircut, sporting the Robin Givens type hairstyle or hair weave, the tailored fitted business suits. Funny! Enjoy that movie and its CD, they are must haves for your your collection. Can you believe that Boomerang came out in 1992, wow that was about 14 years ago. Amazing!

This soundtrack is somewhat mediocre. Most of the songs are typical r'n'b cuts, but unfortunately, the album overall fails. Toni Braxton wasn't a star yet, Boys II Men hit it big time with "End of the Road" and Grace Jones' "7 Day Weekend" remains the highlight of the entire album. Most of the songs are boring, except Braxton's and Jones' tracks there really isn't much to shout hooray for. Mediocre at best.

I love this cd. I downloaded this whole cd on my iPod. I wish I would've purchased this cd a long time ago. If you don't have this cd this is a must get cd.

Recently I was at "Spin", a gay video bar in Chicago on Halsted and Belmont in Boystown. They played Shanice's video of her hit "I Love Your Smile". While sipping on a pint of Bass, I fondly recalled when this song came out. I really loved the production and arrangement, and her vocals were just the icing on the cake! She completely nailed a very challenging vocal and rhythm arrangement with this song. Its really a completely feel good, upbeat R&B song. But melodically, a daunting challenge for any vocalist with that high pitched, bouncy intro (doo doo doo doo doo doo do !!!) The next day I decided to see what was offered of her work on Amazon.com, and came across her Ultimate Collection. I ordered it. It arrived promptly 2 days later. I put it on my stereo and was just BLOWN AWAY at the fantastic songs and the production! The CD opens with a cute nostalgic little snippet of her singing "Jesus Loves Me" in church as a little girl, out of key, as well as the untuned piano backing her! But this is immediatly followed by a beautiful vocal interlude of her singing "Keep Your Inner Child Alive" which immediatly makes the listener say to themselves....God, she definitely matured into a great female vocalist since then!! Next comes my reason for getting the CD..."I Love Your Smile" (Cranked it, dancing around in my Lincoln Park studio apartment) She gets funky on "No 1/2 Steppin". But what follows in contrast, is one of the lushest R&B ballads I've heard in recent years called "Do I Know You". She sings so sweetly and beautifully, backed by some of the best synthesizer and background production. You need to sip on some good wine while listening to Shanice's ballads on this CD. They are simply works of art. Literally journeys into utopia of the sonic senses! Ballads like "Just A Game" follow complete suit to "Do I Know You" by the choice of colors of the synthesizers, chordal production, that simply lay a riverbed of perfect foundation to her gorgeous voice. She SOARS vocally on "Just A Game" Shanice simply opens up to a new level of vocal prowess on songs like "Just A Game" the moment you think you've felt she's given her all. Its hard to describe. This CD is a MUST for R&B ballad lovers! Some of her past hits like "The Way You Love Me", "Lovin You" (remake of Minnie Ripperton's version) are fantastic. (Her remake of "Lovin You" is unique, and relevant. I usually hate remakes, but when an artist like Shanice reaches down to her own stylings to enhance the original...well then I'm sold!) "Turn Down The Lights" ends out the Collection as another variation of the great vocals of her hit, "I Love Your Smile" Trust me, you'll walk away smiling for sure after this unbelievable compilation of her talents. I like the song choice on this album. However the best song she ever performed is not on here. "It's For You" from the Meteor Man soundtrack is by far her biggest hit.

Shanice used to be one of my favourite female singers until she 'disappeared' at the end of the 90's. Now I hear she is back, it made me revisit her music and I remember why I loved her voice and music. Cryin, Silent Prayer and Way You Love Me are some of her best songs. She was a big talented force there for a while, and if you listen to this great compilation of her best work, you'll know why. I'm loving this again, and look forward to when I receive her new cd. In the mean time, this is fantastic stuff and something all her fans will appreciate.

Great CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love shanice and Every Woman Dreams is an excellent display of her vocal ability and talent.....Well worth the long wait from Shanice....True R&B.....I love the tracks "Every Woman Dreams", "Things in the Movies", "That's why I love You", "Joy", and "Forever Like A Rose", Shanice deserves more recognition for her talent as a singer and song writer. Can't wait for another CD from Shanice...

I got this album the end of last year and I am so happy that Shanice is happy. But the entire album was about her man and what he means to her and how he has fullfilled her I don't mind 2 or 3 songs tops dedicated to him but the whole album was about him It should have been called The Flex Files. Her voice is amazing she has the gospel touch to it....But her songs could have had more meaning since she's trying to reach the Grown and sexy crowd now...I hope I can give her next album 5 stars because I am and always will be a fan So Niecy your next album make it more interesting and less Flexy..........

Two stars for the voice alone. The writing on this album is very sophomoric. It takes me back to high school. I am a very big Shanice fan but this one should have been left alone or Neicy should have waited for more mature sounding songs. Forget about loving your man and bragging about it like you have a high school crush. This album should have been "grown and sexy."

This is another great album by the lovely and talented, Shanice Wilson. My favorite songs off this album are I Love Your Smile which was one of her biggest hits in the 90's. What's not to love about this song? I also like I'm Cryin' which is a great soul song and Shanice never sounded so much better. I also like Silent Prayer, the duet with Johnny Gill. They sound so good together.

This is once again another great album by Shanice.

In 1987, then-14-year-old Shanice Wilson debuted with an acceptable but underdeveloped and largely unnoticed album. 4 years later, barely into adulthood, she has matured considerably. She sings her heart out on ballads like "I'm Cryin'" and the the Minnie Riperton cover "Lovin' You". She also gets upbeat and cheerful on the huge hit "I Love Your Smile" and funky on the high-pumping "Forever In Your Love". Though she recorded a couple more albums over the next few years, this album pretty much shows the peak of Shanice's strengths, although she did make a memorable contribution in 1992 to the soundtrack of the popular teen TV drama "Beverly Hills 90210".

As with many top-notch singers shnice shines on her ballads. "I'm Cryin", "Loving You", & "Silent Prayer" produced by Narada Michael Walden (of "How Can I Ease The Pain" Lisa Fischer). She has a few surprises also with both versions of "I Love Your Smile" & the remix (remix by Hakeem, of The Boys). This is THE Shanice album to get if you are to get one. Wonderful R&B

With 'Inner Child' (1991), Shanice had hits with 'I Love Your Smile', 'Silent Prayer', and her rendition of Minnie Riperton's Loving You' was stunning, BUT the CD sufferes from a few filler tracks (including interludes!!). Aside from the filler, I'd recommend 'Inner Child', but prepare to use your 'skip button' a few times! Also, if you own 'Inner Child', consider remastering it by adding BONUS TRACKS like 'Saving Forever For You' (fr.'Beverly Hills 90210' SDTK 1992), 'Don't Wanna Love You' (fr.'Boomerang' SDTK 1992), and THE KILLER JAM 'It's For You' (fr.'Meteor Man' SDTK 1993). I'm suprised the record company didn't do this already, but what can you expect!!

Shanice lets her listeners know up front that yes, she does have an inner child, and not only is it alive and well, it is truly visible. Shanice makes it known that she is not only one of the best singers to ever enter the industry, but that she also has a playful side, which is shown on this album. From the silly interludes to the simplistic song lyrics, Shanice shows you that her inner child shines!
The album offers an about even amount of both slow and faster tempoed songs, which is good for those who don't just like to hear one tempo on albums they listen to. "I Love Your Smile" is the album's most successful, and perhaps best single. The song made teenagers and even many adults smile. The catchy chorus and creative versus helped to give "I Love Your Smile" the success that it had. Shanice covered Minnie Ripperton's "Lovin' You" on this album. She really shows her vocal range on this song. One will never wonder why she was given a record contract after listening to this song. "I'm Crying" and "You Were the One" are other beautiful ballads Shanice included on this album. These songs are not only beautifully sung, but they have a deep meaning to them which a lot of people can relate to. Sure, Shanice has a playful side, but she also shows that she has a more serious side with the mid-tempoed "Peace in the World" and "Silent Prayer".
Shanice shows us that she can cover all types of songs on her album. The album is definitely a good listen, but it's not perfect. It is surely worth buying and keeping for years to come.

Shanice is now (since the decline of Whitney) my favorite female vocalist. Even if she wasn't beautiful, her talent would over shadow that. But she's got it all. This cd is awesome. The once she came out with in 2006 was just as good. I hear she is coming out with another one this year. I can't wait to hear her voice radiate thru the songs. Everyone should definitely listen and love Shanice....

This album was so good, I find myself listen to it over and over when I just need to relax(not that there are no other artists available or anything). All I can say is this is not one of those CDs that you buy and regret ever buying it

Shanice is to me the most underated singer in the business, she sings amazing. No other singer has anything on her and it shows on this album. One of my all time favorite songs is "When I Close My Eyes", which is featured on the album. I hope she finally gets her big break because she deserves it. I wish her the best. BUY HER CD'S, SHE'S GREAT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Shanice is singer that has seniority in the game really put it down on this album. She released this album when artist like Tracie Spencer, TLC and Whitney where all making a comeback for the millenium and she shined just as well as they did. When I first saw her video for "When I Close My Eyes'" with fashion model Will Lemay I was so glad 2 see her back in the game. This CD is so tight "Doin My Thing" is my favorite and when she sings "You Need A Man" her voice hits notes out of this world she is another favorite artist of mine and when her new cd "Every Womans Dreams" drops trust me I will be there to cop that 2.

bought this CD when it first came out years ago and i'm still listening to it today. it's got many great hits. my faves include "Yesterday:, "You Need a Man", and my top fave "Fall For You". I always have that song on repeat because of the great lyrics and the beautiful piano playing from Babyface. that song really makes me melt. Shanice has a great voice and i wish to see more music from her. I also recommend finding an oldie she did with Kiara back in the '80s - "This Time". it came out as a single when she still used her last name Wilson, before she became really famous.

Shanice Wilson has to be one of the most talented singers of all time, right next to Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. But, have you ever seen Mariah or Christina sing like Shanice? Here's my review on the album.

1.) I Think I Love You: Great, funky song to start off the album. It's fun to dance to and Shanice sounds so amazing.
2.) No 1\2 Steppin: Another fun song to dance to. Shanice's vocals sound absolutely strong and wonderful.
3.) [Baby Tell Me] Can You Dance: One of my favorite songs off this album.
It's so amazing and also, so very 80's!
4.) Spend Some Time With Me: Another cool funky song to dance to.
5.) He's So Cute: Another fun, cool, funky song to dance to. It's another one of my favorite songs on this album.
6.) I'll Bet She's Got a Boyfriend: I love this song. It sounds so funky and it's cool to dance to.
7.) Do I Know You: This one of the three ballads on the album. It's so sweet and romantic. Shanice is so great at singing ballads because you
can hear her wonderful voice.
8.) Just a Game: I love this song!! It's so amazing and Shanice sounds absolutely AMAZING!! OMG, this song is awesome!
9.) The Way You Love Me: The last song on the album. It's so sweet and sensual. Great song to end the album.

This is shanice version of janet's control cd(they were friends at the time), it's umistakable. The uptempo songs are so funky and full of attitude. Shanice obviously has a great voice the ballads are too vapid & old for her..even though "the way you love me" is a great song with killer melodies

With 'Discovery', Shanice had a few dance hits like 'No 1/2 Steppin' & 'Tell Me Can You Dance', (and a few other filler dud tracks!), but I really enjoyed her slow jams, where she SANG like it was no tomorrow. Songs like 'Do I Know You ?', 'Just A Game', and 'The Way You Love Me' still sound fresh TODAY, and are great illustrations of Shanice's awesome talents. Also, if you own 'Discovery', consider remastering it by adding Shanice's classic duet with Kiara from 1988 titled 'This Time'. I'm suprised the record company didn't do this already, but que sera sera!!

I can honestly say this is a good debut. It's hard to believe that she was only 14 years-old when she released this good debut. I think she has a really good voice. She sounds like she's in her 20's not in her teens. I really can't say any bad things about this album. I think this album should have gotten more promotion so that it could have gotten a greater success. My favorite songs off of this album are: 1. "No 1/2 Steppin'" 2. "Spend Some Time With Me" 3. "He's So Cute" 4. "I'll Bet She's Got A Boyfriend" 5. "The Way You Love Me" (This song should have made her a star). Anyway I really enjoyed this album. It will go down as one of the greatest albums to come out in the 1980's.

I remembered when Shanice's first album came out. I still like it to this day. I liked "Can You Dance", but I played the very funky "No 1/2 Steppin" the most. That had a very funky groove to it and could have challenged any of Janet Jackson's "Control" album hits! I loved "I Love" and how she held that note for some 15-20 seconds on it. This was a good first effort for her, she sounded strong vocally, they were smart to keep it to her fun teen image, and it set the tone for her later albums on Motown.

I own all of Shanice Wilson's albums with the exception of her rare debut, "Discovery." Although I feel that Shanice is one of the most vocally gifted singers ever to enter the music industry, none of her albums are masterpieces. Her albums usually contain two or three really great songs, two or three good songs, and the rest of the material is forgettable, and some of it is plain bad. Such is the case with her sophomore album, "21...Ways to Grow." The title of the album is creative because at the juncture that this album was released, she had just turned 21 years old. The lyrics are very elementary, the overall production is just okay, but, as usual, her voice is on point and beautiful as ever, and sometimes it makes you forget that the album itself is just average.

The only song that was officially released to radio is ironically the best song on the album, and that song is entitled "Turn Down the Lights." This song isn't played on the radio often, but if you have ever heard it in your life, when you hear it again, you'll probably say, "I love that song!" Everything about "Turn Down the Lights" is sexy, even the production. The way in which Shanice sings this song is very seductive, not to mention she hits some unbelievable falsetto notes that would make you say, "Mariah, who??" It's a ballad, and easily one of Shanice's best songs to date. "When I Say That I Love You" is the second strongest track. I particularly enjoy the chorus and the lyrics. The rest of the material here is pretty forgettable. However, some songs are just terrible like "Ace Boon Coon", "I Like" and "Give Me the Love I Need." The production on these songs is dated and the lyrics are very cheesy.

Shanice fans are sure to get something from this album, so, no doubt, they need to try to retrieve this. Everyone else, if you need a Shanice album in your life, she is at her best on her third self-titled album, so consider purchasing that one. This album is not terrible, but it's not much memorable material found here, either.

I had this CD years ago when it was on cassette and wanted to update my collection. There's lots of music I still need to get replaced from my original collection of cassettes and this was definitely one of them. It takes me back to things I was going through at the time and I believe it's one of Shanice's best CDs she's done.

Anyway, this CD is tight, I just rebought it, I love the interlude for "I Care," "Turn Down The Lights," and "Ace Boon Coon."

I was 14 when this CD came out and I liked it then, and still like it. One of my favorites is " Don't Break My Heart", I listen to this CD all the time, she can blow! I'm mad her CD didn't get promoted like it should have. Now shes got kids w/husband Flex and has another CD out, that I didn't know about.. but I will definitely check out her other CD's!

I love Shanice's music, but I didn't like this album 10 years ago, and still don't. It started the trend going now of the 18-19 producers crammed on one album. She had too many on there and the album dragged as a result when I listened to it. I nearly fell to sleep in the middle. Some numbers sound too slow and slushy. I liked Turn Down the Lights. But that's the only strong song out of a stale album. I don't know why she didn't have just R. Kelly, Jam and Lewis and Babyface on this album instead of cramming 18-19 producers that gave her some bland songs, some dull material and songs that just don't match with her very great voice. She was excited about turning 21 for this album, but the album didn't sound like it to me. No wonder it bombed so badly. Her '91 album was much better than this and the '99 album was far more superior. This set the standard for some uneven-sounding R&B albums during the '90s.

Shanice has a very beautiful voice on this song. But, you know why I give this one 5-stars??

She gets away with re-working "A Dream" by DeBarge by using EXACTLY the same chords in the same order but different quanitizing. GENIUS.

Still its a very well produced and performed song by a wonderful artist and is a must for any shanice fan.

I was always a great fan of Shanice.Since she was on the limelight (i.e)During her early days in music industry. I don't have much words to describe her as she a great artist that this univers has ever had. (This is Livingstone from South Africa).

I had not heard from Shanice in years. I recall some of her previous songs being modest in appeal. Of course when she released "I love your smile" it was great surprise. Everyone in America and in many overseas areas loved it and kept it #1. After many years of being out of the chart spotlight, Shanice has reemerged more sophisticated and outstanding (in 1999). Her first single "When I close my eyes" is fantastic to say the least. She has done a wonderful job of showing her range and pop appeal. She has broken a chart record by moving from #96 to #16 (approximately). Regardless of the exact number, that type of chart success is unmatched. Shanice is destined to make this album a hit. Go out and get this album, you will not be disappointed. Other songs like "Yesterday" really show the depth of talent that Shanice has. Her vocal variety is unmatched. Her idea to work with LaFace Records is probably the best career move she has ever made!
