MusicChoice played their whole album this Saturday night..and I was jamming to it the whole time going "wow".
one more thing, if you're not into House/Techno/electronic then you don't want none of this, cause you won't feel it.

I don't know if anyone else thinks like me but the Electronic Dance scene has been a little stale as of late. Daon't get me wrong, I'm an electronic dance music fan through & through, just lately there hasn't been anything that's really jumped out at me. The minimal tech scene is getting waaaaaaaaaaay too much attention and nice, infectious, groovy, uplifting whatevers are no where to be found. Anyway, I'd heard of this album but never paid too close attention to it. I had no idea what I'd been missing. HOLY SH!T am I impressed, this is exactly whats been missing for the past couple years. I've been waiting for this for so long, yet here it was this whole time. From beginning to end this CD grabs hold & doesn't let go, simply amazing music from start to finish. Do all yourselves a favor and buy this CD, it's finally available domestically, there's no reason not to own it. You'll thank me later.

I just don't get it - SOULWAX has been around since the 90s, when they released their "rock" debut (on the now defunct Almo Sounds), chock full of should-have-been radio hits, and then when while they got some attention for their "2 Many DJs" mash-up/remix bootlegs, when they return to a full-fledged band, as with last year's ANY MINUTE NOW, critcs & consumers alike barely took notice of that album's amazing writing, production, and sheer electro-rock power. Hopefully, "Nite Versions" (a cheeky title recalling when 80s bands like Duran Duran used to release "Nite Version" on 12" of singles for clubs) will garner more sales and attention for SOULWAX - the songs practically leap out of the speakers to grab your neck and turn you head and make you move. Can't wait to hear what they do TIGA on his upcoming "Sexor" debut...?

Practically ignored by music criticism (even by indie critics), this record really makes everything DFA has produced sound like crap (by the way, I love DFA)... Soulwax has always been a rock band as oposed to their alias "2 many djs" that is used for electronic work, remixing and DJing. But this record takes the better of both names, Soulwax remixed (or re-created) their own songs and if that was not enough they open the album with an amazing rock cover of Daft Punks's "Teachers". 2manyDJS has also been known for their bastard pop tracks, and they do it here too in songs like "NY Lips" (sampling Funky town in a much more "funky" way than the original)... Potent beats and basslines are heard all over the songs, samples and lyrics are funny and fascinating.
My humble advice: buy this record... now!

In lieu of a new studio album, Soulwax have done the increasingly common thing and released a remix record to quench the public's thirst for new material. Remix releases can be nasty, barrel scraping affairs (just look at the recent Le Tigre compilation for proof), but in light of the critical hiding Any Minute Now copped upon its release in 2004, it's interesting to note the favourable attention Soulwax have attracted since NY Excuse was released earlier in the year in remixed form. Although that radio-friendly track doesn't make it to Nite Versions, there's two other versions of NY Excuse on offer, with NY Lipps incorporating a smattering of Lipps, Inc's classic disco cheese Funky Town to groovy effect. While second version Another Excuse is a DFA and Soulwax collaboration, sadly the gathering of minds looks better on paper than it sounds in reality, ensuring NY Lipps and its pots and pans percussion make for the better NY Excuse remix. Elsewhere on Nite Versions Soulwax's Dewaele brothers cover Daft Punk on album opener Teachers, completely reinvent E Talking save for a bassline and add an air of volatility to Compute via the use of a harpsichord.
As proven by their 2 Many DJs sideline, the Dewaeles know their way around a mix disc, with Nite Versions sampling LA Style's James Brown Is Dead on I Love Techno, adding Ultravox-style flourishes to Accidents And Compliments and seguing tracks with a perfect fusion.
Next up is their production role with Canada's Tiga, but for now Nite Versions satisfactorily keeps the interest in the Belgians high.

It's rare that I leave a 1-star review, but this album deserves it. Comparing this weak 'Jars of Clay' sound to Radiohead is also an insult. The reason that I don't like it is that it is nothing like their 'Too Many DJ's' compilation. There are no dancebeat mixes - no intelligent flow. It's just an absolutely mediocre album, and that's why it was just 97 cents used.

really...you won't be disappointed. This album rocks. A little too much....dangerously much one might say...

As a big fan of Beck, Radiohead, Cake, Fountains of Wayne and Cracker, I was looking for some new music to freshen up my music collection. Using Amazon's "if you like this, you'll like this" service, I stumbled across Soulwax. And boy, am I glad I did. With clear, clever lyrics coupled with a unique blend of rock/alternative/electronica/blues/soul, this album rocks. It is the best new album I have heard in months. It was one of those albums that you put in once, like all the songs, and then listen to it repeatedly. I highly recommend it. I anxiously await their next album.

Speaking of little-known bands that should be well-known. I highly recommend checking out New York indie band, Fountains of Wayne. If you are looking for an A+ pop band with witty lyrics and catchy tunes, Fountains of Wayne is as far as you need look. Both albums are excellent.

I often wonder what happened to the really catchy hooks and tremendous crescendos that used to fill songs in the late sixties? Well in Soulwax's US debut they not only fill the void, they improve on it, pound it, punch it, & leave indelible marks on the wall of pop hall of fame. NOT ONCE this year have I heard an album that was this unpredictable yet totally satisfying. With tracks like "Flying Without Wings" & "Too Many DJ's" most bands wouldn't even bother with the rest of the album. Well these guys do. I think it would be totally neglectful to disregard David Sardy who is acting producer on this. If you are familiar with his own bands' (Barkmarket) work you will hear the same intricacies here only a lot more tame. I can only imagine this album would have sounded TOTALLY different without him, so much props to David. If I had to compare these guys to anyone I would have to say ....well they are damn original. I guess "If you want KC & the Sunshine Band well they are not." Not a wasted track to be found. And what better way to spend this summer with your roof down, be careful all of you without a convertible, and just play this. You will note how loud your stereo will be. Don't worry that is perfectly normal.

Soulwax delivers its American debut in top form, equally groundbreaking and unconventionally pop-hooked. With cuts like "Much Against Everyone's Advice," one wonders: why the hell haven't Soulwax cracked the charts in America? Not many artists can meld full-force powerpop and urban beats this seamlessly. Check this out if you haven't. Best tracks: "Much Against Everyone's Advice," "Too Many DJ's," "Proverbial Pants" Rating: 8/10

A very tight piece of work. I bought this album on the strength of only one song 'N Y Excuse' which I don't normally do, but I'm glad I did. Although 'N Y Excuse' is different to any other track on the album, the rest of the album holds its own and is by no means filler.

I simply can't stop playing it. Unlike anything out there right now, this record will go down in history as the start of something big. Sorry that this review isn't very detailed, but it's taken me several months to stop doing anything other than listen to this record [i.e. type on a computer].

This is the only record on my iPod that has a solid 4-star rating on each track. If you don't get off listening to "NY Excuse" there is something wrong with you. "Accidents and Compliments" just came on right now and from the opening swell of guitars and strings I was instantly moved; this record has not lost any shine after 30+ listens.

Waiting anxiously for them to do a U.S. tour...

I just wanna make clear that soulwax definitely are Belgians.When people think that they're a Swedish band that's an insult to all of the Belgian People.We are proud of the few good rockbands that we have."Any minute now" is a fantastic album by the way if you'd ask me.So I hope that It's now 100 % clear that Soulwax is totally Belgian.

Everyone knows SOULWAX from their wacky "Too Many DJs" mash-up mix CDs, but few know they are actually a more-than-competent ROCK band - they have released two full-length studio album over the years (one even released in the U.S. on Almo Sounds that flopped, too bad, that even contained the original song "Too Many DJs") - trust me, this is good stuff - while flat, tin-eared NY "dance rock" acts like Radio 4 and The Rapure cannot carry a tune to save their lives, SOULWAX shows 'em how its done, liberally mixing up potent doses of stadium rock, electro-clash, and good-old fashion rawk n roll hooks into an addictive brew - again, WHY isn't this CD available in the U.S. yet?! WHY aren't Soulwax on MTV or Rolling Stone? They may be from Sweden, but they put a lot of homegrown bands to shame - peep this now!

Come on and join the belgian soul-disco-vader Abraham-rockers... go to their concert and you will be amased by the power and velocity without them even playing metal!! They can be soft as toiletpaper on a Sunday afternoon but hard as diamonds on their way to Antwerp... Good luck to the fabulous band from Gent!

I like Eels, Anouk, K's Choice, even No Doubt, but this is my best choice ever. There are no weak parts, the lyrics are good, and a lot of little jokes. I heard the first CD in the box, and liked it very much, but after a day, I discovered the 2nd CD in the 2CDbox, and that was a surprise, also brilliant. Listen to 'Too many DJ's', 'Much against everyone's Advice' 'Conversation Intercom' , 'My Cruel Joke' , 'Saturday' , 'Overweight Karate Kid' , 'When Logics die', 'Cut Some Slack', all the remixes on that 2nd CD, in short: just buy it!!!

This album is excellent: each song is a potential hit ! I think Soulwax and Hooverphonic are the best bands Belgium ever produced ! "Much Against Everyone's Advice" is a MUST BUY !

I went out on a limb for this one, my Belgian penpal kept on hyping this one up. So I bought it. This is my best buy of the year. I'd say of the past two to three years: this CD is awesome!! It combines in a clever way guitares with drumcomputers, violins with steaming base, going from soft pop (Saturday) to mean riffs (My Cruel Joke duet with Tracy Bonham). From the first track till the last, this CD is amazing!! Check out the cool drumline on the closing track Funny, when it battles with a guitar going mad. I LOVE IT!
