Van Hunt

I absolutely love this CD. A friend of mine turned me on to this brother and I am really feeling this whole CD. And that Seconds Of Pleasure is something else .... This is a little different and this brother can really sing.

I really enjoy this CD. I put "Seconds of Pleasure" on repeat and can listen to it all day. Van Hunt has a very sexy voice and he is very handsome.

What can I say? This cd exhibits a level of creativity I haven't seen in a while. It reminds me of the Curtis mayfield, prince, and Hendrix albums my father plays without sounding like cheap imitation or being dated. I heard on the jungle floor first and I had to listen t this. I must say I think it is a great debut. Better than the second. (I love the 2nd one too.)It is a nice blend of funk, soul, r&b, and a few others.

Do you remember the first time you heard (Insert your favorite group/singer here) How you kept rewinding that particular track, you know the last song on the first side ( for all the vinyl junkies out there) how you would learn the words, line by line, and recite them. How that song (s) would stay with you throughout the days, weeks to come. Well I do. But of late these moments have been few & far between. Maybe it's my age. Or the product being released nowadays. Who knows? The thing is I'm a simple man who LOVES his music. This CD reminds me why I do. I'm at working and I vibing to 'Who Will Love Me in winter' and contemplating the deep lyrics to this great song. I'm at the gym listening to ' Down Here in Hell (With You)' and loving the music, and, again smiling at the deepness of his lyrical content. Just know I was explaining to my wife the deepness to my favorite tracks. Yes I can hear Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and others in these songs, but unlike a lot of artists that wear the love of these artists on their sleeves, and copy verbatim, it's the deepness of his lyrics, and how they expand upon the love relationships we have that set him apart. the tracks that I 'm feeling, hard are :'Who Will Love Me In Winter'(my favorite that I can play on constant repeat) ' Out Of The Sky' ( which I think deals with fame, again some deep retrospect lyrics)'Anything (To Get Your Attention)' ( the first song that I fell in love with),'Down Here In Hell (With You) ( again deep lyrics, dealing with imperfection in relationships), 'Highlights' ( I love the an allergy with an ex-girlfriend, and a aspiring movie star) and Hello,Goodbye . Brother Kayode thanks for the heads up regarding this. Respect due, bro :)

This CD has a continuous flow. I don't know what took me so long to get it!! I would suggest this for anyone who likes real music. This is a great CD to just listen to and ride in the car! I am going to purchase everything he has made!

Van Hunt sophomore CD finds him expanding his range and influences, and not just giving us a rehash of his excellent debut CD Van Hunt. And for that he has to be admired, as an artist that will develop his sound between CDs. I have to be honest and say that the rockier moments on here left me quite cold, but remind me of Prince & Lenny Kravitz. But there are moments on here that do hit the heights. 'Being a Girl', 'Character', 'Priest or Police' and the gorgeous (and my favorite song on the CD) Hole In my heart. The thing I love about both CDs (and I hope he continues with throughout his career) are his excellent, melancholy, abstract lyrics that are best exemplified on 'Priest & Police'. As I write Van Hunt is labeless, and thus is third Cd Selections From The Album Popular as a complete CD, is gathering dust awaiting release. Which is a crying shame, and a sad indictment on the music industry as we know it. Until such time as this is rectified, at least we can enjoy this diverse CD.

I've heard a lot about Van Hunt over the years, so I figured I'd FINALLY buy his CD. I purchased the first album expecting a major "wow" factor. It did not happen for me. I think his second CD is much better than the first.

This is probably the best album that no one heard last year. Between Van Hunt and Rahsaan Patterson, I don't know who is more overlooked.

This talented singer/writer/producer has been producing solid work since he penned Dionne Farris's hit "Hopeless." Just like his much-overlooked first album, this one delivers and soulful mix of R&B, Rock and Funk. There are so many great tracks on this release, that there is something for everyone. Although Hunt mixes different musical styles, he still puts a cohesive stamp on it that makes them flow well together.

My favorite tracks are Priest or Police, Daredevil Baby, Being a Girl, At The End Of A Slow Dance, If I Take You Home, and Hot Stage Lights.

I can't wait for the new EP.

The only songs I really don't care for here are probably Ride, Ride, Ride and At The End Of A Slow Dance. They're definitely not my style.

But I do like Daredevil, Baby. I've had this CD since May 13th, 2006 and when I first heard it, I didn't know what to make of it, but a while later, I ended up liking the song. The production on No Sense of Crime is nice and playful, the lyrics, somewhat relatable. Mean Sleep is a decent song (though I can't compare to Lenny's because I've never heard it before) and Hot Stage Lights has a killer vibe during the chorus (or pre-chorus, I'm not sure :P). I can't get enough of it.

Another note that I must get through to you is that Van Hunt's lyrics have always been amongst the best and most descriptive (when he tries). See the intro to The Thrill Of This Love which has a slightly dreamy feel to it. It's not the greatest song otherwise, but it's decent. The album closes with The Night Is Young where Van Hunt struggles with the thought of where he is at the point of his life: getting older, reminiscing about the past, etc. It has a bit of a melancholy feel to it, but not overly so.

Things that could've been left off the album completely:

Ride, Ride, Ride and the intro as well as the interlude; the latter two are pretty much Van Hunt and some guy being as silly as possible. Not bad, but not necessary either.

Overall, there are about 4 songs that I enjoyed thoroughly (minus the intro and interlude).

If you want to get to know Van Hunt, I'd start with his far superior album, Van Hunt and then if he grabs you, get On The Jungle Floor. Be warned though, this album is much edgier, if that's your thing. To be honest though, I think this CD is a BORDERLINE sophomore slump. Fewer songs here grabbed me like they did with his self-titled album.

Nearly 4 hours of Baroque and Classical arias on 3 CDs. Like everything else I've heard on the Harmonia Mundi label, the music on these discs is high quality aesthetically and in recording quality. This gem-filled set may be of interest to students of music history, and certainly to anyone who loves aria.

I lent my copy of Pete 'n' Keely to a friend. When she returned my CD, she said that it was perfect. I agree. Many of the songs are an enjoyable trip down memory lane that brings back many fond memories. The new songs by Patrick Brady and Mark Waldropfit right in. Sally Mayes does the best rendition of "Black Coffee" that I have ever heard.Goerge Dvorsky's Fever" is also fantastic. It is not unusual for me to be sitting at my desk at work and have one of the songs run through my memory. That isd without any music in the background. My friends who have heard me play the CD have purchased a copy for themselves, they liked the CD so much.

This album is a MUST for any fan of Broadway - full of upbeat musical magic performed flawlessly by George Dvorsky and Sally Mayes.

The cd captures wonderfully the manic energy of Pete and Keely - a television couple that reigned supreme in the 1960s. Throughout the album we hear them at their best as they recall their joint musical career and their award winning signature tunes.

Dvorsky is a smooth as silk baritone with shades of Robert Goulet. His rendition of "Fever" on this album is alone worth the cost of the cd. Although done with a slight comic edge, the song comes alive with a wonderful nuance that Dvorsky delivers effortlessly. You'll find yourself replaying that track again and again.

The same could be said for Maye's sparkling "Black Coffee". Her voice is pure velvet, with a touch of "seen it all and done it all" flowing throughout this sensational track.

This original cast recording has been produced perfectly. The sound quality is superb, and the inner liner has some great photos of Pete n Keely in their glamorous Bob Mackie costumes that were such a huge part of the New York City premier.

If you like Broadway - then this cd is a must have...

If you like to smile when you listen to a cd - then this recording is a must have...

And....if you like your music upbeat and infectious - then this original cast recording is a MUST HAVE for your collection...

Cause I saw that this wonderful song was only at a lousy 3-star rating! Nearly freaked!!!

And it's no surprise that Maxx thinks a solid rating is a 3 instead of a 4. Haha. But once again, I digress.

I was coming to say that this song is an easy 4.5, declaring that this and any other song on the album would average out to be at least a 4, and then I saw the remix. I was puzzled, searched around for 10 minutes and finally found it.

The remix sound itself is actually a christmas-y dance version of the original. The echoes of Van Hunt's voice are spectacular and the lyrics don't change at all (Thank God...). But it's not as tight as the original. Even as I listen to it again, it's nice, very pleasant but not on par.

Down Here In Hell (With You) - A real look on love from a frail man's point of view, when it comes to it. 4.5

Down Here In Hell (With You) (Mac & Toolz Remix) - Same lyrics, different dance beat. Not on par but nice all the same. 4

I dug the Brothers Johnson style Arrangements going on with this Cut.Van Hunt has talent.this is a Smooth laid-back kind of cut.this cut had a nice vibe to it.

I have to say this album is exceptional. The instrumentation, the vocals, the lyrics the arrangement. This is an awesome soul album! It has all the genre of the late 70's classic soul brought new. I have heard folks make that statement a 1000 times...This time it rings true. For those of you who don't grab and enjoy the auditory desert of this album and you claim you like neo-soul or just good music,,,,, you will miss out if you don't experience On the jungle floor!!! holla
